Time Text
And there was an article written by a very fine writer for the New York Post about Hanukkah.
And I want to share it with you before we light the fourth candle.
And I'm just short parts of it.
The story of Hanukkah is about Jews who refused violently, unapologetically, and at great cost to stop being Jews.
In our generation, we're fighting the same battle.
The Hanukkah story is not one of peaceful coexistence.
Not about two states, but of a foreign empire that demanded Jews abandon Jewish law, Jewish practice, and Jewish identity, as of course, the Orthodox Muslim religion does on the command of Muhammad.
Assimilation was not optional under the rule of the Seljuzzi Empire.
It was compulsory.
The miracle was not the oil.
It was Jewish survival through defiance.
I may add against the odds.
Last week, the hostages and missing families forum released chilling footage of six of their abducted loved ones being forced to celebrate Hanukkah in Hamas tunnels in 2023, just a few months before they were executed.
Neither Hamas nor the gunmen in Sydney murdered Jews because we failed to explain ourselves properly.
Anti-Semites tonight target Jews because we don't sufficiently emphasize that Hanukkah is about peace and light.
No Jews are attacked because we are Jews.
No, Jews are attacked because we are Jews, distinct, persistent, and unwilling to disappear.
It's up to us to make sure no one will forget that.
For too long, American Jews have tried to turn Hanukkah into a Jewish version of Christmas, not just culturally, but theologically.
As a result, we've hollowed out the holidays, meaning at the very moment that we need it most.
The Maccabees did not win through goodwill, but through strength, resolve, and an unyielding commitment to Jewish law and life.
Sounds a little like Benjamin Netanyahu, doesn't it?
The temple was rededicated not because the Jews were charming, but because they prevailed against those who wanted to slaughter them, like the people in Palestine are brought up to promise to do from the time they can remember.
Every night we light menorah candles, we send a clear message.
We're still here.
We will not convert.
We will not disappear.
Hanukkah should not be about making the world like us.
It must be about Jews liking ourselves enough to remain who we are.
Thank you, Bethany.
This is brilliant.
And it is a good piece of theology, by the way, from someone who studied theology and loves it.
So tonight we're going to light the candles again.
This time we have four candles and we'll light them in the proper order.
And just so I can do it correctly, I'll do the blessing while I'm standing here so I can read it properly.
I didn't get many complaints though last night.
The first night I did.
The first blessing is the blessing over the Hanukkah candles, which we're going to light in a moment.
And I'll give you the English verse.
Praised are you, God, Spirit of the universe, who makes us holy through our commandments and commands us to light the Hanukkah candles.
Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu mel halam, Asha Kiddushanu, Bet Shizovu, Nitzvivanu, Le'hadik Ne'er Shel Hanukkah.
So let's do the...
This is where we should actually properly do the lighting.
We have many things here to get out of the way.
Maybe we should get having trouble.
There it is.
I used to be an altar boy, so I should be good at doing candles, right?
Right.
You got to get them to stand.
You got to get the wick to stand up.
See, beforehand, from now on, let's stick the wick up.
I've never seen candles that burn so fast.
Burn the wax and then put that in.
Okay?
Yes, sir.
The last blessing is now this blessing is for Hanukkah.
Baruch Ata Adonai, Eloeno Mela Olam.
Shihash Nasim Lavotenu Bayamin Haheim Bizaman Heza.
Praised are you, God, spirit of the universe, who performed miracles for our ancestors in their day at this season.
And if we take the words of Bethany correctly, the miracle that she is saying should be the miracle that we celebrate, is the miracle of their victory against all odds over the Seleucid Greeks, who had them outnumbered about 10 to 1.
The miracle that Trudis Maccabeus, who was delivered, We have to go back to the ancient texts.
That text was probably written in Hebrew, possibly Aramaic.
Translated into Greek and then translated into the Latin Vulgate Bible, but it isn't quite as official as the other books.
There are a whole bunch of them like that.
Don't ask me to go any further than that.
I'll find out more as we move along.
Today, of course, was a very sad day, as we welcome back to the United States Of America the bodies of two of our National Guard sergeants, who lost their lives to an Islamic terrorist, and an interpreter who lost his life to an Islamic terrorist,
who killed him in the name of Muhammad in order to spread the Islamic caliphate that Muhammad enjoined them to do.
