Time Text
Talent, so much talent on lawn from God.
Rush Limbaugh, the epitome of morality and virtue.
Engaging broadcast excellence, meeting and surpassing all audience expectations every day.
Great to have you here, my friends.
Telephone number if you want to be on the program is 800 28288 to the email address.
L Rushbo at EIBNet.com.
So Tom Harkin went to Cuba, came back and started just on the floor of the Senate, just singing the praises of the Cuban communist regime and their healthcare system.
And Marco Rubio was in his office.
And he saw it and he got up and he charged to the Senate floor to rebut what Harkin had said.
And you will hear that coming up in mere moments.
First, yesterday mentioned to you, story I didn't have a chance to get to, why Google doesn't care about hiring top college graduates.
The um it's it's it's kind of a new thing in the uh route to success since the Great Depression.
Well, yeah, they preceded that, but I mean the Great Depression really etched this in stone.
A college education is the route to abundance, success, achievement, and economic security.
And that's been the rule of thumb for decades now.
But now a new career path has been discovered by some high-tech people, and it involves dropouts, people that do not go to college.
Finally, my career path appears to be cool with the hipsters at Google, because you know I didn't go to college.
Well, I went I went for a semester and a half, and I you know the story.
I didn't, I just felt like it was holding me back.
I didn't, I hated school from the first moment I sixth grade, first grade, six years ago, I hated it, I despised it.
It was a I still have post-traumatic stress disorder thinking about being in classrooms.
I really do.
Somebody wanted to punish me or they'd send me to a classroom.
Send me back to school.
Anyway, Google has spent years analyzing who succeeds at the company.
They have moved away now from focusing on GPAs, brand name schools, interview brain teasers.
In a conversation with Thomas Friedman of the New York Times, the Google head of people operations, Laszlo Buck, detailed what the company looks for, and it's not about credentials.
They're looking for intellectual humility.
They are looking for people who are successful and bright and know how to learn from failure.
Graduates of top schools, according to Google, lack intellectual humility.
What that means is graduates from top schools coming out thinking that they are the end all.
Big time egos, thinking they're the smartest in the room.
They're the best.
They're better than everybody else.
Successful young graduates have been taught to rely on talent, which makes them unable to fail gracefully.
Google looks for the ability to step back and embrace other people's ideas when they're better.
It's called intellectual humility.
Without humility, you're not able to learn, says Bach.
Successful bright people rarely experience failure, so they don't learn how to learn from failure.
And those people have an unfortunate reaction, Bach says they instead commit the fundamental attribution error, which is if something good happens, it's because they're a genius.
If something bad happens, it's because somebody's an idiot, or they didn't get the resources, or the market moved.
And what we've seen is that the people who are the most successful here, the people that we want to hire, will have a fierce position.
They'll argue like hell.
They'll be zealots about their point of view.
But then you say, well, here's a new fact, and go, oh, well, if you're right, that changes things.
People, Google has found among the people that work for them.
People who make it without college are often the most exceptional.
Talent exists in so many places that hiring managers who rely on a few schools are using it as a crutch and they're missing out.
When you look at people who don't go to school and make their way in the world, those are exceptional human beings.
And we should do everything we can to find those people.
In addition, this guy from Google said that many schools don't even deliver on what they promise.
They generate a ton of debt in return for not learning what's most useful.
We don't get people to know how to think because they think they already know it all.
They have no intellectual humility.
Now, the reason I want to point this out, I one of the most frightening things for a parent.
You know it and I know it.
One of the scariest things for a parent is when a kid doesn't do well in school.
The next scariest thing for a parent is when a kid doesn't want to go to college.
Because everybody just believes that college is the root.
It is ingrained in our culture.
College leads to success, it leads to economic success, it leads to achievement, it leads to prominence, all of these things.
And without it, you know, my dad believed that.
His formative experience the Great Depression, and you didn't have a prayer of getting a job then if you didn't have a college degree, a piece of paper that said that you were educated.
And we live in a in a in a in a world now.
I just I'd just like to, if I could, offer a little comfort to you parents who might have a child, kid that shows no aptitude to classroom learning, may show no aptitude, no desire to go to college.
Don't panic.
You might very well have a genius on your hands.
You might it would be worth your while to figure out what it is that lights your kids' fire.
What is the kid passionate about?
