Welcome to today's edition of the Rush 24-7 podcast.
Now this was really kind of, I don't know, it was funny and it was a little cute, a little heartwarming at the same time.
I'm in here busily prepping today's excursion into Broadcast Texas as Snerdley walks in with a pot of coffee.
He walks in with a pot of coffee and he says, boy, I bet you're not feeling too good today.
I said, what?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
The Apple news.
He says, I know you love Apple.
We all love Apple, but boy, financial result, really, really, really bad quarter.
I mean, they're in trouble.
Gee, what happens if they stop making iPhones?
What in the world are you talking about?
He said, the quarterly earnings report.
I said, what do you mean quarterly earnings?
They had an up quarter year over year.
They were up.
He said, well, the media, I said, ah, I know what you're talking about.
What happened?
Apple announced their quarterly earnings yesterday in a conference call of journalists and so forth, which I'll tell you something.
And what happened was they didn't meet Wall Street expectations of their performance.
Apple's like every other company.
They issue guidance for investors, what they think their next quarter is going to be, and they always undershoot it.
They always have low expectations so they can show blowouts.
Then Wall Street, like every other company, has their own ideas of what a company is going to do based on what their experts think.
And they had these expectations for Apple of $10 a share and $40 billion of profit.
So Apple comes in with $35 billion of profit and $9 a share.
They were up year over year.
They had a record number of iPads sold, $17 million.
They sold, what was it, 26 million iPhones sold, and there's going to be a new one in two months.
And everybody knows there's going to be a new one in two months.
Well, let's see.
Yeah, they're going to announce it September.
And so rumors are holding down sales.
I think the problem with Apple is they've blown the doors out for so long that everybody's expectations are way up here.
When they have a blowout, but not up to their standards, people start getting concerned.
But that's the problem.
It's like this program.
The expectations of this program, everybody, that's why meeting and surpassing all audience expectations every day.
That's no mean feat.
When the expectations are way up there, it doesn't take much below way up there to have people think, uh-oh.
But I thought it was cute.
Snerdly concerned about me and what and what I would, what my frame of mind was going to be.
It's the first, no, it's not the first time in their history.
It's the first time in recent times that they haven't met Wall Street expectations.
It's okay.
So they dropped 30 bucks a share in after hours trading.
Way do you see their fourth quarter?
They're going to have stuff, new mini iPad, new phone, new computer.
They're going to blow it out in the fourth quarter.
And all this isn't going to be a memory.
This isn't bad anyway.
Anyway, folks, happy to have you here.
I just wanted to share with you a snerdly concern for me because he knows how much I love Apple and rely on their stuff.
Rely, like, love, all the same.
800-282-2882 if you want to be on the program email address lrushbow at eibnet.com.
This is not what's supposed to happen.
It's an AP story out of Denver.
Firearms sales are surging.
What?
Yes, I've heard about the NBC poll.
In a couple of minutes, it's right here.
I'm going to get to it in just a second.
All in due to three-hour program.
Of course, I've heard about it.
It's a joke.
They sample 11% more Democrats than Republicans.
And even at that, they can only get Obama a six-point lead.
Yesterday we were talking about the Reuters was the only poll with Obama up six.
We were talking about what a joke it was.
My question is, what's the Wall Street Journal doing partnering with this bunch?
Everybody knows that NBC is in the tank for Obama and so forth.
And the NBC Wall Street Journal poll, this is not doing the Wall Street Journal any good credibility-wise.
They had to have an 11-point spread in Democrats versus Republicans in their sample in order to get Obama a six-point lead.
There's no way that that's going to reflect the turnout.
There aren't going to be 11% more Democrats voting than Republicans in November.
Again, I can't get to this in just a second.
First, this wasn't supposed to happen.
Firearms sales are surging in the wake of the Colorado movie theater massacre as buyers express fears that anti-gun politicians may use the shootings to seek new restrictions on owning weapons.
In Colorado, gun sales jumped in the three days that followed.
The state approved background checks for 2,887 people who wanted to buy a gun, 25% more in the average Friday to Sunday period in 2012 and 43% more than in the same interval the week before.
