Six Signs Your Upset Stomach Isn't Normal 00:15:19
Let's just get it out there.
Gas.
Today.
I'm the Dr. Rosh Show.
I'm revealing the six signs your upset stomach isn't normal.
Signs to watch out for.
Pain or cramping.
The gut healing foods that will fix your digestive system.
Before you reach into your medicine cabinet, the best medicine may already be in your fridge.
Plus, fight the flu with the best home remedies.
This secret ingredient.
Coming up next.
Are you ready to say some lies today?
Yeah!
Yeah!
I love you, Dr. Lodge.
It's your body's touchiest organ, the source of your pain after you've eaten too much.
I know you're excited to hear all this, but you know, maybe you've eaten the wrong foods.
We're talking about your stomach.
Excuse me.
Your stomach.
So if you're always afraid that what you're eating, drinking, or even doing might set it off...
Must be something I ate.
Or so you think.
Because today I'm revealing the six signs your upset stomach isn't normal.
So we're going inside your stomach to repair it with food fixes that can finally get to the root of your problem.
Gastroenterologist Dr. Rashini Raj is here, along with holistic nutritionist JJ Verger, who knows how to heal the gut from the inside out.
So Dr. Raj, you just heard my stomach.
I did.
We all did.
Co-hosting with me.
I see that.
I see that.
So why is gut health so important?
Well, you know, we think of our brains as very important, but really Command Central is happening in your gut because the beneficial bacteria in there can govern so much.
Not only digestion, but your immune system, hormonal balances, weight loss, weight gain, metabolism, even mental health may be potentially affected by your gut.
So JJ, a lot of times we blame the foods that we eat.
How big a factor is food really?
Is that really the first thing to go for?
Yes, I'm going to go for food first.
And it's the usual suspects.
It's all of that processed food.
It can make your gut leakier.
It's the sugar and artificial sweeteners.
They can feed the bad bacteria, which makes you bloated.
But when you couple that with stress, it's like this one-two punch because the stress lowers your enzyme.
So now you have trouble with digestion and it makes your gut leakier.
So that's the real problem.
So together we're going to tackle this.
We're going to start off with the topic.
Come on over here.
I'll meet you in a second, JJ.
Okay.
And we'll go inside the stomach, but not inside any stomach.
Going inside the stomach of someone we all know very well.
Our good friend Vernatha.
Hello.
Hello.
Just kind of.
So Vrenatha actually swallowed this pill cam.
I did.
Yeah.
On purpose, by the way.
And this pill cam, not too hard to swallow, right?
Yeah, it was hard to swallow.
You see how big that thing is?
It's like a pill.
It's swallowed in a multivitamin.
It's huge.
Big of a horse.
So, Dr. Raj, take us a little tour through Anatha's intestines.
Oh, there they are.
Wow.
So here they are in Technicolors.
You can get up right in there.
I want to see a better view.
Let's look.
All right.
Well, we're going to start here and we're looking at her stomach.
And it's a beautiful story.
What is that?
Wait a minute.
What the?
What is this?
A UFO in there.
It's a flying saucer.
What is that?
Cheese and crackers.
But here, okay, now we passed into the small intestine.
And you see it has a more velvety appearance.
This is where we're really absorbing a lot of the nutrients that we need.
We're digesting, breaking down food even more so.
But once you're done here in the small intestine, we're going to move over.
Look at this.
Yeah.
What is going on?
Okay, well, here you're going to see that we very quickly moved from the small intestine into the cold.
Free at last.
There we go.
Thank God Almighty, I'm free at last.
Here you are.
That's all the normal junk that's supposed to be in there.
We're going to absorb a lot of water out of there.
And it's supposed to be pink.
So it all looks actually really good.
I have to tell you.
I got good gut.
You got a good gut.
Good gut.
Come with your gut.
I want to give this to you as a gift from the show, a pill cam.
Thanks.
Thanks.
It's used.
It's unused.
Make you feel better?
Oh, my goodness.
I do feel better.
All right, but that's pretty normal, isn't it?
It was normal.
Rather, thank you for that touring around inside of it.
Thank you.
All right.
Now, let's go for a second.
We go through the important signs that everyone needs to know if you are going to figure out if your upset stomach is a problem, right?
The first sign is whether or not the pain or the cramping is something that shows up at the same spot.
So Megan is here.
Yep.
And she says she's got pain in the same spot.
So That's a picture, roughly, of your stomach inside your body.
So draw me a circle, put an X, what marks the spot?
Where's the most of the problems?
Like right here.
Right in here.
So it's in your right side, just under the rib cage.
