Time Text
Hey, we have a great announcement about something brand new on TVN. It starts this coming Monday, 6.30 Eastern, 5.30 Central Time.
The brand new Huckabee Today Show will be debuting right here on TVN every evening for half an hour.
We'll have conversations with fascinating guests and information and analysis about the news of the day.
I hope you will watch it.
Of course, our regular weekend show, this one, is not going anywhere.
In fact, we just got word we're extending this show for an additional contract, which we're all very happy about.
So don't you worry, we're not going anywhere.
Well, this week, as you all know, it commemorated the 80th anniversary of one of the greatest military campaigns in history, D-Day.
Allied forces from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and other nations, numbering over 156,000 troops, stormed the beaches of Normandy, France on June the 6th, 1944. That marked the beginning of the end for the Nazi forces.
Within days of D-Day, over 325,000 troops would land on the shores of France in the largest air, land, and sea war action in all of history.
It was almost another year of hard battles before Germany would surrender.
But the Allied forces didn't throttle back, and they didn't enter into any agreements for a ceasefire that would give the Nazis more time to regroup.
This week I wondered if Joe Biden and the people around him, if they've really studied D-Day, and if so, why on earth would they be pressuring Israel to do something that no successful military has ever done?
Namely, to call a halt to the pressure on the enemy and even discuss allowing them to survive the war and continue governing the land that launched the horrific terroristic attack on innocent Israeli civilians.
If Joe Biden had been president in 1944, would he have launched D-Day and then told Eisenhower to tell our troops, hey, put a pause in the action and let's see if the Nazis will start acting nicer.
For all the nations who want an end to the tragedies and human suffering in Gaza, which are, by the way, the direct result of Hamas butchering women, children, and elderly people, I got an idea.
Real simple.
The war in Gaza can end in less than 24 hours.
Here's how.
Demand that Hamas unconditionally surrender, release all the hostages, and be prepared to stand trial for the atrocities inflicted upon the people of Israel, just as the Nazis had to face at Nuremberg.
That's how you end it.
From D-Day forward, the United States only intensified the war effort against the Nazis.
It was unfortunate, but our bombs did kill thousands of German civilians in the intensive bombing of Dresden, Germany, back in February of 1945. An estimated 25,000 people were killed by the Allied bombing, but nobody suggested that we were the bad guys.
Without such a show of resolve of our commitment to win the war, the Germans would likely have continued to fight and many more U.S. servicemen and German civilians would have died.
Yes, it was unfortunate, but let's never forget that World War II was started by the Nazis who proceeded to murder 11 million civilians, 6 million of them who were Jews.
That evil had to be put down.
Letting the German Nazis survive to keep running or even having a piece of Europe was never on the table.
But the Biden administration seems to think that it's the Israelis who need to surrender instead of Hamas.
Why don't we just make it clear to Hamas and their Iranian funders and their Qatari accommodators that Hamas has won and it only has one choice.
That's it.
Surrender and do it now or else.
And if they don't, they'll face even more intense military campaigns to eradicate them.
This is really a moment of truth for the United States.
We're either going to stand with a trusted ally or we're going to stand with the bloodthirsty terrorist of Hamas.
There is no middle ground.
There is no compromise.
The message has to be clear.
Israel wins.
Hamas surrenders.
And further, this cowardly surprise attack on the civilians of Israel should never be rewarded with foolish talk of some unrealistic two-state solution.
Those days have ended.
There needs to be a sovereign state of Israel, and those who live within its borders will be under its authority and its flag.
And if that's unacceptable, there can be an accommodation to assist those who want to leave Israel, and they can relocate to Jordan, Egypt, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or any other nation who thinks there ought to be a home for the Palestinians.
So let's pray that Joe Biden acts more like FDR, Winston Churchill, and Harry Truman and less like Neville Chamberlain.
Because right now the world needs a Churchill who forces a surrender rather than a Chamberlain who is willing to surrender to the butchers.
My next guest has served on President Trump's personal legal team and he's been fighting for religious freedom and the rule of law his entire career.
Please welcome the executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, Jordan Sekulow.
Jordan, it's great to have you back here on the show.
Let's start with one of the big stories of the last couple of weeks, and that's the trial of Donald Trump in New York.
You said something that I heard very few people say.
You said you would not be surprised if he was convicted.
Most people were saying, there's no way.
