I mean, even quoting Butz, I'm not going to tell you what he said.
It was during the Ford re-election campaign.
He was the agriculture secretary.
He said it in private.
John Dean reported it.
John Dean leaked it to Rolling Stone.
Didn't specifically name Butts, but it was attributed to Butts.
BUTZ, Butts resigned.
There was no other possibility.
It was just that bad.
And I always thought that it was Butts who had talked about the cabinet and if they just had a cripple and it had a whole thing perfectly PC.
But that was James Watt in the Reagan years.
And he left.
So anyway, welcome back, folks.
Great to have you.
I'm happy to be corrected.
Doesn't happen much, but when it needs to be, it gets done.
Telephone number is 800-282-2882.
If you want to be in the program and the email address, lrushboardeibnet.com.
Back to the audio soundbites quickly, as there's always a sense of urgency on this program.
It's by design, if you will.
And I mentioned earlier in the program, we're talking about the theory of mine that when it comes to the Obamacare defund and even combined with the shutdown, I do believe that it is the Democrats who are beginning to panic, or maybe just shy of panic, but clearly the Republicans are not losing this.
And I provided a number of things I think are evidence of this during the program today.
And Obama's doing a pressure.
Everybody's sitting around waiting for his press conference to start.
I mean, all of this, you know, Obama's saying, I'll negotiate with anybody anytime, anywhere, as long as they come to the table ready to agree with me.
Republicans do not seem like the crazies here.
The Republicans do not seem like the uncompromising whatever negatives are usually attached to them.
Democrats are the ones that have come off mean and heartless here.
And Obama voters, this fiasco at the Obamacare website is a biggie, and some fascinating things that have been written about that.
Oh, and by the way, the National Mall is closed, except it's not.
They opened the National Mall for a rally for amnesty today.
It's closed for standard, ordinary, everyday American citizen use because of the shutdown.
But Obama, the regime, opened it up today for use by pro-Amnesty immigration forces.
And there's a big mob out there, a big crowd out there.
And I'm just telling you, folks, these are things that the low-information voters, they see it.
This is not something they have to be led to and have to be told.
They see this stuff.
And I think, you know, we had Aaron Burnett telling the forehead, you know, you guys overshot this.
You're predicting the end of the world on this shutdown, and it isn't the end of the world.
You predicted the end of the world and it's equestered in the end of the world.
It's actually pretty good.
And so on Anderson Cooper last night, he had Republican strategist Ana Navarro, Daily Beast editor-in-chief, Tina Brown.
And they're talking about the shutdown.
And Anna Navarro said there has to be a solution that saves face for the Speaker, the Republicans in the White House.
That'd be a good solution, a good way to do things.
I don't know what she's talking about here.
But regardless, Anna is solid GOP establishment.
She would be big on immigration reform and so forth.
She would be among people inside the Beltway who think the Republicans are getting creamed.
And probably you do too.
I get email from people who think I'm full of it.
Come on, Rush, have you had a news wrong?
Let me Republicans again.
They're clarks clean.
I'm telling you, I think the perception outside the beltway is not that.
But we'll see.
Anyway, Tina Brown had this to say about Democrats winning and losing and all that.
What we're seeing now in the polls is that the blaming of the Republicans alone is now also shifting to Democrats in the sense that now people just want the government just to work together and get it done.
And there may be now actually a very good moment, I think, for the Democrats to start negotiating over the budget before the debt ceiling and before all of that, rather than continually taking the stance that, you know, we're not going to just give in to hostages.
Well, no, there's no other way to read this.
This is, again, as I posited yesterday, it is this one word, negotiate.
Apparently what's happened is the Democrats are seen as refusing.
And as much as it might bother me, the American people want this to happen.
They want there to be this negotiation and getting along.
And don't forget, they who voted for Obama thought that's what his election meant, among many other things.
Because he promised it.
And the media told them that this is a new kind of politician.
And he exploited that.
He promised everybody that the old politics and constant bickering was over.
And there was a new day, a new era of cooperation and all that rotgut.
And it's not happening.
And so here, Tina Brown, the Democrats, polling is shifting.
The Democrats are now seen as the ones who are obstinate and refuse to talk.
It's in the polling.
They had a 61% disapproval for Democrats on this, folks.
And it's on the plus side, 70% for Republicans, 61% blaming the Democrats on this.
That's why Obama's doing oppressor.
And that's why all of these people are starting to panic.
You're Frank Rich, another regime stalwart.
He was on with Piers Morgan last night.
Frank Rich used to be at the New York Times.
