Hey everybody!
Welcome to the Weekender Edition.
The Muckrake Podcast.
Thank you to our patrons.
You are wonderful.
We're so glad that you support us and we're so grateful for that.
I'm Jerry G8 Sexton.
I'm here with Nick Halselman.
We like to pull back the curtain on the weekender a little bit, let's be honest.
We're taping this on Wednesday, June 2nd.
That's when we're taping this because I'm going out of town.
I'm planning on traveling, seeing some people, Nick.
I need America not to melt down while I'm gone.
Okay.
I can't remember where you said you were going, but I don't know if you want to even reveal this, uh, you know, on my podcast.
I'm going, I'm going away.
I'm going, I'm going away for a couple of days.
I need there not to be a meltdown.
Don't worry.
Don't worry.
I think in that summer mode where, you know, summer gets... Oh, I couldn't disagree with you more!
Oh yeah?
Okay, so let's go ahead and let's start the show.
I was just openly sending it out in the universe.
I was, what do they call it, manifesting?
Yes.
I was trying to make there not be a major national crisis, but let's go ahead and let's totally refute your idea that this summer is going to be totally fine.
Former President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump.
Uh, has now been quoted based on Maggie Haberman, the Trump whisperer, as telling everyone in his circle and everyone that he talks to that he fully expects to be reinstated as president of the United States by August, which on its face is a bullshit, absurd, crazy conspiracy theory fantasy.
I'm going to break it down in a second, talk about where that date came from and why he's saying August.
But I will go ahead and say that that, along with what we talked about in our episode yesterday, with the QAnon stuff and Michael Flynn calling for a coup, I don't feel great about this summer, is what I'll say.
OK, well, first things first, does Maggie, we can call her Maggie, right?
Yeah, we're close.
Does Maggie deserve the shit she got for tweeting that?
No, I actually don't think so at all.
I actually talked about this and brought it up.
So I think there's a problem with what Heybertman got from this.
I think she has deserved shit in the past.
And she's been complicit with it.
She spread messages for him.
She has certainly laundered Donald Trump's reputation and the people around him.
I think this was reporting necessary information, right?
Oh, yeah.
I think it's news regardless.
And if she isn't going to report it, you know, that somebody else will do it in a heartbeat.
But, yeah, this seems legitimate.
Well, I mean, let's go ahead and let's call it what it is.
The former president of the United States of America is telling people that he expects to be reinstalled as president of the United States.
And the only options for that to happen is the overthrow of a presidential election in which he lost handedly and basically throwing democracy in a trash can.
Or what's the other option, Nick?
Can you?
Well, OK, the violent military coup part.
Oh, the violent military coup part.
There's another part.
There's another way I figured out.
Are you ready?
Yes, there's another way that Trump could be president in August, and that is if he's the only living citizen left in America.
That's number three.
Yeah.
Ah, sure.
That's, you know, it came to me like this was like, yes, this is how he could do it.
By the way, if I were in that position, I'd be the president.
It'd be very exciting.
Well, although it'd be kind of suck because no one else would be around.
Yeah, but it's not worth it if they're not going to play Hail to the Chief when you come in a room.
Right.
Right.
Yes.
But but but let's talk about I mean, that is news that the president of the United States or the former president of the United States of America fully expects to be reinstalled as president as early as August.
That's batshit crazy news is what that is.
Yes.
Now, I'm going to talk it up to, you know, he's just, you know, says shit all the time and doesn't really believe any of it.
You know, we remember all the the mental failings that we had seen evidence of through the four years.
This could be a continuation of that.
You know, it could just be, you know the phrase, I believe the movie phrase was, don't dream it, be it, from Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And I feel like perhaps this is what he's doing because he is so afraid of being arrested.
I, you know, we got to talk about Bibi Netanyahu here in a minute, and we got to talk about how all these people are going to prison probably at some point, possibly.
But before we do that, like, I don't think it's just Trump.
Like, I don't think Trump is just sitting in Mar-a-Lago, like, you know, stewing in his brain over this.
It is obvious, and Flynn is part of this, the people who are pushing the Arizona recount, they obviously want that to be a domino that falls and spreads to all these other states and battleground areas.
