Time Text
The views expressed by the host on this program documented to be almost always right 99.7% of the time.
It's a thrill and a delight to have you with us, folks, as we chug on down the train tracks of truth here at the EIB Network.
I'm America's real anchorman.
And apparently, even more than I thought, America's real truth detector and the Doctor of Democracy.
The telephone number is 800-282-2882 and the email address El Rushbo at EIBNet.com.
So I get a note from a friend trying to explain this to me.
How inside the Beltway conservatives in a two-year presidential campaign could not tell what Barack Obama was until a month or two after he was imaculated.
Now see what you think of this.
He says, Rush, the reason people took so long to get Obama is that many sophisticated, it's quote-unquote sophisticated, sophisticated people in their own mind don't believe that anyone in public life has principles or serious beliefs.
And much of the time that's true, but the signals from Obama were absolutely unambiguous.
Now that, if that happens to be true, then I am doubly whammied here.
How in the world, now let me try to understand.
Okay, you're inside the Beltway and it's the establishment, it's Republicans and Democrats, and the government's, everything's good and all that.
And I guess what is meant here is, look, nobody in that universe, in that world, thinks anybody has really any principles or serious beliefs.
It's just whatever you have to do at the time to get done what you need to get done.
I guess it could be true.
I just cannot relate to it.
Principle and serious beliefs, I thought, were what defined people.
At least in this arena.
But maybe this is true.
Maybe the inside the Beltway culture is that nobody has any real beliefs or anything.
But I don't know how you can say that.
Every liberal that we're up against has serious beliefs and hardcore radical principles.
And I'm sorry, I just, I don't understand how that's overlooked.
I don't understand how that is not seen.
I didn't intend to make this this big a deal, but I get the longer I ponder it, I guess the more incredulous, if possible, I become.
And then these explanations come rolling in.
I can't relate to not having principles.
But I guess that really does maybe define the inner workings of politics.
No real principles.
Just do whatever you have to.
Maybe that is.
Maybe that's what bothers all these people about Cruz and Mike Lee.
Maybe it is, folks.
Maybe here's, I mean, there's no question Mike Lee and Cruz have principles and serious beliefs.
And maybe that's maybe that is what's the threat.
And then the Tea Party.
The Tea Party is made up of average Americans who are hell-bent in their seriousness.
The Tea Party is made up of average Americans who are dead serious about their beliefs and their principles.
And maybe that is what bugs people inside the Beltway.
Maybe that is what makes them uncomfortable.
Anyway, folks, there are lots of moving on to the Obamacare stack.
There are a lot of reports today, expressions of anger, humiliation, disappointment over the debacle that continues to be the Obamacare website, more glitches.
Now you've got people saying, you know what, this thing can't be fixed.
It's going to have to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch.
And by the way, have you seen, remember the picture that the young woman that's been the iconic figure at healthcare.gov?
She's gone now.
And they've replaced her with two or three icons or graphics.
And that woman was probably the Julia of the famous Obamacare commercial.
But anyway, I'll give you an example.
There's a piece here by our old buddy Ron Fournier, who used to work at the AP, bureau chief and then White House correspondent, and now he's at the National Journal.
And his piece is called Obama Takes Friendly Fire.
And he opens up this one.
I'm just going to read verbatim the way his piece begins.
Incoming from Democrats, colon, Democrat Party is effed.
That was the subject line of an email sent to me Sunday by a senior Democrat consultant with strong ties to the White House at Capitol Hill.
The body of the email contained a link to an LA Times story about Obamacare sticker shock.
And I have that LA Times story.
I'll get to that here in just a second.
Let me finish with Ron Fournier's piece.
In the LA Times story, it says, these middle-class consumers are staring at hefty increases on their insurance bills as the overhaul remakes the healthcare market.
Their rates are rising in large part to help offset the higher cost of covering sicker, poorer people who have been shut out of the system for years.
Although recent criticism of the healthcare law has focused on website glitches and early enrollment snags, experts say sharp price increases for individual policies have the greatest potential to erode public support for Obamacare.
Bingo!
It isn't just that the healthcare.gov website's a mess.
It's that people who are figuring it out and getting through are finding out, and we've had the stories left and right, and we've got a stack of them again today, about what people are discovering is going to happen to their premiums.
