Well, guys, you know, if you've been following my work for any amount of time, you know that I'm not big on birthdays, so I feel a little bit like a hypocrite saying this.
But I do have to say, it felt like quite a wonderful birthday present today when I got the news about the Supreme Court ruling, and the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of our law in Tennessee banning child mutilation, quote-unquote, gender transitions of minors.
And this just happens.
And more than a birthday present for me, it's, of course, a huge win for all the children, all the kids who will now be protected from this brutality, from this butchery.
So it's a huge victory.
And I think all the way back to three years ago now when we did our investigation into the child butchery practices of Vanderbilt.
And we followed that up with our big rally in the capital here in Nashville.
And then our lawmakers were on the case, and very quickly they responded with this law, which was just upheld by the Supreme Court.
For the last few years, trans activists have been really confident that all the laws that we've seen, dozens of states now, have passed these laws over the last couple of years and a few even before our law in Tennessee.
And trans activists were very confident that, hey, it doesn't matter because the courts will make it all okay for us.
Because if you're on the left, that's what you're accustomed to.
You're accustomed to the courts coming in and being your activist arm.
But that's not what happened here.
The Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, has just stated that, in fact, it turns out you do have the right to pass laws.
Banning the medical mutilation of minors.
So it's a big victory.
It's a huge victory.
It's something that we should all be grateful for.
It's something that we should be proud of.
All of us.
There are many people who have been in this fight for years and years and years.
We should be proud of that.
We should be grateful for that.
But, you know, as soon as we're done popping the champagne, now we have to look forward.
We have to ask ourselves, what's next?
What do we do now?
And to me, the very next step is quite obvious.
Not that the Supreme Court has ruled and ruled correctly.
What that means is there is nothing stopping us.
There's nothing stopping our Republican majority in Congress and our Republican president from passing a law which bans these procedures, bans this brutality, this butchery nationwide.
We've already banned it in many states, but look, there are still states in the union that are...
And they want to keep doing this to kids.
But the kids in those states, they deserve to be protected too.
This should not be happening to any kid.
Whether it's a kid in Tennessee or a kid in California, it doesn't matter.
And so that has to be the next step.
And so after we're done our celebrating, I think we turn immediately to our lawmakers in Congress right now and say, it's time to get this done.