That's the war that we're fighting.
And until and unless we recognize that, we're going to lose it.
Now, there are the two wonderful young men, Nate Howard and Edgar Brian Torres Tovar.
And we don't have a picture of Ayur Mansour Saq, but we may.
He was an interpreter, and he had been an interpreter for many years, and he went back.
He went back for service.
We don't have that many in Syria right now, and they have been fairly safe.
But this looked to be an ISIS attack, and probably on us because we're supporting the Jalani government.
And also, they believe, and I guess exactly how much is a question of dispute, but I guess they believe we played a role in getting rid of Assad.
Of course, since Assad kills so many of us, it would be hard to not understand why we would want to get rid of a lot of them.
But today, I had thought of playing in comparison to it the ceremony when the people that Biden had killed in Afghanistan came back, and the families just wanted to get together with him to tell him that they blamed the murders on him, which he should have heard.
Maybe he would have woke up if he heard it.
But instead, he looked at his watch.
He got there late.
He looked at his watch and he left without talking to anyone.
Needless to say, President Trump, who loves America and loves the soldiers, did not do that.
He treated them with the honor and respect which he realizes they are entitled.
Can we show it at Joint Base at Andrews?
Well, now, why don't we see if we can see the ceremony?
And when the caskets are taken with great dignity and with the honor and dignity they deserve.
You know, watching this as it does at every funeral that I go to, mostly for law enforcement officials and first responders, but sometimes for soldiers, I think that this is why we have freedom because a few are willing to sacrifice everything.
It's always been that way, hasn't it?
Since the beginning of our republic.
And despite the fact that there are great disappointments with this generation, which may be the way it's always been, I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I know I feel that way sometimes because I'm not of this generation, and many of the things that happen startled me, but my parents were startled by many of the things that happened in mine and on and on and on and on.
And when it was necessary, we stepped up.
I'll never forget reading Tom Brocaw's book about maybe a year, six months before September 11, and the greatest generation.
And when you finish that book, and someone, I think I've asked Tom this, and he said yes, but I don't want to speak for him.
But when you read that book, you do come away with the question: could we do this?
Could we do what our parents and grandparents did, challenged by at that time, the most fierce and greatest army probably in the history of the world, the Nazi army, which run over all over, had run all over Europe, taken it all and was threatening to take Russia as well.
Well, I didn't have time to think when I rushed down there.
I saw the buildings come down.
I saw the people jumping from the top.
I saw my firefighters go in.
I saw them later burned.
And I saw Father Judge gone and I saw him carried away.
And I identified bodies and then at heroes that they are.
That's what you have to do.
God bless each one of them.
God bless their brothers and sisters who are in harm's way now and will be in the future.
Luce, I've had this problem.
You know, I've faced this many, many times as a United States attorney, assistant United States attorney, and most particularly as mayor.
I have stayed up at nights pestering the police department to catch people.
I offered my own probably, well, I shouldn't say that.
Look, it was a difference when I was the mayor.
When I was the mayor of New York, I was probably the single most accomplished prosecutor in the United States of America.
That is a little different.
I mean, so we say the government has gotten great value out of the fact that Donald Trump was a great businessman.
Well, the city got a great value out of the fact that I was a great investigator and had spent my life fighting crime.
So I knew what to do, and I knew how to help, and I knew how to be a value-added.
And I also butted in a lot and didn't feel any hesitation because very often I knew how to do it better.
Now, this, what you're looking at now is a complication and a good one that was introduced today.
Remember, we've been seeing a picture of this man walking back and forth.
Seems to be, the man that we were seeing seemed to be a younger man than that, maybe even a little smaller.
And if I'm not mistaken, although I don't think every picture of this guy is as fortunate as that, I think his face is bare.
So now this is a second man who was seen, who was picked up walking around the same area several hours earlier.
We don't know who he is.
They're trying to identify him.
I would say the chances of getting a really good depiction of his face are excellent.
And you can see it's dark on our image, but with what's available to the FBI, they should be able to lighten that face quite a bit.
And then an artist should be able to recreate it in several different forms so that we'll get really, really close in terms of being able to identify him.
I also believe, and I hope they're doing it, although it's harder to do, that's also true with the original picture.