It's obvious that people are in Trump's ear, right?
And it's obvious and you see it in conferences, speeches, television segments.
The right, particularly the Trumpian right, truly does believe that they have an opportunity to overthrow the presidential election of 2020 and or overthrow the government.
Like it's not a coincidence that Flynn said that this week and that Trump comes out and this is getting floated and leaked.
It's obvious that these circles are having conversations about overthrowing the government of the United States of America.
Like that is an actual conversation that's taking place.
It's not conjecture.
That's real.
Right.
They're not calling it overthrowing the government, right?
They're just sort of, you know, righting a wrong, I suppose, in their minds.
Yeah, I guess that's what they say.
You know, they have to know deep down what they're But yeah, I think Trump is parroting and, for lack of a better phrase, trumpeting what a lot of people are talking about.
They fully expect to overthrow the government.
Right.
And by the way, the direct offshoot is the Republicans who are trying to minimize what the insurrection was as well.
Those are all part of the same mindset.
And that's the troubling thing.
Again, we tried to figure it out in our last awesome interview, in our last pod, about how big is this group of people?
And is it growing?
And it is growing, I think.
I mean, listen, I just read an interesting article about a woman who's a QAnon person who says she can travel in time and has amassed a huge following.
Wait, like you do?
Like one does on Twitch.
You go on Twitch and you start talking.
She's whipped these people up in Ohio in a frenzy and made them kind of angry, by the way, because it's not happening fast enough for them.
But certainly she's convinced them that they're going to be able to overturn A lot of especially even the local government, they can they're able to like file some arcane lawsuit.
And then all of a sudden, these local elected officials will say we'll have to leave their positions temporarily until they can figure this all out.
But it's all it's it's it's a lot of people.
She's getting 5000 people streaming at one time.
I OK, so a couple of things.
One, I don't want the government to be overthrown, but I do want there to be a press conference where elected officials have to be like, Apparently a time traveler has completely undermined my authority.
I don't know what to do about this.
These are unprecedented times.
Obviously a Mandela effect or a time traveler has created this situation, a schism in reality.
Best of luck, Bon Voyage, Godspeed.
Two, I just want to go ahead and fill in something for people.
This is a funny little tidbit or anecdote.
Do you know why QAnon and the Trumpian conspiracy theory alternate universe.
Do you know why it includes time travel?
Oh, I cannot wait.
Is this related to August as well, or is that separate?
That's completely separate.
Yeah, I want to hear that too, but go ahead.
We'll get into that.
But the reason why QAnonism and Trumpian conspiracy theories involve Time travel and this is true.
This is actually what the components are about and why someone like this can garner such a following.
So there were these books that were written.
And they involved a character named Baron Trump.
And this was back.
I want to say I want to say it was either 19th century or 20th century.
They're like these little adventure novels.
And so you have a character named Barron Trump who lives in New York City and it like they're like these little weird coincidental things.
So they took this little weird nugget because this is real.
That is actually a thing that exists.
And they combined it with another weird nugget.
Are you ready for this?
Are you ready for what it is?
Because this actually gives you insight into how festering this mindset is.
My eyebrows are tired from sitting scrunched like this as I'm listening to this.
So, Donald Trump's uncle was a scientist.
Which we know because Trump, every time that he ever looked at figures or science, he would then tell everybody that his uncle was a scientist.
Well, his uncle was one of the people who had access to the artifacts and remains of one Nikolai Tesla.
And so the line that is drawn, are you ready for this?
This is real.
The line that is drawn is from that book series which has Barron Trump and it has Trump's uncle and Nikolai Tesla.
Obviously Nikolai Tesla made a time machine.
And it has been handed down through the Trump family to Donald Trump, who has used the time machine to be in the right place at the right time.
Don't even worry about the fact that he's declared bankruptcy four times, or that he's been a total failure at everything that he's done.
Donald Trump has actually traveled in and out throughout time, and that's why the time travel component is available for the QAnon people.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
Wait, how do you feel about that?
How does that make you feel?
I gotta tell you, being a huge fan of a movie time after time, for instance, I am... Wait, time out.
Which is time after time?
It's the H.G.
Wells, he goes back and has to catch Jack the Ripper.
