Tonight on Huckabee, Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy.
Girl vs.
Dough blogger Stephanie Wise.
Unforgettable magic moments with Hub.
Country hit maker Craig Campbell.
That's Dre Corley and the Music City Connection.
And I'm your announcer, Keith Bilbrey.
And now, here's Mike Huckabee! - And welcome everybody. here's Mike Huckabee! - And welcome everybody.
Great crowd, enthusiastic.
We love that.
Folks, I've been taking groups of people to Israel since 1981 to experience the land of the Bible, and I'm going to be there the next several days.
Now, the toughest part of the trip is always that long flight.
But this year, I was thinking about taking a more scenic, albeit slower, form of travel.
I thought about going in a Chinese balloon.
Yeah.
I mean, maybe it wouldn't be so fast, but I get to see and hear things from that balloon that would make it pretty fascinating.
And I know I'd have a week or two to be in that balloon before Joe Biden would send a plane to knock it down.
Yeah.
Now, on the other hand, if he knew I was in it, Man, it would probably warrant an immediate scrambling of Air Force fighters, and I'd be hurtling toward Earth within minutes.
Well, this week, Joe Biden gave his State of the Union message.
I was pretty disappointed.
I was sure hoping that Kevin McCarthy would take the speech and rip it in two from the speaker's chair, just like Nancy Pelosi did to Donald Trump.
But hey, quite frankly, he is a nicer person than Nancy Pelosi, that's for sure.
And I really didn't get into the president's speech that much in part because I thought the real important speech of the night came from that new governor of Arkansas.
Yeah.
You know, that young lady who gave the Republican response at the State of the Union.
Now that was a speech.
Of course, I say that with the utmost of objectivity of...
Seriously, of course I like the speech that my daughter gave even better than the president's speech, but only in part because she's related to me.
I just thought she covered the most important observation about the challenge in America today, that this is not a Democrat versus Republican deal as much as it is common sense versus crazy.
It's crazy.
I mean, it is crazy when we send a 27-member SWAT team armed with fully automatic weapons to conduct a pre-dawn raid on former President Trump's home to look for some papers.
But we let the Communist Chinese government float a balloon over the heartland of America, including right over some of our military insulations, and we don't bother to knock it down until it's finished going across the entire country and gets out over the Atlantic Ocean.
This is as crazy as tearing down the barriers at the borders and giving a green light to millions of illegal immigrants, including drug dealers and human sex traffickers, to come right in and make themselves at home.
And it's crazy when the Marxists in our own government tell us that we ought to get rid of gas stoves and fossil fuel cars, yeah.
I mean, that's just great.
When you tell some factory worker making $40,000 a year that he ought to go out and buy an $80,000 electric car, even though he can't charge it enough to get to work every day.
It's crazy when people running our health and human services department say they don't know what a woman is.
It reminds me That it's not the first time people in government have been confused.
Watch.
Take a look at the colonel and the WAF captain that come in the base.
Boy, is she stacked.
Women officers, that's one thing I shoot on cotton, too.
What about you, Stockdale?
What do you think of them?
I ain't never seen one.
Ain't you got eyes?
Well, I want you to turn around very slowly.
and look very carefully this time, and tell me exactly what you see.
I see...
a colonel.
Yeah?
And a captain.
That's all.
And the captain's a woman, ain't she?
I don't notice whether it's a man.
Or a woman or what?
You know, what we now realize is that Andy Griffith, playing the role of Will Stockdale in No Time for Sergeants, was the beginning of wokeness in the military.
And by golly, maybe he was the father of insanity in our government.
Now, we thought all along it was something brand new, but come to think of it, in the day of that film, it was played for laughs, and it was all comedy.
But the loons in our culture now are serious, and it's not funny anymore.
It really is crazy versus common sense.
And I sure hope common sense will win.
We've got a great show ahead for you tonight.
Keith Bilbrey is going to tell us why we ought to stick around right through the break and for the rest of the show.
Well, tabletop magic with the Incredible Hub is next.
Later, country hitmaker Craig Campbell.
Stay tuned for more Huckabee.