This is not supposed to happen.
The media and the rest of the Democrat Party are supposed to be able to use tragedies like the Aurora shooting to discourage people from owning guns.
And furthermore, they're supposed to be able to use tragedies like the Aurora shooting to get people to join them in the media, the Democrat Party, for more gun control.
But instead, the event itself is having the opposite effect.
The AP is appalled.
You can hear the fury when you read the copy in the story.
This is not supposed to happen.
Dick Rutan, the owner of Gunner's Den in suburban Arveda, Colorado, said requests for concealed weapon training certification are off the hook.
What they're saying is they want to have a chance.
They want to have the ability to protect themselves.
You know, Obama, Obama the other day said, yeah, my daughters, they go to movies.
What if they'd been in that theater?
Well, let me answer that.
If Obama's daughters had been in the theater, there would have been Secret Service agents in there.
At the first sign this guy pulled a weapon, he'd have been dropped by the Secret Service, and the results would have been quite different.
Had there been anybody in that, and I'm not advocating that people take weapons.
I'm just saying, had there been anybody in that theater with a gun, it'd have been able to stop this guy on this rampage.
And then so if Obama's daughters have been in there, there'd have been Secret Service agents in there, and this guy starts lighting the place up, the Secret Service agents take him out.
That's what would happen.
And that is why there is increased sales of guns.
It's like the famous rapper Ice T said yesterday on this program.
It's the last defense against tyranny.
The only reason you have guns is to protect yourself against the police, he said.
He did.
The well-known rapper Ice-T.
AP says that firearm sales are surging because buyers fear anti-gun politicians may use the shootings to seek new restrictions on owning weapons.
That's a very reasonable fear.
But I suspect a bigger factor is that people see things like this latest massacre and realize they can't count on the police to protect them from the lunatics and the criminals anymore.
Nobody can do anything until after the crime has occurred.
But the AP did find the gun guy, Dick Rutan, saying that people want the ability to protect themselves and their families if they're in a situation like this.
Imagine wanting to be able to defend yourself and your family from lunatics and criminals.
I'm sure the AP sees that as silly and paranoid.
But still they do.
You know, yesterday, grab audio sombre number two.
Yesterday, day before.
Talk to you about Chris Saliz's column, Washington Post, which he said, and also Thomas B. Edsall in the New York Times.
Some of the Obama strategery here where it comes to Romney voters.
The first stage was write off the votes of white working-class Americans.
The Obama campaign in November of last year just announced it.
We know they're not going to vote for us.
We're not going to campaign for their votes.
We're not going to.
And his next stage, which was announced this week, was, and we're going to try to suppress that vote.
And we're going to try to convince white working-class Americans that Romney hates them.
That Romney looks down his nose at them.
Now you get Angrier Mitchell.
Andrew Mitchell's accusing Romney of speaking in dog whistle language.
You know what that means?
Well, dog whistle, humans can't hear it.
But Romney is able to speak to certain human beings in dog whistle language, which means that some of Romney's voters are the equivalent of dogs.
And they're the only ones that can hear what he's saying.
And he's sending them racist-coded messages.
For example, when he talks about Obama saying, you didn't build it, somebody else made that happen.
When Romney, according to Angrier Mitchell, Romney says that, that's dog whistle language to the white working-class Americans.
It's Romney sending out racist code.
Tax cuts was code.
Yeah, Wrangel said that tax cuts was racist, was code for racism.
How does Andrea Mitchell know the code?
Well, she's a journalist.
They know these tricks.
They know all the tricks we Republicans try.
They know Andrea Mitchell, NBC News in Washington.
She knows all the secret stuff.
Secret handshake, yeah.
She knows the secret blood-sharing ceremonies and all.
She knows it all.
That's what being an investigative journalist is all about.
She and Brian Ross talk about this frequently.
Dog whistle lingo emanating from Romney as code.
Anyway, here's Saliza admitting all this.
He was on starting point on CNN this morning.
He's got this new book, The Gospel According to the Fix, which is the name of his column.
