Time Text
We told you about Greek yogurt, coconut oil.
We even gave you kale.
But get ready because your supermarket carton will never be the same.
The ultimate 2018 supermarket shopping list.
The foods you'll be eating all year.
That's what cuts the belly fat.
Then it's fresh restarts your body desperately needs the 10 minute workout.
Drop and press.
And the clean skin restart.
Coming up next.
Oh, oh, oh.
Are you ready to say some lives today?
I love you, Dr. Alright now.
We brought you Greek yogurt.
Y'all remember that, right?
And then there was coconut oil.
And we even gave you kale way back at the beginning of the show.
Most of you never heard of it.
Supermarket foods that you learned about the first time on the show.
But get ready because today your supermarket cart will never be the same.
Ooh, elegant.
We have combed the stores, analyze new food products, and spoke to top experts.
And today we are revealing the ultimate 2018 supermarket shopping list.
And it is full of exciting foods that will supercharge your energy and taste blood.
I'm glad you're excited because I sure am.
Now, starting at the very top of that list, there's a new fat that my nutritionist and chef friends are obsessed with.
Not only for its versatility, but here's what they I think say will get your attention.
They say it can even fight off belly fat.
That's what they're saying.
Now, avocado oil is what I'm talking about.
You're gonna fall in love with this heart healthy fat.
Nutritionist Kellyanne Petrucci is here.
She's always got her finger on the pulse of the hottest health foods.
She taught me about the paleo diet before it was super trendy, and you all heard about it.
Also, Chef Robli Ali, the cool guy, who's taught me about delicious flavors that I haven't, yeah, I didn't know they've even existed.
So I want coconut oil, just move over a little bit.
Everyone ought to try avocado oil, even if you're an avocado hater.
So this is heart healthy, this avocado oil.
You're a nutritionist.
Why are you so hot on this?
Well, for what you said, for one thing, belly fat, anything that help helps belly fat, I absolutely love, and this does.
How does it do that?
It has monounsaturated and oleic fatty acids in there.
That's what cuts the belly fat.
So when you have the actual oil, you're using the fruit of the avocado, not the seed.
And that's where all the good stuff is in there.
All the good stuff in there to help fight belly fat, and guess what?
It's a heart healthy oil, different from a lot of those other oils out there.
So avocado oil, uh and it's all foods we've been talking about today, by the way, will all be part of my Pegan 365 plan.
That's a plan that so many of you are on having a good time with, but these are just additives to that plan.
You can find it all on my website.
So this oil is a secret weapon that you are good can boost the nutritional value of so many of the foods that we otherwise would sort of meander through.
Yeah, how's this?
It boosts carotenoids 15 times.
So drizzle just a little bit on, and you are increasing the alpha carotenoids, the beta carotenoids, and the lutein right in there.
15 minutes.
Just because the body absorbs them better.
Absorbs it better.
And Chef Roblet, food.
It has to taste good.
Food, yes, it has to taste goodness.
Okay, so this stuff is extremely, it's ultra versatile.
You know, it's it's it's good uh on cold applications, uh like in the salad.
So, like right here, we have an avocado oil baked salmon, and I made a vinaigrette out of avocado oil and a little bit of white balsamic vinaigrette.
Is it getting traction among the chefs?
Yes, yes, it's it's it's all the rage, right?
So, I mean, super easy.
Just drizzle a little bit on top of your salad.
We got some shaved carrots in there, you know.
One is tasty super tasty.
It doesn't it doesn't taste too strong.
No, it has a very light avocado flavor.
Yeah, right.
Beautiful.
Right.
I mean, because I said earlier, if you don't like avocados, this may still work for you.
I don't taste the avocado that much at all.
No, just a little hint.
Then it's good in hot applications.
You know, you can saute with it, you can stir-fry.
It has a really high smoke point.
It's like I believe 520 degrees.
So you can grill with this stuff.
Again, you could sear, stir-fry, any kind of hot.
Why is that important for this fat?
Okay, well, all different fats at certain points they start to smoke, and when it starts to smoke, the nutrients start to break down like the good stuff starts to go as it smokes.
And this one has a very high smoke point, which means you're gonna cook your food and you're gonna retain all of the Nutrients to you know keep things healthier and to you know retain all that good stuff that she was just talking about.
I love when we discover these secrets.
But I want to put you to the test, Chef Roblo.
Okay.
I've got two bike club members here.
I want to see what they have.
Lisa, describe the taste of avocado oil.
The avocado oil has a really clean and buttery taste.
And the texture is so smooth.
So good.
And Kate, now you're you're apparently, but I'm told you're a big coconut oil fan.
I ate that.
That's what's been the big rage of late.
There's some reasons why I think avocado oil might be the right switch out.