Now he's over at New York Magazine.
This is the guy.
Never mind.
It doesn't matter.
Well, it does.
Frank Rich left his family for a year to live with a gay couple to experience it.
To be able to relate.
No, he did.
As a means of being able to be more able to write about gay issues.
At any rate, he was on with Piers Morgan, and Piers Morgan said, what does it mean for the future of the Republican Party?
Midterms are coming up.
He had the big election in 2016.
It can't be helpful, can it, to their chances of doing well in either of those two elections if they are seen to be absolutely ideologically at each other's throats?
Like it or not, they have a long game in view, and they see themselves as revolutionaries.
And of course, Republicans do control a lot of state houses.
And so there's the local fights, which are completely different from the national fight.
Americans tend to look at the marquee event, which is the presidential election, and there they're definitely hurting themselves, and they may well hurt themselves in representation in Congress, but they have a longer view.
They have a very strong ideology that's persisted for decades, arguably stronger than any that's uniting the Democratic Party at any time, at least since the New Deal.
He's all wet about the substance there in terms of what this might mean electorally.
But nevertheless, he's cautioning old Piers Morgan here against dismissing what's going on on the conservative side.
You might think they're a bunch of crazies, but they're not losing the day out there.
Now, this protest, this whatever it is that's going on on the national mall, there are a number of top Democrats that are attending this demonstration.
Pelosi is out there, for example.
Don't they know that our immigration laws are the law of the land?
What are they out there trying to change the immigration law for?
Our immigration laws don't need to be changed.
All they need to do is enforce them.
I thought the laws were sacrosanct.
I thought once the law was there, you didn't change it.
You didn't try to defund it or repeal it or any of that.
I think these immigration protesters ought to just shut up and accept that and get out of the park.
It's the law of the land.
Immigration, as it is, is already the law of the land, and it isn't amnesty.
Well, that's what they're saying about our efforts to defund Obamacare.
Just shut up and go home.
It's a law of the land.
Who do you think you are?
But above and beyond that, the National Mall is off-limits to everybody except for a waiver that was granted to the pro-amnesty forces today to go out there and use the park, use the mall.
I'm just telling you, things like this get noticed and are seen.
Why can't the World War II vets have a waiver?
That's exactly.
I know.
It's a great question.
World War II vets are not allowed to go into the memorial, even though they're at the end of their lives.
It may be their only chance to go see their memorial.
Why can't they go?
Because they're not in a favored Obama group.
Letting the vets in does not advance the Democrat agenda.
Opening them all up to immigration activists keeps immigration money flowing to the Democrat Party and advances their agenda.
I'm telling you, we've got who was it that somebody in a soundbite earlier today referred to this as an imperial presidency that a lot of people have, and they're right.
It's exactly what this is.
You know, I just listened to a little bit of Obama at his press conference, and it is obvious that you didn't get scared enough over what the Republicans are trying to do with the shutdown in Obamacare.
So now he's really piling it onto this thing, and it is so over the top.
And folks, what he said just is not true.
I mean, from start to finish, what he said about the debt limit is not true.
The Republicans have got to come out when this is over.
Somebody has to go to a microphone and correct this ASEP.
He's using words like nuclear bomb, hold hostage.
He said the American people don't get to demand a ransom when they have to pay their mortgage.
The American people also don't get to pay their mortgage by raising their debt limit and going to the Fed, Mr. President, and having them print money for it.
I'm asking myself if we have ever had, as I listen to it, and I'm not exaggerating, I'm asking in my lifetime, have we ever had a more dishonest president?
I mean, with all due respect, what he just said about the debt limit is, well, I don't know how to characterize it.
It just, it was dead wrong.
This is a man who voted twice against raising the debt ceiling when he was a senator.
He did it once in March of 2006 and again in September 2007.
So it obviously can't be a crime against humanity.
Now, what he said was that, and he reiterated it.
He said, just because we raised the debt limit doesn't mean we're going to go into more debt.
The Republicans want you to believe that that's what we're going to do.
And he said, if we don't raise the debt limit, we will not be able to pay our bills.
And Warren Buffett has called that a nuclear bomb.
And he quoted a couple of other people.
And I'm telling you, don't take my word for it.
He's lying.
Or let me say it a different way.
He's wrong.
There's just, that is so incorrect.
We will not default with the debt limit where it is.
It's not even possible, folks.
Every month, the federal government collects income and other tax revenue.
And the amount of revenue that the government collects every month is much more than is needed to pay our bills.
And paying our bills is essentially paying the interest on the debt.
That's it.
