DAILY TRUTH - Seeking Spiritual Growth

The DAILY TRUTH episode announces a price hike for the Post Millennial and Theonomy Conference in Georgetown, Texas, from $100 to $130 after October 31st, featuring speakers like Dr. James White. The host argues that spiritual maturity involves heightened self-awareness of sin and idolatry, citing John Owen and Isaiah to show how sanctification reveals remaining flaws while maintaining gospel confidence. Ultimately, this balance between recognizing shortcomings and trusting in Christ's assurance defines true growth, urging listeners to support the ministry with reviews. Becoming More Like Christ 00:07:43
Wait, Hold it.
Big announcement, a scary announcement, a threat, but also a promise.
The price of our conference, the Post Millennial and Theonomy Conference, it's going up.
It's going up right after Reformation Day.
We are going to hold the price at $100, which is super cheap for a three day conference with Dr. James White, Dr. Joseph Boot, Dr. Gary DeMar, and the guy who's not a doctor.
So we'll say Pastor Joel Webbin.
We've got a great conference May 5th, 6th, and 7th in Georgetown, Texas, just north of Austin, for $100.
Super cheap.
But we can't hold that price forever.
So if you want to get into that price, you got to get in now, right after Reformation Day, not Halloween, Reformation Day, October 31st.
That's the last day that you can get in this conference, register at the price of a hundred bucks.
After that, starting November 1st, it's going to be a hundred and thirty.
So go to Right Response Conference dot com, Right Response Conference dot com, and register today.
Thanks.
Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth.
Of God.
You're listening to Daily Truth.
And here's the irony the person who is lacking self awareness, who doesn't have their fingers on the pulse of the sin which still remains within the members of their being, of the idolatry that still lurks in the recesses of their heart, the person who does not possess a healthy self awareness, that person feels like they're really sanctified.
But ironically, they're not.
The irony is this the more you're becoming like Christ in progressive righteousness, in sanctification, sometimes the worse you feel.
But don't let that discourage you.
As you are becoming objectively not less like Christ, more like Christ.
But as you're becoming more like Christ, you're also becoming painfully aware of all the ways that you're not like Christ.
That's a mark of maturity.
A mark of maturity is getting better and becoming more aware of the ways in which you still need to improve.
A person who, if you ask them, you know, what are your weaknesses?
What are some areas that you need to improve?
What are some of the things that the Holy Spirit is convicting you about?
When you read the word, what are some of the idols in your heart that get highlighted and emphasized and the person has nothing to say?
They're like, I never thought about that.
Like, whoa.
Like, they should be terrified.
And I talk to Christians like this.
This happens somewhat frequently.
It's like, what sin are you striving by the grace of God and the strength that the Holy Spirit provides to mortify?
That is, to put to death.
What portions of your flesh are you trying to put to death?
Mortifying sin.
What sin are you grieved over and burdened by?
In what ways are you growing?
Not low, but growing in aversion.
That is, Godly hatred towards your sin.
Can you name any of those for me?
And the persons I never even thought about that.
But what are some of your biggest idols?
The things that you are most inclined, most likely to trust and treasure.
Trust and treasure.
That is, hope in and love more than Christ.
Never thought about that.
But not just what areas of the flesh are you mortifying?
Here's another question.
John Owen.
In what way are you seeking to put to death even provisions for the flesh?
In what way are you not just here's sin in my life and I'm trying to mortify it, I'm trying to put it to death, idols in my life, flesh that is standing in a hostile position toward God?
But in what way are you seeking to snuff out every single provision for the flesh?
Most people can't answer that question.
And I'm not saying they're not Christians, I'm just saying that is a sign.
Of a lack of sanctification.
Whereas, and here's the irony whereas the person who can answer those questions, like, I'm super grieved about this sin in my life.
I'm very aware about these seven idols in my life.
I'm not.
I have been leaving provisions for the flesh in this way and that way.
And that person, when I'm talking to that person, you know what I'm aware of?
I'm aware that I'm talking to a sanctified individual.
So the person who's more in touch with their sin, likely, Looks more like Jesus than the person who's not.
I think that's what Paul's talking about.
And again, I'm not saying that's exclusively what he's talking about.
Of course, he's talking about his past life.
Of course, he's talking about blaspheming, persecuting.
He's talking about all the things he did before the Lord Jesus Christ saved him and called him to the office of an apostle.
But I think he's also saying that as I keep getting closer and closer to Jesus, I keep being made more and more aware of all the ways I'm not like Jesus.
You don't get caught up into the third heaven.
And then leave that experience without any knowledge of sin.
Let me say that again.
You don't get caught up into third heaven and leave that experience without growing in your knowledge of sin.
Isaiah is caught up.
Whoa, am I?
A man of unclean lips who lives among a people of unclean lips.
Right?
Peter has an experience with the Lord Jesus Christ.
He sees him performing the miracle of catching all the fish.
Let your nets down on the other side of the boat.
His immediate response to Christ after he sees.
That miracle starts to begin to recognize who Jesus is, his deity, that he is the Son of God.
Peter says, Depart from me, Lord.
But I'm a sinner.
Right?
That's the reaction.
You see the holiness of God, you see your sinfulness.
And as we're sanctified, that grows, it doesn't decrease.
But you shouldn't be growing in discouragement.
You're growing in self awareness of the areas in which you need to improve by God's grace.
But you're growing in encouragement and comfort and confidence in the Son of God.
Who loved you and gave himself up for you at the very same time.
So you're not growing in an awareness of sin and in condemnation.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
You are growing in an understanding of the sin which still remains and in confidence in the gospel and the grace of God that covers that sin.
And so you have nothing to fear.
And these two things, as they're held in balance long gospel, long gospel, long gospel, sin and grace, sanctification with grace.
Justification.
As these things are held in balance with one another, we grow.
We grow.
Thanks so much for listening.