And welcome back as we come in with the music of Huey Lewis in the news, The Power of Love, played brilliantly by our own band, Trey Corley and the Music City Connectional.
Let's give them a big name.
Thank you, sir.
Now, before we get to our next guest, I got to share something with you.
Keith, have you ever heard of a website called cooies.com?
That's one of the hundreds I've never heard of.
I haven't heard of it either.
I never have.
However, they have quite a collection of weird and hilarious photos from all over the internet.
And I found a few that I think perfectly illustrate some helpful tips on surviving the Biden economy.
Here's the first.
First tip.
Never turn down a good deal.
Like, if you buy a couch and it comes with matching drapes that you don't need, don't throw them away.
Those are perfectly good outfits for your kids.
Hey, trust me, the kids are in there somewhere, right?
Tip number two.
New cars are very expensive, so buy an older used car.
But here's a warning.
If you see a slot in the dashboard, that is for cassette tapes.
It is not an iPod docking station.
Wow.
And also, if you buy a really old car, that eight-track slot, it is not a place to store sandwiches, okay?
Just so you know.
Hey, and if your kid wants to get into BMX bike racing, but you can't afford a practice ramp, no problem.
All you gotta do is have a devoted mom and a sheet of plywood.
Yeah.
Hey, another benefit of this is mom will finally get a chance to lie down for a while.
Now, that was funny right there.
That really was.
Hey, if you have to travel but you can't afford those high airline fees for bringing your pets, just claim that they're your funny-looking toddlers who are going to be riding in your lap.
Hey, who says penguins can't fly?
You know, it's nice to see someone dressing up in a tuxedo just to fly these days.
And here's another tip.
You can save a lot of money by doing your own car repairs, but you might want to study up just a little bit first so you can diagnose what the real problem is, right?
Wow.
Okay, here is a dad tip.
Say your wife wants to host a dinner party, but you can't afford a caterer or even barbecue utensils.
No problem.
All you need is some hot dogs, lighter fluid, and a rake.
Yeah.
What do you think?
That's creative, isn't it?
Hey, and if you want to add a chopped salad, just break out your weed eater.
You got it all right there.
Finally, if you're really desperate for extra cash, you can always pick up some discarded cans to recycle.
Hey, hey, hey.
No, here's a pro tip on this one.
Start by looking in Keith's car.
That's what we did.
That's not nice.
It's true.
What we did, we took photos.
Yeah, but it's not nice.
Well, our next guest, master close-up magic in bars all over the world.
He's since gone from dive bars to Fortune 500 companies and the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.
He's also the host of the Enchanted Escape Magic Show at the Lost Inferno in Arn County, California.
I want you to welcome, for our wonderful entertainment, please welcome Hub!
Hey!
Thank you, Doug.
Trey, thank you so much.
Perfect.
Gov, thank you so much for having me.
Rubik's Cube.
Rubik's Cube.
When I was a little kid, my mom would mix up the Rubik's Cube every morning, and she'd put it in my lunch.
And every day at lunch, I would sit there and try to solve the Rubik's Cube.
We did this over and over and over, and I got pretty good at it.
But now that I'm a magician, I'm going to show you guys how I, as a magician, solve the Rubik's Cube using the magic bag.
Really high tech there.
Just like lunch, right?
Uh-huh.
My Rubik's Cube would go in the magic bag, okay?
We'd say the magic phrase.
Mine goes like this.
Ziggy, zoggy, ziggy, zoggy, oi, oi, oi.
Ziggy, zoggy, ziggy, zoggy, oi, oi, oi.
And just like magic, guys, remember, because this is the magic bag, it comes out completely solved.
What?
No, no, no.
It's okay, Gov.
I know you're on to me, but there's nothing.
Nothing.
Oh, you're holding something.
You're right.
I am holding something.
But that's not another ribbon, Steve.
That's my drink.
So, cheers, everybody.
Thank you so much.
Okay.
All right.
I'm a deck of cards here.
It's apple juice, I'm sure.
Yeah.
Apple juice for sure.
Yeah.
I'm going to share with you guys something that's taking me my entire life to master.
Okay.
Okay?
I've been fascinated with memory.
Now, Gov, in a second, I'm going to have you select a card.
