Time Text
Greetings and welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
So happy to have you here.
El Rushbo, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
I see the Oprah.
I just got a note.
I have not listened to any of this of the King Memorial.
I've got it on the monitors here, but I haven't listened to any of it.
I just got a note from a very, very, I mean, this guy tells me things, and he doesn't exaggerate.
He doesn't edit trail.
He said, Rush, this thing has been totally hijacked.
I mean, this thing has become totally radical.
There's nothing – this is not anything to do with Martin Luther King.
Now, which I'm not surprised to hear, I've pretty much predicted this.
I mean, Obama is a radical.
Let me ask you a question, folks.
Who do you think has personally faced more racism in America?
Clarence Thomas or Barack Obama?
Clarence Thomas or Oprah Winfrey?
Dr. Benjamin Carson or Barack Obama.
I mean, real victims of racism are not on this stage, apparently.
But that's the only note I got.
This thing is getting radical on the moral rush.
It's been hijacked.
And as I say, the guy who sent me the note does not make things up or exaggerate.
No, we haven't connected with Senator Cruz yet.
He's supposed to be here in this segment.
He's only got like 10 or 15 minutes.
The guy is jammed today, and we're waiting to hear from him.
And the minute he calls, we will connect with him.
You know, let me take the occasion to answer a question here that's got nothing to do with anything.
People watching the Ditto Cam can, of course, see what's going on here.
And you people listening on the radio cannot see what's going on here.
And the people watching on the Ditto Cam are getting frustrated at watching me doing something that they don't understand.
They're sending me no, what are you doing with your phone?
Because I am.
I'm playing with the phone and I'm checking something.
And apparently my face is betraying anger or frustration.
And it's a distraction for people watching.
And they want to know what I'm doing.
And I don't think any of you are going to care about this.
But as you know, I'm an Apple.
I'm a fanboy.
And I am running the new iOS 7 betas on my iPhones.
I have three iPhones for a host of reasons.
And it's, well, you now cannot be bored by my story.
Senator Cruz has just made it to our program.
Senator Cruz, I know you're limited time here.
Thanks very much for joining us.
How are you today, sir?
Rush, I'm doing terrific, and it is always a real privilege and honor to join you.
Well, I'm glad to have you here.
There's a big argument.
Let's just cut to the chase here on Obamacare.
The arguments are delay it, defund it.
You're part of the defund it side.
You think it can happen via the continuing resolution debate at the end of September.
The delay crowd and the people opposed to this, no, no, no, the government shutdown is part of this.
And look what happened the last time the government was shut down in 95.
Look what happened to Republicans then.
How do you deal with this?
What do you tell people that raise these objections?
Well, part of the problem with the delay crowd is they don't have a plan to actually get it done.
When they say they want to delay it, what they really mean is they want to take a symbolic vote on a delay, but not tie it to anything that has to pass.
So the House can take 1,000 symbolic votes if they want.
Harry Reid will not allow any of them to pass into law.
So it becomes an exercise of just political cover rather than actually fixing the problem.
Look, Rush, Obamacare, as you know, is the biggest job killer in the country, and the wheels are falling off of this thing.
I mean, there is bipartisan agreement.
It's not working.
The unions are jumping ship.
People are losing their jobs.
They're having their hours forcibly reduced.
Just last week, UPS told 18,000 employees, you're losing your spousal coverage.
Your husband and wives are losing their health insurance because of Obamacare.
And unfortunately, right now, Republicans are still not ready to stand up and do what it takes to stop this law, to listen to the American people and say, listen, let's get rid of this job killer.
And the only plan that has been put forward that has any realistic prospect of success, of actually stopping Obamacare, is using the continuing resolution on September 30th and saying, we will not fund one penny of Obamacare.
If we can get 41 Republicans in the Senate to do that, or 218 Republicans in the House, we have the votes to do it.
But we've got to get those votes.
And right now, far too many Republicans are scared of this fight.
Now, I have people I know who are on the delay side, and they say they have sent me notes.
