So weight gain.
Sure.
We actually gain most of it at the holiday season.
How much do you roughly gain a year?
Probably about five or eight.
I'm the sibling that travels the longest and then the two in the middle, they do this sibling rival cookoff.
So I'm the judge.
I have to taste everything and I don't mind tasting everything.
So about five to eight pounds.
They're picking on you.
Yes, they are.
I'm the oldest, only girl, so that's how it goes.
That's a blessed place to be.
Absolutely.
Metabolism is an important part of weight gain.
Sure.
How does it play a role in your life?
It plays a big role, especially during the holiday season.
I think my metabolism goes into a coma because, you know, I eat with my eyes.
So you want to eat everything.
I am the holiday cheer because most of the year they don't see me.
And it slows down.
I get sluggish.
And who wants to work out during the holiday season?
No one's going to do that.
Not in the two businesses.
Not me.
They're too busy eating.
I like the idea of your metabolism being in a coma.
It is.
So we're going to resuscitate it.
We're doing CPR.
Your metabolism.
That sounds good to me.
All right.
So I've created my fast metabolism plan.
I've consulted with the best of the best when it comes to this.
Okay.
I'm telling you, I got metabolism whisperer Haley Pomeroy.
Wow.
I've got weight loss expert Chris Powell.
He knows how to do it in a very big way.
And I've got a diet doctor who's a member of my advisory board, Ravinia Brock.
Okay.
So I've got the best of the best.
It's kind of like a case study.
You might be a case study.
We'll see how you do all this.
So I want you to stand right here.
I'm going to explain to you what they've shared with me.
These are ideas that are designed for the holiday season.
So here's the plan.
It takes seven days.
And here's why it takes seven days.
Because I know that you're going to splurge.
This plan takes into account two splurge days.
Okay.
You go ahead and take these splurge day icons.
Well, I would put this on.
You can't put it every day.
No.
That's the whole point.
You get two days of splurge.
I'm only asking one day.
Every day.
Closer to the week.
Let's start Thursday.
Thanksgiving coming up.
That would be a good day.
Pick one more Splurge Day, anywhere you want.
Very flexible programming.
Left over Black Friday.
Oh, back to back.
All right, fine.
So maybe not paying attention.
You're putting yours here.
It's flexible.
You can be good.
So then, once you put these days that you look forward to all year long on your calendar and no one's dieting, go ahead and enjoy these days.
Don't think about weight, diet, anything else.
All I'm asking you to do is follow along in the other five days.
Okay.
Because those days, we're going to focus on macronutrient programs that work.
I told you about the experts and their advice.
Right, right.
It'll help speed your metabolism up, put it back on off-life support.
Wake it out there, cold.
Let's wake it up again.
But they work in different ways.
So two days a week are high-protein days.
Let's just say, as an example, you make them Sunday and Monday.
Okay.
So let's do that.
And then you have to have a smart carb day.
I'm going to explain what all these are in a minute.
Put that anywhere you want.
About the middle of the week.
You got two healthy fat days, which aren't so difficult to do.
You take Tuesday, I'll take Saturday.
Okay.
You take Saturday for a healthy day.
But this could be it.
Now, you might say, I'm not going to eat healthy on Saturday.
Move my Splurge Day over here.
That's fine, too.
You can pick the Splurge Days, whatever you want to do.
So you can't go wrong with this.
There's no mistakes, really?
No mistakes at all.
Okay.
As long as you remember that you own two days and we're going to share five days.
Okay.
And that's where it comes in.
The tricks of these other five days will help make up for any problems that happen on the splurge day.
You're not going to lose weight in this diet.
That's not the program.
The program is to speed your metabolism up, keep your weight equal.
If you don't gain weight in the holidays, you're not going to gain weight throughout the year.
That's the time that's really your battle of the bulge.
So I don't get happy until the end of the week.
This is what?
Wheat and seeds.
No.
Did I get into the cup?
I knew you'd say that.
When can I be happy?
Well, you mentioned that.
You're going to be happy the whole time.
Okay.
Some of these things are a lot easier than others, but they're all pretty easy to do.
Especially since you're so curious, come on, we're going to start off with protein.
Okay, sure.
Your high-protein days, and again, these are days that are critical to you.
They are the days that are the inverse of your holidays.
Okay.
The splurge days you mentioned.
What would you typically eat on a splurge day?
What would those siblings of yours make you make pecan pie for you?
Do they?
They're really into meat.
Meat.
Meat and sauces and pastas.
Richest pasta.
Put all that together.
Cream-based pastas.
Your eyes are salivating.
I know.
And your mouth.
I know.
So the protein boosts your metabolism naturally because the body doesn't know how to metabolize it the right way, so it speeds up its metabolism to burn away more calories.
So protein is a wonderful antidote to those splurge days.
So, but you're going to eat three meals with lots of protein in them and pant two snacks with lots of protein in them, especially with veggies.
And you're not going to have much fat, and you're not going to have any carbs.
Okay.
That's too good.
So for example, these egg whites.
You can taste whatever you wish.