I'm 100% switching because, like Chef said, I can use it in both hot and cold applications, and it doesn't really change the flavor of the dish.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
The coconut oil, which I love, it's gonna make everything taste coconut y and I don't always want that.
Like this is like exotic taste.
But the other thing is coconut always got a lot of saturated fat, which I'm gonna come back to.
Which you get, you know, but that but let me talk about avocados.
Fats are a part of the puzzle for anyone trying to lose weight.
Yeah.
So this is have this more or less calories than the other fats, so it gets compared to to the olive oil Chef Robet keeps talking about.
The coconut oil that we can't like the same.
They all nestle around 120 per tablespoon.
So we're we're good with this.
Yeah, but it doesn't have a saturated fat.
Right.
That's why I think if you want to make the switch, not just for taste, but for health, it's a why why have you have a headache?
We know people are worried about saturated fats.
This gets you all the benefits without any of those.
So I think I say check it out, give it a shot.
And just like coconut oil, avocado oil can be used all over the place.
In fact, it can be used outside the kitchen.
Take a look at this.
Hi, Dr. Oz, my name is Elizabeth Redas, and recently I've been dealing with a little more acne that I'm used to, as well as some dry patches right around my nose area.
So I decided to go online to do some quick research to see if I could find a natural remedy for some of those issues.
And sure enough, avocado oil came up.
So I decided to give it a try as soon as I got it.
I put it on right before I went to bed last night, and it went on super easily.
It was lightweight and it absorbed very quickly as well.
And in the morning when I woke up, the redness in my pimples had gone down, and those dry patches were now moisturized, and it also made it so that my makeup went on super easily afterwards as well.
So I'm a huge fan, and I've added it to my list of favorite oils, and I look forward to using it every night before I go to bed.
I gotta say her skin looks beautiful.
It does.
What do you look for when you're actually buying avocado oil?
How do you know get the good stuff?
Um, well, you want to make sure that A, if it's organic, you're already you know heading in the right direction there.
Um, and if you're going to use it for like a high heat um that method that I just use it for, you do want to get refined because that raises the smoke point.
But uh, but generally in cold applications, unrefined, and if you're doing organic, you're going the right way.
I would stick like right in there.
Well, you all give it a shot.
Give it a shot.
While you're at it, the next item on my ultimate shopping list is an ingredient that will forever change how you make your smoothies.
It is a mega boost of antioxidants and will up your green intake substantially.
You have never heard of it.
Listen carefully.
Moringa powder.
Am I right?
Have you ever heard of it?
No, I didn't think so.
I had never heard of it.
Moringa powder.
A lot of folks aren't familiar with it.
In fact, no one is.
Explain it to everybody.
Yeah, this is life-changing here.
So much nutrition in this.
This is actually from a tree from Asia or Africa.
And what they do is they take the leaf, they dry it, they make it into this powder, and this powder is the best thing that you can add to a smoothie or shake.
It's got a lot of vitamins in there, it's got vitamin A in there, it's got a lot of C in there, it's got some extra protein in there.
Here's what I really love.
Animal studies are showing us that it can decrease your blood sugar, and it even works really well for cholesterol, as much as some of the prescriptions out there.
It tastes like you know freshly cut grass.
You fall in the fresh grass and you smell that the earthiness of what explain a little bit how it compares nutritionally to all the other greens we're trying to put into our food.
You're gonna love this.
This is mind-blowing because it actually has more protein than kale, twice as much.
And it has twice as much calcium as spinach.
That's big.
Wow.
Chef Roblay, was my description of the taste accurate?
What do you think?
Yeah, yeah, to me, it's like it's like a leafy green extract kind of a flavor.
Like I'm getting like spinach, arugula, and a really cool way that I like to use it is I put a little bit of that into a pesto, which, you know, so now you use pesto?
Yes, you you now you've fortified your pesto with all these, you know, all this good stuff that she was just talking about, you know.
Oh my goodness.
You're sneaking in more nutrition.
You can take that, toss it with some pasta.
You can paint it on top of a piece of baked salmon, like we just did over there.
Yeah.
Super versatile.
And you have these smoothies here.
What are these for?
Um, so like any kind of smoothie, whatever you like, whatever you get at your smoothie shopper at your juice bar, you pop a little bit of that in there, and now you're fortifying again.
It's an easy way to add some more nutrition to something that's already nutritious.
Can you taste it?
Give it a shot here.
Let's go for it.
Let's go.
See if you can taste it.
All right, Chef.
Get in there.
Let's get in there.
Actually, in this is hidden.
You can't even taste it.
Yeah, yeah, it goes right in.
It fits perfectly.
Yes.
All right, the Moringa powder, very versatile.
Up next on the 2018 Ultimate Shopping List, the $5 food finds.