The host, Soledad O'Brien, said to Chris Delizza, voters are disenchanted.
Voters are unhappy.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Have you not seen the NBC poll?
Why, you ought to see the majority of Americans think Obama better than anybody deal with the economy, better than anybody deal with foreign policy.
I mean, you would not believe this poll.
Well, you shouldn't.
Solid O'Brien obviously hadn't seen it when she said voters are disenchanted.
They're unhappy.
And we see that in the polling.
At the same time, Chris, negative ads are successful, and that's why they keep running.
How much do they pay her for these unique, unavailable anywhere else, insightful questions?
Negative ads are successful, Chris, and that's why they keep running.
Here's what Soliza said.
Negative ads do tend to depress turnout broadly.
That said, in a presidential election where you have the Republican base incredibly energized to vote against Barack Obama, you have the Democratic base slightly less energized, but still very energized to vote for Barack Obama.
I just don't see people not turning up.
I think we're looking at an 04 electorate extremely close.
The path to Barack Obama to victory in this election is disqualify Mitt Romney because Barack Obama's positive message only can go so far because we know from all the polling we've seen out there basically says a majority of people don't approve of how Barack Obama is handling the economy.
We're talking about the economy every day.
It does not take a political genius to realize he probably comes up short.
Barack Obama's positive message only can go so far.
There isn't one when you boil it all down.
What's the positive?
Oh, wait, wait, wait, let me find it.
Let me find it.
See, let me find it.
Because Obama says it's working.
What number is it?
Grab Soundbite 14.
Folks, it's working.
Barack Obama said his plan is working.
It's Monday night in Oakland during a campaign speech.
Just like we've tried their plan, we've tried our plan and it worked.
That's the difference.
That's the choice in this election.
That's why I'm running for a second term.
The God reverb is back.
You notice that?
But he said, just like we've tried their plan, we tried our plan and it worked.
That's the difference.
That's the choice in this election.
That's why I'm running for a second term.
It's why precisely he should not be elected for a second term.
Now, the question, does he really believe this?
I want to play this again.
This sounds like somebody reading it off the prompter.
This doesn't sound like somebody who really believes it.
I put myself in his shoes.
If the economy on my watch is a disaster, and it's a disaster because my policies have made it such that somebody sends me out there and talk about how it's working.
I have too much conscience to be able to pull it off with any believability.
So you have to look at the context, the precious context.
If he says it's working and if he means it, then that means something dangerous.
Here, listen to it again.
Just like we've tried their plan, we've tried our plan, and it worked.
That's the difference.
That's the choice in this election.
That's why I'm running for a second term.
That is quite an admission.
I don't know how else to look at this.
He is admitting that this has been the plan all along and that everything's going right.
Everything's going according to plan.
So I guess we have another see I told you so moment here because I've said all along it was always his plan to destroy the economy and he just admitted it.
He just admitted, hey, his plan worked for all intents and purposes.
The only alternative is that he's just saying it because he's relying on the fact that his audience is such a bunch of idiots that they won't know.
So I just go out and lie.
So we got two eyes.
He just goes out and lies and rolls the dice that people will swallow it.
Or he goes out and tells the truth.
It's working.
Our plan worked.
More of you on food stamps than ever before.
More than you don't have jobs than ever before.
18.2 million of you don't have jobs.
More of your homes are underwater than ever before.
And more of you are going to be in a whole big mess because of healthcare.
Yep, it's working.
Speaking of health, I have some of the most conflicting CBO news on Obamacare.
I'll run through it all in due course.
Right now, I have to take a brief timeout.
We'll do that and come back and resume right after this.
Yes, my friends, having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have Rush Limbaugh behind a golden EIB microphone here at the Limbaugh Institute.
Our daily tracking poll, Rasmussen daily tracking poll, has Romney up over Obama 47 to 44%.
And yet, here we have the NBC Wall Street Journal poll.
They oversample Democrats by 11 percentage points.
That gets Obama a six-point lead.
But even with that, if I'm reading this right, the NBC Wall Street Journal poll, Obama still can't get over 50%.
