Dennis to Candace: How Do You Develop Courage?
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
I'm going to ask you a question that's sort of, as they say, is out of left field.
But I'm very interested in what you might say.
I'm very transparent to my audience, as I think you know, and they know.
One of the reasons I've been on for 35 years.
For better or for worse, this is who I am.
And one day, somebody called me, and they put an idea in my mind.
Dennis, you speak about courage a lot.
So how do you become courageous?
And it really started me thinking.
I finally gave a lecture on it.
I'm just letting my listeners know it's available, the lecture, how to be courageous, at thepragerstore.com.
And you have courage.
I believe I have courage.
And the question is, can one develop it, or is it sort of like, Musical ability that's sort of built in.
What's your take on courage?
You know, I think it's both.
I definitely think that you can become more courageous over time and that certain elements of what's going on in the world can transform you into a more courageous person.
You know what I mean?
And I think you wake up one day and you go, wait a second, I don't recognize the place I'm living in anymore.
And my silence has played a part in allowing...
By the way, talk a little more directly in the phone.
Sometimes it gets muffled.
Oh, sorry.
Okay.
Yeah, I would definitely say that.
I think it's something that you can develop, you know, because of situational courage.
And you realize, oh my gosh, I've played a part.
My silence has played a part in the destruction of society.
I suspect there are, for example, are a lot more Californians.
Who are raising to the challenge to be more courageous and more vocal because they don't recognize their state anymore.
But I do think that there are some people that are just born with it.
And I definitely am someone that has always been this way.
Professors, teachers, my parents.
Coming from the time I was four years old, I just always knew what was what.
And I didn't really want adults telling me, oh, Candace, you know, you can't do that or Santa's not going to come.
My dad said I was kind of the toddler that would shoot back.
Well, then tell him I said not to come, you know?
So I've always had this thing about being myself and never wanting that to be stripped away from me.
And I don't know where I get that from.
I think it's just built into my DNA. But other people can work on that and practice that.
And in a circumstance like today, when we are in the midst of an ideological civil war, there's no greater time to speak up and to say, That this is right and this is wrong.
So it's a great answer and I agree with every word and it does sort of sustain my belief that some people it's just built into their DNA. However, that doesn't mean any more than if great musical talent isn't in your DNA. It doesn't mean you can't play the piano.
Everybody can play the piano.
And everybody can become more courageous.
And I think the biggest step is you have to wake up one day.
You can't wake up one day and be courageous.
But you can wake up one day and say, I want to be courageous.
And that's when it starts.
And a definition, which I know you will resonate to, is you cannot be guided.
That is so well said, and I think that that is one thing that is so interwoven to my character.
I just don't care to be well-liked, and this is not a popularity contest for me, and I would say that especially with Black America.
I'm not trying to be your fiancé.
I'm not trying to be your queen.
I'm not the parent that's trying to be friends with their kids.
You know what I mean?
I'm trying to say what's right and what's wrong and play a part in building a society that I want to live in.
And I'm not fearful to say that, even when the truth is, because the truth is not always popular.
We know that today the truth is actually not popular.
People that strive for popularity and strive to be like are okay to lie in order to do so, and that is so wrong.
And I hope that In all of my various successes that I've been having despite my willingness to say, many people don't want to hear, that I inspire people to go out and do the same and not just individuals, corporations.
Stop allowing yourself to be shaken down by Black Lives Matter, being told that you need to post Black Squared.
I mean, there are such small acts of defiance that we can take and that we should take.
Don't be fearful, because on the other side of those things, people say, I'll lose all my clients, or you'll gain tons more.
Bless you, bless you.
Because people like the truth.
Thank you, and on behalf of America, thank you.