You're gonna want to add to your cart right now.
Stick around.
I saw something that was nothing short of a miracle.
I saw happening.
A new wave of doctors are changing the way we think of that.
Now they say they have messages from heaven that you need to know.
Plus, it's the fourth germiest thing in your home.
All nuance.
That's coming up on Monday.
Today the Ultimate 2018 supermarket shopping list with exciting new health foods that you're gonna be put into your cart this year.
Nutritionist Kelly Anne Fettucci and Chef Roblet Ali are back with the metabolism boosting foods you probably haven't tried before.
Plus, their favorite $5 food finds.
We're gonna start with the next level hot sauce.
It's gonna give your metabolism a smack.
It's gonna light you on fire.
It is called Harissa.
Harissa.
So why is this your new favorite healthy condiment?
Love love.
This is from Tunisia, and it's actually the star condiment there.
They call it the ketchup of North Africa.
It's absolutely delicious.
The ingredients really depends on what you put in the recipe.
A lot of chili peppers, red peppers, a little garlic, things like that.
It's absolutely delicious.
But here's what makes me crazy about this.
This stuff is not only delicious, but guess what?
Zero, zero carbs, and zero sugar.
Don't you love that?
So that's the home run.
So, Chef Robet, describe the taste.
You say it's like ketchup.
Yeah, it's well, not yet.
If if you were to add sugar, it would be ketchupy.
So it's like a non-sugary condiment, right?
It's it's it's very common in North Africa, just like she said.
Um, like I was learning Moroccan cooking, and it's it's like it's their hot sauce.
It's their their chili puree.
It's like imagine like a Chipotle minus the smoke.
It's like that.
That's what I would say.
Chipotle minus a smoke smoke.
That's irisau.
Question is how spicy is it?
Y'all probably wondering that, right?
Moroccan, spicy.
The word ketchup came out, but we're not quite sure it's that because there's no sugar in it.
So I'm gonna put it to the test, the hot test, with two bike club members.
So I've got my ladies here, Gabrielle.
How are you?
I'm good, how are you?
Okay, so give it a shot scale, one to five.
You can put it in there.
That was a lot of measure Harissa's hotness.
I can't say it's very hot.
So I'm gonna give it a five.
A five.
Definitely hot, yeah.
You're not showing on your face.
I'm impressed.
I'm trying to marinate it a little bit.
Look at Gabrielle.
Gabrielle's not so happy, maybe.
You okay?
You want more?
Now I'm all of a sudden hot.
Woo.
It's grown up.
Oh my goodness.
Are you kidding me?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, it's really hot.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
Are you eating the same stuff?
Yes.
It's really hot.
Very hot.
Oh, gosh.
Wow.
Bro, blade, you didn't warm me up.
Do not take a spoonful like this.
Whoa.
Jenny scale, one in the five would you put?
Oh my goodness, I can't talk.
Yeah.
A little goes a long way.
A little bit more than that.
Thanks for telling me that now.
Yes.
Yes.
Three.
All right.
So where would you use this in?
Give me an idea.
Woo, Roblay.
Um, me, um, I like to use it, uh, I like to whip it into scrambled eggs.
A little goes a long way, people.
Uh whip it into scrambled eggs.
I use it to heat up soups.
It's really good in marinades, like in a steak marinade or a chicken marinade.
Great, great fun, easy stuff.
Where do you find this stuff if you do want to get Harissa?
Um, it's actually pretty common.
Like, I'm seeing it pop up in grocery stores all over the place.
It used to be hard to find, but you know.
Seeing it also?
Yeah, in the international food section of the grocery store or the condiment section.
Yeah, and don't take a spoonful like this and put it in your mouth, like Roblay and Bill.
Yes, yes.
A little bit of go.
All right.
Next favorite food under five dollars, uh the Izuki beans.
Right?
They're tiny little bitty food, but big in protein.
Why do you love this so much?
Chef Robe, first, you love the taste of these things.
Oh, yes, they're they're delicious.
Imagine like a gentler red bean or a gentler kidney bean.
They're like in Asia, this is this is like the kidney bean of Asia.
They're everywhere.
They use them in uh all different kinds of desserts.
They make it to like this sweet uh puree, and they'll do like little like empanada style things with them.
All kinds of stuff in in Asia.
They even make an ice cream out of this.
Let me just try to cool my mouth down.
I'm not even listening right now.
So yeah.
Well, nutritionally, why do you like this?
Well, because you know what?
There's 17 grams of protein in this, and that's a whole lot in one cup.
That's about a third of what a woman needs in a day.
Also, this is a lot less expensive than a lot of the other proteins out there, so I like that.
But here's my favorite thing.
They're actually called, are you okay, Dr. Oz?
I'm getting concerned.
