| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
What has you spooked about your health this Halloween?
Dr. Oz decodes your cringeworthy...
What does it taste like?
Spine tingling.
Extra body parts.
Hair raising quirks.
Are you normal or nuts?
Plus, Dr. Oz puts your stress to the test.
With a frightening reality, step into a haunted house.
Could you be scared to death?
Coming up next on Dr. Oz...
Do not adjust your set.
This is a special edition of the Dr. Oz Show coming to you from Blood Manor.
We're in New York City's scariest haunted houses.
Today we're going to find out what happens to your body when you're really out of wits, when you're scared or spooked or just plain panicked.
It's also the perfect place to find out whether those weird oddities, those quirks are normal or nuts.
I know this might sound a little weird, but when I'm scared or nervous, I tend to pee in my pants a little.
Is that normal or am I nuts?
No matter what the temperature is, my hands are always sweating.
They're like leaky faucets.
Is this normal or is this nuts?
I really hate birds.
I'm totally petrified.
I can't be near them.
Every week my body starts spasming randomly.
My arms, my legs.
Sometimes I'll smell things that aren't even there.
Am I normal or am I nuts?
Am I normal or nuts?
I love to eat my air wax.
Am I normal or am I nuts?
So, is she normal or not?
Jolana is here in person.
How long have you been eating your earwax?
Well, Dr. Oz, I guess as long as I can remember, but I'll say three.
Since you were three or three years?
Three years old.
And what started this process?
What is it that appeals to you about it?
I don't know.
It's just, it's like, I don't know.
I don't know how to describe it, but it's just any moment.
It's just like when I stick my finger in my ear, I have to put it in my mouth.
Audience, what do you guys think?
Normal or nuts?
Nuts!
Yeah.
They're smart already, but that was sort of a straightforward...
I do think it's a little bit nuts.
You're not nuts, but the action is nuts.
So I actually reached out to audiologist, Dr. Craig Casper, to get some answers about this.
I have to say, this is definitely the first time I've ever heard of this.
But I'm not really concerned about her eating it.
I do, however, have a major concern about her digging in her ear canal constantly to pull out the wax.
This could potentially pose a threat not only to the health of her ear canal, but also it could pose a threat to the eardrum itself.
So we've got our purple gloves on.
Let me show you why Dr. Casper is concerned about all this.
So the ear canal, it's only about an inch long.
So go ahead and demonstrate for me again with this larger model how you might do this.
So there's the ear.
You put it in there.
And off you go.
And that's what you get out.
Now, I blew it up for you.
I took that inch and I made it much larger.
So if you look at the ear in this capacity, you can stand right over here.
You will see a little better.
Now you see this canal actually has a fair amount of action in it.
Now, what ends up happening when you pick at it, is that you're taking the wax that naturally is making its way out, and as it makes its way out, it's collecting dust, it's collecting dirt, the stuff that we don't want to have deep in our ears, and you're getting it on that stuff in your finger.
Plus, your hand is going in there like this, And you're picking at this.
So you see how you scratch it up sometimes?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's not good.
The bigger problem is you get this junk on your hands that you don't want to put in your mouth because it's got all that dirt in there.
And your earwax gets pushed back in there and literally pushes up against the eardrum, which is here.
So it traumatized the ear canal in a way you don't want.
What do you think?
You still going to keep doing it?
You're going to think about stopping?
I would think about stopping.
All right, that's a start today.
Thank you very much, Julana.
I appreciate you being here.
All right, let's hear it from Janelle, who wants to know if an extra body part is normal or nuts.
Let me get my wax off my hands.
Thank you very much, Jelena.
All right, Janelle, extra body part.
Extra body part, yes.
Can you explain what that's about?
I can.
Because you look pretty symmetrical to me.
Well, I thought I was pretty symmetrical too, but when I was pregnant with my firstborn, you know, your breast tissue swells when you're pregnant, and I developed a lump in my armpit.
And I went to see a lactation specialist, and she actually said that it's an extramammary gland in my armpit, that I had a third breast.
So it was about a kiwi-sized lump.
May I do that?
Well, it's gone now.
You know, I have a picture of this, because I actually can't show your breasts on television.
That's okay.
So, this is, again, there's your left shoulder above there, and that little lump there is not supposed to be there.
So, what do you think, audience?
Normal or not?
Normal.
It is normal.
For a lot of reasons.
Come on over.
It's actually fairly common.
It's called a supernumerate nipple.
And let me show you what are they for.
It's interesting, because women have milk lines, just like a lot of mammals, right?
Cats have these, dogs have these.
So you have the regular breast nipples, and then you have extra places, these lines delineate those milk lines, that allow breast tissue to evolve.
So there are a lot of people right now who can hear my voice.
If they look carefully along these lines, they'll find an extra freckle.
It's not only a freckle.
It was the beginning of a breast.