The charges are flimsy.
It's a ridiculous process.
The judge is unfair.
There's nothing here.
But you thought this would happen.
Yes, it was New York.
They put two judges on the jury, two attorneys on the jury, which I thought was not a good idea because they can kind of take over the jury room.
And those two attorneys were probably, even if they were registered Republicans, they're not Trump Republicans in the city of New York and Manhattan, if that's where they're...
So you've got to understand that the jury that was pulled was already probably after the people that were brought forward really to just make Donald Trump look bad.
You think about Stephanie Richards and this long testimony she was able to give about this relationship she had just to sully him up.
And a jury that already was likely against him, it probably wasn't too difficult for those attorneys to get the rest of the jury to say, you know what, let's convict.
We don't really know what we're convicting, but we have three choices.
You've been practicing the law a long time.
Yeah.
Have you ever seen a case where the defendant was not really told what the charges were against him until the closing arguments of the prosecution, which means the defense couldn't even rebut them?
No.
I mean, in the idea that in the jury instruction, you could pick one of three to make it a felony, but we don't know which three any of the jurors pick.
So we don't know if there's a conflict.
So what's good about this case for President Trump is the appeal.
Yeah.
He's got a lot to appeal.
And yes, he has to go through the New York appellate system, and that may be difficult.
But ultimately, when you go through that system, you make your way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
And at the U.S. Supreme Court, I mean, I think they're going to look at the jury instruction, those multiple ways you could choose your felony, which is not normal.
And the idea, again, that he really was not able to fight against or take on, or his legal team, the felony charge.
That they brought against him.
And there are several other things about an appeal.
One was that the judge refused to allow the chairman, former chairman of the Federal Election Commission.
Nobody in the country is more knowledgeable about federal election law.
So if you're going to hit him up for violating a federal election law, which as you just mentioned, wasn't even kosher to what's going on.
But you let it happen, then who's the best guy to rebut that but the former chairman?
They wouldn't let him testify.
No, they would not.
How do they get away with that?
You know, this is, again, it just shows you the judge in these situations.
We've been cautioning people across the country.
These are Soros-backed DAs, and they've had one mission the last two years, and we've seen it all across the country.
We've seen it in Georgia.
We've seen it through the federal system as well, but especially at the state system, you know, trying to take him off the ballot, trying to, you know, take his businesses away with the Attorney General Letitia James.
And trying to just ruin him financially and try and just dirty him up, knowing that he's going to be the nominee.
I mean, it's all political, but these are all Soros-backed candidates.
And you know, I just don't understand why George Soros is so determined To destroy the American jurisprudence system for one thing and the entire American political system for the other.
They have launched an all-out assault legally on Donald Trump and his family.
And he's probably the only person in America that I know, like I said, I know that could even deal with this financially, personally, and still run for president at the same time.
I totally agree.
I don't think there's anybody else that would be able to get out of bed and come out of a fetal position up under the bed and face what he has to face every day.
Stick around, Jordan.
We've got a lot more to talk about when we come back.
And Keith, in the meantime, why don't you fill us in on who else is coming up in the show tonight?
Well, later tonight, animator Butch Hartman talks about his latest cartoon series and a performance by bluegrass queen Rhonda Vincent.
all that and more on Huckabee.
Go to MikeHuckabee.com and sign up for his free newsletter.
And follow AdGov Mike Huckabee on X. We are back with Jordan Sekulow, who's the former Trump attorney, executive director at the American Center for Law and Justice.
We've been talking about that New York case, but that's just one of four that the president is under right now, one of which has taken a very interesting turn.
That's the one in Florida.
In Florida, one of Jack Smith's two cases.
So the one in D.C. is on hold for the Supreme Court.
We should know by...
At least the last week of July from the Supreme Court, how many of the charges might be tossed out?
Or that that's all going to be this idea of official acts and presidential immunity, not to get too deep into it, will likely be sent back to lower courts if you heard the oral argument.
And they're gonna have to decide, okay, what's a presidential official act that could be criminal?
Then what's a non-official act that could be criminal?
And then what's not covered by privilege that Jack Smith could then bring himself?
So he kind of bit off more than I think he thought in that case and by the Supreme Court taking it.
And I think, again, that's gonna be a whole process just to answer those questions, which are not easy questions to answer and they have not been answered before.