All right.
But that card's going to be a mystery to all of us.
Okay.
And then, Trey, you're going to pick a card.
Okay.
That's going to be a mystery just to me.
Okay.
So, Gov, as I go through the cards, you say stop.
Okay.
Okay.
Stop.
Right there?
This first one, like I said, that's a mystery one.
We're going to leave it right there on the table.
Trey, I'm going to go through the cards.
You say stop whenever you want.
Stop.
Great.
You're going to take this card.
You're going to show it to everybody here but me.
And I'll close my eyes and look away.
So everybody look at the card and remember it.
Got it, Trey?
Got it.
Don't forget the card, and I'll have you put it back right here for me.
Okay.
Big numbers for Trey.
It's okay.
Great.
Because I'm not going to find that card, Trey.
That's great.
Too easy.
You can go anywhere and have somebody have you pick a card, and they'll find it.
I'm going to try something a little bit harder.
Okay.
I'm going to go through this entire deck, and I'm going to memorize the entire deck.
Remember where every single card is, the card before it, the card after it.
It only takes about 10 or 15 minutes, so if you'd like to go to commercial break, we'll get that...
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
We'll do it in 10 seconds.
We're going to count down all together.
Everybody here, we're going to count down from 10. I'm going to go through the cards and memorize the deck.
Ready?
10. Keep going.
9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. All done.
I know.
You memorized the card.
Yeah, that seems crazy.
Okay.
Let me prove it to you.
Trey, if you tell me what your card is, I'll tell you exactly where I saw it in the deck.
Okay, three of diamonds.
Three of diamonds.
Ooh.
Okay, the three of diamonds was exactly ten cards from the top.
The card before it was the four of clubs.
The card after it is the ace of spades.
No way you know that.
Okay, I have to prove it, right?
Okay, ready?
Yes.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
The ninth card here is the four of clubs.
Okay.
And then after that, it was your?
Three of diamonds.
Three of diamonds.
And that was the ace of space.
Thank you.
Wow.
I'll take it a step further.
I'll take it a step further.
After the ace of spades is the two of hearts.
After the two of hearts is the six of clubs.
So that's the two of hearts and the six of clubs.
Let me explain how this works, okay?
Every card cues me to the next card.
So if I see a random card like the eight of spades, I know after the eight of spades is the three of spades.
And you can see that's the three of spades right there.
If we were playing a game of cards, which by the way, do not play cards with me.
I would never play cards.
I would even play cards with Trey.
If I got dealt the two of diamonds, I'm going to get the two of clubs.
Because, Trey, you're going to get a card.
Gov, you're going to get a card.
And that's the two of clubs right there.
Oh, come on.
I know that the second to last card in my hand is the six of spades.
The last one is the king of diamonds.
So that's the six of spades and the king of diamonds.
Yeah.
Yes, it is.
Now, I know where every single card on the deck is.
And there's one card I didn't see in the deck.
The mystery card.
Trey, will you turn that over and show everybody the jack of diamonds?
Oh.
Give a big round of applause.
Thank you.
The jack of diamonds.
Yes, it is.
Wow.
Thank you.
Can I just be honest for a second?
You weren't honest before.
No, not at all.
Okay.
We want you to be honest.
I'm just showing off at this point, okay?
But if I really wanted to show off, I could find the other three jacks.
And I'll do it one-handed.
All I have to do is give the cards a one-handed cut.
And this will not bring the jack to the top.
That's not a jack.
That's because I'm not left-handed.
I'm right-handed.
And I put the jack of clubs under my drink right in front of you, Gov.
Right there.
There it is.
One card under the drink.
Go ahead and show them the jack of clubs.
The jack of clubs.
Yeah.
All right.
That's it.
That is.
When did you put that under there?
You missed it, didn't you?
I did miss it.
Yes, I did.
Did you guys see him put it there?
I did.
I saw that one.
Oh, you saw that one?
I saw that one.
Okay, it's fair.
Now, Gov...
I was watching him.
The next two jacks aren't here at the top, and they're not here at the bottom, Trey.
But I'm going to do what I said the first time.