Just the very beginning of it.
And you don't pay attention to it.
Sometimes it grows, sometimes it doesn't.
But all these areas can have breast tissue all the way down into the groin and starting in the axilla.
So it's a pretty common problem.
They're benign.
We generally don't worry about them at all unless You're spilling milk.
Well, if you're spilling milk, at least we know what they are.
But if they change in a meaningful way, so if they grow, if they get a rash, if they form a harder lump, then we get more concerned about them.
But otherwise, you're just well-endowed.
I'm just extra, yes.
So I'll take it.
Extra good.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much.
And next up, a mother-daughter duo, Donna and Brittany, you are the first guests to ever show up on my show barefooted.
Okay.
Well, Dr. Oz, we have webbed toes.
Are we normal or are we nuts?
You do have webbed toes.
Look at this, everybody.
I don't know if you can see that.
This is actually a very interesting change.
They're webbed and it can come in many forms.
Can you all see that?
There are probably people in this audience who are wondering, what are those webbed toes and where they come from?
Does anybody else in the family have webbed toes?
My dad had them.
And my daughter does.
She's four.
Your daughter?
Mm-hmm.
Hers aren't as much as ours, but it's a slight web going on.
There she is.
She has mini webbed toes.
You guys have big-time webbed toes.
What do you think, audience?
Normal or nuts?
Normal.
Without any question, it is normal.
I'll tell you a fascinating thing.
It's something called syndactyly.
The joints sort of come together.
There's actually, when you see these kinds of changes, it's always a clue to us about how we developed in our mother's womb.
I don't know if you've ever seen this, but I've never shown a video of a child developing in a womb before.
I thought I'd take this opportunity with a unique problem we've never talked about to show it to you.
That'd be awesome.
Come on back here.
So, I have an animation of what's going on.
Let's say it's your stomach making your baby.
So, you know, a few years ago.
So down deep inside, the baby's forming.
In the very beginning weeks, it's in the very early stages, and you have basically paddles for hands and feet.
There are paddles.
And so as you evolve over the next few weeks, those paddles will begin to develop, and the toes and the fingers will start to break apart from the surrounding tissues to give you the five digits.
But sometimes, you actually don't break them completely apart, and you leave a little area that's fused.
So do your families, do they swim well?
What are the advantages?
I don't know about advantages, but I know when we go to get pedicures, it's always interesting when they try to put the toe dividers between our toes.
So you know you can actually divide the tissue and separate the toes if you want.
But frankly, it's not a medical problem.
So I don't know.
I would never have surgery to separate something if it's not an issue for you.
Well, we're glad to know we're normal.
Thank you very, very much.
All right, you can explain lots more about these bizarre health quirks, and I'll help you do them if you watch our normal organized videos with Dr. Oz.
Oh, Dr. Oz, excuse me.
Over here.
Oh, come on, come on.
Come over here.
Greetings.
So cool.
This is the Count from Sesame Street.
And do you know why they call me the Count?
Why they call you the Count?
They call me the Count because I love to count things.
Yes.
Yes.
And...
Dr. Oz, yes, I have one, one more question for you.
Please ask, can I say, if I could introduce the Count, and thank you for coming.
I did not know you were coming today.
No.
I earnestly am surprised.
Yes.
But I love Sesame Street, and I grew up, like so many kids watching Sesame Street, and you taught me to count and do lots of other fun things.
So thank you for being here at Count on Count.
Oh, it is my pleasure, Dr. Oz.
Thanks.
Listen, I have something that is a little bit of a question here.
Please.
I have been counting sheep before I go to bed, but counting makes me so excited that I end up staying up all night because I want to count the sheepies.
Am I normal or am I nuts?
I mean, what can I do to catch 40 wings?
What do you guys think?
Is counting and making you excited something that keeps you up at night normal or nuts, audience?
Nuts!
You know what?
Nothing on Sesame Street is nuts to me.
I make you normal.
Because you're super special.
Count.
High-five me.
Ah, yes.
Boom!
You just keep counting all you want, and over time, you'll eventually get tired.
No matter how exciting those things are, over time, you'll still get those 40 winks.
You can count to 40 counts, too.
I hope so.
All right.
You can catch all the counts and all the Sesame Street friends on their 45th season.
Imagine a 40. Can you count to 45, too?
Their 45th season every morning and afternoon on PBS. We'll be right back.
Good to see you.
Good to see you, Count.
Coming up, ghosts and goblins may not be real, but the way our bodies react to fear is a frightening reality.
A haunted house puts your panic to the test.
Learn the tricks to treat the stress.
And keep it from getting too scary.
Next.
The three-day fat flush.
I lost six pounds and I feel amazing.
The Oz-approved shopping list gets you started.
I feel great and I'm ready to go shopping.
It worked for them.
Can it work for you?
That's coming up on Monday.
Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without a haunted house.
From the time of your little kid, it's the epitome of scary.
So I decided to set up a little experiment.
I took my kids and my colleagues from the hospital inside one of New York's scariest haunted houses to see how your body fares in the face of fear.
I recruited four trusted allies.
My daughter Arabella, my son Oliver, and Bonnie and James from my hospital.
And took everyone to the hair-raising haunted house, Blood Manor.
I wanted to see what really happens inside your body when you're being scared half to death.
So I enlisted my med team to measure our blood pressure and blood glucose levels before and after to see how stressed we get while being spooked.
And wrist bracelets to track our heart rate through every terrifying twist and turn inside bloodbath.
It's time to see what we're made out of.
Who wants to go first?
Bonnie?
Tommy!
Alright, I'll go first.
Let the screaming begin.
I'll get up here.
Oliver, you go first.
You go first.
This is a terrible idea.
I don't want to go first.
Dad said he'd go first.
That was the deal!
There's definitely someone scaring me in there.
What are you doing?
You're next to you.
I'm going to be behind you.
Right.
I can't do it!
Man!
It's a creepy room.
Get out of there.
*Screaming* *Screaming*
Ha! It's real!
Alright, you gotta run out.
*Screaming* Ha! Ha! Ha! Help!
Help!
We come out!
Get this on your face!
In 3D glasses!
Who wants to go first?
You!
I'll go first.
We're going to kill you!
That is a terrible rule!
Oh, it's a terrible room.
Exit, exit.
We raced out to immediately check our levels.
Doctor, you look terrified.
How was it for you guys?
I was terrified.
My heart was beating through my chest.
It wasn't that bad for me.
Maybe just a little bit.
So my daughter Arabella is here, along with my colleagues from the hospital, Bonnie and James.
Arabella, was the anticipation more difficult, or actually going through the experience of the haunted house?
The anticipation was more difficult, and my imagination was way worse than what happened, but what I anticipated made what happened even worse.
And they would sneak up on you and they'd chop at you and cut at you.
So, Bonnie, you're a critical care nurse.
I trust you with my sickest patients.
You deal with crises all the time.
How does the stress of taking care of my patients in the ICU compare the stress of being in that haunted house?
Well, this experience was the unknown.
I was stressed out before I went in.
I had a dry mouth.
I got hot.
And then when I walk into this place and there's monsters jumping out of walls and floors.
This wasn't fun.
And Jimmy, I heard you scream like a girl.
Have you ever been spooked like that before?
Me scream like a girl?
I heard the scream and turned around and figured it was my duty to protect Arabella, only to turn around and realize it was you!
He has always protected me for years in the operating room.
He runs the heart-lung machines for us.
All right, let's walk over here.
We're going to check our glucose levels.
That was part of the testing.
Jimmy, leave it away.
You always do.
So, I'll run ahead here.
So, the thing about the blood sugar, and I never thought about it.
This is the part that surprised me the most.
You can line up right here.
We'll go through the same exercise.
Blood sugar levels are supposed to normally go down if you're not eating.
So, when we started the experiment, we checked all our numbers, and we're all normal.
That way we need to be.
We didn't eat after that, so our blood sugar should have gone down.
I didn't expect with this big-time experiment to identify this, but that's not what happened to us.
Arabella, you had a 20-point increase in your blood sugar.
It really went up fat.
Frankly, mine went up 13 points.
Oliver's went up that much as well.
Bonnie and Jimmy, you guys didn't change that much.
I don't know, maybe you're still numb to the pain of stress.
But Arabella, what normally happens when you get stressed out?
Well, you know, I think I've always had acne problems, and I think my skin reacts when I'm stressed out.
I just break out, and I definitely stress eat.
Both.
Yeah, I think those are...
So you see things on the outside, or your behavior changes.
What I'm pointing out now is something that's happening on our inside that I didn't appreciate.
When you have stress, you release hormones, the stress hormones, and they actually drive your blood sugar up, which might actually cause the craving.
And some people will probably get stressed out more than others, but you look inside what happens in a scary house, and now you know what happens.
So what we saw in that haunted house is not real, obviously, but it does show that what happens in our body when we react to stress, when we're scared to death, to other things that happen that mess us up a little bit, can have profound impacts on our body.
So even if you don't feel stressed, your body might feel otherwise.
And there's one other part of your body that's affected by stress, especially if you're scared.
Part of that fight-or-flight response is to have a bowel movement.
So just before going into a haunted house next time, go to the bathroom first.
You got that?
We'll be right back.
Next.
We all know, cut calories, lose weight.
But how do you do it and not feel deprived?
Biggest Loser star Dolvett Quince shares his tricks to cut calories and trim fat while still eating the foods you love.
The most basic way to lose weight is this last calories.
That's diet 101. But knowing where to cut your calories is the question.