Yep.
Right.
So that pain is, you know, could be representing a couple of things.
Describe the pain to me.
It's dull.
It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does come about, it's annoying.
And I can't ignore it.
And frequency becomes an important clue.
So how frequent is too frequent?
At what frequency do we get concerned?
Well, you know, if it's just once in a while after you have a very rich meal or a heavy meal, that's not as concerning.
But if it's happening more frequently, several times a week, certainly if it's waking you up at night, things like that, you do need to be concerned.
And certainly if it's kind of boring into the back or any other areas towards your shoulder, that's concerning as well.
I hope it's helpful.
Thank you.
All right, next up, a sign that can be embarrassing and painful.
Let's just get it out there.
Gas.
Persistent gas.
Has anyone that you know, audience, have a problem with persistent gas?
Maybe the person next to you.
Does anyone know how many times a day we pass gas?
Yell it out.
A two.
A lot of people have numbers they think.
Renata's offering her thoughts as well.
I didn't see from over there.
But the actual number has been measured, believe it or not, and it's the same for men and women.
It's 14 times a day.
Which means, if you've been watching the show since the beginning, you probably pass gas.
Skip that.
So how often is it food's fault that we've got gas?
Well, normally it's food's fault because actually gas is a byproduct of digestion.
So as you said, it's totally normal to pass gas, just not excessively.
All right, two signs to watch out for in the bathroom.
So it's very personal, very private.
The first one has to do with blood in the stool.
What could that mean during a bowel movement?
We always take this very seriously.
Now it could be something very benign like a hemorrhoid or a fissure, which is just like a little, almost like a paper cut in that area, but it could be the sign of colon cancer or rectal cancer.
We take it very seriously.
It should always be investigated.
And the other issue is having pain when you have a bowel movement.
Yeah, well again, you know, many people suffer from constipation.
Sometimes that's a metabolic issue, a thyroid issue.
Things are just slowing down as we get older and that can cause drier, harder, more painful bowel movements.
But again, it could be a sign of cancer or something more serious of inflammation in the colon like inflammatory bowel disease.
Get it checked out.
Okay, before I reveal the next sign, question for everybody.
Who's had a morning where they cannot zip up their genes?
Yes?
All the hands went up.
All the hands went up.
Everyone who's listening said it was true, and myself included.
Up next, the at-home test you can do to find out if your bloating is not normal.
Stay here.
Are these new zero-calorie foods causing more harm than good?
And hundreds of passengers on major cruise lines have mysteriously disappeared.
Could it happen to you?
Plus, Simodali Park is finally revealing all new odds.
That's coming up tomorrow.
We've been revealing the signs your upset stomach isn't normal.
And now an at-home test for one of the most confusing yet common signs of them all.
Bloating.
Now everyone's had a morning when you try to zip up your pants and it's just not happening because you're so bloated.
Gastroenterologist Dr. Rashini Raj is here, along with holistic nutritionist JJ Virgin.
JJ, why so many people experiencing bloating?
Well here's the deal.
A lot of these healthy foods actually can make you bloated and we're all trying to eat more fiber.
But the key takeaway is don't increase your fiber overnight.
Increase it over time and have a consistently healthy diet.
All right, so we've been promising an at-home test, Dr. Raj.
Share it with everybody, take it easy.
This is how we're going to find out if the bloating is normal or if it's a problem.
Right.
Okay, so for five days, I want you to really keep a bloating diary.
And what does that mean?
For five days, whenever you feel bloating, I want you to write down three things.
What did I eat?
When did I eat it?
And how much did I eat?
Now with that, if you see a clear pattern with certain food groups, like you just said, you may want to avoid them or at least more slowly introduce them into your diet.
If you don't see a pattern, that could be a sign that there's an underlying condition going on.
Go get it checked out.
So looking for that, you all got that?
Share with your friends and family.
Now, the most surprising sign that your upset stomach isn't normal, I say that for last.
It's what happens to your stomach when nighttime rolls around.
It all gets darker.
The moon comes out.
The stars are waiting for you.
Does your stomach go to bed peacefully or does it keep you up all night long?
Dr. Raj, when is an upset stomach at night a concern, a problem?
Okay, so generally speaking, stomach pain should not wake you up at night or regularly keep you up at night.
So if that's happening, it's time to really see your doctor.
And JJ, how do you avoid it?
Because for most people, there's probably simple steps that would work.
There is a very simple solution: lock the kitchen.
But seriously, we should be eating during the normal circadian rhythm.
So we really should be eating like six, seven o'clock at night and then give ourselves at least three hours before bed and give a good 12 to 14 hour overnight fast.
