Larry Elder critiques Gavin Newsom's 2035 EV ban for ignoring lithium mining abuses in China and the Congo, while attacking Newsom's uncertainty about Democratic identity and his promotion of "Latinx." The discussion covers Senator Chris Van Hollen's deportation of Kilmer Abrego Garcia, contrasting due process for undocumented immigrants with American citizens held hostage in Gaza. Elder supports Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s plan to remove artificial food dyes via mandatory labeling rather than bans, ultimately arguing that the party's radicalization under figures like AOC signals a dangerous shift in California politics. [Automatically generated summary]
However, we are not giving you a Friday roundtable extravaganza.
I'm one-upping myself.
I'm giving you the black face of white supremacy himself, the host of The Larry Elder Show, and the new star of the documentary out right now, Electric Vehicles, the Good, Bad, and the Ugly, my old friend,
Well, the reason I got involved in it, you're an ex-Californian, is because Gavin Newsom issued an edict that by the year 2035, no more sale of new gas-powered cars in California.
Premise is, of course, that EVs are better for the planet than gasoline-powered cars.
So I spent a year exploring whether or not that is true.
I didn't really have an idea one way or the other.
My gut told me they were probably better for the planet than gas-powered cars, but I'd never driven one before, so I thought I would just start from scratch.
Interviewed a bunch of physicists, engineers, climate people, miners, because the minerals that go into the battery have to be mine.
Car shows, car freaks, car enthusiasts.
There's a guy named Leon Kaplan.
I know you know him.
He's at a show for about 40 years.
He's a motor man.
And his opinion.
And we just explored all of that.
And my conclusion is that there are a lot of things that a lot of people are not considering.
The most important one, frankly, is this.
The stuff that goes into the batteries, the lithium, the cobalt, the nickel, has to be mined, produced, and manufactured somewhere, and most of it is either done in China or places controlled by China, like the Congo and Africa.
And kids, using their bare hands, are sticking their hands in the ground to mine this cobalt, which is toxic.
They make about a dollar or two dollars a day.
So people knew that children were being exploited.
And the conditions under which they were working, that alone would probably cause them to rethink buying a Tesla or buying an EV.
about that, and people absolutely should check out the doc, and we will put the link to it down below.
But let's dive in.
You already mentioned my favorite human being on Earth, the evil lizard man himself, Gavin Newsom.
So let's start in California.
This is from The Hill.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is accusing the Democrat Party of not yet performing a thorough autopsy on what went wrong in its devastating loss of the White House and Senate majority in November.
In an exclusive sit-down interview, With The Hill on Monday, Newsom said that if the party wants to find its way back from the wilderness, it has to be willing to look inward to what led to the losses and the failure to win back the House majority.
Later in the interview, Newsom said he wasn't sure what the Democrat Party truly represents, who is leading it or where it wants to go.
Remember that interview he did with Charlie Kirk where he said, you know, it's unfair for men to compete against women.
He had...
I don't know how many opportunities he had to oppose laws here in California, one of which was introduced by the Republicans because, as you know, the Democrats have supermajorities in the state assembly and the supermajority in the state senate.
The bill didn't even get out of committee and it would have banned men from competing against women.
All he had to do was just say, I support the bill.
He was asked whether or not he supported it and he goes, well, you know...
Right now, I have a lot of things on my plate.
We have to talk about the fires.
We have to talk about cost of living.
Right now, I guess...
Worthy of Joe Biden, worthy of Kamala Harris' word salad, he wouldn't say whether or not he supported that bill.
And then, of course, you got him saying he's never used the term Latinx.
Larry, next time you come visit me in Miami, I'm going to take you down to Calle 8, and we'll walk in and say, Buenos Dios, amigos!
Latinx amigos!
Yeah, it doesn't work that way.
I'm not sure what accent that was.
Can you just, real quick on Gav, we'll have a little more about California in a moment, but in the three years since I have left, and since you ran for governor and the whole thing, Has there been any wake-up?