What are you doing supporting this fund business?
Don't you know that's nothing but a fundraising effort?
Those people don't stand a prayer of accomplishing what they want to accomplish.
It's just another division in the Republican Party.
It's really kind of disappointing that we can't even come to some sort of unified purpose on something as radical as this.
Listen, I agree that the division in the Republican Party is unfortunate and it's disappointing.
For months, Mike Lee and I and others have been pressing, saying, okay, what is your plan to stop Obamacare?
And for months, the answer has been crickets, has been, well, we want to take lots of symbolic votes, but we're not going to do anything to actually stop it.
And as you know, the exchanges are going to be up and running shortly.
On January 1st, the subsidies are scheduled to kick in.
And President Obama's strategy is very simple.
He wants to get as many Americans as possible addicted to the subsidies, addicted to the sugar, because he knows that in modern times, no major entitlement has ever been implemented and then unwound.
That's where he gets as many people signed up to those exchanges as possible.
It makes it all that much more difficult to take it away from them.
That's exactly right.
The IRS came out with their schedule of fines, and this is another thing.
I mean, the first year, the fine is $95 or 1% of your income, whichever is greater.
I don't care which one you go for.
You're nowhere near the price of an insurance policy.
You're going to have more people choosing the fines.
And what's that going to do to the insurance business?
They're not going to be selling policies.
They're going to go out of business.
And that's part of the design of this, too.
That's exactly the intent, is to destroy the private insurance business, to cause people to lose their private health insurance and be forced essentially to move to single-payer, government-provided health insurance, which was Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama's plan from day one.
And the Republicans who are saying we can't win this fight, they don't have an alternative strategy.
And, you know, Rush, you lose 100% of the fights that you begin with by surrendering.
And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If the Republicans all say we cannot win this fight, then they will prove themselves eventually right.
How much of that, though, is Republicans not even wanting to engage in it, and they just offer that as an excuse.
I mean, really, because this budget shutdown argument, the government shutdown argument, if you go back to 1995, and I know this has become somewhat cliched, I mean, the only place that the Republicans suffered really great damage was in the media.
Yep.
But in reality, the Republican Party gained a couple seats in the Senate after that shutdown, didn't lose all that many in the House, but they were able to set the stage for policy advances that came later, such as welfare reform.
You've got Senator McCain, a story today, said that this divide on this effort to defund Obamacare means that it's time to have an open and honest debate about the future of the whole party.
We've got to sit down and figure out just who we are, where we are, and where we're going.
What about this shutdown business?
What are your thoughts on the real dangers of that, and if it would happen, or could it really happen?
Would it be taken that for?
I think you're exactly right about the history of 1995, that there was some short-term political pain.
But at the same time, because Republicans stood together, we saw year after year of balanced budgets, which never would have happened if Republicans had folded like they're trying to fold right now.
And listen, I think what should happen, the House should pass a continuing resolution.
It should fund every bit of the federal government except Obamacare.
It should explicitly prohibit any funding, federal funding, discretionary or mandatory for Obamacare.
And then if President Obama threatens to shut down the federal government, he may well try to do that.
If that happens, we've got to stand up and do something we haven't done in a long time.
Win the argument.
Say, listen, we have voted to fund the government.
We want to keep the government open.
Why is President Obama threatening to shut it down?
He's granted waivers to giant corporations.
Why is President Obama threatening to shut the federal government down in order to deny those same waivers to hardworking American families?
Well, you've got a lot of Republicans who think they'll never be able to sell that because it's going to be the media saying you shut it down.
Look, the mainstream media will all read word for word the talking points from the White House.
But the beauty between cable and Fox News and Rush, between you, between talk radio, between the Internet, we can get the message out.
But let me concede one thing right now, which is if the ordinary rules of Washington apply, we can't win this fight.
We can't get 41 Republicans or 218 Republicans in the House.
The only way we will be able to win this fight is if we see a grassroots tsunami.
There is a national website, don'tfundit.com, don'tfundit.com.
In just a few weeks, we have gotten 725,000 signatures from all across this country.