In Florida, Judge Cannon, who they, of course, the media cannot stand on the left, has for the first time, and by the way, Hunter Biden's attorneys have tried this, Paul Manafort's attorneys have tried this, they've tried to challenge special counsels.
That special counsels aren't in any statute by Congress.
They're created by rulemaking of the Department of Justice and they're not confirmed by the Senate.
So they're not officers of the United States.
So why do they have more authority than a U.S. attorney?
And are they legal?
And so she has actually scheduled an oral argument.
While the case on the classified documents is on hold, she's scheduled an oral argument for June 21st, and she's going to hear the issue on whether or not his appointment was legal.
If she comes down and says, for the first time in court history, since this has started to be used and weaponized, which is pretty recently, actually, because the independent counsel statute was let to expire after the Watergate investigation and kin starved.
So if she, though, does say, okay, you know what?
I think they're right.
I think they don't have the authority to do this.
She won't be the final say.
It'll go to the 11th Circuit.
But again, we keep talking about major cases.
I know the Supreme Court didn't want to get political.
That's another one that could be right on its way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
And there's agreement on both sides of the aisle that this is unconstitutional with some of the most liberal attorneys and some of the most conservative constitutional attorneys.
So this case has also taken an interesting turn, and I know we only have a few seconds, but I've got to point this out.
Jack Smith is going after Donald Trump because he said he mishandled documents.
Then it became clear that Jack Smith mishandled and manipulated some of the documents.
Yes.
They've lost classified documents.
They gave a glossary over to the defense team.
So they opened the glossary up, and they said, okay, so where's that document?
Let's go to that document.
Oh, wait.
It wasn't there.
This one doesn't exist.
This one's out of order.
So that's when she said, shh.
This case is on hold.
You guys manipulated evidence.
That's what that's called.
And if you manipulate classified documents and evidence like that, you really don't have a case.
Bottom line, where does this go?
I mean, right now he's gaining ground in the polls.
His fundraising is off the charts.
Is it ultimately Turn him into Nelson Mandela?
Put him in prison, but he comes out stronger than ever?
I don't think he's going to be ever behind bars, but I do think he'll get sentenced on July 11th.
He'll appeal that immediately.
He'll ask for a stay on the sentence.
I think he'll get that.
So that'll go to the New York Appellate Division.
He'll fight that one all the way.
That's the one, again, with the Alvin Bragg case.
And ultimately, I think what they're seeing is you can bring these cases against him, and the toughest part is the gag wars.
Yeah.
They won't lift the gag order from the Alvin Bragg case before the first, they don't want it lifted before the first debate.
So how does he respond without worrying about adding up, you know, tens of thousands of dollars in fines and maybe then almost forcing a judge's hand to jail.
So it's just a mess.
I think he just ought to show up in the court.
And say to Judge Mershon, okay, you're going to fine me for the gag order.
You're going to fine me $10,000.
Here's 20. Keep the change.
I'm going to keep talking.
I think that would be classic Trump for him to do that.
Jordan, great to have you here.
Thank you.
Thank you, Governor.
Hey, to follow all the latest impacts from the Donald Trump verdict and to keep up with the news reported by the ACLJ, please go to Huckabee.tv and click on Jordan's guest page.
Keith Bilbrey is here.
He's going to give us a little bit of news about what's on deck for tonight.
Well, coming up, video creator Elon Sobel helps to salute America's first responders, and later, the creator of Barely Odd Parents.
Butch Hartman discusses some new exciting projects on Huckabee.
Samaritan's Purse is bringing life-giving help to families all over the world.
The past couple of weeks, my own wife Janet has been serving with Samaritan's Purse in northwest Arkansas.
That's after a series of tornadoes tore through numerous counties, killing eight people and destroying homes and businesses.
She's reported that volunteers are always needed.
Samaritan's Purse is usually the very first to arrive and the last to leave.
Jesus said, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
And I hope you will help Samaritan's Purse serve the hurting in places that are too often forgotten.
Your gift helps their needs both physically and spiritually.
Let God bless your giving today and know that the Lord can use that to do very abundant and fruitful work through the ministry of Samaritan's Purse.
Call them today or you can visit their website.
Real simple, scan the QR code right there on your screen.
Thanks for opening your heart, and thanks for making a difference.
Well, up next is a very special guest and a great friend to the Teethian family.