They're actually called a weight loss, the weight loss bean because they've got so much fiber in there that they help you lose weight, and they have 29 other nutrients, making them spectacular.
Weight loss bean.
It's called the weight loss bean.
That's great, branding.
Ladies, you can use your napkins.
That actually helped me a lot.
You could please do it.
It worked for there.
We are.
It helps.
You probably can't fit your tongues anymore either.
No, it's still tingling.
Yeah.
Well, just keep once it dries out, it helps a little bit.
Then you just pull really hard as the pain moves from the front to the back of your tongue.
How do you use these zucchie beans, by the way?
What do you puts them on salad on it?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
You can, you don't even have to, I mean, they're readily available now in grocery stores.
So if they're in a can, they're already cooked.
You know, take them, rinse them off, you can pop them in a salad.
There's all kinds of stuff you can do with them.
You can just like heat them up with a little with a little hint of salt.
You know, it's it's it's your new bean.
So I saved something for you guys.
I love the weight loss beans.
Harissa says, though it's hot, I bet you're in the right dose.
It would actually be very valuable.
We wouldn't be suffering right now.
But the next five dollar find is growing in popularity amongst the non-dairy milks, which are big issue.
This is called oat milk.
Oat milk.
So why is it things so hot right now?
Yeah, it's just absolutely absolutely exploding in Europe because it has a really delicious taste, and it's a great alternative to the regular milks out there.
But here's where it really shines.
If you have a nut allergy and can't have almond milk, wow, this is a really great find.
It's got beta glucans in there, which is good for your cholesterol.
And if you buy it per if you purchase it in a store, it's gonna have some little D in there, you know, a little nutrition added.
Describe the taste of this robot.
Um, well, I I actually just got put on this stuff.
Um, it tastes like a really nicely made oatmeal, right?
So like I would love to.
Um I I don't I don't drink milk anymore.
It just doesn't work with my body anymore.
Yep.
So um, like this uh in coffee or in a bowl of cereal or in oatmeal, like it's even more odie, you know.
There's so many things you can do with it.
I love it.
It also cuts the taste of a Rissa.
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
We're gonna put the entire 2018 ultimate shopping list on Dr. Oz.com plus bonus recipes from Kellyanne and Chef Robla.
We'll be right back.
What's the milk?

Jen, come on down.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE I like that picture.
Isn't it nice?
We've all come a long way.
I think it's pretty cool.
We all start somewhere, don't we?
When you see that picture, what does it bring to you?
Uh, I think I just don't realize how um disconnected I was.
I don't think I realized how I wasn't paying attention or connected to my life, and it reminds me of why I fight for this life every day.
God bless you.
I want to be a wig.
But part of your secret, it worked for you, it works for the people you help.
It'll work for audience today, is clean.
Mm-hmm.
How does exercise help clean the insides of your body?
So it's funny.
When I think when you talked to me about clean living the other day, I thought, clean living's about consistency.
Clean living is about building a routine that you can stick with, and you can do that by finding that based on your personality type.
So we got a quiz for you.
Come on up.
Yeah.
Three simple questions.
Who doesn't love a quiz?
Everyone does.
All you gotta do is pay attention to these, you'll find that your exercise type, your clean exercise type.
The first question, audience, you're gonna follow along with me on these.
It's just three.
And everyone at home, same thing.
Keep track whether you're A or B or C. First question: how do you make time to work out?
Be honest with the answers.
Okay, here we go.
Question A or answering.
I like to schedule my workouts ahead of time so I know when I'm going and what I'm doing.
B, I'm very go with the flow and whenever I feel like it.
Some people, that's not you.
Or C, work out, there's never any time.
Okay.
That I hear a lot.
So A, B, or C, we're not judging here, just keep track.
Hold your answer.
Question number two.
What is the ideal training environment?
Okay.
So that's A, I like some healthy competition, whether it's competing against my old times or competing against others.
B. I like that.
You already tell who he is, right?
B, keep it fresh with variety.
I like to try new workouts because I get bored easily.
Or are you C, I find I'm better getting my workout when I'm actually meeting a friend or a personal trainer.
Someone needs to be there to keep me accountable.
Yeah, a little social stuff going on.
Uh-huh.
All right.
Absolutely.
So that's two down, one to go.
Last question is how do you measure the success of a workout?
Listen carefully to the answers.
This is really important.
So again, A, I need data.
I need to feel like there's stats in front of me coming from a monitor or my wristband.
Immediate feedback from the workout is what I need.
Are you B?
Whenever I finish a workout, I always feel good.
So it's always a success.
Or are you C, if I show up, I call it a win.
No matter how good or bad I perform.
How many A's are there out there?
All the A's.
With pride, please.
Yeah.
Hands up.
I'm an A. What's the deal with it A?