So today, here with the ultimate calorie tricks, is author and trainer on The Biggest Loser, Dolbeck Quits.
You're also a good friend.
So explain to everybody, how is it possible to cut back calories but still enjoy life and not struggle all the time?
You know, I love that word, cut back calories.
Often times people think they have to be extreme.
You don't have to be.
You just have to make swaps and changes.
Small swaps will change your entire life.
Little nudges.
Little nudges.
You guys like that?
Pretty good idea.
Just to this point, you cut out 100 calories a day, just 100 calories, you will lose 10 pounds at the end of the year.
I think that's a pretty good deal.
That's good to know.
And it's just, again, not asking a lot, and we're going to give you a lot more ways of cutting just 100 calories.
So we asked our viewer, Christina, to keep a calorie log, and we had Delvette look through her log to see how she was consuming her calories.
So was it hard or easy to log those calories?
It was pretty easy.
Not bad at all.
Not bad at all.
Okay, so what's a typical breakfast that you might have?
Well, as you can tell by my physique, I love carbs.
I love cereal with 2% milk.
I love bagel, cream cheese, typically is my go-to breakfast.
Bagel, cream cheese.
Yeah.
So about easiest ways to cut calories for breakfast.
And let's just take a typical breakfast.
You're a bagel and cream cheese woman.
I am.
But I'm a cereal guy, and I think I'm probably the majority.
That's what we sort of grab for in the morning, because it's right there.
So what would you do?
I would do a swap.
Instead of doing this milk or even a 2% milk where people think they're saving, go for almond milk.
Almond milk, this will enable you to save 60 calories.
Oh, wow.
That's huge.
Without changing the experience, really.
It's cereal.
You're putting weight stuff in it.
Yeah, right.
It tastes pretty similar.
It tastes good.
It's added protein to your morning.
It's a great way to start.
Okay.
All right.
Lunch comes around.
All right.
Typical thing you might have for lunch.
What's your weakness?
Sandwiches.
I love turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, any type of sandwich.
It feels good.
Yeah.
Gotta keep it moving throughout the day.
You know, I'm a busy woman, so...
No, but how do we help out here?
Instead of using the two slices of bread, I'm also a sandwich person.
I love sandwiches in the afternoon.
Swap it out with this butter lettuce.
Now you're getting that fiber as well as taking away the calories.
You're gonna cut back about 80 calories on this.
Now notice, notice, there is a piece of bread underneath there, right?
You're building the whole foundation of your meal still on a piece of bread.
You're still getting the carb.
You're getting that energy, but you're getting more protein than that.
Okay, all right.
Should be satisfying.
Most people don't think about these small little changes.
Again, I'm not taking much away from you, but they do add up.
So that's, again, 80 more calories.
Next, the afternoon slump.
Audience, who here needs their afternoon snack?
Anybody?
Yeah.
I thought so.
When do you consume most of your calories?
Typically in the afternoon.
I work in a doctor's office, so it's always somebody's birthday, so pastries, donuts, you name it, cookies, chips, chips and dip.
All the snacks you have to kill.
Yep, absolutely.
Build that.
Some people just cannot get away from the snacks that sneak up on them from behind.
What do you recommend?
You know what?
A lot of people do these empty calories, which are stuff like this potato chips.
You know, I wrote in my book about doing spinach chips instead.
Taking a cookie sheet.
It's very, very good.
Seasoning it with some light seasonings, low sodium seasoning.
It's very good.
It's nice.
Get the same crunch, but you get a lot of fiber, a lot of good energy throughout the day.
No empty calories there.
And you cut about 75 calories when you eat this versus this.
Wow, that's very good.
You don't have to use spinach, you can use kale, whatever you want.
You've got some green stuff on your team.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
It always works.
That's why people don't eat green stuff.
Alright, it's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
It always is.
You all like a glass of wine, I can tell that already.
I saw your log, and this was a sort of surprising reality that Robert was kind enough not to mention.
We might do an intervention later on if it comes to it.
Oh, I'm spanking hands now.
So, what can we do that still enjoy a cocktail, which is relaxing, is part of our culture, but not pour on the calories?
There's a couple things you can do.
Instead of filling up your glass here all the way with a red wine, if you want a midday or an evening cocktail, half.
Do half instead.
You're cutting back the calories.
Or, here's a trick, add club soda.
Oh.
This is the real trip.
I know you're not drinking half the wine.
That's not a nudge, it's a slap.
But this looks the same, it feels the same.
I just want you to taste this.
And see if you like it.
I do the same thing for soft drinks too.
All my buddies who have to have their soft drinks, just cut it with carbonated beverage, club soda.
Very good.
It's not bad, right?
Very good.
It hits the spot, and what's the benefit?
63 calories you're saving on this.
That's huge, right?
And no one's going to know, and I actually think this tickles your palate a little bit more.