We really should do that.
That's your clue.
That way you'll enjoy it.
You won't turn into a vampire at night.
Dr. Raj AJ, thank you very much.
JJ's book, The Virgin Diet, is in stores now.
Find the full list of signs whether your stomach is normal or not on drows.com.
When we come back, Food Can Fix It, the gut healing foods that can heal your upset stomach problems.
Stay with us.
It's our biggest November ever on the Dr. Ross show.
New Alzheimer's action plans, new undercover investigations, new true crime cases, and the biggest stars.
All November, only on Dr. Oz.
All right, constipation, gas, and bloating.
Ooh, smelly.
Sorry about that, guys.
Whoa!
I've all been there, and your stomach goes there again, and you know it happens all the time.
But if you suffer from an upset stomach, we have got the solution.
Because today, food can fix your digestive system.
It can help heal your gut.
Now, before you reach into your medicine cabinet, the best medicine may already be in your fridge.
I'm going to introduce you to the real superstar for your digestive system.
It is called, there it is, a superbiotic.
Oh!
A superbiotic.
Now, what is that?
It's double-duty foods that are both a pre- and a probiotic.
The Adrian's would be.
How are you, Adrian?
Hello.
And Adrian believes that her stomach has been bothering her, whispering to you for years.
What's it saying?
It's like a horror movie, isn't it?
Yes.
So, what kinds of foods do you generally eat?
What do you think might be causing that stomach to want a little help?
Well, I love spicy.
Spicy food is the best.
I like it too.
Not always fun coming out sometimes.
It can be an issue.
Yeah.
Different show.
All right, I'm going to show you what a superbiotic is.
Now, think about this.
Okay.
A probiotic gives your body the bacteria that it sort of wants in the gut.
The prebiotics feed that bacteria.
So these, my friends, are probably the key ones.
And kimchi and sauerkraut, I love it.
But if they're not for you, and I know for some of you that might be a little bit of a stretch, I'm going to give you some cheats.
Okay.
All right, we're going to go over here and talk about prebiotics and probiotics and how they can work together.
These are the superbiotic combos I want you to think about.
So a couple pairings: yogurt and bananas.
Yogurt, because it's fermented, is a probiotic.
Bananas feed the bacteria perfectly.
So you combine them together, it's a good one-two punch.
Okay.
Okay.
Who'd go for this?
Hands up.
Who'd go for this?
There's an applause.
Now, this is the one you may have a little difficulty with.
This is more of an acquired taste.
I want you to think about it for a second, okay?
I happen to adore this.
It's feta cheese and onions.
Now, hold the applause.
Please hold the applause.
But hear me out here.
Okay.
So if you can get past the fact that you've never done it before, this might be the superstar solution you've been waiting for.
What do you think about the superbiotic combo?
I'll try not to say yikes.
I'll do it.
You're going to give it a shot.
I'll give it a shot.
You know what?
Yay for you.
Because this exclamation point could be one of the best things you do.
Okay.
Just make that gut of yours become nice and quiet and join you in a life of prosperity.
Yes.
Adrian, thank you very much for joining us.
No problem.
All right, guys, we'll be right back.
Up next, winter is coming.
The new cold and flu home remedies you haven't tried before.
Daphne and Lari are here, reveal new ways to stop down a cold.
They're tasty.
A chew.
Chew.
Winter is coming.
My old watch to game up, throws.
But you know what?
They're right.
Winter is coming and is forecast to be another bad year for flu and cold.
So today, I'm going to arm you with the best new home remedies that you have not yet tried to stop a cold in its tracks.
There are health secrets and food fixes that have protected two houses, House Oz and House Baldwin.
Hilaria Baldwin and my daughter Daphne Oz revealing their go-to home managers.
So come on out!
Hilaria Daphne!
Antioxidants for Immunity 00:05:07
Watch it move, go.
Thank you very much.
A little slow we're getting over here.
Daphne loves Game of Thrones.
Loves.
I do love Katie.
So I thought you'd enjoy that little paint.
It was very clever.
Very well done.
So, what goes down in a house Baldwin when there's an illness?
We realize that we're all going to get it.
And it's just one of those things where it's just you take a deep breath and you say, all right, I'm next.
Or even worse, one of the kids is next, and then you just don't sleep anyway.
So, and then usually there's complaining from my husband.
Before or after he gets sick.
All the time, but you know, at least there's consistency with it.
Exactly.
Like, I can imagine him complaining.
But in our household, people have arguments about who's the worst patient.
They have arguments?