And we have the money to do that, whether the debt limit changes or not.
And he is just making it up when he tells people otherwise.
This was really bad.
It was really, really bad.
And here's a guy who voted twice against raising the debt limit when he was a senator, 2006 and 2007.
And he did it to try to shut down the war in Iraq.
In one instance, I forget what the other reason was for.
And in both instances, he called Bush all kinds of names.
He called him irresponsible and any other number of things for wanting to raise the debt limit.
This is not how you run a government, he said.
This is irresponsible.
The only way we will default, regardless what the debt limit is, is if Obama refuses to follow the law, which, I hate to say, could be possible.
That could happen.
Because the Obamacare law that we have now is not the law that he signed.
He's already made random changes in it.
All these waivers and the delay of the employer mandate.
He just took it upon himself to do it.
The law did not provide for that.
He just did it.
But I can't tell you how bad this is.
It's beyond my ability without raising my voice and shouting.
He's calling what the Republicans are doing extortion.
He said we can't make extortion extreme.
There is no extortion going on here.
I think it's clear you're not scared enough.
And so he's out there trying to really scare you.
The end of your country could just happen on October 17th if you don't let him get rid of the Republicans.
This is really outrageous, what he said.
My grab sound by 26.
I watched a little bit more of President Obama.
There's a guy who's trying to make it sound like he'll negotiate.
And yet he's accusing the Republicans of ransoms and hostage taking and all of this.
But it really is egregious.
He is continuing to tell these whoppers about the debt limit not leading to more debt and about default.
Let me give you the numbers.
Our average monthly cost to service the national debt is $18 billion.
That's what we have to come up with every month to pay the interest on the debt.
And that is essentially paying our bills.
We take in an average of $225 billion a month.
And by law, it is law, although that matters less and less to this administration.
By law, the president must pay interest on the debt before anything else.
By law, we're not even close to not having the money for it, whether we raise the debt limit or not.
We're taking in $225 billion.
Thomas Sowell wrote about this recently.
Everybody knows this.
He's getting away with entirely, totally mischaracterizing this and mischaracterizing the Republicans.
And I'm going to tell you, this is a panic press conference.
He is doing this presser because the Democrats are losing in poll after poll on who is the problem when it comes to negotiating.
Listen to a little soundbite.
This is not Obama talking about the debt limit per se, but just listen to the lingo here as he attempts to equate what the Republicans are trying to make him do with the way you live your life.
The American people do not get to demand a ransom for doing their jobs.
You don't get a chance to call your bank and say, I'm not going to pay my mortgage this month unless you throw in a new car and an Xbox.
If you're in negotiations around buying somebody's house, you don't get to say, well, let's talk about the price I'm going to pay.
And if you don't give me the price, then I'm going to burn down your house.
That's not how negotiations work.
In the same way, members of Congress and the House Republicans in particular don't get to demand ransom in exchange for doing their jobs.
Folks, who would want to talk to a megalomaniac like this?
By the way, who does he think his audience is?
You don't get to call the bank and say, I'm not paying the mortgage unless you throw in an Xbox.
He's clearly aiming at the low-information voter out there.
And I'm not going to buy your house unless you agree to the price I'm going to pay.
And if you don't give me the price, I'm going to burn down your house.
If anybody's burning down the house right now, it's Barack Obama, folks.
And what the Republicans are doing is trying to put out the fire.
But this is this whole thing of his today is so beneath the office of President of the United States.
This is embarrassing.
Nobody in the past has ever seriously threatened to breach debt ceiling until the last two years.
That's...
That's another lie.
This kind of thing has been going on since Eisenhower.
Robert Byrd tried to stop Eisenhower from doing his highway project, the interstate highway system.
Byrd tried to stop that with the debt limit game.
This is nothing new about this.
Even Britt Hume is starting to get it.
He just tweeted, shorter Obama, you give up all your bargaining leverage and then I'll talk with you.
But if you stop hostage-taking and ransom and burning down the country, then I'll talk to you.
This is actually, I mean, it's infuriating, but it's pretty sad, too, folks.
I just have to tell you, this is really just backyard bully kind of taunting that is happening here.
The Republicans need to go out and really straighten out the record on this whole concept of default.
He's trying to make everybody believe the Republicans don't want us to pay our bills.
It's not a factor.
Here's David in Detroit.
David, I'm glad you called.
I appreciate it.
Welcome to the EIB Network.
Hello.
Mr. Limbaugh, a pleasure, and you are a great patriot.
Thank you.
Well, thank you, sir.
I appreciate that.
Yes, sir.