And I'm assuming we're not talking about a couch potato here that just sits around playing video games.
But even that could lead to writing these games, computer coding, this and any number of things.
But I think uh this this revelation by Google is fascinating that the best people in their company.
I mean, this is an incredible thing to say.
Successful bright people rarely experience failure, so they don't learn how to learn from it.
People that make it without college are the most exceptional.
When you look at people who don't go to school and make their way in the world successfully, those are exceptional human beings, and they are because they have to overcome all the odds.
They have to overcome all of the it's almost prejudicial thinking.
Didn't go to college, you just don't have what it takes.
Didn't go to college, eh?
You don't know anything.
Didn't go to college, uh, you have been properly socialized.
Didn't go to college, whatever.
And there's a lot those people have to overcome.
A, they have to learn somewhere.
They have to get educated somewhere.
They do it themselves, and they do it in areas where they are passionate.
And they become good at something.
There's something that they'd rather do that school isn't interruption or something.
I'm just trying to be helpful here to some of you parents who may have children.
You just desperately want them to go to college.
If they don't, you think they don't have a chance, and it's not the case.
Figure out what it is they're passionate about, and you'll often get a clue as to where they are headed.
Did you see?
I had this last week and I didn't get to it, but I think it's I think it's crucial to point this out.
National Science Foundation survey.
Conducted in 2012.
Honest folks, this survey found that 51% of Democrats do not know that the earth goes around the sun once a year.
Fifty one percent of Democrats.
Now, who is it that believes all of this papy science to the hoax science to the fraudulent science to all of these stupid scary food warnings?
Who is it that ends up believing all of that stuff?
It has to be these 51% of Democrats do not know.
And you know how arrogant they are, and I think they're smarter than everybody else.
More in tune, more in touch with everybody else.
51%.
This is staggering.
Not to mention what worthless time they've spent in school.
51% do not know the earth rolls around the sun once a year.
They may know that the earth goes around the sun, but they don't know that that happens once a year.
51% 51% I just what this means is 51% of Democrats need remedial science education.
There's other here's the uh here's some of the highlights of this thing.
Which political this was in the Washington Post, which political groups are more likely to believe that astrology is very scientific or sort of scientific, as opposed to those who believe it's not scientific at all.
One, conservative Democrats think that astrology is very scientific.
Moderate Democrats, 52% think astrology is sort of scientific.
57% of conservative Democrats who think that it is science.
And overall, Democrats, 44%, think that astrology is science.
51% do not know that.
That the Earth revolves around the sun once a year.
This is why man-made global warming will never die, because idiocy is the Democrat Party.
If you don't know that the earth revolves around the sun once a year, what can you mean?
Made to believe.
The foundation just isn't there.
That just, to me, is stunning.
Jane Fonda is worried.
USA Today...
Anne Oldenburg has the story.
Jane Fonda's 76.
She is worried that she has so little time left.
She does not want to be cremated or put in a coffin.
She was among the guests at the baby shower past weekend for Carrie Washington.
And it was a moment that brought tears to Jane Fonda's eyes.
You know these old liberals are amusing in their self-absorption.
I mean, really.
It's like she's the only one getting old.
She's the only one that's ever experienced it.
Oh my God, it's so bad.
I got so little time.
And here is what she wrote.
I ache for unwanted children in the world.
I ache for polar bears and elephants, whales, monarch butterflies, and dolphins, gorillas, and chimpanzees.
I'm not going to be cremated.
It uses up too much energy.
It gives off too many toxins.
Nor do I want to be in a coffin.
Just dump me in a hole and let me morph into whatever as quickly as possible.
Okay.
What's the answer to that?
Well, okay, if that's what you want.
Sad story.
Really, Really sad.
In Mississippi, white people outnumber blacks significantly.
However, 72% of aborted babies in Mississippi are black.
Now, this comes on the heels of the equally shocking news out of New York City.
65,000 black pregnancies in 2012.
32,000 of them aborted.
No.
No, no.
It was over half of them aborted.
It was 24,000 births, and the rest were aborted.
65,000 pregnancies, black people in New York City in 2012.
And only 24,000 were born.
In Mississippi, 79% of Planned Parenthood abortion centers are located in minority neighborhoods and 72% of aborted babies in Mississippi are black.
Can anybody say Margaret Sanger?