So now we have two persons of interest, suspects, what shall we call them?
This one, this one was, I guess they got this yesterday.
They put it out.
They put it out to late last night.
They say the FBI on Tuesday released a video that captured the Portly person of interest.
He cut across Cook, Manning, George, and Hope Streets, all near the eastern side of Brown University, according to the timeline.
The first clips were time stamped at 2 p.m.
That would be two hours before the shooting.
So he was walking in that area two hours before the shooting.
Around 2:10, he paused in front of a home and crossed his arms behind his back as he turned away from an approaching car.
And gunfire rang out on the campus at about 4:02, 4:03 p.m.
So, the last sighting of him before the gunfire, right now at least, they may pick up other shots of him, but the last shot of him was in front of a home, his arms crossed behind his back as he turned away from an approaching car.
And as I said, when you look at those shots, we got a really good chance of getting a good picture of him.
And I don't see why they don't put it out so everybody in America can see what he looks like.
Look, law enforcement is a game of luck, in the sense that you put everything out and then you make luck happen.
I'll explain that sometime.
I used to lecture on this, so I have a great comparison to how what I mean by that.
Now, a traffic camera captured the person of interest walking briskly past cars on the Brown University campus mere minutes after the shooting was first reported.
So, the shooting was at 4:03.
Now, catch this: according to their timeline, this guy was the guy who did the shooting, we believe, was caught on a camera, if it's him, at 4.06.
So, he was in and out of, he was in and out of there in three minutes, which indicates that he had a target, as we thought from the beginning.
And we think tragically, Ella Cook is the target, but it could also have been Yukama Aziz Umor Khazov.
More likely, Ella Cook, but again, this is a supposition, a hypothesis.
It's a logical one, it may turn out to be wrong, but it also would explain the brevity, the quickness.
He shoots the two, then he takes a lot of other shots.
The way the confused descriptions that I read seem to indicate they seem to think he wasn't all that interested in the other shots.
They seem to think that he was there to shoot her or possibly him, but more likely her.
And that's what the teaching assistant who was conducting the class thought.
In fact, he is very, very sad because shortly before the murderer came in, Ella and a girlfriend looked at each other, and the girlfriend made a signal to her to come into the back, to come to the back of the room.
And she didn't do it.
And the teaching assistant feels maybe if she did, she would have lived.
But if in fact he was there to get her, that would just have actually put her closer to him.
He would have gotten her faster.
Maybe the other young man wouldn't have died, but maybe some other young man or some next door would have.
Now, this, the guy, the guy, now do we have the pictures of the guy that we see later?
I believe so.
But the ones that we've seen, we've looked at these back and forth so often.
They're well, that was the original ones put out.
Now, go back for a second, Ted.
I know this is annoying, but just go back for a second.
I used to drive my assistants crazy doing that.
Now, notice this guy's a big guy, but this guy's not like with a pot belly fat, right?
Now, let's go to the one, let's go to the guy that was put out on the wanted poster.
That guy's got a pot belly.
See, in the middle, he looks like he's pregnant.
Those are two different guys, and they appear to be of different stature.
That other guy walks a lot more briskly, and he also seems smaller.
It seems like they put him at about 5'8 when they put out the thing on him.
I think they said 5'8.
And that seems about right.
And that you, you know, you can do great work with you.
See his hands?
You see where his hands are coming down toward his jacket?
That's one of the ways you'll eventually identify him.
That doesn't change, Sweetheart.
If he chops his arm off, I mean, one of the first things they're going to do is measure that.
This guy has got shorter arms than that.
We got a problem.
But you can measure that pretty damn carefully.
You can measure the circumference of the head also.
I also think that the and this is not as easy as with the first guy.
And it would not be anywhere near as accurate.
That first guy, we could be 90% on with his face, a painting of his face.
Second guy, about 70%.
And you think that they're not sophisticated enough to employ evasive.
Well, because what if to change your gate, you put the rock in the shoe?
I'm just making a recommendation of what they should do.
Now, I do think if you're going to do that, there's no use keeping it to yourself.
The whole idea is to put it out and have it all around the world.
So somebody sees it and says, there's the guy.
The way they caught Charlie Kirk's guy, right?
Right.
And the way I caught him.
Boston, Boston, 20 people.
Boston bombing.