When does the condensation stop?
I mean, this guy continues to talk down to people like I've never heard any other president.
I'm 54 years old this coming month.
I don't get it.
When does it stop?
At what point do the American people say enough is enough?
And I know we have some patriots out there, but it's really disgusting.
Well, I don't, you know, I agree.
I don't know that the American people are, that this group of Americans are going to react that way, although he is being really condescending to him.
This whole press conference today is really an indication of just the contempt he holds people in.
He is really ticked off that he has to even deal with opposition here.
That's what really bugs him.
He thinks anybody opposed, this is just insolence.
He ought not to have to waste any time on it.
He is so mad, almost like a spoiled, rotten elitist that's gotten his way all through life and has to deal with some adversity and doesn't like it and doesn't want to and doesn't know how.
But, I mean, comparing what's happening here with people paying their mortgage, does he not know what he's done to the value of people's homes?
This is just, I really, folks, I'm kind of stuck.
I don't know how to characterize this any better than I have.
I mean, I'm really spitting, shouting mad, and I'm trying to contain myself.
But this whole press conference is the equivalent of 1-800 FU.
This whole press conference is the President of the United States flipping the country to bird, is what this is.
And you're asking what the media, they're just sitting there soaking it all up.
They don't know quite what to do.
They're just, he's their guy, and whatever it has to do to protect him, don't expect anything there.
That's why there's got to be some retort to this from the Republican Party.
David, I appreciate the call.
So we're supposed to believe a guy who can't tell the truth about Obamacare and can't build a website.
We're supposed to believe a guy who preaches doom and gloom and Armageddon over the debt ceiling.
Now, why would we believe that Obama would abide by the debt limit anyway?
He's got no problem changing or ignoring any other law when it suits him, even his own Obamacare.
And he's happy to ignore immigration law.
This is really – 25 years I've been sitting here trying to figure out how to persuade people what people like Obama are doing.
I mean, this is just flat out insulting.
It's mean.
None of it's true.
It's arrogant.
It's got every characteristic that I find really offensive and repulsive.
Every one of them are encapsulated or included in this.
But it's the flat out misrepresentation of the debt limit and the inability to pay the debt if we don't raise it that gets me.
And this is flat out false, what he's telling people.
He continues to use examples of people buying a mortgage.
What if you went to buy a house and people selling it didn't have a title?
Well, you wouldn't trust that much, would you?
What in the world is he talking about?
So all these people have here is to call Republicans bomb throwers, arsonists, hostage takers.
It really is.
Here, grab some by 27.
This is basically Obama's Armageddon if he doesn't get his way.
A decision to actually go through with it, to actually permit default, according to many CEOs and economists, would be, and I'm quoting here, insane, catastrophic, chaos.
These are some of the more polite words.
Warren Buffett likened default to a nuclear bomb, a weapon too horrible to use.
It would disrupt markets.
It would undermine the world's confidence in America as the bedrock of the global economy.
If anybody's undermining confidence in America, it's him, places like Syria and any number of other things.
But there's no default.
Financially, there's no reason for default.
We got plenty of money, whether we raise a debt limit or not.
$225 billion a month comes in.
We owe $18 billion.
There's no question of default.
It would not happen.
Anyway, he's spending a lot of time.
He just said, let's just get the House.
Let's call a vote.
Let's just call a vote and be done with this.
Because he believes what he reads or is told that there are 20 Republicans in the House that are willing to walk away from this shutdown right now and end this.
And there aren't.
Corey in Laurel Hill, Florida.
I've got about half a minute, but I wanted to get to you because you've been on hold for so long.
Hello.
Hey, Russ, Deb Jeb.
I cannot believe I finally got through after 20 years.
Here you are, sir.
Yes, I am.
Listen, I have three points, but I'll probably only be able to get to one of them.
The first one was a term you coined years ago, symbolism over substance.
The NFL with the pink and the pink and the pink and the pink.
That is that does nothing to cure breast cancer.
People looking at the pink socks or pink flags or pink towels does nothing to cure breast cancer.
Right, but what is it doing?
What is it doing?
It does nothing.
If the NFL wanted to cure breast cancer or helped to cure breast cancer, they could donate some of the money that they make from their ticket sales or advertising.
They are.
Then they get money from you.
They are.
But I'll tell you what it is.
You just said it.
Symbolism over substance.
It's public relations.
They're trying to attract women to the games, to the market.
And it's all about showing that they care and getting value from that.
Purpose of this press conference was for Obama to repeat two words for one hour, ransom and hostage-taking and attached to the Republicans.