What does that mean?
Okay, so my A's are my neat freaks, and I say that endearly.
Okay, in my book, I call you an organized doer.
It's good for surgeons.
It's good for a lot of things, but not for everybody.
So for the A's out there, there's hope for the B's.
Mm-hmm.
My Bs, I love you.
You are my rebels, okay?
You are like free form, figure it out, but full of adventure, but needing variety.
And we call you mess lovers, because we're talking about clean here.
So we're using adjectives to work for clean people.
It's okay.
If you love a mess, you can always clean it up.
My best friend's a mess lover.
She dries her hair out the window on the way to work.
Okay.
You know what I mean?
Like, could you see Oz doing that?
No way.
James D. Ha ha ha ha.
All right.
And for the C's out there.
Show me the C's, the picker uppers.
Okay, I am that person too.
Again in my book, it's called an Everyday Hero.
If you guys put half the energy into yourself that you put into others, you're gonna thrive.
You're gonna do better.
So what happens is you need to kind of prioritize things for yourself like you would for someone else.
All right, here's the deal.
We come back, a customized clean workout plan for your exercise type.

*Cheering*
The rise of STDs.

Stabbed 21 times by the man she met online.

The dark side of online dating.
That's coming up on Tuesday.
*Music*

And we're gonna start it with me.
We're starting with Oz.
To the clean freaks.
What's your prescription?
Well, I mean, here's the reality.
Uh, cycling classes, it's regimented, they're at the same times every day.
You're able to have this immediate feedback in the screen in front of you.
And look at this.
Little friendly competition, right?
Oh, I like that.
We're gonna do it my way though.
Can't hit it.
What?
Oh my goodness.
Oh my goodness!
Okay.
But here's the thing, right?
He's focused, he's dialed in, and what's great about my my knee freaks is that they're able to do a higher volume of work.
Oh, move it up a little bit.
Come on now.
Come on.
Oh, you're good.
Are you?
Is this dating himself so good?
Is that your best Travolta?
So I got this.
I got this going.
But anyway, look at this, guys.
Someone like Oz and the rest of my organized doers out there, you can do this five, six times a week.
You can do it for over 60 minutes.
You thrive in this, so get to it, okay?
Come on now.
10 seconds.
It's hard you can go.
Gosh, I'm ahead of her!
I'm ahead of her!
Woo!
See, the competitive one!
I'm the everyday doer, the everyday hero.
That's why I'm not into the company.
All right, neat freak we got.
Let's move on to the bees.
These are the mess lovers.
Peace is this type.
I'm a little outbreak.
Oh, come on now.
You're talking.
Everyone can just talk.
If someone challenges you, you gotta go for it, right?
Okay.
How are you?
You're a real bee?
I'm ready.
Okay, so these are my mess lovers, my rebels.
What I put together is a kettlebell circuit.
Because the kettlebell swing is not enough.
Not for my rebels.
So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna demonstrate one time through.
It's gonna be a combination.
I'll show you one, Sweetie.
So you're gonna do a swing, pick up into a kettlebell, squat, into a press, right back to home base.
Here we go.
You ready?
So the clean, your clean approach.
Yep, so clean approach, right here, swing.
Oh, I hurt myself.
Drop and press.
And the reason this works, back to your swing, exactly.
Because my rebels want that variety, the challenge.

Kept changing all the time.
Speaking of changing.
Now the last one is actually the picker uppers.
These folks, you say are very social.
But my picker-uppers, you guys slide with other people, right?
You might everyday heroes, you're doing everything for everybody else before yourself.
So that's why I've got this.

You're more likely to meet together than go by yourself.
So Oz and I are gonna work out with you girls and make it happen.
The other thing too, it's a nice little bonus meditation, because you it's kind of like uh you get a little anger out.
You don't seem very angry.
I'm rooting for you.
Okay, so here we go.
Gloves are up, give me a jab.
Oh my goodness.
Go.
Go.

I saw something that was nothing short of a miracle.
All new Oz.
That's coming up on Monday.
Thank you.
It's time for a clean slate or a clean plate.
One of the hottest movements that's sweeping the nation, clean eating to restart your diet.
Wellness expert, author Kathy Freston is here.
Good friend as well.
Because we all been buzzing about clean eating, yet no one really knows how to define it.
So you say it's about three basic things.
Please take it away.
Clean food is just food that's minimal minimally processed, very low in sugar, and it is just high in fiber, right?
So clean food should be food that's easy for your body to digest.
So it's not work, you're it's not working against your body, it's working for your body.
That means you eat the food, your body takes the nutrients and gets rid of the waste.
Seems so simple.
Why does it matter?
Let's show you why you want to have a clean diet to restart your digestion.
So let's say you don't feel your best.