All right, finally, dinner.
When all you want to do is eat.
I mean, how hungry are you by dinner time?
I'm starving.
I had a busy day, running around with the kids, work, job, everything, you know?
And then you continue probably eating even through dinner, after dinner, right until bedtime.
Right, right.
That's actually where we sabotage ourselves a lot of times.
So I bet you had a good answer, cutting calories at dinner.
You know, a great way to cut calories at dinner is, you know, you're eating a meal like this.
Instead of using the sour cream, which are packed in calories, do Greek yogurt instead.
It's the same texture.
Again, you're adding protein with your protein and you get a bigger benefit.
Okay.
Not to mention, you're saving 80 calories here.
80. So, time for the big results.
We looked at DelVette's tips.
Again, my plea was to get 100 calories out of your diet.
Let's see if we got those.
Yeah, I think we did.
How many calories did we cut?
Let's run the machine.
It is 358 calories.
Now, you don't have to make all those changes at once.
No, no, that's the thing.
You don't have to make it all at once.
You can do it once or twice during your week.
You know, just stretch it out, you know?
And then I'll get arms like yours?
You'll get arms better than mine.
Make what you like the most.
Make it part of your routine.
You'll be there.
For more on Dolvett's dieting and fitness advice, you can go to dros.com and you can catch him on The Biggest Loser Thursdays, 8 p.m.
on NBC. I'll be right back.
Coming up, what's the secret to looking younger?
Your biggest aging concerns are answered today.
Actress Niecy Nash helps reveal the best anti-aging secrets.
They're easy on your wallet and found in any drugstore.
Next.
The three day fat flush.
I lost six pounds and I feel amazing.
The Oz approved shopping list gets you started.
I feel great and I'm ready to go shopping.
It worked for them.
Can it work for you?
That's coming up on Monday.
It's the question that I hear most from women.
What's the secret to looking younger?
Well, today, we're cracking the code and revealing the best anti-aging secrets to share with your girlfriends.
So here to help is my timelessly funny and beautiful friend, Nisi Nash, star of HBO's hit show, Getting On.
Where are you going?
What is going on back here?
He might have had a heart attack.
Don, get his ass to the ER! Let me take off your shoes.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Let me take your post.
Yes, I know, I realize.
Yes, I'm very close.
Stop it!
Stop acting like a big old baby!
Please welcome Nisi Nash.
You do look beautiful.
Hey, Adam.
Hi, how are you?
This is a really exciting moment because the last time I saw Nisi, she had not yet joined the medical community, but now you're a full-fledged member.
Now I'm a full-fledged member.
Yes, I am.
And let me tell you, with my job on getting on, to play a nurse, you know, and I'm thinking, okay, well, I'll just show up and I'll read the script.
No.
Two weeks worth of medical boot camp where we had to go on rounds with real nurses.
We had to serve in hospice.
We served the elderly.
We had to learn how to do all sorts of medical procedures.
Like, HBO was not playing around.
No, they're not.
And so I thought I'd just quiz you a little bit.
Here's a stethoscope.
Uh-oh.
Here's a blood pressure cuff.
Let me see how you're doing.
Here's my arm.
Let me get you together.
All right, let's see what we're going on here.
See, because in my real-life boot camp, we had to learn how to do this, you see.
Uh-huh.
And here's what I'm going to tell you about...
Here's what I'm going to tell you about your equipment.
This is old.
Because new school, you have that automatic cuff where it just automatically squeezes your...
What's happening with your blood pressure?
Listen, you might be...
This is not coming...
What's wrong with this equipment?
But first of all, you got to tighten it up here.
Oh, yes.
See, there we go.
And then you need a telescope in your ears.
To hear you.
To make sure everything is happening.
This is not looking good.
You know what?
I'm going to let you up talk.
Are you going to let me off the hook?
That was well done, though.
I didn't know they put you in boot camp, though.
That was good.
Yes, they put us in boot camp.
And here's the thing about it.
It was very, very intense.
And HBO was like, not a lot of glamorous hair, no makeup, no spank.
Who does that to a girl?
That's what I want to know.
Nobody.
But here's the thing that gets me.
You look so beautiful.
I've known you for a long time.
Oh, thank you!
I wanted to show you all what I'm talking about.
You know, we people, we say that all the time, but this is actually the truth.
Here are three pictures from the last decade.
Where did you scratch those up?
There are lots more I can go for.
I mean, you never age.
How do you do it?
What is the secret to your anti-aging approach?
Well, there are two things.
One, lots of sex.
Ooh.
Well...
Oh, my.
Um, I'm very married and very happy.
And so, you know, you know, it's gonna keep your cheeks a little flushed and it's gonna give you a little extra zhuzh when you're moving around.
But the other thing is I buy over-the-counter.
I'm a drugstore girl when it comes to what we put on the face.