In fact, I mentioned last week that all of these glitches that are taking place and preventing people from signing in and logging on are actually maybe a blessing in disguise for the regime because these people are not learning, the people that are having trouble getting through.
They're not learning how they're going to get shafted.
So anyway, Ron Fournier writes this piece and he talks about an email he got from a senior Democrat consultant who opened his email by saying, we're screwed.
Democrat Party screwed.
That was the subject line.
And he's bouncing off this LA Times piece.
In the story, the reporter quoted a letter sent to a California insurance company executive.
I was all for Obamacare, wrote a young woman complaining about a 50% increase related to healthcare until I found out I was paying for it.
This story in the LA Times actually has that quote in it.
A woman, young woman, big Obama voter, big Obama supporter, all in for Obamacare, and then she says, I was all for Obamacare until I found out I was paying for it.
Also of interest to the Democrat consultant, a Josh Barrow column on Obama's promise that if you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.
It was never a reasonable pledge, Barrow argues, and it's being proven false.
He called this a good thing because a lot of existing health plans were bad.
Reforming a nation's health care system was necessarily going to have to change a lot of people's health plans.
Well, that does.
So what good does that do people?
The president of the United States promised them over and over again that they get to keep their plan if they liked it and they get to keep their doctor and they can't.
And they're all learning this.
He promised them over and over again their premiums have been coming down $2,500 and they're not.
And then the Democrat that wrote Ron Fournier this note that leads off with Democrat Party screwed said, We will own this problem forever.
The Democrat consultant said none of this is news to him.
He knew all about what Obamacare was going to do.
But he wonders why.
Now listen to this.
I'm going to go nuts here.
Listen to this.
This is not an Inside the Beltway conservative writing here.
This is an inside the senior Democrat consultant who wrote an email to Ron Fournier who said, I'll just read you what Fournier wrote.
The Democrat consultant said none of this is news to him, but he wonders why Obama wasn't honest with Americans.
Good grief, folks.
So now a ranking Democrat consultant is rubbing his hands together.
He's really worried.
He thinks the Democrat Party is screwed, that they're going to own this problem forever, that it can't be fixed, and he wonders why Obama wasn't honest with Americans.
The task is larger than I thought, folks.
The level, the amount, the shocking tonnage of sheer ignorance at what we think are the highest levels of government and politics is almost irreconcilable to me.
I do not, this does not compute.
How in the world a Democrat consultant wonders why Obama wasn't honest with people?
Can I answer it for you?
Had he been honest with people about anything, nothing would have passed.
Had he been honest about his stimulus, it wouldn't have happened.
Had he been honest about what he intended for the job market and the economy, he wouldn't have been elected.
Had he been honest about what he intended in foreign policy, he wouldn't have been elected.
Had he been honest about what's going to happen to people's health care, he would not have been elected.
What do you mean you don't know why he lied to people?
Is it an extreme statement to say the Democrat Party has to lie in campaigns?
You and I well know the Democrat Party cannot be honest about its intentions.
That's why we don't have a federal budget for four years, because the Democrat Party does not want to spell out their policy objectives.
They don't want to spell out what they intend to do with tax increases, the size of government, health care, you name it.
That's why we don't have a budget, pure and simple.
The Democrat consultant wonders why Obama wasn't honest with Americans, and people on our side say it took them five weeks after the immaculation to figure out who they're dealing with here.
Man, are we screwed?
There's no other way to put it.
Folks, let me tell you, the low-information voters may know more about what's going on than the intelligentsia does.
Low-information voters may have a bigger handle on their future than people advising them do.
Maybe making fun of the wrong people here when we talk about the low-information.
Democrat consultant wonders why Obama wasn't honest with Americans.
He went on to predict surprises and outrage over higher costs and lesser coverage.
Really?
That's a bold prediction.
We will own this problem forever.
You guys knew what you were doing when you did it.
Are you trying to tell me that when you Democrats gathered to sign this thing or to pass this?
And you get Stenny Hoyer hurting everybody, Yan and Nancy Pelosi and Bart Stupak.
Are you guys telling me you didn't know what you were doing?
Are you Democrats telling me you had no idea what this really was?