Can I eat?
I feel like we're on a date or something.
I didn't know you were going to feed me.
I'm feeding you.
I'm excited.
It's the best way to go.
Mushrooms, mushrooms, spinach.
But again, the key here is the protein with the eggs.
I put some cheese here with cucumbers.
Again, it's a protein snack.
Tuna fish, protein, turkey, protein.
I wrap them on pickles, but it's the protein I'm worried about here.
I'm focused on.
You mentioned meat.
This is meat without a lot of the rich sauces, but you can have some sauces on it.
Okay.
And all this is just rich, rich, rich protein.
Okay.
Does this look like I'm starving you?
No, actually, it doesn't.
Would this be a good date if you went out on it, or would you complain about it afterwards?
If it was with you, I would never complain.
All right.
Now.
One little extra bit of advice.
I think you ought to put your protein days together on your calendar over there because that way you can eat the leftovers one day on the next day.
The next day of Monday, we're doing stuff like this.
This is right after Thanksgiving, right before Thanksgiving, or another big holiday.
Okay.
Now, don't fill up on that.
You got more eating to do.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I'm going to.
So the next day is your smart carb day.
Now, smart carb day is all about fiber.
Okay.
Fiber is pretty important because after those big splurge days, you need to get that fiber food into your gut.
Your body processes fiber a lot slower than it processes other foods.
Okay.
But it likes it.
So it's going to move your other food with it along the path.
Now I find when I do eat more fiber, I'll get this like bloated feeling.
Is that natural?
Am I eating it too much?
Am I eating it wrong?
Am I pairing it up?
That's a great way.
That's a great issue because here's what the deal is.
If you naturally eat a high-fiber diet, you won't have that problem.
If suddenly you go from the average in America, which is, let's say, 10 grams of fiber, to all of a sudden 25 grams, which is what I'm asking you to do, yeah, you'll get a little bloated.
That's it.
Because you can't keep up.
But the solution is not to kill the 25 grams of days.
You said add a little bit more fiber to your other days so you never feel overwhelmed by it.
It's the single, easiest way to deal with splurge diets and big meals is to eat fiber with them.
If nothing else, sprinkle fiber on them.
I don't care how you get them in there.
So again, go ahead and eat.
So oatmeal for breakfast.
You can put berries on it, but it's the oatmeal is the hero.
You know, that's a good idea because normally I'll do like syrup, butter.
Syrup's problem, syrup's problem.
You're not going to see a lot of simple sugars here.
You get all the simple sugars you get on your splurge days.
Dried fruits like figs are fantastic here.
Beans work well.
They got protein and carbs.
You've got carbs in the bread.
Carbs in your apple.
We have a little cinnamon on there.
It helps with the metabolism of sugar and all.
That's fancy.
It's pretty fancy dancing, isn't it?
Yeah.
I made that myself.
Look like that at home in my kitchen.
You would know.
No one's kitchen looks like that.
All right.
And then you can get a whole grain pasta and you can put spicy stuff on it.
That'll actually rev your metabolism up as well.
So, this is a training camp for your body.
You got your splurge days in there.
You're going to be full by the time you're done here.
I didn't eat breakfast.
That's not a good thing, though.
No, it's very, it's not a good thing normally, but for this show, it was a very smart move.
Now you've got room for more.
We've got plenty.
So let's get back to the program.
Now we're in the final two-day piece, which is all about the healthy fats.
Okay.
Healthy fat days are critical because you're basically combining the protein and the carbs, I read the fiber that comes with the carbs all together, and now you're adding a little fat.
So there's no real pain here.
This is a wonderful diet to eat all day long and all year long.
But for you, because I know two of your days are going to be big-time splurge days, this is going to be a really important antidote to make sure you don't overdo it the other times.
So give me your favorite thing to eat.
What's your favorite carb, for example, to have on Thanksgiving?
Gravy with mashed potatoes.
That's a Thanksgiving.
Mashed potatoes with a lot of gravy.
My goodness.
Yes, I love mashed potatoes and gravy.
Is gravy a beverage where you come from?
Pretty much.
Yeah.
Pretty much.
Especially with those two boys cooking.
Yes, indeed.
So you've gotten all that stuff in on your splurge days.
You're gonna save up a little bit of that energy on your on-spurge.
So these are all about the fats.
So you get the yolk and the eggs.
You got the olive oil with the humus.
So the oil actually has the fat.
Okay.
Here, you got a little bit of everything, but the avocados are the heroes.
I love avocados.
You get fat with the peanut butter with a lot of other good things as well.
And then the ideal, the iconic, the famous healthy fat is salmon.
Does this seem like a difficult thing to find?
No, it doesn't.
It doesn't at all.
Any specific kind of peanut butter, there's all these brands, all these different versions of peanut butter, not just a regular peanut butter.
I like peanut butter that settles up and the oil separates.
Natural stuff.
Natural stuff.
Gotcha.
And you need to mix it a little bit to get it together.
That means that it's real.
That's how it's supposed to be.
If you made it at home, that's how it would be.
Okay.
Yummy.
You can do this.
Yeah, this is easy.
I could do this.