He's the CEO of BioHarvest, the creators of Venia, which is the remarkable red grape superfood for better blood flow that I've been taking for over three years.
I want you to welcome back to the show, Elon Sobel.
Elon, great to have you here.
Thank you.
Governor, it's a real pleasure.
We have talked before and you were here before.
The whole idea of Venia is that it opens up the blood flow and everything happens with the blood.
I mean, that's a biblical mandate.
I mean, we know that from the scripture, but scientifically and medically, it means more oxygen to the brain, more oxygen to every part of our body.
Correct Governor.
I mean let's go back to where it all started.
You and I like to have this conversation because at the end of the day it all started with creation.
You know the technology that we have is really leveraging the power of what God gave us on day three.
500,000 plants and these plants have unique phytonutrients inside them but the phytonutrients are so important for our health and wellness.
But they come in such small levels inside the plant, so we have to figure out, leveraging the power of science and combining science and scripture together, we had to leverage technology, and we've spent $100 billion in the last 15 years to develop technology to be able to increase the levels of those critical phytonutrients.
So, if you take, for example, the red grape.
The red grape has a very unique phytonutrient called pi-CE resveratrol, which is so important for overall cardiovascular health and blood flow.
And so what we do in our technology is we increase the levels of pi-CE resveratrol 100 times more Versus what's found in the actual red grape itself.
Cause we grow the cells and we increase the levels and we grow these cells in massive industrial scale bioreactors.
And then literally after 18 days, we harvest the cells, we dry the cells and that's what you have.
Literally the same amount of parsley resveratrol in one capsule as a thousand red grapes.
No sugar, no alcohol, and no calories.
Yeah, I don't drink.
So, you know, the idea of drinking wine, even though, you know, Paul said to Timothy, drink a little wine for your stomach's sake.
I'm thinking, I hate the smell of it, the taste of it.
I don't want any of it.
So this right here, this one capsule, which I've been taking now every day for three years, This is like eating a thousand grapes or drinking a full bottle of red wine.
If I drank a full bottle of red wine every day, I'd be a mess, okay?
But I can take this pill and all it does is just give me some extra energy and I feel better.
And Governor, inside your body, all of our bodies, we have 60,000 miles of blood vessels.
Capillaries and arteries.
60,000 miles.
And we've got to make sure that It's like a highway.
We've got to make sure that those highways are four-lane highways, not a one-lane highway.
So with increased blood flow, which is such a critical part of our body's operating mechanism, we have more oxygen, more nutrients flowing to the body, the tissue, the cells and organs, and that means more physical energy.
And specifically when it comes to more blood flow in the brain, You have more mental alertness.
Goodbye the brain fog.
And let me ask the audience, who does not need more physical energy and mental alertness with our lives that we lead today?
I think it's something that most of us can identify with, and the older we get, the more we need it.
Something that is very exciting, you are doing a special Give Back campaign.
I want you to tell us about who can especially immediately benefit from VINIA. We decided to give back to these protectors of the community, and we are giving a 20% discount forever for every police officer, firefighter, Nurse, doctor, members of the military, and don't forget the veterans as well.
And we're kicking it off tonight.
Well, as the son of a firefighter, I am deeply grateful that firefighters are included along with all of the...
Various first responders that we've talked about.
Now, Elon, I know that you've invited one of, really, I guess you could say your Venia heroes to share her story.
I want you to welcome an American hero who is powered by Venia every day, Debbie Swainer.
Debbie, come on out here.
So Debbie, you are a nurse. you are a nurse.
Yes, sir.
That's a high-stress job, isn't it?
It can be.
So, you started taking Venia, and you got in touch with Elon and said you could tell a difference.
I mean, you're in the medical profession, so I think you would know the difference between if something helped or not.
Yes, sir.
I have the unique ability to know how the body works, being a nurse, the anatomy and physiology, and I know that the most important nutrient we can get is oxygen.
I started a while back Looking for something to help me with energy.
I'm 66 and a half and I want to keep working and I want to keep doing what I'm doing because I love what I'm doing and I just don't want to stop.
And what I do, I'm a workers' comp nurse.
I work with a lot of first responders, firemen, policemen, a lot of military people that have become firemen and policemen.
I work with a lot of linemen, the electrical linemen, and their job is as important.
And so I found myself losing a lot of energy and not being able to think as clearly as I should.
And I've got to think clearly because I manage their care after their injury.