You know, two nights ago, I was on Hannity's TV show, and within 24 hours of going on that show, we had 100,000 signatures added to that list.
What I would say to every one of your listeners is if you're fed up with politicians not listening to the people, if you're fed up with politicians not having the courage to stand up and fight Obamacare, go to don'tfundit.com, sign the petition, pick up the phone, call your representative, call your senator, put Facebook comments on their Facebook pages, and get 10 of your friends to do the same.
You know, I feel confident, given your leadership, given the passion of the American people, that we can break a million signatures on this list.
If we get a million and then two million and then three million Americans standing up, holding our elected officials accountable, that's how we change the rules.
That's how we get 41 Republicans in the Senate, and that's eventually how we get Democrats and actually stop this train wreck that is Obamacare.
Now, is it don'tfundit.com?
Don'tfundit.com.
Is there an apostrophe in don't?
There is no apostrophe.
No apostrophe in don't fund it.com.
Okay.
Now, we have a history here of shutting down websites.
I have no doubt that this one's going to be shut down for a while because you're going to have millions of people going there to check it out.
So you're going to get some more signatures, Senator, out of this.
Don'tfundit.com without an apostrophe in don't.
Now, one last thing before you have to go.
It's not really related to this, but it's related to the Republican attitude.
Last night on the Fox business report with Lou Dobbs, a Democrat consultant named Mary Ann Marsh, they were talking about Syria and whether or not the president should have to go through Congress, like they demanded Bush do it.
Mary Ann Marsh said, no, this is a special Congress we're dealing with right now.
These people have the lowest popularity rating in history.
The Republicans oppose what we're trying to do.
The president can't be handcuffed by these same Republicans that are holding the country hostage on every other thing.
Why should we have to go through them?
This is an imperial presidency.
You've got a consultant speaking for a president.
Who needs Congress?
They don't agree with us, so we're going to bypass them.
But what strikes me, Senator, about that is you've got the Republicans who are doing everything they can right now to make the Democrats love them.
They're talking amnesty.
They're talking whatever Democrats say they have to do, the Republicans are doing.
And look what it's getting them.
I think they're respected less than they have been in my lifetime right now.
Russia.
So I don't know.
Why not just stand up and fight them?
Because going along with them is not getting anywhere.
You are exactly right.
This has been an imperial presidency.
It has been a lawless presidency.
You look at what's going on in Syria.
Right now, in the U.K., they're having an emergency session of Parliament to consider Syria.
In Israel, the Knesset is meeting an emergency session.
And yet, President Obama apparently wants to go to the U.N., but can't be bothered to go to the United States Congress or the American people and make the case.
Look, you know, the authority to declare war rests in Congress, not in an out-of-control president.
And, you know, I thought it was striking, actually, a comment Dennis Kucinich made of all people that I agreed with, which is he said, I wonder if President Obama realizes that he is acting as al-Qaeda's air force right now.
You know, the idea that we would be arming rebels, many of which are affiliated with al-Qaeda, of the nine rebel groups, up to seven of them may have affiliations with al-Qaeda, doesn't make any sense.
And President Obama is not looking to U.S. national security.
Instead, from their standpoint, arming al-Qaeda is a greater danger.
I mean, is a less danger, lesser danger than agreeing with the Republicans on anything.
And fundamentally, actually, these two issues, you look at Syria, you look at Obamacare, and they're tied together.
They're tied together by an arrogance of this administration that they don't believe they're accountable to the American people, and they are going to jam their agenda down the throats of the American people.
And on both of them, the answer, it's the same as it was on guns.
It's the same as it is on stopping amnesty, which is the American people have to rise up and hold every elected official accountable, Democrat and Republican, every one of us, including me.
Well, you're right, but the American people ought to have a political party that's willing to stand up and join them in stopping this, too.
And right now, they don't think they do.
They've got you.
They've got Mike Lee, a couple of three others.
Everybody else they see is caving.
Well, I agree, and sadly, right now, the people who are leading the fight to stop the effort to defund Obamacare are Republicans.