Like, I get it, he's trying to moderate in some sense, and he's trying to talk to Charlie Kirk and some of these other guys.
But has there been any change whatsoever that you can see?
First of all, the governor of Oakland was recalled.
I'm sorry, the mayor of Oakland was recalled.
The mayor of San Francisco lost her re-election.
Proposition 38 passed, which essentially gutted Proposition 47. There was another proposition that would have reinstated race-based preferences.
Californians voted against that in the 90s, and it lost.
There was a ballot initiative recently to increase the minimum wage to $20 an hour for everybody other than fast food workers whose minimum wage has already been increased at $20 an hour, effective last April 1st.
I told Gavin Newsom, if you sign this, you're going to have wholesale layoffs and firings among fast food workers.
He did it anyway.
16,000 fast food workers since that bill has been enacted have lost their jobs.
And so voters in California saw that and voted against doing the same thing for non-fast food workers.
The new owner of the Los Angeles Times essentially sacked Or changed his editorial page.
And now you know the guy on CNN named Scott Johnson, who does yeoman work, often five against one on CNN every night?
Well, as I always say to you, good luck with all of that.
Let's jump to another crazy place.
I'm talking about Minnesota, and they've got this guy, Tim Walls.
And if the Democrats are good at one thing, it's taking the wrong side of every obvious issue.
Here you go.
unidentified
Now, in this land of the free and home of the brave, we have university students being swept up, shoved into unmarked vans, and fathers being tossed into Salvadorian gulags without a hint of due process.
So I want to be real clear about this.
If you say you love freedom, but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn't freedom.
what he of course doesn't say is that the university students are not legal American citizens.
Some of them are on student visas.
Some of them may be on green cards.
That's one thing.
And of course, what he's not telling you about the fathers from Maryland is that they're MS-13 gang members.
I mean, Larry, nothing surprises me anymore with the Democrats, but the fact they're going so all in on something that I just think the average apolitical person, they're just like, you
There are also court documents that show that his wife repeatedly said she was being beaten by him and hit her with a boot and she had marks, which now she sort of has retracted or something, which seems very weird.
Let me just ask you, Larry, philosophically, there seems to be a little debate right now, putting aside the legal part of it, which you already addressed.
But philosophically, how do you feel about someone that's here on a green card, let's say, or someone that's on a student visa?
What do you think actually their right-to-do process should be?
If they are not a legal citizen.
I'm talking about philosophically, not purely legally.
I think the other version of that, if an American student was at some other university in another country screaming about how evil that country is and not allowing their students of that university to come to camp, all of those things, like everyone knows they would be kicked out immediately,
The guy who has become the center of this thing outside of Abrego Garcia himself, of course, is Senator from Maryland, Chris Van Hollen, who's just all in on this, just all in on it, did not seem to care when a 37-year-old mother was killed by an illegal and left five children without a mother in his state,
They were filed by state attorneys general, and routinely the courts did not stop Joe Biden from keeping the border open.
But now all of a sudden they're stopping Donald Trump from closing the border and from getting rid of the people that were allowed in illegally by design for the last four years.
Not only that, you could argue that the courts were beyond not just where they were, where were they when they were needed, but in Texas when they tried to actually start doing something about the border, the courts overrode the governor.
So it's endless.
It's endless.
Here's Ayanna Pressley, another one of these wizards, and they just always take the wrong side of the issue.
unidentified
I'm just here to conduct oversight, to see it for myself in real time, exactly what the hell is going on here, and exactly why Romesa Osterk and Mahmoud Khalil and others are here.
And just know that this is an issue of consequence for everyone, because their constitutional rights were violated, due process was violated.
And there are already some 300 people that we're aware of who have had their student visas revoked.
In fact, when was the last time anybody on the left said anything at all about the hostages that are being held in Gaza, including the Americans?
And they don't seem to be concerned at all, as you mentioned, about the rights of the Jewish students, some of whom are prevented from going to class, going to the library because of these...
Because of these activists.
