Why Do Jews Vote Left?

	Gail in Los Angeles, California, why are so many American Jews Democrats?
	A Jewish friend once told me it was because, one, they were for the underdog and Israel isn't the underdog.
	Two, they are pro-abortion.
	Three, they don't really care about Israel.
	What do you think?
	Well, I could spend the entire hour on this question.
	So I'll have to be brief, but I do want to address it because it's extremely important, certainly to me as a Jew, as an American Jew specifically.
	I left the Democratic Party in the early 80s.
	I stopped voting Democrat.
	Well, I did vote for Jimmy Carter the first term.
	That was the last Democrat I voted.
	So I understand the almost primal affinity of American Jews to the Democratic Party.
	And that is most American Jews, the most means more than fifty percent.
	So please understand that doesn't mean all by any means.
	But most American Jews associate right wing with the inevitable downhill slide to Nazi or Nazism.
	That's right wing it's a Pavlovian response in most American Jews.
	Right wing leads to Hitler.
	By the way, even the question was Hitler right wing or left wing is a very by the way, it's not an illegitimate question.
	The left has brilliantly convinced everyone that Hitler and the Nazis were rightists.
	But in fact, a lot of the opposition to Hitler came from conservatives.
	Also, some came from communists.
	There's no question.
	I just want to note both.
	Both are true.
	But Hitler hated capitalism.
	And Nazism stood for National Socialism.
	Socialism.
	That's not exactly right-wing.
	Socialism is not a right-wing doctrine.
	Racism is not a right-wing doctrine.
	By the way, it's not a left-wing doctrine.
	It's sui generis.
	It's its own unique evil.
	Racism is neither right-wing nor left-wing.
	But the left has effectively identified racism with right-wing and Nazi with right-wing and And that has stuck.
	Stalin called Trotsky, the father of the Red Army, the father along with Lenin of Soviet communism, he called him a fascist.
	And it works, that's how it works.
	The left sort of rules our vocabulary.
	So American Jews seared by the Holocaust, even if they lost no relatives in it, believing that right wing leads to Nazism will just always vote anti-right, which is the in American terms, the Democratic Party.
	So that's one reason.
	Now, that's the biggest.
	For an American Jew, and I know this because I'm an American Jew, and I remember when I first voted Republican.
	This will sound bizarre to all of you, but I give you my word it is true.
	I felt that I was sitting.
	against the Jewish people and Judaism.
	That's how hard it was to vote Republican.
	But as I said then, and I was right, I did not leave the Democratic Party.
	The Democratic Party left me.
	And now, if it is not obvious that the Democratic Party has left American Jews, it will never be obvious.
	There's no excuse to vote Democrat by any decent person.
	You gave these choice that they're for the underdog.
	That's what they believe.
	But if you're for the underdog, you vote Republican because the Democrats are the party of the wealthy.
	But in any event, they were for the underdog and Israel isn't the underdog.
	Of course, Israel is the underdog.
	It's unbelievable.
	Israel is surrounded by hundreds of thousands There is no such hatred on the face of the earth.
	The Iranian regime on the doorstep of nuclear weapons announces its greatest goal is the eradication of Israel and its Jewish inhabitants.
	And the same with Hamas, the same with Hezbollah, and the same with ISIS, and the same with any of the other radical Islamic movements.
	But Israel is not the underdog.
	Israel is the size of New Jersey, surrounded by by Muslim countries who want to eradicate it in most cases.
	Israel is the underdog that has figured out how not to get destroyed.
	That's it.
	That's all it is.
	It's really David and Goliath.
	Who is the underdog?
	Goliath because he got killed by David?
	Is that how it works?
	The loser is by definition the underdog.
	They are pro-abortion.
	That's true.
	True, secular Jews are pro-abortion, most American Jews are secular.
	That's correct.