They didn't read the bill.
Let's be honest.
They said to Pelosi, well, we're going to have to pass it to find out what's in it.
This is why, folks, I say Obama doesn't care about any of this.
He doesn't care what's in it because all he wanted was to get it passed.
He doesn't care.
But these people, they're admitting they didn't know what this was, or they want us to believe that.
Now, I think everybody is in a CYA.
That's what, you know, this is so bad.
It is such a disaster that everybody's laying down markers covering their rear ends.
That's what this consultant's doing.
There's no way these people didn't know what this bill was.
There's no way.
They intended it for crying out loud.
They intended the government to grow.
They intended for health care to become the mechanism for that.
They intended all of this.
And now they're running around saying, oh my God, we didn't know any of this bull.
They didn't know any of this.
But here's the thing.
This piece by Mr. Fournier, just so you have this in the proper context, they're not worried about what this means to the American people.
They're worried about what it means to the Democrat Party now.
That's why there are all these media reports now expressing anger or humiliation or disappointment.
They're worried, like this consultant wrote to Fournier, oh my God, we're screwed.
We're going to own this forever.
That's right, because not one Republican voted for this.
But they're worried not about the effect on you.
They're worried what your family budget's going to be torn up to handle this.
They're not worried about any of the impact on you here.
They're worried about the impact on them.
They're worried about the impact on Obama.
They're worried about the impact of the Democrat Party.
They're worried about the impact on the leftist agenda.
That's what they're worried about.
And that's why they're writing this stuff today.
They're letting Obama know how deeply they have been hurt.
They're letting Obama know how deeply they think they've been misled.
And they're all in giant CYA mode today.
Everybody is.
Everybody, everyone, I didn't know who Obama was for a little while.
Now, these Democrat consultants, why would Obama lie to people?
He wonders why Obama wasn't honest.
Why weren't you honest with the American people?
You guys, as consultants, run ads.
Folks, I'm so fit to be tied.
I can't.
I've got to go to commercial break here.
This is just.
This L.A. Times story is not the only story of its kind today.
There's also one in the Chicago Tribune.
In fact, let me just give you the headlines.
This is a daily caller.
Here's how Obamacare Mike makes life hell for college professors.
So I can get the details as the program unfolds, but just the headlines here.
Here's how Obamacare makes life hell for college props.
Apparently, they have no idea what's coming because they're idiots too.
Do you realize we're being led and governed by genuine stupid people, folks?
If everything we're being asked to believe today is really true, then we're being governed by sheer idiocy, no matter where we turn.
NBC Lexington, Kentucky, an affiliate, the real cost to Kentuckians for the Affordable Care Act.
From the Wall Street Journal, how retirees will suffer under Obamacare.
From the Chicago Sun-Times, Obamacare jacks up her insurance.
Sue Klinkhamer has a problem.
And it's called Obamacare.
And the irony of her situation isn't lost on her.
In a recent email addressed to her boss, Illinois Congressman Bill Foster and other Democrat colleagues, she wrote, I spent two years defending Obamacare.
I had constituents scream at me, spit at me, call me names that I can't put in print.
The congressman wasn't re-elected in 2010, mainly because of the anti-Obamacare anger.
When the congressman was not re-elected, I also, along with the rest of our staff, lost my job.
I was upset that because of the health care issue, I didn't have a job anymore, but still defended Obamacare because it would make health care available to everybody at what I assumed would be an affordable price.
I have now learned that I was wrong, very wrong.
She's 60.
Yeah, like OMG.
So she's a congresswoman staffer, or congress, she's a staffer, and it's just, her three years ago, a premium was $225 with a $2,500 deductible.
Today she's at $322 and $6,500.
And she's like everybody.
She believed Obama.
She's a loyal Democrat.
She ran around stumped for it.
She believed her Congress it was going to get cheaper.
And everybody was going to be covered.
And now, wherever you turn today, that's just four stories from a burgeoning Obamacare stack.
You're damn right, I'm mad.
For five years, we have been telling people the truth about it on this show and elsewhere.
For five years.
You know what?
The problem is, these people, they own it.
I have no sympathy for them, but the fact of the matter is they have doomed this country with their stupidity.