Can you imagine if this were at a historically black college and a bunch of white people there were down there yelling and screaming and stopping black kids from going to school, going to the library?
Do you think that these deportations will just continue, that Trump's just going to keep rolling through this and things will get hung up in the courts, obviously, but he's just not going to stop?
They really are angry at what happened in the last four years.
They're angry at the number of people that have been criminalized by illegal aliens, killed by illegal aliens, angel moms.
They're going to keep going, and they should keep going.
There's no reason.
Joe Biden did this by design.
He allowed in a minimum of 12 million.
It might have been as high as 15 million, some of whom were on the terror watch list, some of whom have been convicted of homicide in their home countries and homicide since they've been here.
It is absolutely outrageous.
It was done by design, presumably to change the electorate in the country, to change the Census Bureau, and hopefully to put pressure on Republicans down the road for amnesty.
That's why they did it.
And frankly, it's succeeding.
When you look at the rate at which people are being kicked out of the country, it's going to take decades to get rid of all of it.
And that assumes you still have Republicans in charge.
So the argument there that I think a lot Homan's been making in other people is basically, okay, so if we have court cases for...
Every single one of these 12 to 15 plus million people, the whole point is that they'll just run out the clock and then maybe they'll be a Democrat president and then everyone will stay forever.
But I want to introduce the audience.
I like, you know, we show the same videos of the same crazy Democrats all the time, but here we're introducing a new crazy Democrat.
She is a congresswoman from Michigan.
Her name is Haley Stevens.
And she is running for Senate.
So this will be another star that they can send to El Salvador.
And if you want to know how crazy these people are, well, here's a video of her in 2020 talking about COVID.
unidentified
You will see darkness.
You will be pushed.
And our society needs you to stand together at this time.

So, Larry, I want to just jump over.
We'll do a serious one here first, because, you know, it's easy to be glib about some of these things, of course, because the Democrats are so ridiculous.
But when you see what actually is happening in this country, it's rather extraordinary.
This is from the Daily Mail.
A twice-deported criminal jailed for a decade for killing two teenagers in a drunken car crash will be released almost seven years early.
Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano was drunk, high, and speeding at 100 miles per hour when he hit another car on the I-405 in Seal Beach, California on November 19, 2021.
Teen sweethearts Anya Farvomea and Nicole Osokin, both 19, were killed when their car burst into flames after Ortega-Anguiano plowed into them.
Ortega Anguiano, 43, was sentenced to two 10-year jail terms to be served concurrently for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
But their parents were horrified to discover in February that he will be released on parole on July 19th.
Larry, before I have you chime in, here's a video of the parents of the deceased boy talking about the car crash.
unidentified
The pain written all over the face of Pavel Osokin, as he recalls being told his son Nikolai and his 19-year-old girlfriend Anya Varfalomiev, friends since they were kids, were gone.
They told me there was a horrible incident.
My son and his girlfriend Anya basically were burned alive in their car.
She was my daughter.
Anya's father, Anatoly, got a similar knock on the door that night.
He said, I just named him.
I said, yes, it's my daughter.
My wife came downstairs and she was screaming and crying.
Well, for the obvious reason that it would add fuel to the idea that Joe Biden has made this country far less safe by opening the borders for the last four years and doing nothing about these illegal aliens.
The good news is that Tom Homan said, The moment they set foot outside of prison, they're going to be deported.
The other thing is that Gavin Newsom has even said something about this.
Gavin Newsom wants to run for president.
He doesn't want to be perceived as a California crazy, assault on crime, allowing somebody who drove 100 miles an hour and wasted two Americans and served three years.
He doesn't want to be responsible for people blaming him for that.
So I think that somehow, someway, Gavin Newsom is going to figure out a way of making sure they stay behind bars, but we'll see.
Well, first of all, listening to the heartache from those two parents is truly heartbreaking, and our hearts are with them.
unidentified
And not only are we praying for them, but this administration is taking action.
The Department of Homeland Security and ICE have already said that a detainer has been put on this individual if he is to be released, and he will immediately be transferred into ICE custody, we hope, if the state of California complies.