Planned parenthood with abortion centers.
79% of all planned parenthood clinics are in minority neighborhoods in Mississippi, yet the majority population there is white.
Where does Planned Parenthood go and what is happening?
72% of aborted babies are black in Mississippi.
I mentioned these guys yesterday.
A number of African American ministers are just fed up with Obama.
These are brave guys.
They are truthful, they're consistent, they're not racist, they're out there, they're getting zero coverage from the drive-by media.
This is from the Cybercast News Service.
Black pastor Barack Obama has done more to hurt the American people than any other president.
Reverend Bill Owens, press conference on Tuesday, Washington, D.C. Announced a signature campaign to impeach Attorney General Holder.
This is the guy we talked about yesterday.
He said we're on a downward road.
He's founder and president of the coalition of African American pastors.
Had an event, the National Press Club.
This president has done more to hurt the American people than any president as I see it in my lifetime and in history.
Bill Owen said Eric Halders repeated lawlessness, disregarding state laws and the Constitution.
He cited them, talked about how bad it is.
Owen said he wants good Americans to stand up for what is right by signing the impeachment petition for Eric Halder, the goal of gathering one million signatures.
He also stressed the petition is meant for all citizens, regardless of race or creed.
Coalition of African American pastors, totally opposed to Obama and Eric Holder.
And even though they showed up at the National Press Club, totally ignored.
Back to the phones we go.
We'll have Tom Harkin and Marco Rubio in the next half hour.
Here's Patty in Longview, Texas.
Patty, I'm glad you call.
Great to have you on the program.
Hello.
Hi.
Thank you for taking my call.
Um I have a question for you.
I'm originally from Honduras, and I truly do not understand how this country is now paralyzed by race, that it now trumps individual liberty.
I see that the tactic works, calling somebody a racist, but that's not benefit.
My kids benefit.
And none of the elected officials stand up for freedom anymore.
And I need to know if it's time to panic.
Well, how long have you been?
You say you're from um did you say where are you from, did you say?
Honduras.
Honduras, and how long have you been here?
Since eighty-six.
Okay.
They've been here quite a while.
Um the phenomenon that you've noted is rather recent.
The goodness, you're you're absolutely right.
The number of elected officials who talk about freedom, either in an active sense or even uh theoretically, uh constitutionally zilch.
Uh, This country is paralyzed by race because that is the chosen state of the Democrat Party.
The Democrat Party is sought to advance itself politically by making as many groups of people victims of the Republicans as possible in people's minds.
The Republicans are all white.
The Democrats' message is the Republicans are all white, they're all racists.
Everybody's going to be a slave.
Everybody's going to be poor.
The rich are going to take everybody's money.
And the Democrats are out protecting everybody.
And if 51% of Democrats do not know that the earth revolves around the sun once a year, what other stupidity can they be made to believe?
So they the Democrats engage in fear and crisis on a daily basis, telling people that vote for them that they are under assault and that their only protection is the Democrat Party.
This kind of cultural balkanism has been chosen as a as a as an official policy for the Democrats because it's something they have judged that will be successful in them winning elections and holding power.
But it doesn't seem to work when it's somebody like Marco Rubio who is Cuban or Ted Cruz.
Well, but but they are also castigated as racists or elites.
Hang on.
Okay, back to Longview, Texas.
Patty, are you still there?
Patty, are you still there?
Yes, I am.
Basically, I just wanted to tell you that racism has been whipped up by the left, by the Democrat Party, as a means of silencing its opponents.
The Democrat Party is not about self-reliance and rugged individualism and freedom.
They're about dependence.
They need people depending on them.
They don't want people exercising the kind of creative freedom and entrepreneurial freedom that can launch them into a uh circumstance where they don't need government to get by.
Democrat Party's always been based on racism.
They formed the KKK.
The Democrats are the ones that wrote and passed and signed and enforced every Jim Crow law that has ever been in this country.
They're the ones that wouldn't let blacks at the University of Mississippi.
They're the ones that fire hosed them and dogged them at Selmo.
It's the Democrats were the big segregationists.
And they have now just turned that around and make that charge of racism everywhere to silence critics.
Look how effective it is.
There is no criticism of Barack Obama.
absolutely none of any substance from the Republican Party because they're so afraid of being called racist.
It's that simple.
I'm glad you called, Patty.
It's a great question.