So you've offered to help us share some anti-aging secrets with the audience.
You all into this?
All right.
I've got Ro and Betsy.
They're gonna help test them out with us.
So these are real women from our audience who are gonna work through some.
How real women?
How are you?
So, Ro, what's your biggest concern with these aging issues?
Oh, goodness.
Wrinkles.
Lots of wrinkles, hanging skin, and my lips.
I feel like they're getting deflated each time.
Well, let's tackle this one at a time, because we're going to get overwhelmed otherwise.
So, we're doing a whole lot of aging issues here.
Nisi, start off with something that I used to say works, because there's no wrinkles here, if you notice, by the way.
She says she uses tea tree oil combined with vitamin E. So, walk us through what you do.
Well, you know what I usually do?
I find a cleanser that I like.
After I wash my face, I use the tea tree oil first.
Looks like this.
Yes, I use the tea.
Show them how to do it.
Yep, I just take the tea.
Come on, roll, Betsy.
Put your tubes out there.
I take the tea tree oil.
I put a few drops.
I take that like that.
I rub it in.
Betsy, you got to do it.
Bro, do it.
Can we try this?
Yeah, try it.
Don't put it by your eyes, though.
Okay.
Because it's a little minty.
It's a little spicy there.
Let's try some on you.
I rub that in.
No, and then after that...
Just a few drops you put on there?
I just put a few drops, I rub that in, and then after that, I use the vitamin E oil.
Yeah, I use the vitamin E oil, few drops of that, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, because that's that moisturizer.
And that's what I go with.
Yeah.
A couple words on tea tree oil.
It's interesting you picked that out because it's antiseptic.
So it kills off the bacteria, which we know is associated with some of the crazy things that happen to our skin.
And the vitamin E is a strong antioxidant.
So it makes perfect sense.
Between that and a lot of sex, y'all have to go out.
Yeah, you got nothing to lose.
You got nothing to lose.
All right.
Now, you also mentioned thinning lips.
Thinning lips.
Very common.
A lot of girlfriends want to know tips to this.
Lips are very thin, right?
But the layer on top, which is the part that keeps them moist, that's the thinnest part.
And as we get a little bit older, no matter how much sex we're having, that's going to thin out so much that your lips won't look quite as full as they used to look.
So Nisi, I want you to be honest with me.
You have those beautiful lips right now.
Do they ever get dried out?
Sometimes they do get dry, and I actually have a little, you know, and I don't even know where I got it from, but it's lasted me a really long time.
It's a little scrub sometimes just to take the dead skin off and give them a little, you know.
You scrub a homemade one?
Well, no, you know what?
I don't even know what that one is because I just have a little bitty...
I don't even know where I got it from.
Can I give you my version of it?
I want to see it.
Alright, so here's how you do it.
I put it in front of...
Everyone, please try this out.
You can use the mirrors.
I want to see how you actually apply.
This is a honey and brown sugar scrub.
You create the mixture.
You put two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoonful of brown sugar, mix them up like this.
And when you put them on your lips, on your lips...
Can I put this on my face, too?
You can put it, it's designed for your lips.
You can put it anywhere you want to put it.
Well, you know I'm not getting ready to mess up this pretty lipstick right now.
No, I know.
They look pretty darn good to me.
And so as you put them on there, it stimulates the collagen, the top layer of the lips to start growing.
And that's important because that will pull that coating together that you want to have.
Allow those lips to maintain that nice, robust coloring so you can do all the things you want to do in life.
Okay, well, you will end up having sex because you taste like a cookie.
This tastes just like a cookie.
So you will taste delicious, ladies, after you do this.
All right.
You don't have too much.
Are you going to tell your girlfriends in Hollywood about this?
You know what I am.
I'm telling them right now if they're watching.
This is the secret right here.
Yes.
All right.
You guys have been a blast to have on.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Love you.
All right.
I want to thank all the ladies.

coming up gas bloat constipation No matter what you try, you can never make that stomach pain go away.
Tackle the symptoms and detox your body.
The easy gut flush food rules that everyone can follow.
coming up next. - Gas, flow, constipation, Sometimes it seems like no matter what you try, you can never make the stomach pain fully go away.
That was the case with Christina.
She recently came on to our show and took the truth tube and asked for help.
Now she's back.
Let's take a look at how she's been doing.
Remember school teacher Christina?
She was constantly constipated.
None of the things I've tried have worked.
So he called in specialist Dr. Amy Myers to help.
She's a gut flush that everyone can use to take back their digestive health.
Definitely excited for this.
You will keep a poop journal for us.
Yes, yes, I will.
So how's Christina doing today?
When I left the show, I started the recommended detox by eliminating dairy, gluten, soy, corn.
I was given a list of foods that I was allowed to eat.
Spinach, kale, there was fruits, different proteins.
At first, nothing was happening.