It's not Democrats.
That's a sad state of affairs.
I hope it changes.
I hope the Republicans stop trying to prevent us from defunding Obamacare, and instead we come together.
And the only way they will is if millions of Americans go to don'fundit.com, speak up, and demand that our elected officials listen to the people.
Senator Ted Cruz, he had to be out by 2.22, and you're out, sir.
Thank you so much for joining us, and I look forward to the next time.
Absolutely.
Thank you, Roger.
You bet.
Don'tfundit.com.
Now, remember, it's the internet, so there's no apostrophe in don't.
So think of it as don't.
Don'tfundit.com.
No apostrophe in don't.
And if you go there and you like what you see, maybe you sign it.
Thanks to Senator Ted Cruz, and we will be right back after this.
Don't go away.
Hi, welcome, you.
Welcome back, folks.
The website Senator Cruz spoke about, you can get there at don'fundit.com.
That is an alias.
The actual name of the website is don'tfundObamacare.com.
That's the full-length name.
Don'tfundit.com is an alias.
I tried don'tfundit.com.
I didn't get in because I shut it down.
I tried back a little later at don'tfundObamacare.com and did get in.
But I think we had generated something like 25,000 signatures during his interview, before his interview was even over.
So if you're having trouble at don'tfundIt.com, try don'tfundObamacare.com.
But if you don't get in, it's not been shut down.
It has been overloaded.
And you should keep trying.
Just because you can't get in doesn't mean it's damaged.
It's just being overloaded now.
So keep trying.
I mean, I did get in when I tried don'tfundObamacare.com, but don'tfundit.com works.
That's an alias.
So, let's see.
Okay, there's not enough time to do anything.
I've got to answer this because people are getting really irritated, and I don't want to spend a whole lot of time with this.
But I'm running the new iOS 7 beta.
I'm an Apple fanboy.
I love this stuff, as you know.
It's fabulous.
It's wonderful.
I can't wait till everybody has it.
However, there's a, in the new notification center, which is all brand new, there is a feature that, and this has been written about, so I'm not disclosing anything.
There's a feature that's Google now like that's a little bit predictive after you have built up a, say, a travel pattern, the location certain.
You can turn this off if you don't want it used.
I happen to like it, so I keep it on.
And essentially what it does, after you built up a pattern, the notification center will tell you what the weather is and what it's going to be, what your calendar looks like, stocks are doing, and so forth, your appointments that day, and it'll tell you what the traffic is for what it thinks your next destination is.
And the next destination thing is only working on one.
And I'm trying to, you know, I like to understand how things work.
And I don't know what triggers it.
And there's no documentation on it yet.
So there's no way of knowing what triggers it.
I've gone to forums.
I've tried to figure it out.
And it appears it's a beta.
So it's understandable it isn't working.
I'm just personally frustrated.
I wish it would because I think it's a killer feature.
Love it.
And I'm trying to make it work on the two that it's not working on.
But I'm sure it's just the fact that it's beta-related.
But anyway, that's what you see me doing every five minutes or every commercial break.
If you have any watching on the kiddo camp, that's that.
We'll be back after this.
So I was just watching a little bit of Jimmy Carter speaking at the Martin Luther King Memorial.
This is unbelievable.
He's going through a litany of things that Martin Luther King wouldn't like about today.
And he's going to have Voting Rights Act, Supreme Court striking it down.
The photo ID, Martin Luther King wouldn't like that, which is discriminatory and would deny people the right to vote.
How in the world can that, how in the world can a photo ID deny you the right to vote unless you're not who the photo is.
Anyway, he then said, and Dutch King would not like all of the high unemployment of black people and a high unemployment in black teenagers.
I'm watching this in stunned disbelief.
Well, who's running the show now?
Dr. King wouldn't like all the high African-American unemployment today.
We've only had four and a half years of the policy of the first African-American president responsible for it.
And by the way, it wasn't that much better when old Jimmy was in the White House himself.