And if not, the Department of Justice will be seeking a conviction against this man.
He will spend time in federal prison for taking the lives of those two young Americans.
So these results speak for themselves.
President Trump is not going to tolerate illegal immigrant crime.
And this individual case represents everything that is wrong with our immigration system.
Larry, one of the things I've been saying a lot on the show lately is that it's just so refreshing to have competent people.
Whether you agree with all of the...
Policies of Trump or not, to just have people who can communicate these things properly, etc.
But they brought up the point that you just sort of referenced, which is that Newsom may try to do something here to run cover on how ridiculous this is, but either way, it sounds like Trump's going to send ICE to get this guy.
Like, he will not be wandering around America one way or another.
Either way, we shouldn't be talking about somebody during three years when they've mowed down two people and they've given two 10-year consecutive sentences.
By the way, regarding the team, I haven't seen this much talent on one team since the 1927 Yankees.
He first came on my radio show when he was a high school student and he was angry about something that was going on.
I thought he was so bright for the next several years I had him on my show.
69 times.
The reason I know the number is because Stephen Miller counted the number.
And so over the years, he goes from Santa Monica High, he goes to Duke, where he graduates.
Then he starts working for Jeff Sessions as a low-level staffer, works his way up to the top.
Sessions loans him to Donald Trump, never got him back.
And the people he has around him are just absolutely amazing.
You've got Marco Rubio, extremely talented.
You've got Tammy Bruce now, part of the administration.
Leo Terrell is part of the administration.
It's amazing.
Pete Hexer.
It's stunning.
And they're all communicators.
I know Donald Trump understands how important it is for people to communicate his policies, and that's why virtually every single one of his staffers and cabinet members are extraordinarily good communicators.
It's like they're talented in the first place and qualified, and they can communicate.
That's the big thing I've been saying about Hegseth, because it's like, man, he knows how to deal with the BS as they throw it at him, on top of some of the other people you mentioned.
Tom Homan, who you brought up once or twice.
I keep saying about Tom Homan that Tom Homan will play Tom Homan in the movie about Tom Homan because he's just so freaking perfect for this gig.
Here he is on what Biden basically was trying to do with the border.
unidentified
The Biden administration overwhelmed the system.
5 million people came to the border.
They know it's going to take years to get through the court docket.
By then, they're hoping there's another Democratic administration in it.
They'll have U.S. citizen children.
Then all of a sudden, nobody wants them removed.
We're spoiling their plans to have future Democratic voters, and through a census, have control of the House.
Through a census vote, Democratic sanctuary cities get more seats in the House.
unidentified
This is their plan.
That's why they overwhelmed the system.
That's why they didn't detain them.
When they detain them, they get a hearing in 35 days.
they released them, now it's gonna take five to seven years.
They're gonna keep playing this game through the immigration courts, through appeal after appeal after appeal, district judge, district judge, to slow us down because their hopes is they'll gain power again,
And there hasn't been an American who was deported.
Although Donald Trump did say something about, we should get rid of our homegrown criminals, and the left went crazy because, oh my God, he's going to get rid of citizens.
And obviously, he's not going to do that.
There's not going to be any citizen deported, even if you're a criminal.
Where are they going to go?
How are you going to do that legally?
There isn't anybody on our side, any of the lawyers on our side, who says that's okay.
Well, breaking satire, I heard a rumor that she's unhappy and she may want to come back, and that the Trump administration hastily drafted a new executive order banning her from coming back.

So, Larry, I showed this headline from the New York Times yesterday.
I thought this was rather telling of where we're at with all of this from the New York Times.
What is dark woke?
Democrats are trying out a new attitude.
It's provocative, edgy, and perilously towing the line of not being too offensive.
There's probably a skin color joke we could make there.
But, Larry, they're going to start being meaner.
They're going to say the F-bomb every now and again.
It's all of a sudden using slang, saying y 'all, and cursing, and just being in your face.
I guess that's the new attitude.