You feel bloated or moody.
Yeah, just sluggish.
You don't feel like you should.
Inside your body might look like this, right?
All those intestines that are supposed to be pink and beautiful, have sludge built up in there, right?
Toxins, waste, all that stuff gets left behind.
When you eat clean, it's like this.
You've got clean food, and then you got fiber.
And it's the fiber that's important.
So the clean food lubricates this stuff up there, right?
So it softens up a tiny bit, and then what happens with the fiber?
Take it away, Kathy.
The fiber.
The fiber just scrubs it out.
And this is your body.
It's just cleaning your body right out.
So you want to look like this on the inside, you'll feel it on the outside.
So Kathy created a clean eating supermarket shopping list.
You can also find it on Dr. Oz.com to help you build a cleaner plate.
By the way, if you're on the Pegan 365, right?
All of these foods.
Everything.
All these foods are on that plant.
So first up, the clean carbs.
Yes.
So define them.
So clean carbs are just things that are grown in the ground or on trees, and they're very simple.
Usually it's just one ingredient, maybe a few ingredients, everything that you would recognize.
And it's loaded with fiber.
Basic rule of thumb, if it comes out of the ground looking the way it looks when you eat it, you can eat it.
So what kinds of clean carbs are talking about?
Okay, let's take a look.
So first of all.
We'll be here all week, guys.
I feel like Vanna White here.
My favorite thing is bean pasta.
Clean, easy to digest, and super full of fiber.
So the second thing is sprouted bread.
Sprouted bread is different than regular bread because it's not white flour.
It's real whole grains that they sprout before they ground it into flour, so it's easier to digest and more protein.
And I love just whole grains, so brown rice and barley.
Super easy.
These are things that you can get anywhere, super inexpensive, very, very clean.
Then we have oats.
Oats, believe it or not, are full of protein.
And they're clean.
I mean, you they they tell you all the time, the Surgeon General tells you you eat your oatmeal, cleans out your heart.
This is like a squeegee for your blood vessels and your intestines.
And chickpeas.
I mean, I think hummus should have its own category personally because I love it so much.
It's it's a bean, it's full of protein, fiber, very, very little fat, and it gives you energy for the whole day.
It's good base to build on little sriracha sauce in there, onions.
We put whatever you want in there, it makes way.
How much are you allowed to eat of these things?
Well, you know, I this is what I love about clean carbs is that you don't have to count calories or grams.
You just basically a fistful.
I wouldn't even count these.
I just eat them and enjoy them because you won't be able to eat too much.
Exactly.
All right, now next up we've got clean proteins.
And this is sort of interesting because proteins, we often think about it in one context, which is how much meat you can fill your plate with.
You have a very different answer.
Well, quinoa.
Quinoa is a miracle food.
A lot of people think it's a grain, but it's actually a seed.
And it is a complete protein.
You've got all your essential amino acids.
You don't have to worry about, you know, complimenting it with anything.
And quinoa tastes delicious.
It's so nutty.
And it's a clean vegan option.
Yeah.
Anyone can have.
And yeah.
You make little meatballs out of them.
Yeah, I put in tempeh, a little bit of onions, garlic, uh, olive oil.
Yeah, super simple.
Is that pasta sauce?
Yeah, a little bit of tomato sauce.
Spice it up a tiny bit as you desire.
Yeah.
Who wants to taste meatless meatballs?
Oh, there's so good.
Let me come over here.
You guys are gonna love.
See, we're about to rush the stage.
Some of you are sort of hesitant about this.
Here, here, you know what?
Here, she's got the food toothpicks.
There we go.
You toothpick them up.
What do you guys think?
They're fantastic.
The texture's phenomenal.
My kids would love these.
I love that there's so much texture and nuttiness, and it really feels good to eat.
They didn't share with you, did they?
No, they did not.
Oh, so rude, so mean.
I trust them with one thing.
Pass the food down and they hog them.
How many meatballs can you eat?
I mean, they're meatless, oh my goodness.
All right, last a clean substitute for dairy.
This is one of the biggest challenges that the audience has, because I I get it.
It tastes good.
It makes everything taste a little better.
It's a good thing.
I agree.
I agree.
That's the hack.
Totally love creamy, delicious, cheesy stuff.
But you know, cheese and cream, they have problems because it's just full of saturated fat, milk, sugar, and um artery clogging stuff.
So this is cashew cream, and it's so easy.
You soak cream.
Cashew cream.
You soak raw cashews overnight.
If you don't have time, soak them for about an hour in warm water.
And then in the morning or after an hour, you dump off the water, put the cashews with some fresh water just a little bit in a very high speed blender, blend it up, and you've got Alfredo sauce.
I know.
You all see this.
And if you put the Alfredo sauce.
And those are the bees.