Yes, I think.
I think we reached a consensus that you are the worst patient in our house.
I don't think there's a lot of argument happening there.
I'm sure a lot of the ladies in this room can attest.
Guys are terrible patients.
The second you get sick, you're like, I can't live like this.
How do I go on?
We're not trained with childbirth.
We don't have that kind of experience.
So we're baby.
Physical pain is challenging.
Come on over.
So the best remedies for cold and flu season.
Now, I'm going to share one with you.
This is not actually my idea.
It's not even Daphne's idea.
This is my father's idea.
And he came up with it because surgeons all know, this is a house Oz concept, to prevent cold, you've got to gargle with salt water.
And he actually figured it out because surgeons always put salty water in wounds to clean them out.
So he thought, why wouldn't you just do it with your throat?
It turns out it's probably the wisest thing to do.
So are you guys up for gargling a bit?
I totally.
Let me hear a little thick, deep gargle.
Really get in there.
What do we do with it when it's done?
You spit it out.
You can spit it out.
Everyone sees you.
Don't drink it.
Now, as you gargle for a minute, there's research that shows, done in Japan, by the way, that one minute, three times a day, reduces the number of colds you get.
Keep going.
Well, when we're halfway through, if you catch a cold, it's much milder.
The virus particles don't get in there.
Okay, spit it out.
What whiners you are.
Oh, my goodness.
Everyone sees that.
So unless you're good.
Look at all those germs.
Oh, no.
Are those germs?
It feels so gross.
Look back.
Here's the whole story.
So viruses get into our nose and it gets into our mouth.
But if you can gargle, you'll clean this whole area out here.
And there's no other easy way of doing that.
Yet it's so simple to do ourselves.
So that's step number one.
That's a house Oz roll.
Let's go to a house Baldwin roll.
All right.
This is a step up from traditional chicken noodle soup.
This is the famous Baldwin roasted white winter soup.
What is this about?
So this is one of my favorite things to make almost any time of year.
But I have a couple of special ingredients in this that I really like.
Number one is niso paste, which is a fermented food, and it is a probiotic.
Yes.
Another thing that we have, look, he's just like ready to eat.
I would have just tasted it.
Just taste it.
Taste it.
Tell me about it.
Is it good?
Did you like it?
Oh, my goodness.
It's a little sweet.
It's a little sweet because you have parsnip in it and everything.
Eye popping good.
Really, yes, robust.
Well, we have garlic in it as well, which is great for immunity.
And then one of my favorite things is apple cider vinegar.
And I'm a big fan of apple cider vinegar.
And it's great for detox and everything.
And it gives a little bite to the soup.
Of all the home remedies we do on the show, I bet you that's the most popular one.
Apple cider vinegar.
I like it.
I see why.
I mean, it's a good one.
And this makes medical sense too.
You got antioxidants for immunity, hydration.
But, you know, the soup itself, the warmth.
Part of the reason the food fixes is not just the nutrients, but how you take it in.
It loosens up the membranes in your nose, so all that stuff comes out.
Spectre, yeah.
Very good.
Very good scrappy words.
I like your show.
The spennel, by the way, they'll show up.
Oh, I love this.
Make it clear in your chest.
I love it also because so many people do like juice cleanses, things like that.
Soups I find personally are so much more filling and gratifying.
And I love that little hit of the vinegar from the apple cider.
All right, drop your soup because you got something to do now.
Well, okay, this soup is so dark and good.
We'll put a recipe on Oz.com if that's okay with you.
Yeah, you can all enjoy it.
Nasal decongestants are critical.
This is a natural one from House Oz.
Daphne, how do you make it?
Right, so everyone's used that sort of that rub that you put on your chest and you breathe it in and sort of menthol and eucalyptus and it helps to clear out if you have a congested sinus or knees, a nasal passageway.
So this is my own homemade, really, really simple recipe for that sort of vapor rub type situation.
It's just coconut oil, but you could really use any kind of fat.
So literally, this is how I do it at my house.
I just grab, and I, by the way, this is how I take my makeup off also.
How to Blow Your Nose 00:02:52
I just, oh my God, this is all I use to take my makeup off.
Just rub it all over your face and then wipe away with a paper towel.
But until you emulsify it like this in your warm hand and then just two or three drops.
And if a lot of people want to use this on their children, if the first time, what I'll do is I'll put it on the undersides of their feet, which are highly absorbent.
And then you can put little socks on if you wanted to to block it from the sheets and stuff.
You can throw this in the bathtub.
You can throw it, you know, in the shop.
Your mother would do this with Regano, and you guys always taste like pizza.