With their blind loyalty and their stupid hatred of conservatives drummed up by a media that know what it's doing.
These people, via their stupidity and their partisanship and whatever else, their ignorance, have supported something that is an albatross at best.
They had every opportunity to learn the truth about this.
They had every chance to believe the truth.
And because of their own closed-minded bigotry, they chose to reject the truth when they heard it because they didn't think the people telling them the truth were good people.
They thought the people telling them the truth were racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobe, conservative extremists.
And so they weren't going to believe the truth.
They believed the people lying to them.
And they believed it all the way up until the moment of truth when they found out they've been lied to.
And even with all that, the concern now is not these people and the costs that they're going to experience.
Oh, no.
The concern in the media.
How will this affect Obama and the Democrat Party?
And what can we do to mitigate that?
Look, I'm going to get to the phones here in a minute.
I'm going to have to, folks, because I'm so spitting mad.
I cannot tell you.
And I got another follow-up note to my friend who told me what I'm not getting.
Told me how best to understand the Inside the Beltway sophisticates.
People that really don't have any principle or anything.
And he's got a point here.
He said, Rush, I'm surprised you.
All I'm saying is it shouldn't be a surprise to you.
Many times, when the 2012 election looked close, I heard, and I'm sure you heard, the following in an intentionally sophisticated tone from business-savvy but politically naive people.
Quote, Obama's big mistake was going for the health care bill.
He should have focused on economic growth.
And I, you know, folks, I have to admit that this guy has a point.
I'll never forget.
I was watching, I forget it was a cable news show, and it was somebody like Fareed Zakaria GPS using his frequent location data on his show, or somebody, somebody, some liberal commentator with a Wall Street-type guest.
And it was about the 2012 election, and they were talking about how clearly Obama is going to do something about the debt.
And no, they said clearly Obama is interested in reducing the debt as part of his campaign.
I said, whoa, what am I watching?
My friend here is right.
The people I'm talking about were ranking members of the D.C. establishment, ranking network commentator, network guest.
I forget the names.
I don't really know who, but take your pick.
You know, one was a Wall Street Journal reporter and the other one was some typical business network guest or whatever.
And my mouth is open in incredulity.
Do you really think that Obama is going to have to and wants to do something about the debt?
Have you not lived through these four years of $5 trillion of new debt practically written single-handedly by the guy?
And so the point is, you have all of these moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans inside the beltway, the New York, Washington, Boston corridor.
A lot of them are on Wall Street, a lot of them are in Hollywood, a lot of them everywhere.
And they voted for Obama and they just assume that every politician wants to lower the debt, that every politician wants to grow the economy to facilitate reelection.
Those are just the standard, ordinary operating procedure assumptions.
And they all make them, that a good economy is a top priority.
And so they debate Obama's policies within that framework, missing totally what he's really doing, which is transforming, rearranging, and reordering the economy by shrinking it.
These people are considered the wizards of SMART, the Warren Buffetts and Bill Gates's of the world, and they are clueless.
They do not see what's right in front of their noses.
My friend here is right.
They do live on these assumptions that every politician has certain things about them that are identical.
And one is when it's re-election time, they want a growing economy and reduce the debt.
And so they just plug that in when talking about Obama and say this is what he's going to have to do, is what he wants to do, is just a debt reduction policies.
And meanwhile, we watch this, and it's no wonder we tune them out.
They're clueless.
They don't know what they're talking about.
And these are the same people that didn't have the slightest clue, apparently, what Obamacare was all about and why Obama really wants it.
And now they've looked at it from the standard prism of Washington legislation that every president wants to do something that's going to help, in this case, healthcare.
They can't conceive a politician writing, sponsoring legislation that'll hurt something.
So they don't even consider it.
So they look at it within the framework of it's helping.
And then when it doesn't work, like this rollout is showing it's an absolute disaster, then they start wringing their hands.
Well, why did Obama lie?
Which is all fine and dandy, but it wouldn't insult me as much if I wasn't told that these are the smart people and we're the rubes and the idiots.
They're the ruling class.
We're the country class.
We don't know what we're talking about when in fact we're being governed and led by absolute buffoons.
Forget the ideological component.
Nancy Pelosi's a buffoon.