I'm kind of torn here because I've really got some interesting callers on, and I've got to do this Marco Rubio response to Tom Harkin because he just nails Harkin in the And this is classic.
So I'm going to try to get a lot of stuff done here.
Let's start with Harkin.
This was uh late Monday afternoon on the Senate floor.
Harkin just got back from Cuba, and he's singing their praises.
When a woman gets pregnant in Cuba, she gets visited immediately.
Well, as soon as they know about it, she gets visited by a nurse, she gets visited by health officials who put her on a better diet, make sure she doesn't smoke, provide supportive services for her during her pregnancy, make sure that there's someone there for the birth, and that child is everything is is just covered from the earliest time of pregnancy through early childhood.
It's a paradise.
Why, it's an absolute paradise, honor.
Do you believe that excrement?
When they find out that a woman is pregnant in Cuba, how often do they find out?
When they find out she gets visited immediately.
Well, as soon as they know about it, she gets visited by a nurse, a health official who puts her on a better diet.
No way do we care as much as the Cubans do, see?
They do it right.
We don't care at all.
We're insensitive, we don't have any prenatal care, postnatal care, we don't have any kind of care.
But the Cubans, they do it right because in Cuba, medicine is a public government service.
One of the key features of what Cuba has done is they have made the practice of medicine a public service, a public service.
In all aspects, whether you're a doctor or a surgeon or a nurse or various other health practitioners.
It is a public service.
Life span is now even longer than ours in the United States.
It's just not true.
I mean, this is just incredible.
Cuba is a hellhole.
It is so backward, the infrastructure is falling apart.
The newest car you can get's a 57 Chevy.
Well, maybe they get some of the limousines for the mob that's going back in there to set up casinos now at some of the hotels.
But I mean, this is just you hear that medicine's a public service.
Yes, there's no profit in it.
It's just people who care.
Government people who care.
From the surgeons to the nurses to uh various other health practitioners, it's just people who care.
It's a public service.
And you know what?
You know what?
Everything is free in Cuba.
Every one of these students are going to medical school, and you know what costs them?
Zero.
Not one cent.
The 108 students are there, pay nothing.
We have over 90 graduates of this school back here in America right now.
And that's another thing.
Whenever we traveled all over Cuba, I went to the clinics and I talked to health people.
I'd always ask them, what did it cost you to go to school?
Do you have student debt?
No.
Medical school is free.
There is no cost to going to medical school.
None whatsoever.
It's a paradise.
It's a literal paradise.
The people involved in health care don't get paid because it's a public service.
They just care.
The students don't get paid because it doesn't cost them to become doctors and nurses.
There is no debt.
Everybody just does for everybody else because they care.
Everything is public service.
And everything is free.
And they're living longer.
Well, Marco Rubio was watching this in his office.
And he literally charged to the Senate floor and rebutted this.
A few moments ago, the body was treated to a report from the senator from Iowa about his recent trip to Cuba.
Sounded like he had a wonderful trip.
Visiting what he described as a real paradise.
I heard him also talk about these uh great doctors that they have in Cuba, and I'm no doubt they're very talented.
I've met a much of them.
You know where I met him in the United States because they defected.
Because in Cuba, doctors would rather drive a taxi cab or work in a hotel than be a doctor.
I wonder if they spoke to him about the outbreak of cholera that they've been unable to control, or about the three-tiered system of health care that exists, where foreigners and government officials get a health care much better than that that's available to the general population.
That's probably what they showed, Harkin.
And uh Rubio, it wasn't finished.
Who are Cuba's allies in the world?
North Korea.
Before he fell, the dictator in Libya, the dictator in Syria, the tyrant in Moscow.
This is who they line up with.
This is this wonderful paradise.
By the way, this in and of itself deserves attention, what's happening in Venezuela in our own hemisphere.
It is shameful that only three heads of state in this hemisphere have spoken out forcefully against what's happening.
It is shameful that many members of Congress who traveled to Venezuela and were friendly with Chavez, some even went to his funeral, sit by saying nothing while this is happening in our own hemisphere.
And this wonderful Cuban paradise government that we heard about, this is what they support.
If it's such a paradise, why isn't everybody going there?
We have to listen to what a paradise Cuba is.
Well, I wonder.
How come I never read about boatloads of American refugees going to Cuba?