And it's interesting, as you know, I believe that America has never been less racist than right now.
We elected and re-elected Barack Obama.
They ran a woman of color for president.
And two people, black, ran for senator in Georgia, my dad's home state.
My dad was there.
Of course, it was Jim Crow.
So America has gone a long, long way, but you have young people like Jasmine Crockett, like Joy Reid, like Ayanna Pressley, like Sonny Hostin, who are so incredibly angry.
You have to wonder, what's going on?
Is it just opposed, or do you really believe that America is this racist?
We've had black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, for crying out loud.
Black governors, black senators, black presidents, as I said before.
In 1966, I think it was, two years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act, Martin Luther King was on British television.
And he said, you know, in about 40 years' time, given the progress of the last two years that has surprised me it's been so good, we could have a president elected almost by cue, do the math.
Barack Obama, 2008.
And the important thing is, Dave, he didn't say in 40 years' time we'll have a black CEO of Fortune 500 companies.
We had several.
He didn't say in 40 years we'll have a black head of the American Bar Association, and we have black head of the American Medical Association, and we have black president of Harvard University, and we have all these things.
He said president, meaning when that happens, we can stop the nonsense, and we can now believe that Americans are evaluating people based on content of character rather than color of skin.
It's as if Barack Obama...
Never got elected.
It's as if nothing's ever happened.
We're still Jim Crow America.
Donald Trump is a racist.
Donald Trump wants to round up black people and put them back into slavery, which is what Jasmine Crockett even implied.
Well, that was one of the things, you know, when you were running for governor and I was out there with you and fighting and going to events and all that stuff, it was like there were no racists there.
It didn't matter what color anyone's skin was.
Everyone had American flags.
Actually, the only racism that was involved in your campaign was coming from the left about you or the blackface of white supremacy.
And how you're a Trump stooge and a traitor.
It's so disgusting.
We've killed race except for the people who keep putting it back on life support.
Democratic pollster Douglas Schoen has officially coronated AOC as the future of the Dems.
unidentified
Clinton advisor and pollster Doug Schoen joins us right now.
Then Chuck Schumer, why is it that the Democrats want somebody who's a little further left than the guy that you're all reliable?
unidentified
Well, because the party, my party, has moved so far to the left, both in reaction to Donald Trump's first term and now the second term, that there's anger.
There's a desire also for a new generation of leadership, which AOC reflects.
Larry, everybody watching this knows that we're not Democrats, so we're not hiding anything here.
But my position at this point is I kind of want them to go that way.
Go as radical as you can.
Purge as many decent people out.
And I, for one, will always sit on, let's say, the slightly more liberal side of a wide-tent Republican Party.
Is that what you see the future as at the moment, that there's just going to be a widening of MAGA and just a slimming down of a Democrat Party because it's just they're handing it to the crazies?
Yeah, well, I hate to tell you, Doug Schoen is not going to be running the Democrat Party because it has drastically, drastically shifted.
And you mentioned Scott Jennings before from CNN.
He is the one sane guy on these panels.
It's usually five crazy people in him, and he just kind of smacks them around.
And here he is explaining how the moderate Dem of, say, 25 years ago, a Bill Clinton Democrat, is now a Trump supporter.
unidentified
You know, my dad, working class guy, worked in a factory, was a garbage man for a while, was the biggest Clinton guy I knew in the 90s.
He was the first guy to tell me Donald Trump was going to be the next president of the United States.
And of course I told him he was full of it.
And I was wrong and he was right.
And I think about that all the time because all those Clinton guys that you're talking about, those working class guys from the 90s, they're all Trump guys now.
And that's also explained some of the evolution of the Republican platform.
Let's talk about one other Democrat who actually is sane because he's no longer a Democrat.
Yeah, I'm talking about Bobby Kennedy.
We'll get to him in just a second, but first, Rumble Premium.

All right, so the other thing we've been talking a lot about this week is that Bobby Kennedy, who is now the head of HHS, one of that long list of people you were talking about before, who is just competent and ready to do the job that Trump has surrounded himself with this time, here he is talking about how we are going to revolutionize the American food system.