As a surgeon, my patients often are facing the end of life.
But last week, I got to be a part of the beginning of life.
And it's something I don't get to do too often.
I joined the OBGYN team at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at New York Presbyterian, Columbia, and I helped deliver a baby.
Our expecting mother, Rosanna, had come to our hospital at 5 a.m. the day before and has already been in labor for over 24 hours when I arrived on the scene.
How are you?
So she's not insane.
My insane meters.
Can I take your mask off so I can see her pretty face?
How are you feeling?
It's good.
I feel good.
So much exciting.
I want to see my baby.
It's your first one, huh?
Yeah.
I had four of them.
And every one is a miracle.
Believe me.
You must be very proud today.
I'm really proud of that.
I'm not confirmed for the second one, but you said bad.
He's a lot of pain.
He's a lot of pain.
Yeah, fuel the baby?
Is that okay?
Yeah.
She's in the right spot.
How felt thick and earth confractions?
About every two to three minutes.
Everything seemed business as usual.
Then I was told some disturbing news.
She's been laboring for how long?
She's been ruptured since the 21st.
So for two days ago, her membrane struck her.
Exactly.
Rosanna's water broke before she went into labor, raising mother and baby's risk of complication.
We're monitoring her temperature to make sure, and the baby's heart rate to make sure that she's not becoming infected because now she's at risk for infection and coriolisamnitis.
So once that sterile sac gets broken into, bacteria can go in there.
Sometimes the baby's heart rate goes up and you can see that it's slowly climbing up a bit.
So how high does temperature have to be before you start getting concerned?
100.4 is when we start, you know, we start getting a little bit more.
And she's 99.
It's currently 99.8.
Yeah.
So we're hoping that she pushes this baby out before she's up, you know, before she develops an infection.
It's a race.
It's a big time race.
Rosanna is now a high-risk pregnancy.
She's completely dilated.
Completely dilated.
She's 10 centimeters dilated.
We're just waiting for the baby to come down a little bit more.
Then that way when it's time to push, she doesn't have to push for quite so long and it's actually better for the baby.
I'm Annette Perez Delboy.
I'm one of the maternal fetal medicine doctors here at New York Presbyterian Columbia Medical Center.
I'm going to be the doctor assistant Rosanna in her delivery today.
For people who've never delivered before, we need to teach them how to push.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Muebe?
Die.
Good.
Okay.
Okay, she did pretty well.
This is the hard part.
Deep press, slow, depressed, slow, depressed.
We decided to adjust the bed a little bit just to let her labor on her own.
The baby is beginning to rotate by itself, head first down the birthing canal.
Push, push, push, push.
One, two, three.
Two, three.
Five, keep pushing.
Six, seven, push.
The next thing, you know, we would do is decide to help her to deliver.
So that means I wouldn't have to use a forceps or a vacuum to help her deliver the baby.
The baby's head is now stuck at an angle behind the pelvic bone.
Dr. Perel's dog boy is attempting to gently massage and rotate the baby as Rosanna pushes.
I know, I know, I know.
I'm going to hurt, so don't take a deep breath.
Push down for me.
Push my hands off.
Okay.
You know, the baby's head should be right in the middle, but it's not.
You know, it's kind of to the side a little bit.
So first it was facing parameter transfer, so I fixed it, but it's still sideways, not completely straight.
So the force of you can straighten it out until you guide it down.
Correct.
So it's not like you're pulling, you're guiding.
Oh, I do a lot of pulling.
Pulling.
Okay.
It's now a race against the clock.
The baby's head is still stuck behind the pelvic bone.
Within seconds, Rosanna's birthing room is transformed into an OR.
If the team doesn't get the baby out soon, Rosanna might need a cesarean section.
Since the baby is halfway down the birthing canal, in order to do a C-section, we'd have to literally push the baby back up.
It's a very dicey moment, so we've got to make some decisions.
I think because the lady's halfway down the canal, but not far enough down to deliver, they're going to resort to forceps, which is very uncommonly done these days.
We've got a couple bunch of doctors.
You've got anesthesia in there.
It's full course.
You know, press just to make sure this happens.
If this is the head, how do they go?
You gotta protect the vaginal wall and then you slide it in gently.
Once the head begins to come through, take him off in the bed, she pushes the rest away.
Hopefully.
Sometimes.
It's going to work.
You're very close.
You can see the head.
The whole head's down there now.
Her head's a little crooked, but it's coming out.
Let's do this.