Wait, six points?
It's nine points.
What am I talking about?
I'm going to be confused here.
NBC Wall Street Journal released their latest poll.
They find Obama leading Romney 406 points.
That's why.
49, 43.
And the sample is Democrat plus 11 at 46% of the sample.
Republicans are 35%.
We haven't seen 35% Republican turnout in a presidential race since the Watergate era.
This poll, they're sampling what they think the turnout's going to be on Election Day.
46% of the turnout is going to be Democrat, 35% Republican.
In 2008, the electorate identified as Democrat plus 7.
And it's going to be this is, it's a joke.
The poll is an absolute joke.
And it's obvious they're putting it out so that they can use it to shape public opinion because it clearly does not reflect it.
Not even close.
Welcome back, folks.
Great to have you here, Rush Limbaugh.
Talent on lawn from God.
And we will be getting to your phone calls in this hour, maybe.
Snirdly, with his mouth wide open in agaped disbelief.
And it may happen.
The NBC Wall Street Journal poll oversampled Democrats by 11% over Republicans.
46% Democrat, 35% Republican.
And the way of registered voters.
Now, they do this.
They claim that they try to poll the breakout that'll be on Election Day to reflect turnout.
Now, does anybody believe that Democrats are going to turn out 11% more than Republicans in this election?
And even doing that, even doing that, they can't get Obama to 50% in this poll.
It's still 49-43 Romney.
The NBC poll also oversampled women by 4%.
Now, I've got the whole breakdown here.
Really, all you need to know is 46% Democrat, 46% of their sample was Democrat, 35% Republican.
Again, it's a poll of registered voters, not likely voters, and it's meant to encourage Obama to continue with his negative ads against Romney.
This is NBC trying to help Obama.
This is NBC telling Obama, stick with what you're doing.
Now, there's a story up in the Weekly Standard that Obama is spending more than $2.5 million a month in polling.
What are they polling?
One theory is when you rely on polling, when you live and die on the basis of polling, if polls show you behind, you keep polling.
You keep polling.
Hopefully, you get to a poll that shows you ahead.
You don't want to see polls that show you behind.
Then you start polling everything.
What to wear for breakfast, what to wear on vacation, where to go on vacation, what to put on a teleprompter, what to say here, what to say there.
It becomes a, I don't know, self-fulfilling prophecy of doom.
And it's what they're engaged in right now.
So NBC is coming to the rescue.
And what they're doing is a combination of things.
They're trying to reflect public opinion.
Remember Thomas B. Edsall in his story in the New York Times yesterday that the whole point of a portion of Obama's campaign is to suppress Romney voters, depress, dispirit Romney voters in any way possible, so as to make them think there's no point in voting.
It's over.
Country loves Obama.
That's what this poll is.
This poll is supposed to dispirit you.
It's supposed to make you, oh my God, even with all this, Obama's still ahead.
Oh, there's nothing we can do.
Heck with it.
That's the reaction they want you to have.
They want you to get depressed.
They want you to give up.
They want you to think it's hopeless.
They want you to think there's nothing that can be done.
Obama could wreak even more damage and it wouldn't matter.
The second aspect of this is to send a message to Obama to keep it up.
They want Obama to keep up with his negative ads against Romney.
All the other polls say that those ads aren't working.
This one says that they are.
They want Obama to believe theirs.
Remember, it was just yesterday that we cited numerous polls all pointing out the fact that the attack ads against Bain are not working.
Now, lo and behold, here one comes that is working like magic.
The NBC poll says half of registered voters feel less optimistic about the direction of the economy, which is a sharp drop in optimism from recent months.
Yet we are supposed to believe that Obama has surged ahead of Romney when they even tell us half of registered voters feel less optimistic about the direction of the economy, and yet more and more of them vote Obama.
I'm telling you, it's a disconnect.
It doesn't make any sense.
The poll also claims the following.
Quote, half say Obama has the background and set of values they identify with, while only 42% say that of Romney.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, that's just ridiculous.
It's ludicrous.