Was that a civil?
Yeah.
And the way I caught a serial killer.
And the way, my goodness, I mean, Luigi.
The way I caught an Islamic terrorist who killed a synagogue student.
We put out, we didn't even have a great picture of him.
We just had a great description of him.
And from that, we did, our geniuses did renditions of him.
And we got him.
It was about 4:30 in the afternoon, and we got him at 2:30 the next day.
He was trying to go get a getaway car in the part of Brooklyn where I was only mayor for a little while at this point, where we were setting records for stealing cars.
And I do think, I do think the guys who turned him in, I'm not sure what kind of shop they were running.
But that's the time you don't ask, you know?
Well, those are the people who witness crimes often, right?
Oh, it's like before I was mayor, they killed a nun up in East Harlem, which then was an Italian area.
And I think Jimmy Breslin wrote, the cops are not going to have trouble with this one.
The two guys' bodies were delivered in a garbage can in front of the church about a day later.
Saves paper.
war nuns were killed.
So the potbellied man was wearing a black hat, a medical mask, a light gray coat.
So now they've got two to look for.
There's a, I mean, all we can do with the information that we have, which is not a lot, we assume they have more.
I don't assume it.
I know they have more.
The only thing I am disappointed about is I really do think by now we should have better renditions of their face, even if it's a stab in the dark.
I mean, we're not expecting perfection.
We don't have, you know, but the second one, my goodness, that second one.
I mean, I think it can do the first, but that might be a little bit, that might be pushing a little too hard.
I would.
But that one, that one you should be able.
Now, it's really interesting.
You can tell the, I'm looking now at a picture in the New York Post of one of the two guys.
It doesn't identify which one.
It says a person of interest in the lethal shooting at Brown University.
So which one is this, Ted?
We'll do a little test.
Which person of interest is that?
That's the first.
That's the first one.
Now, is that mask, is that presumably like he could get away with the mask because it's cold or COVID or?
Well, he didn't have the mask on there.
Well, is this the same guy?
Yeah, I have a feeling.
This is the second guy, Ted.
Look at the potbelly.
Yeah.
So that's the suspect.
Sorry, we're going to call them suspect and person of interest.
The guy on the inset there, that's the suspect.
The other guy is a person of in proximity of the suspect.
Those are two different guys right there on that screen.
Oh, okay.
Well, what we could have, what we could have is the setup guy and the executioner.
That's the suspect.
They're treating this gentleman as a suspect.
Now, that guy may have stayed in the area.
And when we see, this is a complete, I mean, this would try to put the pieces together.
The first guy surveils the place, cases the joint, as they would say in a robbery, and makes sure everything's okay.
You can get in right.
Maybe, maybe he, we don't, we know we, last time we see him is two hours before the shooting, but he could have stayed.
He could have stayed somewhere and we just didn't see him.
And we may turn up a picture of him tomorrow.
So maybe he waits to put her in the building.
Then he goes and he has a car somewhere.
And the other guy comes.
The other guy does the deed, walks away, goes to the car, and they take off for Canada or wherever the hell they're going.
Let's see.
I think you can't put too much stock in the portliness of him because what if it's just a bunch of sweatshirt?
Because if he's wearing the mask and he wants to evade.
Good point.
I think we got to be careful that he's not.
Good point.
Could it be the same guy?
The upper body does.
It does seem like the first guy is taller, older, and bigger.
It does seem that way.
But, you know, again, a lot of deception could be involved here.
So, but you've got to go with what you see and then get surprised.
You always go with the most logical possibility.
Another thing you should realize is although we always think about how the terrorists were doing when Biden opened the door for four years.
Right.
Right.
Well, speaking of the White House, Mayor, I believe we have Kara Castranova.
Kara.
Hey, Mr. Mayor.
How are you?
I am good.
How are you?
I'm doing good.
Just looking forward, as I'm sure you are, to the president's address to the nation tonight.
We are looking forward to hearing what he has to say.
A lot of speculation.
I was wondering what you thought it was about.
I think it's going to, it's going to, it's going, it's going to be, it is, as usual with the president, going to be about a lot of things.
It's going to be about what he's accomplished, I'm sure, in his first roughly year in office.
And I think there'll be a heavy emphasis on the economy and the changes that he's made in the economy that are positive and the ones that he's made that will prove to be positive over the next year.
