DAILY TRUTH - Being Above Reproach

Daily Truth host defines biblical elders as "above reproach" per 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, emphasizing integrity over sinless perfection and urging immediate self-conviction before external correction. He notes his church's success through quick confession, preventing Satan from exploiting weak points to harm the congregation. The segment concludes with an urgent call to register for the May 5th–7th Theonomy and Post Millennialism Conference featuring James White and others, warning that only 75 to 100 of 525 seats remain at RightResponseConference.com. Above Reproach But Not Sinless 00:04:08
Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request.
If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show, would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five star review?
This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible.
Thanks.
Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
You're listening to Daily Truth.
Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach.
In your notes, I've written this.
This particular qualification is the top.
It's at the very top.
Not the very top because I just gave one other, so that's, you know, you get it.
It's in the top five, top two, whatever.
It's in the top of both a list for qualifications for elders in 1 Timothy 3, our particular text today, and Titus 1, another list of qualifications for elders.
This is not a requirement of perfection.
We've got to be careful.
What does it mean to be above reproach?
We spoke of some of this last week.
Let's look at it a little bit more in detail.
Now, the Greek word conveys the idea of not possessing anything in one's life that Satan might be able to use against you.
Simply put, an elder must not be living a double life.
He must be a man of integrity.
He cannot be a hypocrite.
When he sins, because above reproach does not mean sinless perfection, only Christ is sinlessly perfect.
So an elder will sin.
He's a qualified man, but not a sinless man.
So when he sins, he judges himself.
An elder is qualified when.
At those times where he does, in fact, sin, the first person to confront him on his sin is him.
That's a wonderful sign of a man being qualified.
To brag on our other four elders, it is a rare occasion when I or someone else has to go to them and cause them to understand, bring to their attention a failure.
On their part, that they have not already been made aware of by the conviction of the Holy Spirit in their own hearts, in their own lives.
There's very little correction on our elder team because there's very much conviction on our elder team.
That's not to say that we do not disagree, that's not to say that we do not correct when necessary, but often there's not as much correction because there's much confession.
There's much confession among the pastors of this church as we meet together, as we talk together, as we pray together.
And so to be above reproach is not to be sinlessly perfect, but it is to be a man who ultimately, at the end of the day, does not have a crack in the wall of the fortress.
There is no weak point that the enemy might exploit in order to bring him down and ultimately do the church much harm.
And one of the ways that he fortifies the walls, spiritual maturity as a defense.
Not just for himself, not for his own reputation, but for the protection and safety of the people of God.
One of the ways that he fortifies that wall, one of the ways that he fills in the cracks is through constant, continual, careful confession.
A man who has to be corrected regularly is probably not quite ready to be an elder.
But a man who still is a sinner but confesses regularly.
Do you see the distinction?
There's a difference.
So to be above reproach is not to say a man who is sinlessly perfect.
But it's a man who recognizes his sin quickly and doesn't always have to be corrected because he's quick to announce, to present, to confess his sin to the appropriate parties.
He is above reproach.
Houston, we have a problem.
I repeat, we have a problem.
Register Today Before Seats Sell Out 00:01:33
Our conference is about to sell out.
I mean, about to sell out.
We probably have about 75 to 100 seats left.
Our venue holds about 525 to. 550 seats, and we currently have 450 people who are registered for this conference.
The excitement is tangible.
A lot of people registered because they wanted to hit the early bird rate.
We're now at our normal rate $130 for an adult, $50 for a kid who's 11 to 17 years old, and kids 10 and under get in free.
You can bring the whole family.
But the problem is not that we're going to raise the rate again, the problem is we're going to run out of tickets and we're going to run out pretty fast.
Again, we've got about 100 seats or less, 450 people, six months out.
Are you already registered for this conference?
We don't want you to miss it.
So, to ensure that you get to make it to this conference, you need to register not a month from now, not a week from now, not tomorrow, but today.