Yes.
So there you go.
And this is really, I swear, this is about four cashews.
That's all it is.
It's so healthy.
Hold up for a second.
Okay.
I gotta feed this lady back here.
She's gonna be so mad at us otherwise.
I know.
All right, now taste that.
And don't share with anybody.
I had this for lunch.
It is the best hack for Alfredo sauce.
What does it taste like?
Very creamy.
Very delicious.
You go for it, right?
Yummy.
You're not forced yourself to do this, guys.
It makes sense day to day.
You yeah.
It's a first for the show.
I've never had Alfredo sauce on before.
God bless you to be here, Kathy.

Up next, 10 minute deep clean regimens customized for your skin.
Stick around.
Today, the clean prescription restart plan, your body's been asking for for a long time.
So when you look in the mirror, I'm gonna challenge you this.
You may see clean skin, right?
It all looks beautiful.
If you take a closer look, a little magnifying glass action here, right?
You may still see, oh look at that.
Look at those lips.
Ah, there's lipstick and lipstick makeup, it can be left behind.
And look at a close look over here at the skin.
Look at this.
Right?
Dirt and sweat.
Those are your sweat pores.
See the pores over there?
Sweat glands, they're actually clogging up with all the stuff you put on your skin and things you haven't cleaned off it.
So today, we are deep cleaning your skin like never before with a new customized skin regimen just for your skin type that you can do in under 10 minutes.
And we got board-certified dermatologist Dorse Day here to help you clean it all up with the cleanest sensors you all need.
Thanks for being here.
So there's a statistic.
You may not have all seen yet, but I'll make sure you hear it from me.
66% of women, two-thirds of women, do not wash their face at night.
They say it's too complicated.
Well, there is so much to use on the skin.
It's really hard to know what to do.
But the most important first step is to start with a clean face.
Because makeup left on your skin and pollution from the day, which is unavoidable, can do a lot of harm to the skin and can even age your skin.
You don't want that.
So Doris Day, Dr. Day has a 10-minute deep clean regimen that anyone can fit into their schedule, and she's customized all these issues by your skin concerns.
First up, clean regimen for skin prone to acting.
Take a look at Lisa's photo.
Okay.
This is Lisa.
A little bit active there.
She's here in person here.
So how is acting affected your skin, your face, your life?
It's ridiculous.
I'm 45 and I break out like a teenage boy.
And um I put way too much makeup on to cover it up, and I end up looking older at the end of the day.
Well, I think you look very youthful person.
But I know you don't want the acne.
And by the way, none of the women are wearing any makeup, so I appreciate your braveness and honesty for that.
So what's the what's the solution here?
What's the clean skin prone?
So we've made a Himalayan salt, coarse scrub to help clean the face, because Himalayan salt has 84 trace elements that are found in the body.
It'll help remove some of those toxins from the skin.
So I use honey, which is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and you kind of make a thick goop out of it.
Right?
And then you'll just gently apply it to the skin and then just gently exfoliate.
It's not too abrasive or too coarse.
And you can just see it wiping off the bacteria getting into the pores and really, really removing the toxins from the skin.
I don't really like using the word toxins on the skin, but all the elements in the skin and then applying a gentle hydrating moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, you're helping the skin rebalance on its own.
Smells amazing.
Feels okay?
Yeah.
Do the rest.
I'm curious how it's gonna look.
All right.
We'll come back.
It's gonna feel really good.
Keep it out of your hair.
She put it in your hair.
It's terrible.
So mean of her.
All right, next, we got the clean regimen for skin prone to redness.
This is Edith's photo.
There's Edith with a picture of her driving over here.
Dr. Day, what do you do to clean up the skin?
And what when this happens to their skin, how will this address those issues?
So part of redness has to be sometimes it's a condition called rosacea.
So we have prescription medicines work that work, but in the clean ingredients, I look for soy-based products because soy is um anti-inflammatory, anti-redness, and very soothing to the skin.
So I just made a non-foaming cleanser using ingredients like olive oil, or you can use safflower oil and oats ground up very fine to make a very soft cleanser.
And I'll just put a little bit on your skin so you can kind of see what that feels like and what I want the consistency to be.
So this feels nice and soft, right?
It feels great.
So it's hydrating her skin and it's brightening and it's soothing.
And how long till she sees a benefit?
If she does this every day, you can already see a little bit of less redness just from having this on, but it just does take a few days to really have that.
All right.
Enjoy it.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
And finally, a clean regimen for skin prone to wrinkles.
This is Tracy's photo.
Now I have to say I don't see many wrinkles there, but Tracy didn't like them, and I know Chase is like so many of you.
I mean, that don't all skin types have a little bit of wrinkles at some point.
Well, wrinkles are not the enemy, but 90% of how your skin ages is under your control.