I think Scott Besson gave us a little bit of a sense of it on television on Sunday when he said, we're laying the groundwork.
You have to look at it as we are laying the groundwork for a great 2026.
Right.
And by the way, they're absolutely right.
I go back to when I was mayor.
I had a terrible, terrible economy.
I had 10.5% unemployment.
I had a deficit of a billion, and it took me a year and a half.
I mean, I got the tax reductions.
I got rid of the people.
I changed the regulations, but only I could see it.
And then you pray for it to start working.
And then when it started working, it was great.
It was brilliant.
I mean, it was terrific.
And same thing with Ronald Reagan.
So I think he's going to probably try to explain in not too much detail, but enough so people understand it, how he's laid the groundwork for it.
Well, I'm sure you've heard the speculation online that the president might be announcing some sort of war with Venezuela.
I'm leaning more towards what you're saying.
I do think he's going to talk about the economy, but there are some people online who are saying that he might talk about a possible war with Venezuela.
So that is what is circulating sort of on X right now.
I know that Tom Carlson went on Judge Napolitano's show and said that that's what he's hearing.
But what I'm hearing is that the president's expected to address the economy.
That's something that's important.
As you know, Mr. Mayor, to so many Americans, President Trump inherited Joe Biden's economy.
And like you mentioned, it does take a while for some of these policies to for people to see results.
The president's been in office a year.
Scott Besson said that in the second quarter of 2026, we'll really start seeing results from all the work that they have been doing this year to clean up Joe Biden's mess.
There are four talking points that are expected to be discussed tonight by the president.
This is from Just the News, John Solomon, who seems to always get the tips.
He said that the president will address housing affordability, about expanding housing supply through zoning reform, model building codes, and a homeowner's bill of rights to lower costs.
They will talk about health care costs as well, replacing Obamacare with market-based reforms, more competition, and consumer-driven options to reduce premiums.
The third point that is expected to hit tonight with the president is federal spending cuts.
The president wants to cut roughly 20% of discretionary spending to reduce waste, lower deficits, and ease inflationary pressure.
And number four, which is an interesting one, water affordability and supply.
This might be mentioned tonight.
This is what is leaking through Just the News that they will treat water as the next cost of living crisis, including a national strategy and a possible water czar to manage long-term supply.
So, all of these domestic issues, a water czar.
They're expecting that there might be a drought, Mr. Mayor.
There might be some water czars in the future.
They could use a water czar in California since they don't know how to fill up their fire hydrants.
They certainly can use a water czar, and the governor over there really knows how to misappropriate water, to say the least.
But that is something that if the president doesn't mention tonight, that is going to be a topic coming into 2026 because it's not an impending emergency right now.
But they're looking into the future saying that we could have some problems with water when it comes to the United States and the way that the system is now has to change.
So, a water czar might be necessary to prevent any drought here in the U.S.
This is news to me.
This is something I was looking into today.
I was very interested to read that.
And as you know, President Trump took some questions from the press today.
He was over at that beautiful ceremony that you played that footage from earlier, welcoming bodies of those fallen soldiers back from Syria.
So, the president spent the majority of his day there and did take questions from the press.
Here is the president talking about tonight's address to the nation.
This is what he's getting into Air Force One.
Well, I think the message this evening is we inherited a mess and we've done a great job and we continue to.
And our country is going to be stronger than ever before very soon.
So, simple message, I think, that the president had there, and that it is leading like that speeches about the economy.
But, of course, the rumors are running wild on X.
The president also spoke about the naval blockade on Venezuela.
Again, people thinking that maybe in 2026 there might be an actual war declared.
Here is the president talking about Venezuela earlier today.
It's the blockade.
Not going to let anybody going through that shouldn't be going through.
You remember they took all of our energy rights.
They took all of our oil from not that long ago.
And we want it back, but they took it.
They illegally took it.
Want it back.
He is so basic.
I mean, they took our energy rights and we want it back.
Of course, we want it back.
Some other president would be, well, well, you know, understand.
Gosh, he is so good.
The reality is, I have to say, Carol.
I have to believe it has to be the economy because it isn't that he reads polls, but he does listen to the American people.
I mean, there's a difference between reading polls and then changing your whole position because of the polls.