When Jimmy himself was in the White House, it was, it needed a misery index to keep track of how bad it was.
Now, here is this 51 seconds.
This is Dr. King.
You're not hearing this message on the mall today.
You're not hearing this message in the Lincoln Memorial.
Dr. King, October 26, 1967, in Philadelphia at Barrett Jr. Haskruel.
What I'm saying to you this morning, my friend, even if it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, going out in sweet streets like Michelangelo painted pictures.
We've streets like Hambl and Beethoven composed music.
Sweet streets like Shakespeare wrote portraits.
Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill, be a scarb in the valley, but be the best little scrub on the side of the real.
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a highway, just be a trail.
If you can't be the sun, be a star.
It isn't by size that you win or you fail.
Be the best of whatever you are.
You don't hear that, sadly, from anybody in politics anymore.
You don't, you certainly don't hear that on the Democrat side.
And sadly, you don't hear this on the Republican side from very many people.
I'm going to play that for you again.
This is Dr. King.
This is years after the I Have a Dream speech, which was 1963.
This was five years later in Philadelphia to some junior high school students.
The school was Barrett Junior High.
What I'm saying to you this morning, my friend, even if it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, going out in sweet streets like Michelangelo painted pictures.
We've streets like Hampel and Beethoven composed music.
Sweet streets like Shakespeare wrote portraits.
Sweet streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill, be a scrub in the valley, but be the best little scrub on the side of the rio.
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a highway, just be a trail.
If you can't be the sun, be a star.
It isn't by size that you win or you fail.
Be the best of whatever you are.
And that's when you meet God.
The end of your life, you've been the best you can be at whatever your lot in life was.
This was a man, if I may translate this, this was a man speaking to the weak.
He wasn't coddling them.
He's saying, be as strong as you can be.
Be the best you can.
He was not coddling the weak.
He was not excusing them.
He was not, by weak, meek, whatever.
I'm not talking about weak in character.
It's clear what he's talking about.
There's value in every job.
Work is its own reward.
Do it the best you can and be known for it.
Because ultimately, your judgment is with God.
That's what's not on the tape, but that's how he concluded it.
He was the Reverend Dr. King, after all.
Regardless, they got Clinton up there now speaking.
You're not hearing anything like this message at this ceremony honoring him today.
And you're not, from what I'm hearing from credible reporters, you're not hearing anything similar to what he said in the I Have a Dream speech by the same token.
Okay, Cindy, in Lou, great to have you on the EIB network.
Hello.
Hello.
It's an honor to speak with you, longtime listener.
Thank you very much.
And this is kind of ironic.
We're actually perfect timing with Senator Cruz being on just a few minutes ago.
I just had a talk with my health care provider, which is Humana One here in Kentucky.
And I have a monthly premium now at $174.74 a month.
Last, three months ago, it was only one, it went up like $70, and I don't have any claims.
I'm relatively healthy.
Just go to my yearly checkup and you're like colonoscopy, that kind of thing.
It's a very major medical policy.
It's a $7,500 deductible, that kind of thing.
Anyway, and I just got off the phone with them about three, four hours ago this morning.
And now it's $468.08 a month, and that will start in December of 2014.
Well, actually, I guess it'll be January 2015, but actually, the rate will go up to that point, and it will be under a ACA compliant policy.
I will no longer be able to have the plan I have now.
No, no.
Because President Obama said under the Affordable Care Act, you get to keep your plan if you like it.
No, you're wrong about that.
You get to keep your plan.
You get to keep your doctor.
And you're wrong about your premiums tripling.
Your premiums are going to go down by $2,500.
The president said that, Cindy.
I know it.
And that's what happened.
I was really upset, and I told him, I said, can I speak to someone else?
Can I get another policy a lot cheaper and even maybe a higher deductible?
He said, they will not.
And he said, Humana One, as well as all the other insurance companies, will not be able to provide you options.
It's just whatever the, they call it the 2014 ACA compliant policy is what says on my thing here.