So is Harry Reid.
They're also radical liberal buffoons, but they're buffoons.
Morons.
And of course, the inside the Beltway culture, the media treats them not as buffoons, but as the architects and the wizards of smart.
And we are the rubes.
And then when it all goes wrong, the only area of concern they have: oh my God, how's this going to affect us?
And not them personally, but them politically.
How's this going to affect our hold on power?
How's this going to affect our ability to get power?
Not, you know, they're not asking, my gosh, how are we going to afford health care?
You know, why?
Because they got their carve-out.
They got their subsidies.
Pardon me for yelling.
I'm sorry.
I really got to go to the phone, so I'm going to go nuts here.
Because I am so ticked off.
I can't tell you.
This woman at Chicago Tribune story, or this Sun-Time story, this Ms. Klinghoffer, whatever her name is, this woman, her plan was $2.25 a month with a $1,500 deductible.
Now it's $345 a month and a $6,500 deductible.
And she can't afford it.
She says that to get the same kind of plan that she had before Obamacare was enacted, she would have to pay $647 a month.
But members of Congress don't because they got their 70% subsidy.
Remember, they said they couldn't afford it.
The staff and members of Congress are making $174,000.
They couldn't afford it.
They begged Obama for a carve-out.
They got their carve-out.
If it weren't for the congressional 70% subsidy, we would be bombarded with stories like this from Capitol Hill, from members of the staff and elected officials who would also be complaining about these massive Obamacare costs.
But they got their subsidies.
You know, I don't often often start, well, I don't know what I've been doing.
I've probably been yelling and that's never good.
But I tell you what, I can't tell you how mad I am.
I mean, look, it's stupidity offends me anyway.
Abject, utter ignorance and stupidity when there's no reason for it offend me.
When the truth has been out there simply by turning on the radio or reading one web page now and then, the truth has been easy to find.
And when these doom coughs come along and reject it because of their own closed-minded political bigotry, I'm sorry, I got no sympathy for them, but I've got a lot of anger because they have all joined together in their blessed ignorance and screwed all of us.
And now they have the temerity to start whining and crying about, I didn't know your problem.
You were told you just chose not to listen to it, stupid, idiot, glittering jewel of colossal ignorance.
Okay.
Okay.
I'm done for a while.
Shelly in Orlando.
As we go to the phones, great to have you on the EIB network.
Hello.
Rush.
I've been waiting for you to write a book, Dittos.
I've got my copy of the book today, so I wanted to be one of the first ones to do it.
You got your copy?
I have it right here.
Where did you get it?
I pre-ordered it on Amazon the day that you talked about it first.
You pre-ordered it in Amazon and it was delivered today?
Yep, this morning.
We're going to have to send somebody and take it from you because you're not supposed to have it until tomorrow.
Well, I won't give away the engine.
No, I'm just kidding.
Really?
You got it already?
I do.
And it is beautiful.
Every page is just beautiful.
Oh, you're making my day.
Your call could not have come at a better time.
I am so happy to hear you say that because we worked really hard putting this together.
There are a lot of illustrations and even some pictures in the book.
It did bring about a request, though, that I have.
My two-year-old boy listens to the show with me usually.
He's home with me, and he knows who you are.
And he was very excited when the book came to.
And he said, let's read it.
Let's read it.
But it's just too beautiful to give it to a two-year-old and see what he does with it.
So I think maybe there needs to be a preschool companion book.
A preschool companion book?
Yes.
What would it be the same episodes, but for preschoolers?
The same.
You mean just something they could get Eminem's fingerprints on and stuff without?
Right, right.
You have the same story and the same pictures.
How about a laminated copy?
That would.
You're really afraid.
There you go.
Well, that's a fascinating thought.
You're going to read it to your two-year-old?
We'll probably read a little bit, especially after I read it.
Then I can maybe just summarize it and shorten the story a little bit for him.
But he did.
He wanted to read it right when we took it out of the box.
Well, I'll tell you, that's great.
Really, I cannot tell you what great timing you have here with your call.
You have totally changed my mind.
I was talking to you.
Well, the immediate solution, Shelly, is to go buy five more copies and thereby and give one to your two-year-old and then let him do with it what he does.