Then there is reading polls and being able to realize, well, this is more important now than something else.
So he's not going to change his position on anything.
He's just going to emphasize the thing that people are worried about.
And like all the things he's going to talk about are things he's campaigned on, lowering taxes, reducing regulations, trying to get interest rates down.
None of this is new, but he's going to try to explain to the American people.
And he's got great example.
He could go back to Kennedy.
He could go back to Reagan.
It takes a year to a year and a half for the changes to work in.
Like the big tax breaks don't come until next year.
That's when people will see the extra money.
So I think an explanation of that will help a lot.
And then just kind of reestablishing with the American people.
He did it before.
He can do it again.
I mean, under him, we had the best economy in 50 years.
There's no reason why, and we didn't have it right away.
It took about a year and a half.
There's no reason why he can't do it again.
In fact, he's probably going to do it better this time.
So I think that's what it'll be about.
I would doubt that he'd slip in a war with Venezuela because that would be like stepping on your message.
But who knows?
He doesn't play by traditional, he's never played by traditional rules, and he wants Maduro the hell out of there for good reasons.
And, you know, I think kicking Maduro out will help him, even with Putin, because it'll show it'll show the you know, show some spine.
So, let's see.
Let's see.
And last but not least, Mr. May, here's the president talking about that dignified transfer for those three Americans.
This is his comments earlier today.
That was a beautiful event for three great people, and they're now looking down.
Their parents and wives and all of the people that were there were, I mean, devastated, but great people.
Great people.
So, thank you very much for being there.
Did he spend a lot of time with them, Kara?
From what you could tell, he did.
He met with families of the soldiers.
He spent a large part of the day there today.
As you know, President Trump is very patriotic and very what happened.
They cut her feet.
Kara, did you say something they didn't like?
Kara never does that.
Kara is a very, very sophisticated, very sophisticated, dignified young woman.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
I was going to tell her, I was going to tell her, but we're going to have to take a break.
And then why don't we take a break?
And then I'm going to tell you a story about Ronald Reagan.
It's apropos of this.

And you don't want to make the who wants to repeat the mistake of a jackass Biden and not address what people are worried about or try to convince them it really isn't happening.
So is this coming from the Oval Office?
Is it going to make the address?
I think so.
Okay.
So what time is he coming in?
What time is he coming in?
Nine.
Several terrible executions of federal agents.
In fact, several different there was a federal agent who was killed in Colombia.
There was a A Bureau of Prisons officer who was killed by a lifer who had nothing better to do but to kill people.
There are maybe a couple of these.
And I had been to the families and we had done, the Justice Department had done services for them.
But the president was watching this.
And one day he called his friend, the Attorney General, and he said, I'd like you to organize a ceremony if the families would like to come in.
And the attorney general said, oh, we're having one.
We're having one.
And President, I don't know that he was annoyed, but Ronald Reagan would never express that, but how come he didn't invite me?
So of course we invited him.
First time I realized that the best thing to do when you're a president or a mayor is to go visit your facilities because they paint them.
They spent the next four days painting every place they thought he was going to walk.
The rest of the Justice Department looked like the parts that Ronald Reagan walked through look like, you know, Trump.
You watch him.
So we have the ceremony.
The attorney general's with him, of course.
And then he gives a very, very beautiful speech.
And the families are right there.
And he said, and he, and it's over.
And Jim Baker someone comes out to him, we have to go now.
President looks at him.
And President Reagan did not lose his temper.
President looked at him like he was out of his mind.
He said, I'm not going to meet with him.
Oh, we don't have time.
Reagan, you can see it in Trump.
They like people.
In fact, let's go one step further.
They love people.
That's why they're doing it.
So that's an important thing to see.
And I was very close to them all the time in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and with the at the national, the world headquarters of the LaBubasher movement.
And it was established by the vine.
I'm going to tell you about how he escaped the Holocaust, how he established this.
These people are beautiful people.
They have ambulances going around the city.
They have food going around.
I think I know him pretty well.
I think I have a pretty good idea of what he's going to say.
Then we're going to talk a little about China.
Good news, bad news.
Good news is that Germany and China are splitting.
It doesn't take away from the great job you're doing.
We love you.
But I'm going to explain the theory of how they handle that and how it was brilliant.
