DAILY TRUTH explores Jesus' ongoing intercession, distinguishing past reconciliation from current salvation where Christ, seated at the Father's right hand, acts as an effectual high priest. The segment highlights Jesus' promise to Peter before his arrest, securing the apostle's faith against Satan's sifting not through rebuke but through prayer. Ultimately, this theological analysis asserts that believers' security, sanctification, and preservation rely entirely on Jesus' present mediation, ensuring every prayer is answered for those saved by grace. Thanks.
Jesus said, Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
You're listening to Daily Truth.
There's also a sense in which we are continually.
In a present, ongoing sense, continually being saved by the life of Jesus, reconciled to the triune God by the death of Jesus, but also we have been saved, are being saved, and will be saved by the life of Jesus.
And in this context, the apostle does not speak of the life of Jesus before his death, meaning his incarnate life here on earth, his sinless life and his earthly ministry leading up to his death on the cross.
But the apostle speaks of the life of Jesus even now.
The life of Jesus, where he's now seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding on behalf of all those who belong to him.
That we were saved, we were reconciled to God by his death, but we are being saved by his high priestly interceding, mediating heavenly life.
That as Jesus lives, he ever lives to make intercession for us.
And he is the great mediator of all the covenant promises to those who believe.
Jesus is praying for you, even now as I speak.
If you're in Christ by grace through faith, he is your high priest.
There is one God and one mediator between man and God.
The God man Christ Jesus.
And as he lives, he lives to make intercession for you.
And the wonderful thing about the prayers of Jesus is that there's not a single prayer of Christ that isn't answered.
His prayers are effectual.
His prayers, they always work.
When Jesus says to Peter before his arrest, as Peter is boasting of his loyalty, his allegiance to Christ, That even if all these, Peter says, all these disciples that I've always thought I was better than, and I let them know from time to time, even if all these peons abandon you, and they probably will, Peter has no shame, I will never leave you.
Jesus responds by saying, I tell you before that the rooster crows thrice.
You'll deny me.
You'll deny me three times.
And then Jesus goes on and he says to Peter, he says, Satan has asked to sift you like wheat.
Satan has asked for permission to torment you, to give it his best shot, to completely rob you of your faith in me.
And you would hope if he were Peter that Jesus would respond to Satan by saying, No, you do not have permission.
I mean, Satan goes to Jesus and asks to have Peter that he might sift him like wheat.
If I were Peter, I would want Jesus to respond simply by saying, No, you can't have him.
But that's not what Jesus says.
Jesus says, But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.
And when you have returned, go and strengthen your brothers also.
Essentially, When Satan comes to Jesus and asks for permission to have Peter that he might sift him as wheat, Jesus responds.
The implication is he responds by saying, Yes, you can do that.
But the reason why Peter is secure is not because Jesus tells Satan no.
The reason why Peter is secure is because Jesus commits to praying for him.
And the prayers of Jesus are always answered.
There's not a single prayer of Jesus that ever fails.
If Jesus is praying for your preservation, you will be preserved.
If Jesus is praying for your sanctification, you will be sanctified.
If Jesus is praying for your security and protection, you will be secure.
For all those who have been saved by grace through faith, Jesus is our high priest, He is our mediator.
Being Saved By Christ's Life00:00:43
We've been reconciled to the triune God by His death.
But we are not only in a past sense been saved, but we are being saved by Christ's life.
What life?
The life he now lives.
Not just the life that he lived in his earthly ministry before the cross, but the life he presently lives and forever lives at the right hand of the Father, where he is now seated praying for you and I. Thanks so much for listening.