Yes, I know.
We were the pizza children.
It was really, I mean, it's a lot of friends.
You're fat, you might go for this.
I would totally.
And you know what I like is that you just made it right now.
So, I mean, sometimes it's like, I have to make it, I have to store it, I have to do everything.
You just made it in your hands.
And I mean, we definitely do stuff like different rubs on their chest, and this is easy.
So I have been looking forward to this moment all day long.
This is your weapon.
Daphne, your weapon here.
I'm going to blow your minds right now as you blow your nose.
Yes, this is all about running noses.
And there's actually a scientifically correct way to blow your nose.
Everyone in the audience, you all have tissue.
Please pull it out.
Are you all ready?
Not you.
Waving the white flag.
I'm glad that we're all doing this together because I love about health and medicine is you learn things we all did when we were about five years old.
The most important things we do all day long.
And then you find out that for how many, many years you are of age, you've been doing it wrong all those years.
This is one of those sentinel moments in your life.
Okay, everyone, show me how you blow your nose.
Right up?
Watch it.
Look at it.
Watch them all.
Watch them all.
Double-handed blowing, double-handed blowing, both nostrils, all wrong.
Come on down.
Now.
Now, Laria, let me.
I love that face of like, oh no, I failed.
I'm fine.
Let me see you blow.
You need a clean one?
I'm going to blow your mind.
Yes, let me see.
Oh, get out of here.
She knows.
My mom is a doctor, too.
I did not know that.
Yes.
I did not know that.
She taught you right.
I do it right too for the record.
So I made a little video for you that I want you all to look at, and then we're going to all post it to each other's Facebook pages.
Let's take a look at this.
Nose Blowing Technique 00:07:16
All right, so from now on, you're gonna plug one nostril, right?
And then gently blow the other side with the tissue there, and then reverse it like you were doing.
And the beautiful part about this is it reminds you to do it gently.
You're supposed to let the stuff come out with some gravity, a little bit of pressure, but not a ton.
That way you won't get the sinus headache so many of us suffer from.
I am so impressed by your mom.
Well, you know what?
She taught me like three things now.
What are the other two?
I am going to slowly reveal those.
Over the course of this year.
In the course of time.
We come back.
Winter's colds do not stand a chance against Daphne and Elaria.
Find out how you can burn calories and boost immunity at the exact same time.
Stick around.
Are these new zero calorie foods causing more harm than good?
And hundreds of passengers on major cruise lines have mysteriously disappeared.
Could it happen to you?
Plus, Simodali Park is finally revealing all new Oz.
That's coming up tomorrow.
Winter is coming, so we're revealing how you can boost your immunity to fight off colds and the flu.
Laurie Baldwin and my daughter Daphne Yaz are here with more remedies for super immunity.
The first remedy, golden latte at 2.0.
It's an upgrade.
Why do you love this?
I think golden milks, golden lattes are all the rage right now.
All that is really is fresh turmeric or dried turmeric in a milk base of some kind.
And for me, you know, if you don't need the caffeine, you can replace your coffee with this, or you could use green tea as a base, which I love as a little bit of a sort of equalizing caffeine level.
So this to me is a great way to start your day.
And the way that I boosted it up, I'll show you.
So we're starting.
Just real quick, you have turmeric?
Don't reveal the secrets.
Oh, okay.
So I'm going to go.
You're literally worms over here.
So this is coconut milk.
It's a cup of coconut milk, but you can literally use almond milk, regular dairy, whatever you wanted to have.
Woo, we are cooking the fire.
Yes.
This is how we do things here.
This is good.
The reason that I chose coconut milk though is because coconut milk has lauric acid in it, caprylic acid, so it actually is an antibacterial antimicrobial.
Look at you!
Look at you!
Absorbing enough.
Talk from our mom, by the way.
And I like to add a little bit of cinnamon.
Again, everyone loves a pumpkin spice latte.
This is your version of it at home.
All those pumpkin spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, go really nicely in here.
I add, this is where I get spoosted up, a bit of cayenne pepper.
Wow.
So this is going to make it a little bit spicy for those of you who like it spicy.
And again, I like to add that little bit of cayenne.
What was that you just put in there?
Nobody pay attention to that.
No sugar.
I thought that was sugar.
It looked like sugar.
You know, a spoonful of sugar really does help the medicine go down this time.
I'm using raw honey.
You can use a little splash of maple syrup.
Molasses is great because it has a lot of minerals in it as well.
Even a date, if you're going to blend this up.
A little bit of black pepper.
And I'll tell you why that's happening.
