Dennis Prager Show - Why Do Jews Vote Left? Aired: 2025-08-18 Duration: 06:48 [00:00:00] Gail in Los Angeles, California, why are so many American Jews Democrats? [00:00:05] A Jewish friend once told me it was because, one, they were for the underdog and Israel isn't the underdog. [00:00:13] Two, they are pro-abortion. [00:00:16] Three, they don't really care about Israel. [00:00:19] What do you think? [00:00:23] Well, I could spend the entire hour on this question. [00:00:32] So I'll have to be brief, but I do want to address it because it's extremely important, certainly to me as a Jew, as an American Jew specifically. [00:00:44] I left the Democratic Party in the early 80s. [00:00:51] I stopped voting Democrat. [00:00:53] Well, I did vote for Jimmy Carter the first term. [00:00:56] That was the last Democrat I voted. [00:01:00] So I understand the almost primal affinity of American Jews to the Democratic Party. [00:01:12] And that is most American Jews, the most means more than fifty percent. [00:01:19] So please understand that doesn't mean all by any means. [00:01:23] But most American Jews associate right wing with the inevitable downhill slide to Nazi or Nazism. [00:01:38] That's right wing it's a Pavlovian response in most American Jews. [00:01:45] Right wing leads to Hitler. [00:01:48] By the way, even the question was Hitler right wing or left wing is a very by the way, it's not an illegitimate question. [00:01:55] The left has brilliantly convinced everyone that Hitler and the Nazis were rightists. [00:02:05] But in fact, a lot of the opposition to Hitler came from conservatives. [00:02:11] Also, some came from communists. [00:02:13] There's no question. [00:02:14] I just want to note both. [00:02:16] Both are true. [00:02:19] But Hitler hated capitalism. [00:02:22] And Nazism stood for National Socialism. [00:02:25] Socialism. [00:02:28] That's not exactly right-wing. [00:02:40] Socialism is not a right-wing doctrine. [00:02:44] Racism is not a right-wing doctrine. [00:02:46] By the way, it's not a left-wing doctrine. [00:02:48] It's sui generis. [00:02:50] It's its own unique evil. [00:02:54] Racism is neither right-wing nor left-wing. [00:02:59] But the left has effectively identified racism with right-wing and Nazi with right-wing and And that has stuck. [00:03:13] Stalin called Trotsky, the father of the Red Army, the father along with Lenin of Soviet communism, he called him a fascist. [00:03:25] And it works, that's how it works. [00:03:28] The left sort of rules our vocabulary. [00:03:34] So American Jews seared by the Holocaust, even if they lost no relatives in it, believing that right wing leads to Nazism will just always vote anti-right, which is the in American terms, the Democratic Party. [00:04:00] So that's one reason. [00:04:03] Now, that's the biggest. [00:04:07] For an American Jew, and I know this because I'm an American Jew, and I remember when I first voted Republican. [00:04:18] This will sound bizarre to all of you, but I give you my word it is true. [00:04:24] I felt that I was sitting. [00:04:27] against the Jewish people and Judaism. [00:04:32] That's how hard it was to vote Republican. [00:04:40] But as I said then, and I was right, I did not leave the Democratic Party. [00:04:44] The Democratic Party left me. [00:04:46] And now, if it is not obvious that the Democratic Party has left American Jews, it will never be obvious. [00:04:54] There's no excuse to vote Democrat by any decent person. [00:05:03] You gave these choice that they're for the underdog. [00:05:06] That's what they believe. [00:05:07] But if you're for the underdog, you vote Republican because the Democrats are the party of the wealthy. [00:05:13] But in any event, they were for the underdog and Israel isn't the underdog. [00:05:16] Of course, Israel is the underdog. [00:05:20] It's unbelievable. [00:05:21] Israel is surrounded by hundreds of thousands There is no such hatred on the face of the earth. [00:05:32] The Iranian regime on the doorstep of nuclear weapons announces its greatest goal is the eradication of Israel and its Jewish inhabitants. [00:05:45] And the same with Hamas, the same with Hezbollah, and the same with ISIS, and the same with any of the other radical Islamic movements. [00:05:57] But Israel is not the underdog. [00:06:00] Israel is the size of New Jersey, surrounded by by Muslim countries who want to eradicate it in most cases. [00:06:12] Israel is the underdog that has figured out how not to get destroyed. [00:06:18] That's it. [00:06:18] That's all it is. [00:06:21] It's really David and Goliath. [00:06:24] Who is the underdog? [00:06:25] Goliath because he got killed by David? [00:06:29] Is that how it works? [00:06:32] The loser is by definition the underdog. [00:06:39] They are pro-abortion. [00:06:41] That's true. [00:06:41] True, secular Jews are pro-abortion, most American Jews are secular. [00:06:48] That's correct.