But by the end of week two, I was hopeful.
Today is day one, and I went with no trouble.
Day two, and I went!
And for five straight days, things were great.
I was able to go.
Yay!
But then everything stopped.
Unfortunately today hasn't been my day.
I'm not giving up though.
I think part of my problem is that my diet is getting repetitive.
The foods are not changing and it's the same thing over and over again.
So I'm looking for different foods that I can incorporate into my diet.
I don't want to get back up again.
I know I can do this.
Let's get right to the truth, too, because we have some good news to report on Christina.
Now, before the show, and before you started getting a little help from us, you told us you were having roughly two bowel movements a week.
Right.
Sometimes even less.
Yes, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, which is never a pleasant feeling to have.
No.
Your bowel movements since the show, on average, four times a week.
I think it's fabulous.
Yes.
How's that feel?
Very good.
Very good.
Relieved.
Yes.
Happy.
Excited.
So it helps with a little bit of this stuff.
So the good news is you're pooping, which I'm very happy about.
Right.
So I think that part of it was the things we talked about in the last show.
But you might have a problem that a lot of Americans have right now.
We don't talk about much in Western medicine.
Okay.
But people who do functional medicine, look at the root causes for problems.
Dr. Myers does this.
Have other tests they can do.
So they sent the test off.
It's a comprehensive stool test.
And it came back with an absolutely fascinating finding.
Okay.
Okay.
You have candida and bacterial overgrowth in your poop.
So there are things growing in there that aren't supposed to be growing in there.
So I want to try to address that today.
And I also want to address your concern about the fact that you're eating the same food all the time and you want some diversity in diet.
If I could do those two things, we'd be smiling, happy?
Yes, definitely.
Maybe even poop more?
Yes!
So I have been searching, searching, and I think I have the answers.
And Dr. Myers is here to join us.
She's going to walk us through her gut flush food rules.
She's going to help anybody, by the way.
Anybody who's got constipation or bloating, all these things, can help with all of them.
We're going to help you in particular.
Come on over.
Even better.
Dr. Meyers, how are you?
Hi, good.
Good to see you.
So, yeast, can you stay in the middle?
I thought you were going to stay in the middle.
Were you running away?
No, definitely not.
Did you get through the bathroom?
No.
Okay, just asking.
It's possible.
All right, so this issue of yeast overgrowth is a big one.
It is.
It does cause problems for folks.
It's something that, again, we don't acknowledge as widely, but in functional medicine, it's pretty popular.
I see it in virtually almost all of my patients, and a lot of them complaining of the symptoms that you came in with, with the gas and the bloating and the constipation.
So the first food rule is to drink an anti-inflammatory ginger root tea.
If you don't mind, explain what this is to everybody, why it works, and how we would make it.
Yeah, so ginger is very anti-inflammatory here.
We're basically going to be using some ginger, boil it up, add a little lemon for flavor, and some mint to top it off.
Interesting to know.
Give it a taste if you like it.
It's pretty straightforward.
Okay.
It's sort of what you might expect, but without the sugar in it.
And it's, again, the first of several steps we're going to give you.
Oh, it's good.
Okay, Jo, you'll tolerate that.
And it's different from what you've had.
It's really good.
Okay, this next step is important because it's going to address the issue of variability in what you're eating.
It'll also help us with the candida and bacterial overgrowth.
It's to get 50 grams of fiber.
But we want the fiber to come from vegetable sources, not from grains.
Okay.
Please explain why that's so important.
Okay.
So these types of vegetables, which are your cruciferous vegetables, actually contain sulfur and nitrogen, which help to fight the yeast.
Okay.
So that's going to be the most helpful part.
And then we don't want to be eating the grains, particularly gluten, because that easily converts to sugar, which is what Candida and the bacterial overgrowth are going to be feeding on.
Okay.
These are several examples, and if you're bored by these, we have bigger props.
No, these are some of my three favorite recipes that we have.
The first one is a cabbage, spicy cabbage, kale, and sweet onion salad.
There's a lot of anti-inflammatory ginger and curcumin spices and herbs in there as well.
Oh, that's really good.
Isn't it good?
Surprisingly good.
Yeah, it's amazing.
Okay, this is one of my favorites.
I eat this almost every week.
This is cherry roasted Brussels sprouts.
Those are actually my new favorite lately, so I'm excited to make that.
You like Brussels sprouts now?
Mm-hmm.
Oh, I like that.
Yeah.
I had some last night for dinner.
They were amazing.
We have a soup also.
Yeah, we have a broccoli and kale soup, which is super quick, great on a cold day like it is outside right now, and you can just put it in the thermos, take it with you to work.
It's delicious.
Okay.
So that's sort of the one big area.
Again, it's more fiber than I normally recommend.
We normally say get 25 to 30. You're about 25 now.
We're asking just for you to go up a little higher.