This time, I'm going to give the cards a one-handed cut just like that, and that will bring the jack of hearts to the top of the deck just like that, the jack of hearts right there.
That's crazy.
I was impressed that he caught the card.
I know, me too.
So we're missing one last jack, the jack of spades.
I'm going to give the cards one last shuffle to make it even harder.
But my job is to also track where that jack of spades has moved.
Now if I could do that, I knew originally the jack of spades was 21 cards from the top.
After that now, it's in the 36th position.
The 36th position.
We don't have to count to it.
I'll find it with one finger out of the middle of the deck right there, one-handed, the jack of spades.
Of space, right there.
Thank you guys so much.
My name is Hub.
That is awesome.
Thank you.
Wow.
Thank you so much.
You know, if a person goes by just one name, you know they're good.

Right now, we've got some magical music that's about to happen.
Keith Bilbrey is standing over there trying to figure out how we did this, and he's going to tell you what we have on the show.
I know how he did it.
I could do it.
No, I can't.
Newsback CEO Chris Ruddy sits down with Mike Next and girl versus dough baker Stephanie Wise with a delicious Valentine's dessert.
You're watching Huckabee.
Huckabee.
Huckabee. Huckabee. Huckabee. Huckabee.
Huckabee.
Huckabee.
Huckabee. Huckabee. Huckabee.
Huckabee.
Huckabee. Huckabee.

You may have heard, late last month, DirecTV and its parent company, AT&T, made the decision to drop one of the fastest growing and top news networks in America, Newsmax.
And it's prompted calls from lawmakers to investigate the real motive behind this move.
A lot of them are saying, hey, this is censorship.
It's political bias.
And I'll tell you, somebody else believes that.
Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy.
He's with us right now to nail it all down.
Please welcome to the show, Chris Ruddy.
Chris, great having you here.
First of all, Governor, I'm honored to be here.
It's not every day I sit next to the father of a future president of the United States.
You know, who knows?
This State of the Union thing was tremendous because it showed such, and she talked about the contrast, but it was so clear that the future of America is your daughter and the Republican Party, and the Democrats don't have a lot to offer.
Well, they have a few people who are 75 and above, but that's their youth group that comes in.
With 20% inflation wiping out your...
Value and income.
It's scary what's going on.
You know, Newsmax has been around for a while.
We were a digital media site.
We became a cable TV channel.
No one could believe it.
In just a few years, we went from nothing to be the fourth highest rated cable news channel.
Reaching 25 million Americans regularly, and that's according to Nielsen, so it's not my number.
And we have had tremendous success.
We got on every major cable system.
We were up for renewal last year.
And you know what?
Hundreds of cable companies renewed with us.
Dish, for instance, has us.
And everything was going fine.
And we're up with renewal for AT&T and DirecTV this January.
They said we're not going to continue you unless you accept zero cable fees.
Now, explain that because a lot of people, they don't understand how the whole business works.
So I want you to walk us through cable companies, in order to have the program that they can offer their viewers, typically pay the networks some type of carriage fee.
Well, customers pay the cable companies, right?
And then they go out and they basically lease channels like CNN, Fox News, ESPN. And they'll pay those channels from the customer's money that comes in.
And the customers obviously want those channels, so the higher rated channels usually are the most valuable, and we're pretty highly rated, and certainly in news.
We're top 20 cable channel overall.
And DirecTV said, you know what?
We're not going to pay Newsmax any fee.
We're going to pay you zero.
And we're like, well, everybody else gets paid.
Everybody else gets a fee.
We're asking for such a silly low amount.
It was $1 per cable subscriber per year.
CNN gets $14.
A dollar a year is all you want.
And CNN gets $14 a year.
They called this excessive...
And we were deplatformed.
Now, what's amazing is this is the second conservative channel deplatformed by AT&T Directive in a year.
They got rid of One America, OAN, which was a popular conservative channel.
This whole started under Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats.
They wrote a letter to AT&T and other cable companies saying, please remove One America, Newsmax, and Fox News because they're spreading disinformation.
And you know what?
AT&T has complied with two of the three.
So we're fighting back.
We're telling Americans about the bias.
A lot of companies would just go quietly into the head about this, but not us.