And then you'll have three or four pristine copies as backups.
Good idea.
That's the simplest way.
I mean, even if I were to say to you today, okay, we will come out with a preschool edition, that wouldn't happen for a while.
But you could get a backup copy tomorrow.
That's true.
Well, it's still on pre-order price today, right?
Yep.
It's still the pre-order price today.
This is it.
This is the last day to pre-order.
That's exactly.
That's a great point.
Amazon, Barnes and Noble are iTunes, iBooks.
Yeah, absolutely.
Shelly, you know, I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
I'll tell you what, I want to put you on hold, and I want you to give Mr. Snerdley a FedEx address that we can use, and I will send a copy and sign it to your son, okay?
Oh, thank you.
You give Snerdley his name, and I'll sign a copy and we'll get it out to you, okay?
Oh, you're great.
Thank you.
You are welcome.
I'll take a quick time out.
We'll be back in just a second.
Don't go away, folks.
And we're back.
El Rushball at a cutting edge of societal evolution.
Ladies and gentlemen, I must, using my instincts here, apologize for the last 15 minutes or so.
It may have sounded like I was on the verge of out of control, and I wasn't.
I just, my passion got the best of me, and I really did not mean to be shouting at everybody like that.
Passion's one thing.
Shouting is another.
And I hope you will accept my apology.
I don't take back anything I said, but I, because it is just amazingly frustrating to be confronted with such willful ignorance.
It's so unnecessary.
The truth did not require a password.
The truth did not require a login.
The truth didn't even require a lot of effort.
It just required an open mind.
I mean, even if you're a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat and you have ultimate total faith in your party, it doesn't serve anybody.
I'll just speak for myself.
It doesn't serve me at all to lie about anything to anybody, to make anything up just to advance an agenda.
Even if I gain ground that way, it's not real.
It's all based on Balsa Wood lies.
Do not do that.
We're now looking here at what is the ultimate destruction of what was the best healthcare system in the world and what was the greatest economy of the world.
And we've got people who now didn't know.
You did know.
You had a chance to know.
You didn't avail yourself of the opportunity.
You're running around.
You're calling everybody else close-minded.
You're calling everybody else an extremist bigot.
And you revel in ignorance because it is you who are closed-minded.
The truth was easy to learn about who Obama is and about what Obamacare was intended to be.
So if you pardon me, I think I'm sensing a pattern here, folks.
There's a story today, and I've got it.
Well, I don't have time to play the sound bite, but I've got a montage of all these media people saying Obama didn't know about NSA spying.
Obama didn't know.
He didn't know about the IRS.
He didn't know about Fast and Furious.
He didn't know that Obamacare's website was going to be a buy.
He didn't know anything.
And that's the excuse.
I just saw Gloria Borger on CNN.
Oh, Obama didn't know.
As though that's something to be proud of?
That is a legitimate excuse.
The president didn't know that the NSA was spying on foreign leaders.
And you want us to give him a pass because he's that out of touch and detached that he didn't know.
When the fact of the matter is, they're lying to us again.
This BS he didn't know.
How stupid do they think we are?
Obama doesn't know anything about Benghazi.
He doesn't know anything about Fast and Furious.
He didn't know anything about Syria.
He didn't know anything about Obamacare.
He didn't know anything about the NSA.
He didn't know anything about Solyndra.
He didn't know anything about how the stimulus was going to go wrong.
He didn't know diddly squat.
Congress had no idea that it would be this bad.
They didn't know.
The conservative talking heads in Washington didn't know for five weeks how bad it was going to be.
The political consultants, Republicans and Democrats, they didn't know.
Nobody had any idea.
Nobody in Washington has any idea about anything.
The news today is who didn't know?
And they're doing it in a way that makes them look like they're proud of it, as though it's a legitimate excuse.
Oh, don't get mad at Obama.
He didn't know about the NSA spying.
Oh, he didn't?
No, no.
And that's why you shouldn't be mad.
He didn't know.
You mean these powerful forces that he can't control are out doing all this, and he doesn't know anything about it?
That's right.
He's out campaigning.
He's as upset about it as anybody else.
He didn't.
Am I doing it again?
Well, I'll tell you: the only people that knew Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin, me, talk radio, we knew.