I'm sorry, Jack the Ripper... No, I'm not going to ruin it.
Jack the Ripper finds it and goes to the modern times and starts killing people and he's got to follow him to help catch him.
What year is that?
What year is this from?
1980?
It's a really good movie.
Is it good?
Who's in that?
Yes, them and him.
You know, people who are sort of like recognizable from that era, but no, you know, it's probably like Mary Steenburgen.
Watch, it is Mary Steenburgen.
She's great.
Young Mary Steenburgen, probably, but I'll tell you who the other people are.
Your first thoughts go to the 1980 H.G.
Wells adaptation with Mary Steenburgen.
Yeah, Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steinberg.
Oh, Malcolm McDowell!
OK, I like Malcolm McDowell.
I would like props for remembering that that was him.
And then David Warner, who was like a bad guy that you'd seen in all those movies back then.
So my question to you, as someone who is not swam in this cesspool of absolute insane beliefs, doesn't it feel like your brain's melting a little bit just trying to because your brain automatically expels this out like so much bad food?
And your brain's like reacting in horror.
It's like, what?
No, that's not true at all.
Get rid of it.
But trying to frame it inside a logic that isn't your own, isn't that exhausting?
Well, yeah, but what I imagine is people want to believe that, and then they do, right?
So you have to kind of want to believe it.
Now, for instance, I had mentioned on another thing, and I don't want to get into detail because my buddy is still trying to do this documentary, but there's a story about what's-the-frequency Kenneth, which is a little similar to what you described.
And the real story behind that, which you can look up and find out.
That to me is really intriguing.
And I'm into that.
And that sounds like a cool thread I would like to be able to connect some dots to.
Of course, I don't let that govern my life.
And I don't think it has anything to do with like the government and how we run it and how day to day things like people who have to survive, you know, day to day.
So somehow I'm able to find some interesting dichotomy.
There are differences there where this obviously is ridiculous.
And the what's the frequency kind of thing, which is probably equally ridiculous, sounds much more interesting.
And I would like to find out more about.
Yeah, but you're interested in it because it's not forming the backbone or the spine of a belief that could very well turn into the overthrow of the government of the United States.
Okay.
I mean, like, really, like, what we're talking about, and I was writing about this today on my Substack, like, There is this battle between empirical knowledge, which is, I am looking at a clock right now, I know what time it says it is, I'm looking at you, like I recognize you, we're having a conversation, I can look at a thermometer, I know what the temperature is, right?
I can measure how many things are outside, all of that.
And then you have revealed knowledge, which is, have faith in it.
Even if your eyes deceive you, which is what the Trump movement has all been about.
Don't trust your eyes.
What was it Trump said at one point?
Don't listen to what they tell you.
Don't believe what you're seeing.
Listen to what our version of reality is and live within it.
It is honestly a religious belief.
What we're talking about now, the idea that Trump will be back in office by August, one thing you have to understand is that they will convince themselves to the point where they'll be willing to die for it, which is martyrdom, right?
If you believe in a religion, you believe in a faith, and you're willing to die for it, you can make the goals of the faith happen.
You know what I mean?
Like, I received a vision from heaven which told me that God wants us to conquer Canada.
Well, guess what?
If you conquer Canada, you stand up and you're like, I told you God told me so.
Like why didn't you have faith?
This was obvious here from this revealed knowledge.
The whole thing is so exhausting and so tiring and frustrating and also scary.
I mean like let's be real like this is like this is a horror.
This is a horror show.
It's kind of reminiscent of a video that went a little bit viral on Twitter this past couple days of, you know, the woman like sort of, well, it wasn't speaking in tongues, but that one usually goes around too.
But the people who speak in tongues and then the people who are trying to cast out demons, and then they physically react to somebody telling them to cast out the demons.
And people are there, a lot of people are there around and are firmly, you know, engaged with this behavior.
You know, listen, I did improv.
We had to learn how to be uncomfortable in a space and do things like be an animal or whatever, like in terms of acting.
This is something wholly different, right?
This is something that is like your deep soul controlling this.
And you probably have voices in your head that you are thinking are someone else's voices, it's not yours.
It is frightening.
And again, what's frightening about it is how easily spread it is.