That is happening because to absorb all the great anti-inflammatory benefits of this fresh turmeric root.
This smells so good.
Right?
There are past windows over here, Lauria.
Let me taste it.
Oh, yeah, taste them.
And then we're just heating it up, getting it nice and warm.
Don't boil it.
It smells so good.
Right?
It smells like cider.
Well, it's a really healthy cider.
Too much sugar.
Please, give it a quick word.
Where's that one little tiny spoonful of sugar?
It actually is not, it's not very sweet, but it does taste sweet.
And I think a lot of it is the cinnamon because it gives you that.
I see what you're doing.
You know, you know, my bean.
I love that.
All right, Laurie, speaking of sugar.
Everyone thinks they need to get their OJ in the winter because they've got so much vitamin C and they're like, you've got to hack on this idea of a different kind of juice.
Well, I worry a lot about sugar with my kids because they want it all the time.
Saying no breaks my heart because they just have these eyes and they cry and everything.
They fight it and I have to stay strong.
So I try to do more vegetable juices and I don't want that to sound scary because I'm not just blending up kale and giving it to my children and be like, eat it, you know.
But so I do add a little bit of fruit to the vegetable to cut the bitterness and then they're not getting all the straight sugar.
But there's an art she uses to actually blend it.
Here's the picture of her blending just recently actually.
Making the vegetables.
Oh my gosh.
It's just a typical day in my life.
It's a day at the office.
Which brings us to the next remedy, which for all of you is free.
It can be done anywhere.
It is yoga.
So Laura's come up with yamuga poses.
You argue it boosts your immunity, which is one of the reasons you do it.
I think it does boost your immunity.
I mean, first of all, circulation, as you know, is incredibly important to a healthy system.
And also, when do we get sick?
We get sick when we are run down, and then it feels like really unfair.
You say, why on top of everything am I getting a cold?
It's like, well, you've created the perfect home for a virus to come in and invade you.
Like, hey, I'm going to stay here for a little while, and you're too worn down to be able to deal with it.
I've never thought about it that way.
It is the model home.
It is the model home.
It is so cold.
Show me some poses.
Daphne, you have to be a little bit more.
So sad that I have to leave it.
I'm overheating from this lovely hot golden milk latte.
I'm going to sit and drink.
You're excused.
Watch you guys.
She's going to watch us while you do it.
Here, Daphne, hold this.
Lie on this.
Oh, okay.
Thank you.
What's the first thing?
First, we're going to start with your past.
I think Daphne wants to participate later.
Just in case.
You know, take notes for after the baby's born.
We'll do it again.
I'll come over anytime.
So the first thing is cat-cow.
So talking about breathing.
You know, one of the things is so important to learn how to breathe properly.
A lot of us breathe in through our mouths.
There's no filtration system through our mouth.
Now that we can gargle water, we're really good at that.
But, you know, our nose has a natural filtration system.
So a lot of people will say, a lot of yogis will say, why would you breathe in through your mouth?
Would you eat through your nose?
Yes.
Yes, that's right.
It makes sense, actually.
It makes sense.
No, you mouth for eating.
Don't flip it.
Don't flip it.
So if you arch your back, you look up.
This is called cow pose.
And then you inhale on a cow pose and then you exhale into cat pose.
And then you inhale into cow pose.
Dwelling and cow, Daphne.
There's no same move.
And then from here, we'll go into our next little sequence, which is you can bend your elbows, and then you can come into cobra pose.
You can also do upward facing dog, which just means that your legs are off the floor.
You're opening your shoulders up, and this is really great to help with congestion.
Now, our last pose is really great for the lymphatic system.
I'm so glad I'm not doing it.
Although, this one you can go do at home when you're not wearing a dress.
And you run and bring your legs up.
So this is actually called Legs Up the Wall.
We don't have a wall here.
It can be a little bit tricky to get close enough to a wall.
So you can always use a chair.
You can do this while you're watching this show.
If you're watching to the show on TV, you can just put your legs up right now.
Aquaphor Spray Revolution 00:09:22
And this is great because it drains your legs and helps with your circulation.
Well, I thank you very much.
Thanks.
We're going to put Elaria's moves online so you can do these moves every single day.
Daphne, my love.
Thank you for coming.
One more month, and I'm another grandchild.
We'll be right back.
I'm always on the hunt to bring you the latest innovative skincare trends that can make your life easier.
Now, for decades, you've turned to your favorite ointment to help you with everything from dry skin, chopped lips, cracked heels, minor burns, rough cuticles.
I mean, the list goes on and on.