And, you know, it's part of, Governor, a larger trend we're seeing of the censorship going on across the board in social media, in television, and now big tech and big media.
But what makes this so very outrageous is that they are responding to people who hold public office Who have pressured a business to disenfranchise An information service and a news service.
That's frightening.
Well, it's actually illegal and a violation of constitutional rights for government to work with private organizations to suppress my speech, restrict and limit my access to public carriers like AT&T. And we know now very strong evidence this took place because of the Twitter files.
And they show that the FBI actually colluded with Twitter to restrict.
And Newsmax was one of those companies restricted.
And you know what?
I think it's the tip of the iceberg.
I think that they did it with Facebook.
They did it with other social media and Google.
And we were restricted, especially after the 20 election, you know, and even before that.
We weren't allowed to report on the Hunter Biden laptop.
And they said it was Russian disinformation.
They now later admit two years later.
But the left is so...
Hostile now, so militarized and polarizing, they want to close down conservative media and conservative voices.
It's a real threat to the Constitution.
And Ben Carson is a big supporter of us in this.
He says that it's a threat to the Constitution, our basic freedoms.
And it also is not fair to the marketplace because it means that the only news some people are ever going to be able to get is news that a government entity working in concert What the communications company has decided that you can watch.
That is very frightening, Chris.
Well, liberals' idea of diversity is everything is diverse except ideas.
You can't have diversity of ideas.
But there's 22 liberal news channels we count.
Like, even the Vice Channel is for millennials, left wing.
The Comedy Channel is liberal news for kids, for millennials.
And you go through this list, we count at least 22 of these liberal-leaning channels, and all now they have is Fox.
And I think that's not good, that's not diverse, but it's not balanced.
The country's 50% center-right.
We should have more voices, and they want to restrict those voices.
I think it has a lot to do with the election coming up in 2024. I don't think there's any doubt about that.
We're going to have more with Chris Ruddy right after the break.
Don't go away.
We're going to talk more about this incredible thing that you better care about because it may be happening in your household where somebody in the government decides what channels you're going to even have access to.
We will be right back.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Welcome back.
We have been talking with Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy about censorship against right-leaning media.
Chris, I'm glad you stayed with us because there's a lot more that I want to get to.
Starting with, why AT&T, DirecTV?
I mean, the other networks that kept you on, Comcast and DirecTV, you mentioned them, and the big cable operators, Verizon.
So what is it that they specifically responded to?
Did they give you any reason?
Well, they say it's a business decision.
They're running out of money.
They're running out of money.
They made $2.7 billion in profits last year.
DirecTV is still very successful.
We're talking a tiny little bit.
Compared to the hundreds of millions they pay these liberal channels, most of which, there's 22 of those liberal news channels.
We're number four.
We have higher ratings than most of them.
They're paying all of them more money than we're asking.
Was this sudden?
Did you know this was coming?
Had this been brewing for months, or did they just call you up and say, hey, we're done with you?
We had indications that they were probably going to renew us, and then they started indicating that they'd renew us, but they'd never give us one penny, which is a strange thing.
And the way the cable industry works, again, I don't want to get into the weeds too much.
If you accept zero payment from them, from DirecTV, every other cable company pays you zero.
They're all interlocked.
Hey, you know, there's a great show that also comes on on Newsmax.
The Huckabee Show comes on Newsmax on the weekend, as well as on TBN, which we are very happy that our show is also on Newsmax.
So it matters to me.
It matters to all of us on this show.
It's important that we have more voices, not less.
And I think AT&T used to be a very traditional corporate button-down company.
I think it's changed in recent years.
They were very anti-Trump.
They owned CNN during the period.
It became very weaponized against Trump, against the Republicans.
The new owners, they spun it off.
They're really trying to clean it up.
But you know what?
All the other cable companies to one degree or another are more liberal and more left, but they still believe in diversity of voices and opinion.
And we have found a home in across America and people are tuning in.
The numbers are fantastic for Newsmax and they keep growing.
But just this week, you've had a magnificent letter of support From the Jewish community, some of the heaviest hitters in the Jewish leadership of the nation, including people like Alan Dershowitz and former Ambassador David Friedman.