And once they move into their recovery, I'm responsible for that.
But I was finding myself forgetting a lot of things, not being able to multitask like I could when I was 40. And I was just looking for something and tried many different products and I came across Venia.
And I can truthfully say it's the only supplement I've ever taken that has given me what I need to get to get through the day.
Well, I think it's wonderful that it is based on a biblical understanding, using the plants that God gave us as he gave them to us, rather than creating something that says, well, this is a whole lot like what God made.
This is what God made.
That's the big difference.
And, you know, I've seen a difference.
You have, and I think other people will, and I think it's fantastic, Elon, that you're going to make it Available for others.
In fact, you've created something.
I think this is kind of cool.
First time I've seen it was tonight.
This is called Huckbox.
And with these, you get $20 off of an order for Venia.
And every one of the audience is going to get one of these tonight.
So that's a nice thing.
And Governor...
This is not the only gift we're giving tonight.
Obviously, we've spoken a lot about your father and his deep contribution to the community in Arkansas as part of his role for many years in the Hope firefighting team.
And as a result of his contribution and in honour Of all the lives that he saved in the community, we're also giving the entire firefighting team Vinia for the future to help them do what they need to do every single day to protect the Hope community.
That is fantastic.
You know, my father passed away in 1996. I have a feeling he is smiling from heaven and looking down and very grateful to see the Hope firefighters be able to test Vinia for themselves and see how it works.
I want to say to all of our viewers that we here at TBN are very grateful to Elon and BioHarvest, and here's why.
They give a significant share of your purchase of VINIA to support TBN's mission to spread the gospel all over the world.
So know that when you order VINIA, you're doing something good for yourself, and you're also helping others as well.
Keith, why don't you tell us who's up next on the show?
Well, sharpen your pencils.
When we come back, cartoonist Butch Hartman brings his creativity to the stage.
That's next on Huckabee.
Huckabee.
Welcome back, everybody.
You know, I love that we have the best music in America on our show week after week after week.
week thanks to Trey Torley and the Music City Connection.
And this is also a very special week for Trey because his wife, Sean L., has now officially put up with him for 25 years.
And 25th anniversary for Trey and Shawnell Corley.
Here they are.
You know, she doesn't look like she could have been married for 25 years.
Trey, on the other hand, looks like he could have been.
So I think he married her probably when she was like seven or eight, I don't know, something.
Happy anniversary, Trey.
Proud for both of you.
Thank you, sir.
Butch Hartman created some of Nickelodeon's most popular animated children's shows, things like Danny Phantom and The Fairly Odd Parents, which is the second longest running show in Nickelodeon's history.
But now he and his wife, Julianne, have teamed up to create a series inspired by their Christian faith.
It's called The Garden, and it uses fun animal characters to teach small children all about biblical stories and values.
Please welcome to the show, Butch Hartman.
It's quite a place you have here, don't you?
It is not bad, you know?
It's not bad at all.
We love this place.
We're so happy to have you here.
Well, I'm honored to be here.
Thanks for having me.
You know, the terrific success that you had on Nickelodeon's show, particularly the Fairly Odd Parents, you've sort of revised that now, but it's biblical-based, so it's all about helping little kids to have a story that puts values in there.
Well, amen.
You know, I worked at Nickelodeon for over 20 years, created The Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, and some other shows.
I was very fortunate to have some great success there.
But I'm a Christian, and I love Jesus.
And my wife and I saw a real gap in the Christian marketplace for Awesome cartoons.
There's some great cartoons out there for Christian kids, but not enough, I felt.
So we left Nickelodeon in 2018, and I thought, you know, I want to make a Christian cartoon.
And we made a cartoon called The Garden Cartoon.
It stars a little lamb named Lucy the Lamb and Lenny the Lion.
And they live and work in a miraculous garden where anything can grow.
You can grow any.
We plant a trumpet, you get a trumpet tree.
If you plant an idea, you get an idea bush, all that kind of stuff.
And so what's really fun about it is God comes down as a rainbow and talks to them, gives them an assignment, and they normally need some help fixing it up.
And then through Scripture and a Bible story, they learn how to do it better.
And kids can learn it better, too.
And it's not just a TV show, because you've added a whole new dimension with games and other teaching materials that supplement the cartoons.
Absolutely.
Well, we have the cartoon, which is available on our Garden app.