How many people come from a background like Obama's?
Half say Obama has the background, set of values they identify with.
Yeah, where's the hard scrabble life?
Where's the growing up in the Midwest?
Where's the numerous jobs as a boy where the hard scrabble life the parents have?
There's no life story that Obama has that has much in common with anybody in this country.
Obama had a communist, bigamist, absentee father from Kenya.
How many people America can lay claim to that?
He was raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.
He never set foot in the U.S. mainland until he was in college and went to Howard Johnson's.
He was a student of the radical left.
His mentors were communists like Frank Marshall Davis and Saul Dolinsky and Jeremiah Wright.
What kind of pap is this that trying to tell us that half say Obama has the background and set of values they identify with?
You know what's happening here.
It's like I told Snerdley yesterday, the people that voted for Obama for policy reasons will not vote for him again in 2012.
You realize how many people voted for this guy for reasons that have nothing to do with policy?
They voted, well, maybe remotely related to policy.
People voted for Obama for the historical aspect.
They voted for Obama because they wanted to be able to tell everybody how enlightened they are, how they're not racist, and how cutting-edge they are.
They wanted to be able to say, you know, this is the end of racism in America.
It's the end of strife.
Obama was going to make the world, all of these nebulous things, unsubstantive things that didn't matter and never had a prayer of happening anyway.
Well, the bloom's off that rose.
All of those reasons are not going to survive.
You've been there, done that.
There's no reason to vote for history twice.
You already did that.
So the only people are going to vote for Obama again are those who believe in his policies.
And that's where it all comes down, folks.
Have we reached the point where over half the country wants to sit around and take?
That's the question.
And I don't think we're anywhere near there.
I don't, I don't think we're anywhere.
Well, we may be close, but we're not that close that we've lost the country yet.
But there are just so many things in this poll that are unbelievable.
Half of registered voters feel less optimistic about the direction of the economy.
It's a sharp drop in optimism from recent months, and yet they can't wait to re-elect Obama.
It's a disconnect.
Half say Obama has the background and set of values they identify with.
That cannot be true.
Nothing against Obama's background or set of values here for that purpose.
It's just it can't be true.
Most people do not have Obama's childhood.
Most people don't in any way.
Most people don't have a brother living in a six-by-three-foot hut that they don't do anything for.
Most people have not been raised by communist mentors.
Most people have not gone to a church with a pastor like Reverend Wright.
Most, certainly, most.
But we are nevertheless being told that we are supposed to believe that people identify with Obama's background and set of values and that Romney's whitebread upbringing is the one that's bizarre.
We are being told that Romney is the freak.
Romney is the freak of nature.
Romney is the one that's unnatural.
Romney, the one that's an oddball weirdo.
Romney and his background.
That ain't what this country's all about.
That's not what this country's about anymore.
Obama claims he's running a grassroots campaign, so why all the polling anyway?
I just, I'm stunned by this.
Half say Obama has the background and set of values they identify with.
Okay, so where are we?
We have a bogus poll structured bogusly, designed to dispirit and depress you, while at the same time inspiring and encouraging Obama.
But there is an upside.
There is a bright side.
And it is this.
I'm perfectly fine with these yokels believing their own pep.
If the media wants to run around and think all this is true, let them.
If they want to invest totally in this, if this makes them feel better, if they want to go into this campaign thinking it's a lock, that there's nothing Romney can do, fine.
I love people living illusions when it's my opposition.
I love my enemies, my opponents deluding themselves.
And that potentially is what is happening.
NBC just tweeted, by the way, NBC Wall Street Journal poll, negative campaign takes toll on candidates Obama up six points.
Negative campaign takes toll on candidates Obama up six.
The daily tracking in Rasmussen Romney is up three.
So that's that, folks.
It's a pretty transparent and pathetic attempt to go against the tide.
Let's take a brief timeout.
I am going to take some calls when we come back.
Because I'll save to the top of the segment, or the first segment, next hour, top of the next hour.
Let me count them here.
One, two, three, four.
Is there another one?