It's about sun exposure and lifetime lifetime lifestyle options.
So if you use sunscreen every day, all year round, you will have fewer wrinkles and your skin will look better.
So sunscreen is really, really important.
And being gentle to your skin too.
Tracy, you're only 40.
You should you'll should I could share your age.
Yes.
And I think you look great.
But why are you worried about wrinkles?
Well, because if I don't stop them now, they're just gonna get worse.
For preemptive strike.
Yes.
So what's what's the smart thing for us all to do no matter our age?
So it is important to know one thing is that older is better.
So I kind of think that as we get older, we can look even more beautiful.
And having lines and wrinkles does not necessarily make you less beautiful.
But we want to understand them and understand where they're coming from so we can help direct the underlying source.
And where there's wrinkles, there's also usually sunspots and things that can make the skin look dull.
So I looked for ingredients, honey again, anti-inflammatory soothing, lemon is brightening, and whole milk yogurt has lactic acid, which helps to gently exfoliate and also to brighten.
So you're gonna make this into a mask.
I won't put it on your skin because it's a little bit messy.
You'll leave this on no more than five minutes.
We're gonna start you off here.
Oh, you are?
Yes.
Well, she was she's insisting.
She didn't come here to talk to.
All right.
Well, we go to break, I'm gonna do this all out.
You can eat the leftovers, by the way.
You can.
We're gonna put the complete regimen for all three skin types online.
Doris's new book is called Beyond Beau.
There's a cover of it.
Looks fantastic.
You get lots more of these about these regimens plus new ways to fight Asian skin.
And guess what?
I wrote the endorsement on the back.
That's how much I like with the work that she's doing.
We'll be right back.
Today I've got breaking news.
It's an update on the flu.
They got a frightening headlines popping up all across the country.
Flu related deaths are being reported as record highs in some parts of the U.S. and overwhelming our hospitals.
But what's shocking is who it's affecting this year.
Seemingly healthy individuals, including the 40-year-old mom who liked to run in marathons in California.
And the 10-year-old hockey player in Connecticut.
You've heard these headlines.
This year's flu called H3N2 is one of the most dangerous seasonal flu strains.
And experts fear that things would get worse as February's off to the peak month of activity.
So if you haven't gotten your flu shot, guys, it's time to think about it.
Takes about two weeks to build immunity.
It's not too late because the flu season lasts until May.
So I know it's a needle, I know you don't like it.
You may have heard that this year's shots only about 10% effective.
But we spoke directly to the CDC, called them up, and they say it's closer to 30% here in the United States and North America.
My number one thing to do though, that you and you can all do it right now, it doesn't involve any needles.
You can protect yourself and your loved ones.
Are you ready?
Don't touch.
You don't touch, you don't touch, you don't touch.
It's all about these little fingers of ours.
The average person touches their face three to fifteen times an hour.
Some of us are like this the whole time, right?
Touching your eyes, your nose, your mouth with contaminated fingers, they can spread the tiny infectious droplets from other people and surfaces like this to you.
Because you know, the virus doesn't like to live on our hands, but it can live on these surfaces for a long, long time.
So anytime you're out in public or around people who might be sick, even at home, even at home with people you know around you who you love dearly, don't touch your face until you've washed your hands.
I carry around one of these little hand sanitizers this time of year.
I just pop it in my pot, you know, in my pocket, open it up.
Whenever I've met a group of folks, put some on my hand, and I'm done.
It takes two seconds, nothing to worry about.
If you're gonna wash your hands, remember it's gotta take about 20 seconds with soap and water.
And if you do have the flu, you don't make you do you sneeze into the crook of your arm, like Dracula, right?
You don't want to squeeze into your sneeze into your hands that because that you won't be minimizing spread because you're touching things with those hands.
An unblocked sneeze can travel across the room at 90 miles an hour.
So help out the people.
Give us a break.
Also, use disinfecting wipes like these to clean up your counters, your phones, even the seats on the train this time of year.
And my last strategy don't skimp on sleep.
The studies show that being sleep deprived is associated with a depressed immune system, can even make you more likely to get infected by a virus.
So right now, more than ever, you get your seven hours a night of sleep.
If you do get the flu, remember it's important that you to remember you're contagious for about a week.
So try not to go to work until at least a day after your fever breaks.
Antiviral meds, yes, they work.
They can help shorten the length of the flu for a day or two, and they can help prevent serious complications.
But not everyone needs to go get one.
But the CDC does say that these antiviral meds are effective against this year's strains.
But to be effective, they gotta be taken as soon as possible after the symptoms appear.
So if you have a chronic condition like asthma, or if you're pregnant, if you're over 65, if you're under five years old, those are the high risk groups.
Make sure you see your doc right away.
