Host of DAILY TRUTH addresses listener support challenges caused by algorithms before analyzing 1 Timothy to argue that miraculous sign gifts ceased once the apostolic foundation was established. He distinguishes between prayers of petition and the authoritative declarations used by Jesus, citing 1 Corinthians 3 and Ephesians 4 to assert that while foundational roles are complete, pastors now equip saints for ministry. Ultimately, the discussion concludes that these supernatural validations were temporary markers of authority, urging listeners to leave five-star reviews to sustain the ministry's reach. Apostles, Prophets, and Foundation00:06:20
All right, listen, guys, I get it.
Many of you are unable to financially support this ministry because you're spending your cash and your lives on raising young children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
Praise God for you and that endeavor.
However, algorithms are a thing.
Shadow banning, sadly, is a thing.
And one major way that you can help to expand the reach and effectiveness of this ministry that doesn't cost you a dime is by spending just a few moments leaving us a five star review.
Also, perhaps even more effective than that, you can share our podcast with a friend.
We hope you'll take the time to do so.
Thank you so much.
God bless.
Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
You're listening to Daily Truth.
And so, even here in 1 Timothy, one of the things that we see is we see the ceasing of the gifts.
We see the ceasing of the gifts of the Spirit.
Because this same Paul, we know from the book of Acts, his handkerchiefs were taken from him and passed around to people being whole.
Right?
Take a little wine for your stomach's sake.
Why?
Paul, why don't you just wrap up in that parchment, right?
Letter with a handkerchief.
No wine needed, right?
Just send him a letter, send him a prayer cloth, right?
For the low price, only for you, $9.99.
You can get this little bottle of water from the Jordan River, and, you know, like, why not just do that?
Right?
I mean, he's an apostle.
I mean, Peter, and Peter being one of Paul's contemporaries, his colleagues, his peer, not a peer, not a leader, a peer.
Peter, people would literally map out which direction he was going to be going, which paths in the villages he was going to be taking, and what time he would be walking down these certain roads and paths and alleyways so that the people who were infirmed and sick could get out into the street, hoping that Peter's shadow might pass by them because they would be healed.
It wasn't superstitious, it was real.
Peter's shadow healing the sick.
Paul's handkerchief healing the sick.
And here in 1 Timothy, Paul says, Drink some wine.
Why?
Because the message had already been firmly established.
And the sign gifts served strictly as that, a sign to validate the message.
Now, that doesn't mean that God doesn't still heal to this day.
But there's a difference between praying for healing versus healers.
Right?
So the apostles, what we see is we don't just see prayers of petition.
That word petition is A request, it's pleading, it's asking the Lord.
Now, we still plead and ask the Lord for healing.
I actually just prayed for healing right before the service began for one of our members.
But as I prayed, what I didn't do is a prayer petition.
I was pleading and asking the Lord, knowing that He may heal, He may not.
That's different than a prayer.
A prayer petition is different than a prayer of declaration.
Look at the prayers of Jesus, look at the prayers of the apostles.
They don't just plead with the Lord, they say, Rise up and walk.
It's not a petition, it's a declaration.
Right?
Why?
Because the apostles were given this kind of supernatural power as a sign, that is, as a badge, as a validation of their authority, their commissioning as apostles for the message.
And even in Paul's lifetime, even while Paul is still alive, the gifts are beginning to dwindle a bit.
Not because God doesn't care for the sick anymore, not because God doesn't ever do miracles anymore.
We live in God's miraculous world.
But because the foundation had been laid.
As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, I, as an expert builder, I laid a foundation.
Right?
And what is this foundation?
It's the apostles and the prophets with a cornerstone being Christ.
The foundation doesn't need to be relayed.
Our job, that Ephesians 4, right?
Some of you heard the fivefold ministry, okay?
Well, really, I'm going to argue it's fourfold, right?
It's apostles, prophets, evangelists, and shepherd teachers.
In the Greek, they really go together, shepherd teachers.
It's like shepherd backslash teacher, right?
Like two sides of one coin.
So it's a fourfold ministry, shepherd teachers being one role.
And what is shepherding and teaching?
If anything, it's a pastor.
So we have apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors.
Apostles and prophets, according to Ephesians 2 20, they're the foundation on which the church is laid.
And according to 1 Corinthians 3, Paul is an expert builder, as an apostle himself, laid that foundation.
It is the gospel of Jesus Christ, it's the law of God and the gospel of God, it is the scripture.
So the foundation has been laid by apostles and prophets.
We still have apostles and prophets today because we still have their testimony in this book.
The apostles and prophets are still speaking.
They're speaking even now as I exegete and exposit scripture.
But they are foundational.
Now we have evangelists and pastors, the next two workers in Ephesians 4, coming and building upon what they've already laid.
Not relaying a foundation.
There's only one foundation, and the apostles and prophets have already laid it.
But we now, as evangelists and pastors, are training and equipping the very saints for the work of ministry.
We're building, setting up framework.
Right?
We're furnishing, we're doing the plumbing, the electrical, all that kind of stuff because the foundation is done.
And we do that until Christ one day returns.
That's the deal.
And even in Paul's own lifetime, we see the sign gifts beginning to dwindle.
Instead of a handkerchief, we get instructions to take a little wine for your stomach's sake.
Why?
Because the sign gifts have served their purpose.
They have validated the apostles' ministry and the message, that foundation has been laid.