And for more than 90 years, Aquaphor's healing ointments have been go-to skincare products.
But now, for the very first time ever, my trusted sponsorship partner, Aquaphor, is introducing a brand new innovation.
And watch this.
It's making its debut on my TV show, Aquaphor Ointment Body Spray.
It's Aquaphor that you can spray.
You all know how that works.
I mean, how do you get ointment into a spray?
So I brought in board-certified dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, who's here on behalf of my trusted sponsorship partner, Aquaphor, to tell us more.
So tell us why you like this product.
Why are you going to recommend it to all your patients?
So, Dr. Oz, I am really excited about this product because it is Aquaphor Spray, and I think it is going to be a game changer when it comes to dry skin.
Because the way it's delivered, it delivers in a fine mist that you can cover large areas of dry skin very quickly, and it's easy to use.
I've already started giving samples to my friends, family, staff, and everybody absolutely loves it.
So, I'm definitely going to be recommending it to my patients with dry skin.
And I think it's going to be a really nice compliment to some of the Aquaphor products are already using on their cuticles, on their heels.
But this covers wide areas at the same time.
Well, my staff have stolen all my samples, so please demonstrate how you actually should apply the ointment.
It's very easy to use.
You give it a little shake, and then you get this beautiful, even, consistent mist.
It's really easy to use.
But like any spray product, you don't want to spray it directly into your face.
You don't want to inhale it.
Right, it's not eating the stuff.
Right.
But what are the advantages of using a sprayable product like Aquaphor?
So there are a few advantages here.
Number one is it's quick.
So literally, you can cover almost the entire body in less than a minute.
But it's also convenient.
You can spray it upside down.
You can get your back by yourself.
And there are so many people with really dry skin on their back, it gets uncomfortable.
But also, it has no fragrance, it's preservative-free, no parabens, anything like that.
So it's great for sensitive skin, it's great for kids.
That's why I see why dermatologists love it.
So there's different ways you can apply Aquaphor.
We've talked about the usual ointment that we use.
Right.
The spray changes the feel, but also how it works.
And it also allows you now to use in place of creams and lotions that are traditionally used.
Absolutely.
So compare those for me.
So the difference here is: so, although creams and lotions can moisturize the skin, this is a spray ointment.
And an ointment is oil-based.
It's going to lock in moisture all day long.
So that's key.
So now we're getting the strength of an ointment all day with the convenience of a spray.
It's quick.
Quick, which is an operative word for so many folks.
You need the skin protection, but it can't take a long time.
So I wanted to test this out with some of you, some of our viewers.
So we gave some of you the brand new Aquaphor spray to see how easily and quickly they can moisturize their skin every day.
You're not going to believe this.
Take a look.
We asked seven busy women to try out Aquaphor's new ointment body spray for seven days.
How did it fit into their lives?
It goes on so easy and it covers my entire body.
I spray it on one and it lasts all day.
Makes my skin feel so soft.
My favorite part about this bottle is how I can spray it upside down because it lets me get to all those hard to reach places.
And my hands don't feel sticky.
I can just go right back to typing.
My skin feels smooth.
And this is easy to use, especially when you're on the go like I am.
Still moisturized.
Didn't even have to apply it night.
Now all seven of those women are here today in our studio.
Where Shannon and Tanika.
Shannon?
Oh, there you are right there.
So next to me.
All right, so Shannon, I'm going to show you a photo that you took yourself of your arm before you started this whole little experiment, right?
And this is, again, before you started using the Aquifor Ointment body spray.
So describe what your skin felt like in that photo.
My skin just felt very dry and scaly and I was embarrassed sometimes to wear short sleeve shirts because I would think that people were looking at my arms and so you're like carrying all this stuff and then you're like, oh, everyone's gonna see my arms.
So I would put long sleeves on all the time because I was embarrassed.
People thought you were cold.
It's uncomfortable.
Checking your thyroid.
It turns out it was the dry skin.
So I'm going to show everyone a photo of what your arms look like now, which is pretty cool.
I mean, that's unbelievable.
How do they feel?
They feel great.
My skin feels happy, I think.
It feels moisturized.
It was just something that was really easy to do.
I'm a very busy working mother, so trying to find something that's quick and easy and lasts all day was something that was really awesome.
You know what I like?
She's wearing short sleeves.
Right.
It's a sign.
It's a sign.
All right, Shannon.
How was it different using the spray ointment than what you were using before?
Well, I feel like a major part of my dry skin problems were because I was originally from the South and living in the Northeast.
The climate change was different.
And also, I have well water, so I felt like I was putting lotion on all the time, just trying to keep my skin moisturized.