Why don't any American doctors defect the Cuba if it's such a paradise?
If America and its policymakers are not going to be firmly on the side of freedom and liberty, who in the world is?
Who on this planet will?
If this nation is not firmly on the side of human rights and freedom and the dignity of all people, what nation on the earth will?
And if we're prepared to walk away from that, then I submit to you that this century is going to be a dangerous and dark one.
That wasn't the best of what he had to say, though.
He said, Let me tell you what the Cubans are really good at, because they don't know how to run their economy.
They don't know how to build.
They don't know how to govern a people.
What they're really good at is repression.
He cited a poll.
More Americans want normal relations with Cuba.
So do I. Democratic and free Cuba.
But you want us to reach out and develop friendly relationships with a serial violator of human rights who supports what's going on in Venezuela and every other atrocity on the planet.
On issue after issue, they are always on the side of the tyrants.
Look it up.
And this is who we should be opening up to.
Why don't they change?
Why doesn't the Cuban government change?
Why doesn't the Venezuelan government change?
Why is it up to us to change?
Why is it they are the beacon and we are the problem?
But here's the great news.
I don't know if they get C-SPAN in Cuba.
I'll bet you the government people do.
I hope you see that in America, that we're a free society.
You're allowed to come on the floor and you're allowed to say and spread whatever you want.
You think Cuba's a paradise?
You think it's an example and a model that we should be following?
You're free to say that here in the press anywhere you want, but we're also free to come here and tell the truth.
We're also free to come here and denounce the violations of human rights and brutality.
Just made men's of it.
But here what you have, you heard Harkin, this this guy's in love.
He is literally in love, blinded and obsessed.
Because it's socialism, which history proves is a dismal failure everywhere it's tried.
Ukraine, Venezuela, Cuba, Detroit.
This is absolute insanity to listen to Tom Harkin.
Go on and on and on with such love for Cuba.
What a paradise it is.
But it isn't.
We haven't had communism blasted like Rubio did it by a an elected official in I don't know how long it was certainly since the days of Reagan.
We have not had an elected official in public bash a communist regime like this.
And I can't tell you how long.
Hello, George.
Welcome to the program, sir.
Hi.
Good afternoon, Rush.
I'm out here doing what I was born to do.
Listen to Rush.
Hey, Rush.
Listen, I'm on the uh the horns of a dilemma.
Uh the next town to us, Farmington, Connecticut, it was just reported on the local affiliate that you're on WTIC here in Connecticut this morning, that a uh farmer in upstate New York, that would be Hercomer, New York, had installed a hidden camera because his cows, his milk cows, were apparently feeling anxious and not giving their their portion of milk.
And it determined that one of the uh uh uh employees of the local Farmington high school was apparently caught on tape having sex with his milk cows.
So now I'm I I'm on the horns of a dilemma here.
The uh i is the humane society are they gonna fight for the rights of the cows having been raped, or will the left fight for the rights of the man to choose his sex partner?
Well, the first thing has to be determined.
Now, this happened, you know, this this happened with a horse.
Horse is out in Oregon, and I'm I'm not making this up.
One of the determining factors there was whether or not the horse enjoyed it.
Was it consensual?
I'm I'm not making it up.
I'm not no, I'm literally it was it consensual.
I'm not, I'm not I'm not making that up.
And so in a circumstance like this, I I'm I'm being dead serious.
Any form of sexual deviance, there's There's not gonna be a mad rush to condemn it.
Well now, Drush, they relieved this person of his duties at the high school, though.
I mean, uh uh how is that possible?
He can't make a living now.
They've deprived him of his income.
That is grossly unfair, you're right.
It would seem so.
I mean, uh and I want to know what class he was.
A compassionate society would not do this.
Perhaps he was teaching animal husbandry.
Well, um, the horns of the dilemma you're on could be quite uncomfortable.
It well could.
Rush, I've been listening to you since the days of ABC.
I'm a longtime listener, and and uh I'm a mind numb robot.
I just want you to know.
I appreciate the call.
Thanks very much.
Uh I'm not making it up about the horse in Oregon.
There was concern with the did the horse enjoy it or not.
This case, if the cows are giving less milk and they look anxious, it could be it's uh but I'm telling you, uh uh there's not gonna be this mad dash to condemn sexual deviancy.
That's that's mark my words on that.