The list is long.
It's incredibly impressive.
I mean, how can they ignore the...
Most of the Jewish leaders that signed on, I wouldn't say, are conservative politically.
They're just fair-minded.
They care about the coverage about Israel because they see how much bias it is.
And they care about anti-Semitism.
They know Newsmax covers that.
We cover traditional values.
We celebrate the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Most networks don't.
We've gotten very strong support from the Christian community.
The 700 Club did a report.
There's Tony Perkins, Troy Miller at the NRB. Many people are speaking out.
President Trump has spoken out, and he said he's so angry about this, he's encouraging people actually to boycott and cancel DirecTV and AT&T. And it's a way people, I think, can vote with their pocketbooks if they agree with that view.
We believe that, obviously, and I think you said it, that if people, they don't like conservatives at DirecTV and they don't like people that have traditional values...
Those folks can just go to another service.
It's a free country.
It is a competitive industry.
What are the ways that just somebody watching us right now, how can they help?
What can they do?
Well, we have an online petition page.
It's IWantNewsMax.com.
IWantNewsMax.com.
If they want to call DirecTV or AT&T, we have a number set up.
It's 877-NEWSMAX. Very easy to remember.
Mm-hmm.
And we also have, if you call 877 Newsmax, we can connect you to Congress.
And we're informing Congress because this is an issue.
It's not a financial issue.
It's about censorship.
It's about focusing and them targeting on a media company that's the fourth largest media channel, news channel in the nation, and essentially trying to put it out of business, trying to demonetize it.
And people are outraged.
Ted Cruz has spoken very loudly about this in Congress.
He has.
We have a number of supporters that have come out.
There have been about more than a dozen senators.
I would say there's been about 70 to 80 congressmen that have spoken out.
Ken Buck, who's tremendous out of Colorado, let 18 congressmen took to the House floor, took it over for one hour, and just went on speeches about the censorship attack on Newsmax.
So it's uplifting when you see really true public servants taking a stand.
And we really appreciate our viewers taking a stand with us.
Well, you got a lot of support out there.
I've been reading Newsmax Magazine for many, many years.
I've watched the birth of the Newsmax channel when it first came out and then have watched the explosive growth.
And you've got some of the top talent in TV news on Newsmax.
So it is something that people are gonna want.
Chris, I wanna say thanks for coming.
Thanks for giving us the insight to the story.
Now, please know that you can find Newsmax on most cable providers and online, and you might even be watching us on Newsmax right now.
But we also have links to connect you with Newsmax on our website.
So if you go to Huckabee.tv, we will have a link.
You can connect to Chris Ruddy and Newsmax on social media and sign that petition and let your voice be heard.
Please do it.
Right now, Keith Bilbrey is going to give us the real news on the rest of the show.
Incredible home chef Stephanie Wise is about to amaze you.
And later, the amazing music of country star Craig Campbell, all still ahead on Huckabee.
Go to Huckabee.tv and get your very own Made in the USA.
Huckabee mugs, t-shirts, and more.
Huckabee.
Thank you.
We are about to have some fun around here.
Stephanie Wise is the creator of the popular food blog called Girl Versus Dough.
She's also the author of a new cookbook that we've got right over here.
It's called Comfort Baking, Feel Good Food to Savor and Share.
I like that, feel good food.
She specializes in making cooking simple.
Right now, the ultimate challenge, can she make it simple enough For me to be able to do it.
Please welcome Stephanie Wise.
Thank you, Stephanie, for coming.
Yeah, thanks for having me.
We're going to make a cake for Valentine's.
We are, yes.
We're going to make a white chocolate peppermint crunch cake.
White chocolate peppermint crunch.
It sounds wonderful.
I see the finished version, but you're going to show us how we get to that.
Yes, so we will just get right into it.
We are going to, well, you are going to start with the flower.
Okay.
And the baking powder and salt.
Put it in this bowl?
Put it in there, and then you'll use this whisk.
Just mix that together.
So we're starting with the dry ingredients, this as well.
The baking powder?
The baking powder and the salt.
Okay.
Just whisk that together.
All right.
Until that's all nice and mixed.