And I was just, you know, I was really upset, so I called McConnell's office, and of course, I could never get through to his office, so I called, called an A, because I work in a nonprofit organization here in Kentucky that does what you do on a much smaller scale, you know, trying to get people the word out about, you know, this kind of, you know, conservative ideas and anything.
I think they know.
I think people are encountering this every day.
The president was wrong when he said that you get to keep your policy and your doctor and that your premium was going to go down $2,500.
You're one of millions finding this out.
And others have no clue yet, but they are going to encounter this at some point.
But then they're going to get sugar.
They're going to get subsidized.
You aren't going to get subsidized.
But a lot of people are going to have that paid for or part of it paid for.
And they're going to love it.
It's Santa Claus passing out health care.
So you just heard it.
Her premium is $174 going to $468.
Welcome to Obamacare mandates.
But Cindy, look on the bright side.
You're not going to be able to get coverage for your sex change operation.
Well, no, she didn't say she wanted that, but I mean, it's there now.
It's one of the benefits.
If she wants to do it, it's covered.
So that tripling of her premium, there is value there if she wants to have a sex change, like an addedictomy, would be what that is called.
Cindy in Louisville, thank you for the call.
I appreciate it.
What was I going to?
There was something I was going to point that I was going to make about this.
Oh, well, it'll come to me.
It always does.
No, I don't think either Bush has been invited to this thing.
You mean the Martin Luther King thing?
There's no Republicans there.
We went to the list yesterday.
There's no conservative Republicans are scheduled to speak at this thing.
He's been hijacked, Snerdley.
This isn't about what Dr. King stood for.
Oh, I know what it was.
Don'tfundit.com is the website.
And don't forget, there's no apostrophe in it.
Don't fund it.
And don'tfundit.com is an alias for the real website, which is don'tfundObamacare.com.
That's what Senator Cruz was talking about.
That's what I wanted to remind people of when she mentioned Senator Cruz in her call.
The noted thriller author Brad Thor just tweeted that this is not a rally.
It's a wake.
It's the biggest collection of people who are, I forget exactly what they said here, but they're the opposite of what Dr. King stood for.
It's a wake.
It's like the Wellstone Memorial in a way.
Sherry in Tampa, Florida, your next EIB network.
Hi.
Hello.
Hi, Rush.
Hey.
Hey.
Well, I have an eighth grade problem.
My son came home last night and he said that they were talking about global warming.
Uh-oh.
And yeah.
And he said, well, that's not really true.
And the teacher said, well, how do you know?
He said, well, my parents said so.
And he said, your parents don't know what they're talking about.
And we teach our kids to listen to their teachers and then they do know what they're talking about.
And he says, I said, well, son, you listen to Rush.
You love Rush.
He always talks about it.
And he said, Rush doesn't know what he's talking about either.
So I don't really know how to combat that at all.
I don't know what to tell him.
Well, yes, you do.
What they're talking about.
I know you're like my parents.
You want your kid to respect his teachers.
I understand that.
But you need to take him aside.
And without talking about the teachers, and if you don't want him to disrespect them without putting them down, just tell him the truth about global warming.
The teachers don't know.
You can't.
I don't.
I told him they were trying to politicize it.
No, don't do that.
Well, can you?
He didn't understand.
Yeah, he didn't understand.
Just tell him on this.
The teachers are trying, but that they're wrong.
But they're trying to do what's right, but they're wrong.
I know you want to hold on to that respect for the teachers thing.
My parents did, too.
Public school.
But don't let them prevail on this.
This is fundamental.
Remember now, this is not global warming these people are teaching your kid.
This is big government statism.
Disguises global warming.
Tell him that.
Tell him what the global warming thing really is.
It's not about global warming.
Make him understand that.
Make it a project.
You can do it.
I have every confidence that you can do it.
So somebody sends an do you have your location settings turned on?
Yes, I've got my location settings.
It's a sad thing.
Obama, MSNBC said he was going to speak at 2.45, but he just didn't make it, folks.
Not going to speak until after I finished speaking.
We'll see you tomorrow.
Export Selection