I mean, we were in a complete impasse.
You didn't have a lot of options.
You had no safety net.
I think this is what we do day to day.
I mean, New York Presbyterian at Columbia, we have a mother center for complicated mothers and mothers who are high risk.
So I think what we did, there is a day-to-day for us.
We have much more complicated mothers than this.
So for us, just another day, the job.
I'm so happy for you.

So one of our big family secrets that we are now going to share with you is rosemary essential oils.
About 30 drops in a little spray bottle of water.
They're super effective.
They will kill the bacteria, they'll kill the viruses, and they'll prevent transmission of diseases.
And even better, they're non-drying, they'll moisturize your hands, and they kind of smell fabulous.
And we put it on doorknobs, faucets, anywhere our kids or us might touch.
Yeah, very effective.

It's pretty interesting.
Let me teach you how to make it.
It's very straightforward.
I love it for a bunch of reasons.
Rosemary oil has natural antiseptic properties.
Like Heather mentioned, so you can use alcohol and bleach and what did you mention?
Ammonia.
Ammonia.
She lives, you know, nothing will be standing.
But I like things that you can take that actually take some prisoners like you, so you don't have a bad odor in your mouth.
Here's how you make it.
Eight ounces of tortured water with 30 drops of rosemary essential oil.
You just drip it in there, you get a bottle just like this, and you'll be able to enjoy this all the time.
You can use it as perfume as well.
Really?
No, I'm kidding.
You can't use perfume.
All right.
Our next singer comes from Dr. Jen Cottle from New Jersey, who has a simple thing you can do right now to cut your risk of getting sick.
I'm a busy single girl, and I can't afford to get sick, but I love getting manicures.
One of my secret tips to staying healthy is to keep my nails short.
This is really important for my practice as a physician, but it also helps keep me healthy.
Keeping your nails short will lower the risk of getting germs and bacteria underneath the nail beds.
Sometimes I like to bring my own tools to the nail salon when I come.
It's really important that nail tools are either sterilized or disposable, but you can also bring your own.
And finally, after my manicure is done and my nails are dry, I make sure to wash my hands with soap and water.
I adore this tip, but I'm here with Shay, and she acknowledges that she's a bit skeptical.
Shay, may I see your fingertips just like, oh my goodness.
Look at these things.
They are beautiful.
Now, how long are they?
They're about five millimeters, I'd say.
Surgeons measure distance with their fingernails.
Okay.
Because when we're in the operating room, we don't have a ruler.
So five millimeters.
Have you always had nails like that?
Yes, I've actually had them longer and I recently cut them down.
And you do them at a salon?
Yes, I do them at a nail salon.
And I go three to four times a month.
And you take your own equipment with you?
No, I don't take my own equipment.
I just go in there, let them pull their equipment off the drawer, and they just do that.
I trust them.
Would you consider cutting your nails shorter to the two millimeter range?
No, my nails are like part of my outfit.
I'm like devilicious and I will never come.
The reason I'm suggesting this is people have actually studied this.
They look at how long nails are and how often you get problems.
They did a study in Michigan.
We looked at doctors and nurses and they found that the ones that had two millimeter long nails, like mine, they actually have significantly less bacteria hiding in their nails.
Okay.
Especially this time of year, not a bad thing to have.
Let me show you what's going on.
Come over here.
Shake stand right there.
So I made this little mock-up of nails.
It's not as elegant as your.
What did you say?
Delicious?
What was the word you said?
Devilicious.
Devilicious.
Yes.
It's not devilicious nails, but they're traditional nails.
And normally what happens is you get the nail and it builds up and as it gets longer, it's hard to clean up underneath it.
So if I were to take the equivalent of a scraper and gently make my way under here, I'd remove that.
That's gross.
Now, here's what I want you to do if you don't mind.
I want you to pretend that you're scratching your face.
Take a little bit of this, and you don't have to actually put it there because you're too pretty.
Just pretend, you start mashing up your face, and we touch our face a couple times a minute.
So this bacteria that you can quickly get from under your fingernails starts to get to your face pretty rapidly, including other things.
If there's virus stuff in there, other things can get there as well.
So cutting your nails, and you don't have to make them too short.
You make your nails too short, you get hangnails, other problems.
So we're going to leave just a little bit of room.
So I could work in a salon if I did.
Oh, that's not bad.
Please.
That's heartbreaking.
It's not bad.
Then if you wash your hands or scrub them once in a while, there's no room for the bacteria and other germs to hide in there.
So you end up with a little less of this.
That's problematic.
You might think about it.
Although I love those devilicious nails.