I'm really good at this, by the way.
So far, you're doing great.
Yes.
Amazing.
Great job, yes.
Okay.
So the next step is we're going to be using the stand mixer over there.
So we're going to combine butter and shortening in the stand mixer.
Oh, in this?
Mm-hmm.
Yep.
Oh, we're actually going to do it, aren't we?
We are doing it, yes.
Well, this little doodad isn't hooked up.
Yeah, I know.
I know they didn't.
Should we do it?
I think, yeah.
We're going to have to do it, aren't we?
Yeah, we've got to make this cake, so...
All right, that's in there.
It's all right, it's okay.
All the butter?
All that butter.
Hey, two full sticks of butter!
A lot of butter in this recipe.
No wonder it's good!
When you use that much butter, it's going to be good.
It's going to be really good.
Okay, so then we're going to lift this up.
We made it an engineer.
Okay, so then we're going to just mix that just a little bit.
And that takes a few minutes usually, but for the sake of time here, we can keep going.
So once that is mixed together, you're going to be adding three cups of sugar.
Three cups of sugar.
We got some Southerners in the house.
Yeah, we do.
It's very, yeah.
Put it in yet?
Yep, slowly put it in there.
Okay.
Yeah, there you go.
Okay.
And this is called creaming, so we're making sure that the butter, the shortening, and the sugar are all working together.
It helps the sugar dissolve.
And get really mixed into the butter.
So every single bite has a little bit of butter, a little bit of shortening, a little bit of...
As it should.
Yes, a little bit of sugar.
So once we've got that, we add five eggs.
Okay.
Into the mixer?
Yep, into the mixer.
I should crack them first, shouldn't I? That might be good.
Yeah, you might want to do that.
Am I good or what, huh?
Five eggs is $3,000.
One actually got in there.
Oh, no!
If it's a little crunchy, you'll know what.
I think that little rascal's in there.
Hold on.
Wait, wait, wait.
Okay.
You know, a chef I work with has said that you need to add one whole egg with the shell to know that it was homemade.
There you go.
There you go.
You know, that's going to keep me from getting the job that I've always wanted at the Waffle House.
Which, by the way, it is my happy place.
I love it.
Yeah, it's good.
But I don't know that they're going to let me crack eggs.
I really used to not be this bad at it.
And you're doing it with my hand.
It's only on the half shell, Stephanie, so it's not the full thing.
Okay.
So now we're going to add buttermilk, regular milk, and then this is a mixture of peppermint extract and vanilla extract.
So that's where the peppermint gets added to the mix.
I love buttermilk in any recipe.
Mm-hmm.
And put this in here.
And that as well?
Mm-hmm.
All right.
The recipe is going to be on our website, so people can try to make this before Valentine's Day.
Not Thanksgiving.
Now what do we do?
Now we have the flour, so we probably want to stop the mixer so it doesn't go flying everywhere.
Oh, that would be fun.
We'd aim it over a tray.
So just put all of this in there.
Just put that in there.
You can't.
You know, the audience should at least go, ooh, ah, ooh.
Yes.
Bowl is kind of hard to get in there.
I know, it is a big bowl.
That's a big bowl, darling.
Yeah!
Yeah!
Now we're talking.
All right.
Okay, now we push this little dude back in there and turn her on to what, two?
Just the low.
Yeah, as low as possible.
That's as low as it goes right there.
So then that's going to mix together until it forms a batter.
Okay.
Then you would end up, you would pour that into these cake pans.
We have three eight-inch cake pans.
We're going to skip that step just a little bit.
We're going to skip right to the good stuff, aren't we?
Yeah.
And so then we've got the three cakes right here.
Okay.
And this is the frosting, which we have some of the ingredients laid out.
Now, are you sure that if I do this cake, it's going to look like that when it comes out of the oven?
I think it, yes.
There's real hope for that.
Yeah.
Okay, good.
I have confidence.
Love it.
All right.
Yep.
So, we already have the frosting ready to go, but it's a white chocolate frosting, so you melt white chocolate chips.
Okay.
And then you would cream the powdered sugar and three sticks of butter.
Three sticks of butter.
Whoa!
Yeah!