But for everybody, we're saying make most of that fiber not from grains but from vegetables.
Okay, next big issue is to cook with coconut.
It's a big gut flush rule.
Why is that?
So coconut is very antifungal, has antiviral properties as well, but there's something in it called caprylic acid, which specifically goes in and pokes holes in the yeast cell wall and is going to help kill that yeast that you have.
Coconut you can use in all different types of forms in the oil and the milk, shredded coconut.
So I love this shrimp.
It is cooked in coconut oil and then also has the coconut flakes on top of it, so it's a coconut shrimp.
And this is another one of my favorites I eat almost every week, which is chicken pad thai, but we do it with spaghetti squash instead of pasta.
And you really cannot even tell the difference.
And it is delicious.
That got the audience excited.
Yeah.
No, it's really good.
And the last little bit here is a ritual you and I are going to get into, and anyone else is having issues with this.
It's a detox shot after dinner.
So here's your shot.
I want you to drink the shot before Dr. Myers explains it.
So as we're drinking, please pray tell explain it.
Okay, so we are squeezing the juice of some garlic, and then...
that good, huh?
Are your eyes watering too?
Okay, hard for me to explain with those expressions.
Definitely recommend that right now!
I'm trying to blow the air out of my ears.
I was going to say, is it killing off everything in your body?
It's really good cold and flu seasons coming up, so this is good for everybody, not just people suffering from candida.
If you survive the shock, the bacteria and viruses won't.
So what's in here?
I can smell the garlic.
So it's garlic.
It's about a tablespoon of garlic.
It has squeezed a half a lemon and then a drop of oil of oregano.
Listen, you're well on your way here.
Yes, definitely.
You're going almost every other day, which means you're no longer of much of a concern to me.
I want you to be more regular.
Not just going every day, but also knowing you're going to go every day.
Right.
Because it'll take a big load off your mind and your intestines.
Yes.
And I think these will get you there.
Plus, what Dr. Myers walked us through and walked everyone to do today is something you can do every single day of your life and mix it up so darn much.
Except for the shot here, which is still poisoning me.
Oh, I know.
Easy to include.
I know.
All these recipes, they're all on dros.com.
You are more than welcome.
Thank you.
I appreciate it.
And you will be right back.
How do you make sure that you stay regular?
As I get older, I find that if I don't eat a healthy diet, it disturbs my cycle.
I also eat prunes daily.
I may sound like an old man, but it does the trick.
Share your story on Dr. Oz's Facebook page.
The three-day fat flush.
I lost six pounds and I feel amazing.
The Oz Approved Shopping List gets you started.
I feel great and I'm ready to go shopping.
It worked for them.
Can it work for you?
That's coming up on Monday.
So you think you're creative with your Halloween costumes?
Well, I came across a little guy who will give you, even the best of you, a run for your money.
Cassie McClellan has been coming up with creative ways to incorporate her son Caleb's wheelchair into his costume for years.
Take a look.
Let's start with my personal favorite.
Four-year-old Caleb flying high in the clouds above the city as Superman.
And next, here's Caleb and his mom, Cassie.
He's part of a Mario Kart.
He looks the part.
And finally, here's one at six years of age.
Caleb as Batman in the Batmobile.
That's pretty classic.
Last time, for in case you missed it, we did our first ever, first ever Halloween episode, and we asked the question, is this normal or not?
It's the right question for Halloween.
We met Jolana, who has a very peculiar habit of eating her earwax.
Now, earwax, you all know, it's kind of sweat.
It's designed to clear the wax.
When you move your jaw up and down, it carries the wax out, but it moves dust and dirt that may have gotten stuck in your ear along the way.
So if you don't look carefully through this direction, but instead actually what's really happening in your ear is this wax is building up and you're putting your head in there and poking, poking, poking.
As you do that, she has a redness here.
You can scratch it up.
Not so smart.
You can also push this stuff right into the eardrum down here where you can cause all kinds of problems with hearing.
So we determined as a group, the audience is always very smart on these, that it is nuts and you shouldn't be doing it.
Although she liked the taste, she agreed to consider stop doing it.
Next we met Janelle who told us about her third nipple.
And guess what?
That, my friends, is normal.
It's actually fairly common.
It's called a supernumerary nipple.
People have a third nipple all the time.
Don't worry about it unless it starts to grow or change its characteristics.
And lastly, I've revealed what may be the most surprising cause of your constipation.
Overgrowth of yeast in your gut.
And one helpful tip is to drink ginger root tea.
It tastes good.
You can make it part of your routine.
It helps calm the inflammation caused by yeast.
It also provides support to your liver while your body tries to eliminate the overgrowth of anything else in there that shouldn't be in there.
Finally, I want to close with a warning.
Please be careful about what you buy online, especially weight loss pills.
Dubious people online make it seem like I'm endorsing their products.
I don't.