As a father and as a plastic surgeon, I'm a busy man.
Staying healthy is key, not just for health, but to keep up with my wife, my kids, and frankly, with my patients.

And when you get them fresh, they're actually a little bit moist, and they're all available all over the place.
And here's why this secret is such an amazing one.
They're loaded with selenium.
It's a potent nutritional antioxidant.
You want five every morning, and that will influence your immune response.
Who wants these?

You guys hoarded all the nuts over here.
All right, pass them over there.

And it comes down to something that's very, very simple, actually.
It's apples.
They really do help you prevent all kinds of illnesses.

Okay, first, hug.
Is it right for stress?
Avoid the screaming.
So, you know, one of the things about stress that I've found as a physician over the years is when we're really under a lot of stress, we do a lot of things not right, right?
We don't sleep as well, we're not eating as well, we crave lots of caffeine, carbs, et cetera.
So the solution I would like to offer today is an herb that can help with stress, kind of normalizing stress, and also give that immune system a boost.
And it's an herb called astragalis.
You're going to be fascinated by this.
Have you heard of astragalus root?
I have never heard of it before.
They look like tongue depressors, don't they?
They talked about like Neil Milos.
So where do you find these?
So you can get these at any natural grocery store.
You can get them at Asian grocery stores.
You can buy them online as well.
They're actually really not very expensive.
The reason they look like long slivers is because this is the root that's been cut long lengthways.
It tastes like wood.
Well, it is wood.
It's a root.
You're not going to eat it.
It's sweet, but it has kind of a sweet taste to it.
And when you think about all the different flavors, it's kind of sweet.
It's this woody sweet.
So how does it work?
It's not a Brazil nut.
It actually, it belongs to a class of plants called adaptogens.
And adaptogens, I think, are actually going to be probably the most important class of plants that we're going to find in the 21st century.
I really do.
Adaptogens have the ability, they have compounds in them which help the body adapt to stress, whether it's physical stress, psychological stress, or environmental stress.
Adaptogens help the body withstand stress in a more healthy way, allows the body to adapt.
You can even break these roots.
This issue in adaptogen, I'm really impressed you think they're that important.
I've always been impressed by them, and it's good to see a world-class practitioner think that.
Let me explain what this really is.
It's going to change the way you think about stress in your life.
So it's a very hot topic in alternative medicine.
And let me show you what they're used as and how they think about them.
So adaptogens basically refer to compounds that allow the body to naturally fight off stress from any external source.
So the stress comes in and look at your stress response over there.
Normally your body will release chemicals and the stress response will improve and then come back down.
Now, some people, I'm not going to name any names, actually take stimulants like caffeine or energy drinks.
And you know what?
They do work a little bit.
They get in there fast.
They quickly increase your stress response.
Then they crash at you.
And when you crash to the ground, you have no stress response left anymore.
You actually weaken your ability to deal with life.
And it takes hours to bounce back.
Now, adaptogens give you that same boost that caffeine would have, but without the crash.
So you stay perked up all day long, your stress response is where you need it to be, and that's what we want in life, to fight off stress.

So you're going to suggest some easy ways in starting, I understand, with a soup.

I am the master of the canned soup, all right?
Because you know, those of us who are busy moms, one of the things you come home after 10-hour days, you don't want to make homemade soup, right?