You can get the app on the App Store or Google Play.
And we have the shows.
We have games.
We have Bible study on the app.
We have all kinds of fun stuff.
We have coloring books.
We have all kinds of merch.
We have a website, GardenCartoon.com.
So we really want to make this into something as big as VeggieTales or something like that.
So, you know, I think a lot of parents, they want good content for their children and their grandchildren.
Yeah.
And so much of it today, stuff that used to be safe a few years ago, you can't trust the Disney material anymore.
It's just atrocious.
Yeah, I mean, you know, the world's always been a challenging place forever.
And so, you know, I'm about to be a grandfather, as a matter of fact.
And so you can applaud for that.
Yeah, it's great.
It's better than being a parent.
I can attest to that.
You see, it's much better.
Right, right.
So, I mean, I'm so excited.
But, you know, I want to make sure that, you know, parents, grandparents, no matter who they are or what they do, they can find a safe cartoon for their kids to watch.
But one that's also entertaining, too.
We really work really hard to make this as entertaining as possible.
Because kids are pretty media savvy.
Oh, these days for sure.
If it's not great production values, they just won't even pay attention.
Well, I think it's got to have a great story, number one.
And we have really, really funny stories.
I'm using all of my Hollywood experience, bringing it to bear for this cartoon.
I've got some amazing writers, some amazing people helping me do the cartoon.
We have a song in every episode that teaches kids scripture.
Because I grew up watching Schoolhouse Rock, which was a show back in the 70s, which was a long ago era.
But the Schoolhouse Rock would teach you a noun as a person plays her thing, or I'm just a Bill.
And I would learn through these songs.
So we can teach scripture through song.
So we have 40 original songs in this show, and it's really, really, really, really fun.
What's the reaction from parents and from the kids?
What do you hear from them?
Oh, everybody so far.
We've got nothing but positive feedback and everyone's saying, where can I get more?
Where can I see more?
And so we're about to go wide in August to a whole bunch of new platforms in August.
We've got a brand new distributor.
It's going to go worldwide.
We're going to be in different languages.
We'll be on iTunes.
We'll be all over the place.
And so it'll be really, really great, but a lot easier to see the garden.
And so we want you guys just to check it out and just really enjoy it.
Okay, Butch, you're a talented artist and I don't think we can let you get out of here without Maybe doing a quick picture for us.
You want to do that?
I want to draw a really funny cartoon character right now.
I think something that would really be popular, I think, would put this character on TV. And perhaps this character could maybe have their own show, make kids laugh, and perhaps if we sell it right, I mean, this could be the next Mickey Mouse, I think.
I'm just thinking.
So let's see.
I think if we, or I could at least run for governor.
What do you think?
Could be.
I see where you're going with this.
Yeah.
I've been made to look worse.
That's for sure.
So I'm thinking that we call this Huckabare.
We put some bear ears on him.
I thought you were going to call it Mikey Mouse or something like that.
All right, there you go.
Huckabee hounds in one of those cartoons.
And then we have our little suit down here.
Oh, nice.
And so, you know, so there we go.
I think this guy'd be really, really fun.
There's a future here.
Yes, there is.
For the Garden Cartoon, it's a great way to introduce small children to the stories and lessons of the Bible.
If you want to find links to download the app, to access the shows, games, and a lot more, and to get the Garden Children's Bible and Music Album, go to Huckabee.tv and we will connect you.
Right now, our very animated announcer, Keith Bilbrey, will tell us what's ahead.
Well, stay right where you are.
Shonda Pierce is here when we come back.
Then a fun bluegrass performance by Rhonda Vincent on Huckabee.
Go to Huckabee.tv and get your very own made in the USA Huckabee Mugs.
Huckabee Mugs, T-shirts and more.
Music.
Welcome back.
Folks, Shonda Pierce is just one of my very favorite people and the record industry's best-selling female comedian of all time.
No one close to her.
That's a big deal.
But you might be surprised to know that her life hasn't always been a barrel of laughs.
And she reveals that in her new memoir.
It's called, Life is Funny Until It's Not.
I love this book so much, I wrote the forward.
And we're going to talk about that.
But right now, get ready to laugh with the hilarious Shonda Pierce.
It's kind of funny.
I'm not going over there to do stand up.
I'm coming over to just sit down.
I know.