Larry, there's kind of two interesting things about what he said right there.
I love this idea, and I've heard him say this many times.
I've heard him talk about it privately as well, that he was getting, his phone was basically ringing off the hook of people like billionaires and tech leaders that were like, hey, I don't want any money.
I just want to help.
That is a very different thing than we've been dealing with in government for a long, long time, that they don't want prestige.
They just want to figure out how to fix.
Let me ask you, on the fixing side of things, you know, that we're getting dyes out of food and pesticides out of things and seed oils and all the Bobby Kennedy stuff.
You're more of a libertarian in some sense.
What role do you think the government has in this stuff?
I mean, if people want to eat stuff that's just bad for them and killing them and everything else, is it their God-given right to do it, or does the government have some kind of role here?
I think at the very least, you ought to know what you're ingesting.
And just as the government can mandate that tobacco makers put warnings on cigarettes and alcohol people put warning on labels, there's no reason why you can't at least mandate that when you're putting something like red dye, Europeans claim cause cancer.
At least you're alerted to that, so then you can make a decision.
But the idea of telling food companies you can't use this, you can't use this, you can't use that, because I think it's harmful, I think goes a little too far.
By the way, I know I'm name-dropping a lot this last hour, but I also had dinner with Bobby Kennedy Jr., and I was struck by how thoughtful he was.
This was a long time ago.
I said, this guy, I'm not even sure, is still a Democrat.
I don't know that he's officially said he's a Republican.
I mean, Tulsi officially left the Democrat Party, but I don't know that she's got the laminated Republican card.
But he's definitely not a Democrat anymore.
You know, the first time I had him on the show, my audience knows this, I had him on the show right when, you know, two weeks after he announced he was running as a Democrat.
And I said to him, I said, Bobby, I don't know if you're going to be a Republican by the end of this thing, but I know you won't be a Democrat.
And you can see his eyes light up like he knew.
He knew what was coming.
But let me show you one more video and then we got a special finish for you of another one of these competent people that Trump has brought on board.
This is incoming or new FDA commissioner, Dr. Marty McCary, talking to Dana Bash about this situation with food dyes.
unidentified
Why are these petroleum-based dyes in our food and in our medication in the first place?
Well, good question, Dana.
I don't think we appreciated the potential risks to human health and child health when they were first introduced.
Yellow dye number five, for example, was noted to be a bright, vibrant yellow color as the byproduct of coal tar in the coal ash, and then people decided to put it in fabric, and then they thought, well, we can put it in food.
The studies have caught up with the introduction of these petroleum-based chemical food dyes, and the data doesn't look good.
Larry, the big finish for you is that I know you love this chick just as much as me, and we have been missing her on the Rubin Report program.
Corinne Jean-Pierre has a new gig.
It's at least a one-day gig.
Listen to this from the New York Post.
She can finally have some pride in her job.
Former President Joe Biden's press secretary, Corinne Jean-Pierre, has landed a new gig out of the White House as a grand marshal of the New York City Pride Parade.
Jean-Pierre, who became the first openly gay spokesperson to hold press briefings for a U.S. president, will be among those to head the Big Apple's famed annual parade in June, CBS reported.
It goes back to that trailblazing career that she's had in politics and representing the community at the highest microphone that exists, New York City Pride spokesperson Chris Piedmont said of Jean-Pierre, Larry, I don't care that she's a woman who enjoys the company of other women.
She was just not very good at her job, and now she will lead a parade, so hooray.
Well, in her defense, it's hard to be good at your job when you're the press secretary for Joe Biden, lying to us about inflation, lying to us about the borders, lying to us about all sorts of things.
She's got to go out there with a straight face and try to defend him.
But I couldn't give a rip that she's the first this, first that.
She, at a town, at a forum, talked about how much pressure she felt being the first black gay person, first this.
Really?
After the first black president, isn't everything else kind of secondary?