So, one of the ways, the easiest ways, I've done this for more than 30 years in my own family, is just take a good can of soup, hopefully with some veggies and things in it.
You take one of those long slivers, cut it in half, and you throw it in the soup, put a lid on, let it cook for about 10 minutes while you're whipping up a salad or whipping up a glass of wine.
And after about 10 minutes, you're going to just take the pieces of wood out because you don't eat them.
Basically, now she tells me.
I've been chewing on that feeling woodpecker over here the whole time.
You take it out.
That's also why you want to use these long slivers because they're easier just to remove.
And soup and salad is underrated as a quick 10-minute sort of healthy meal.
And soups are low-calf.
Stress is a big deal in the morning.
Let's say you're getting ready to go real fast.
Yep.
Can you take it in some of your breakfast dishes?
You can take it whenever you want at any time of the day.
And smoothies are great for busy families when you've got kids because you can use whole fruits.
Hopefully you're using some, you know, good Greek yogurt, something rich in probiotics and protein.
You just take about a teaspoon of the astragalus root.
You can get it in powder.
You can also get it in the root.
You throw it in your smoothie and you're good to go.
That is so good.
Is that good?
That's right.
I just got a teaspoon of astragalus in it.
I got a splinter.

What do you see when you look at that family?
I hardly recognize them.
I see people that basically were just kind of going through life, not really enjoying it.
There were some health problems due to the weight.
It was difficult to get around because of the weight, difficult to walk sometimes, difficult to fit into chairs when we would go out to eat or out to movies.
And I'm so happy they decided to make those changes.
So you mentioned that you're inspired by your family.
Very much so.
I'm a real lucky man.
And I get a little emotional about it.
But my son, I'm able to go to see him in competitions.
And he's a bodybuilder, as you saw in the pictures.
And just to see him up on the stage is amazing.
Look at this picture, everybody, by the way.
And Kyle made this transformation when he was a king.
Hey, Kyle, how do you find the self-discipline to do this?
Well, you know, Dr. Oz, the discipline, we really helped each other out a lot.
We discussed all of our meals and a lot of foods that we would eat together.
We really helped kept each other disciplined.
But as far as self-discipline, when I lay there as a teenager and I see these big guys, these great-looking guys that you see on the cover of a magazine, it was only in my dreams to look like that.
Every teenage boy wants to look like that, all the muscles, all the cuts, as we say.
And I just thought of that every day.
And I just remembered my goal every single day, and I stuck to it, especially when the going went hard.
Unbelievable.
So you've got two gifts for me, I understand.
The first one, I know about.
I don't know what the second one is, but this is bread, I gather.
Yes, yes.
I make my own bread, my own whole wheat bread at home.
That way I know everything that's going into it.
It's got some whole wheat bread or whole wheat flour.
It's got some flax meal in it.
It's got aguave nectar, which I learned about from watching this show.
Some unsweetened apple.
I'm going to cut this up with the audience.
This is really good.
It is good, isn't it?

You get two splurge days.
That's right, two of them.
Each week, you can move them around as you want and focus on the rest of your week with the healthy macronutrients.
So you have your Thanksgiving dinner, have your family dinners on the weekends, but then give me back five days so we can keep you in good shape.
Two of those days are going to be high protein days.
For example, we have egg whites here, but primarily focused on protein in your meal.
Then you get one smart carb day.
We focus on high fiber foods.
For example, here I have whole grain pasta with veggies.
Then you have two days of healthy fats, which are basically put the protein and the carbs together, add some healthy fats.
Easy to do.
Foods like, for example, a chicken sandwich, you have the bread, the chicken, oh, that's all the carbs and the protein, but the avocados are the hero here.
It's the healthy fats.
Together, they'll keep your diet intact, your weight intact.
You can eat whatever you want for the other two days.
A great MD secret to not getting sick, because we pulled a bunch of them, was given to us by Dr. Justin Piaseki.
He let us in on his stay healthy trick.
He eats five Brazil nuts every morning.
These nuts are packed with selenium.
It's a potent nutritional antioxidant.
I love the taste.
It's a little bit exotic, not that expensive.
Finally, a Chinese herb that's been used for thousands of years that you can try when you're feeling stressed, and it's better than coffee.
It's called astragalous root.
You get the restorative boost of astragalus root by putting the small pieces.
For example, they look like tongue depressors.
Pretty straightforward.
They taste like wood, so you can't eat them straight up.
You're going to break them and then put them in your soup for about 10 minutes as you're cooking it, and then take them out and get rid of them.
And you can add it to a pot of boiling water if you want to make a tea.