And with this product, I could just spray it, you know, very evenly, rub it in, and didn't have to do anything else after that.
So the other products, lots and lots of lotion, just easy and all that.
It's what you were saying.
Make sure you use it, folks.
All day.
Finica, this is what your legs look like before you started using the Aquaphor ointment body spray.
And this is them now.
I don't know how they got the ointment into the spray, but it is definitely working.
So when you see these photos, let's go through your mind.
Dr. Oz, what goes through my mind is the picture before my legs were itchy.
They were very scaly.
They were, you could see the ashiness from afar.
And the difference now is that they are so smooth.
They are shiny.
They feel great.
So that really made a difference.
So the leg looks great now.
One time my husband looked, he's like, did you put anything on your leg today?
So, you know, this product now, you can't even tell that.
If your man is noticing it, that's pretty, pretty cool.
Is that what you like the most about the whole experience?
Yes.
Now he looks at my legs like, oh, okay, legs are beautiful.
So I love it.
And when do you apply it?
As soon as I get out the shower, I just apply it right on, just spray it right on.
After I dry off, I just take it, spray it, and I'm good.
So nearly 70% of women tell us that they perceive themselves as having dry skin.
So could this be the tool, the product that dermatologists might actually be able to crack that big number with?
Right.
So as a dermatologist, as a skin doctor, my hope, what I'm trying to do, is to deliver healthy, feeling, healthy-looking skin.
But you know, you're not going to get results like that unless you're consistent with a product.
And I can make all the recommendations in the world, but if you don't like the product, you're not going to use it, whether it's too greasy or you don't like the smell or quite frankly, you just don't have any time.
But that's where the Aquaphor ointment spray is different because people are going to really want to use it.
It's easy, it's very effective, and you can, it's great.
It feels good on the skin.
So now I know if I make the recommendation, you're actually going to use it and you're going to get the results that I want you to get.
And that makes my job as a dermatologist a whole lot easier.
All right.
So thanks to our trusted sponsorship, Partner Aquifor, beginning tomorrow at 12 p.m.

And you get a spray.
In fact, your whole audience is getting Aquaphore Ointment body spray.
Enjoy!
Share it with your friends.
We'll be right back.
Halloween is just around the corner, which makes me think, why do we love horror movies so much?
The Brain's Reward Response 00:02:39
Who likes horror movies here?
So what is it that drives us to want to be scared?
Over the last 15 years, the Saw movies have been the highest-grossing horror movie franchise in the world.
And now a new installment, the newest one, is hitting the theaters.
It's called Jigsaw, starring Tobin Bell and one other familiar face, my own daughter, Arabella.
The blood under the fingernails of our victim, John Kramer, the jigsaw killer.
That's impossible.
Oh, it's scary.
Please welcome Tobin Bell and Arabella Oz.
Hi, honey.
Hi.
Tobin, it's a pleasure to meet you.
Thank you very much.
It's lovely to be here.
Is it as scary when you're making him as it appears to us?
I mean, it just sends chills down our spines.
And the blood splattering everywhere.
Yeah, well, it's, but we know it's, I lay in a pool of blood for 12 days in Sol 1, so I'm used to the blood.
That doesn't bother me.
Arabella, honest question.
It's a question I wanted to ask you.
That's why you're here.
Which is scarier?
The movie or getting life advice from me?
I think I'll take the blood and guts, because I know how that happens.
You're still a mystery to me.
She says I'm too clingy.
That's what I hear from my daughter.
I can't get her to come home.
She cares a lot.
I care a lot.
So we want to see the science behind why we love horror movies so much.
So I did some homework because I've never watched a lot of horror, but I know folks adore it.
So it has to do with the fight or flight response.
And I built you guys a brain.
Don't move.
There it is.
Now, this brain is remarkable.
There's an energy jolt that stimulates the reward pathways in the brain.
So spin the brain around.
And when we do that, I'll take you right inside to the middle of the brain with the reptilian center, right?
This is where the dopamine right there is released.
And that dopamine, that little green area, when it releases it, it stimulates you.
And neurons from the nerves travel to the front part of the brain where I am, the front part of your head right here.
That's the prefrontal cortex where all the executive decisions are made.
This part of your brain begins to learn to associate horror movies with good feelings, paradoxically.
So you want to watch more of them.
Guys, it's like this.
Imagine that you're running away from a bear and a lot of fear there.
This is like being attacked by that bear, but when you watch a scary movie, you're never really in danger.
It's only Tobin over here, right?
Which is not as bad as a bear.
No, no.