This is a new thing for you to come over here and talk to me instead of going over there and making me wonder how much of this do we have to edit out?
There we go.
That's why they don't let me do it anymore.
Look, you're welcome here any and every time.
Thank you.
How's the book going over?
Do you know, for the last two weeks, it's been number one, number two, and number three on Amazon.
Wow.
That's...
I mean, only the Beatles have had that kind of success, right?
Well, most of the Beatles are dead, so there you go.
Yeah.
But I think the reason it's selling so well is because the guy that you asked to do the forward...
Yes.
I'm pretty sure that's why it's number two.
Oh, okay.
I thought you might toss me a little bit of props here on this, Shonda.
Just a little.
But I will say this.
They need to know this.
We were on a flight, a long, long, long, long flight from the Mediterranean or from Israel.
I don't remember.
I think it was from Israel.
But I said, would you consider writing a foreword to this book?
He goes, yeah, I need to read it.
So I emailed it to you on the flight.
You read it and wrote the foreword and didn't sleep for the whole 14-hour flight.
That's true.
I did.
That's such dedication.
Yeah, it's, you know, I wouldn't do it for everybody, but I would do it for you.
I would.
That was so sweet.
You know, one of the things that I found about the book, and I told you this, It was a beautiful story of your life, but it's not all pleasant.
There's some tough, tough things.
I mean, it's...
It's rough.
I do think sometimes, I think my fan, you know, in 32 years of doing this, I did want to get to the place Where I tell the whole story.
There is so much material between the highs of life and the lows of life.
That journey in between is where you learn things the right way and you learn things the wrong way.
And I did both.
I am not a fan of Christian icons.
I just feel like we who call ourselves Christ followers need to follow Christ and not to be on a pedestal.
And I was always so afraid that when I retire or when I'm finished, I don't want to be put on that pedestal.
And I think after reading this book, they might not even buy a ticket in it.
No, you know what?
I think it will give people encouragement to know that you've given them so many laughs, so many things to love about life, but it doesn't come from a life that has not been under extraordinary challenges and difficulty.
And that's what was so...
I think the word would be raw.
It was just so very powerful.
I have had death of every kind in my life.
I have been sexually abused.
I have been abused by parent.
I have walked a very, very dark road.
I'm not the only one that's ever done that.
And I think it's always interesting that there are a lot of comedians out there that have gone through very dark places.
And I think they decide...
At some point in their life that the laughter is so good medicine, they want to be a part of it in some way.
And so that's how it turned out for me.
But in this book, my goal is that someone closes it and goes, there must be a God because there is no other way.
There's just no other way.
Yeah.
So one of the things you reveal in here is that you have a tattoo.
I mean, that's a huge revelation, Chandra.
Yes.
You know, I've done jokes about it, but now it's gone, and I can't really tell you where it's slipped off to.
See, I was going to ask, are you going to show us the tattoo?
No.
Actually, don't do that, because I think I may know.
It used to be romantic.
It was a real romantic gesture between my husband and I, but now he's gone, and now I don't know if I ever get married again.
It's bad to know that your beloved's name is in your butt crack somewhere.
I knew you would get there sooner or later.
I really did, but I was hoping maybe it would be off camera, not on.
But you know what, Shonda, one thing about comedy a lot of people don't understand.
The reason it's funny to us and that we laugh is because when a comedian tells a joke, it is so much like something that we have lived that we can relate to it.
Right.
But you just tell it in a way that makes it funnier than the way we've lived it.
Yeah.
I mean, that's the essence of comedy.
I think the real Shonda fan probably won't be surprised by much of this.
You know, I've alluded to it a lot down through the years.
At the end of every Shonda show, at the end of every Shonda video, everything I've ever done always leads up to a point in the night And the point has always been, there is a God who loves you, who sent a son to die for you so that you can live abundantly, even no matter what life brings your way.
And that's never changed in 32 years.
And so I decided to write all of it out so you could read it all in one setting and then stop buying tickets so I can retire.
No, we're going to keep buying tickets because we want to keep seeing you in your live performances.
They're fantastic.
The book is called Life is Funny Until It's Not.
And I tell you, you're going to love it.
And not just because of the brilliantly written forward.
That's a big part of it, of course.
But seriously, this book will encourage you because you'll realize this lady who makes us laugh has had a lot of moments in which nothing was funny.
And yet she still is able to love God and love us.