Four stories on the latest CBO scoring of Obamacare after the Supreme Court decision.
Don't go away.
We'll do that top next hour.
Your phone calls are coming next, right after this.
Speaking of delusions, one more passage from the NBC Wall Street Journal poll saying claim that Obama also leads by double digits on voters who think he'd be the better commander-in-chief and protector of the middle class and who is knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency.
Leads by double digits in voters who think that he would be the better commander-in-chief, protector of the middle class.
It's laughable.
Better be laughable.
This is absurd.
Now, see, Obama, since he's been in the White House, we've had 41 straight months of unemployment above 8%.
And we got a poll that tells us that he leads by double digits of people who think he's the right guy for the right time in virtually every aspect of the presidency.
While he's out there saying we tried our plan and it worked, everybody in this thing is delusional, including Obama.
Here's Tom in Spring, Texas as we start on the phones.
Tom, thanks for the call.
Great to have you here.
Hi.
Good morning, sir.
It's an honor and a privilege to talk with you today.
Appreciate that very much.
I believe that these polls that come out day after day, week after week, Obama's ahead of Romney, Obama's likability rating up, Obama's job approval numbers up, Obama this, Obama that, are going to backfire come November 6th.
All these polls do is scaring the heck out of millions and millions of people across this great country that we live in.
And the poll that's going to matter is going to be on November 6th, 2012.
So you Energize Electric comes out in force to change the direction of this great country.
So you believe that the reporting of these polls is simply going to fire up the anti-Obama vote, and it's going to show up in droves.
Yes, sir, I do.
Well, that's not what they're counting on.
You're probably right.
What they're counting on that polls like this is going to depress people like you.
What they want, when you look at the poll, they want you to go, oh, damn it, hell.
None of we can do.
This is futile.
This guy's ruining the country, and half the people or more think he's odd.
Hell with it.
And Mabel, let's pack up and let's look at Singapore.
That's what they're hoping you do.
They're trying to suppress your vote.
They're trying to dispirit you.
They're trying to really dial back your enthusiasm with these polls.
While at the same time, trying to ratchet Obama's encouragement up.
They're trying to enthuse him.
Keep doing what he's doing.
Tom, I appreciate it.
Bruce in Naples, Florida.
You're next in the program.
Hello.
Hey, Rush, how you doing?
Good.
Real quick, my thinking is that they put out these bogus polls like this to create the perception that Obama's close, even though we know he's not.
But they want to create that.
That way there'll be less of an uproar when they steal this election.
I don't think they're going to be able to steal the election.
They're going to try.
And I know they're going to have all kinds of dead people voting.
I'm going to tell you my attitude about stealing the election, if that's tantamount to saying there's nothing we can do.
And I just, I don't accept that.
If they can steal the election and win it every time, then we would never win any.
And it simply isn't the case.
Republicans win a lot of elections.
In fact, Obama really hasn't won one that mattered since his own in 2008.
If they were ever going to be able to steal an election, they should have been able to do it in Wisconsin.
They didn't come close.
Don't look, I understand voter fraud's a big thing, and I understand that the Democrats need it.
But they're going to be so far by.
There's not enough fraud they're going to be able to commit and get away with.
But the whole idea, the whole notion of believing that they can just flip a switch, steal an election.
If that's the case, then there's no sense in even trying, is what it says to me.
And you don't believe that.
I don't believe that.
And logic says that if they could steal elections, they would never lose them unless they lose some on purpose to cover up the fact that they're stealing elections, which is really tinfoil hatland, black helicopter tinfoil hat, that they lose certain elections just to hide the fact that they're stealing at will.
You know, if it's a real, real tight election like Kennedy Nixon, yeah, the last moments can do what you need, but they're going to have to, the vote deficiency they have to overcome.
If the election were today, for example, there's not enough fraud that they get away with committing.
They're that far behind.
And don't doubt me that they know it right now.
You know, this voter fraud business, this notion they put out there, like this guy said they can steal the election.
If they make you think that they can steal the election, they've just suppressed your vote.
And that's another tactic here when they talk about stealing the election.