Oh, my friend Paula Deen would love this cake, wouldn't she?
Yes, she would.
Five sticks of butter.
Five sticks of butter.
Highly recommended by your cardiologist, I'm sure.
And then that gets all mixed together.
There's a little bit of vanilla as well.
And it looks like this.
So you have all this stuff, which we'll have on the website.
It's going to end up.
It ends up like that.
It's turned into a small amount compared to all that.
Well, I know, it kind of...
You didn't eat one of those sticks of butter before, did you?
Okay, so this is how it ends up.
We've got the cake.
Now we frost it?
Now we frost it.
Do I get to do that?
Yeah.
You know, I can do meats and stuff, but I've never been good at baking.
No, it's great.
So let's see.
My wife will never let me paint anything for what's about to be an obvious reason.
Well, what's great about this cake is no matter how much frosting you put on there or how good you are at frosting it, there's plenty of sprinkles that will cover up all of the...
See, I love the frosting.
So when I get the piece of cake, I eat the frosting part first.
Say, anybody want some of this cake?
I want to share.
Now, you started a blog, and I was saying you went to journalism school, right?
I did, yeah.
That's my degree.
So how do you go from journalism school to running a food blog and writing cookbooks?
Yeah.
I was a journalist for about two years, and it just wasn't the right fit for me.
So my passion was really in baking and writing, and the blog was a good...
It's a mix of the two, and so I started that kind of on the side, and then it grew to be a career, and it's been 13 years now.
Now, did your family, your mother, grandmother, did they teach you how to do this stuff?
They did, yes.
My grandmother, my great-grandmother, you're doing a great job.
My mother and my grandmother.
That's great.
That's really good.
My grandkids would be licking this right here.
So usually, in between the layers, we would put some sprinkles as well.
That's where some of the crunch comes in.
I did not have the time, because of television, to do it as nicely as I would like to have done it.
But this is, it would look like that.
And then you sprinkle the little doodads on there.
You sprinkle the doodads on there, yes.
Just to show everyone that I can.
There you go.
There we go.
Very nice.
You went right for the pink ones.
I liked it.
Yeah.
It's still going to teach.
I'll save a few of these for you.
Thanks.
Not the cake, but the sprinkles, okay?
Beautiful.
All right.
Okay.
We have a finished product, but I want to know, do we get a piece of the cake?
Oh, yes.
We absolutely get a piece of the cake.
Well, if you want to find Stephanie Wise's Girl vs.
Dough blog with hundreds of very easy recipes like you've seen here tonight, and to get her great new cookbook called Comfort Baking, just go to Huckabee.tv.
Now, she's going to serve me up a piece of cake while she's doing that, and you will watch me eat a large portion of it with some extra frosting that I'm about to apply.
Keith is going to tell us what we're cooking up next.
Oh, Governor, you are one egg-breaking master, I'll tell you.
Country hitmaker Craig Campbell talks to Mike and performs his new single coming up next on Huckabee.
Thank you.
Fierce.
Fierce.
A-ha!
A-ha! A-ha!
Oh, too bad I would still be eating cake if I could get away with it, but I can't.
And frankly, I don't want to because we got a great guest coming up right now.
And that is because since his debut Family Man hit the top 15, Craig Campbell has released a whole string of hits, including Out of My Head and I'm glad to be here.
This is great.
New project.
I mean, it's literally in the oven.
It's about to come out and get frosted and served.
So tell us about the Lost Files exhibit.
That's got to be the most unusual title for a country album I've ever heard.
Well, the Lost Files, it alludes to the fact that it's been in the oven for about eight years.
These are songs that I've recorded over the past eight years that In one way you could look at it, they were recorded, done, ready to go.
But the record labels at the time had one reason or another didn't want to put these songs out.
So they just have been living on hard drives.
And now that I'm an independent artist, I just felt like these are songs that I love.
They need to be released and get a chance to live.
Do you feel a new sense of freedom as an independent artist?
Because so many people are just controlled by a label and they tell you what you can sing and how long the song can be and what it's gonna sound like.
And you now can make your own art out of these songs.
100%.
Now that I am independent, I'm happier now than I've ever been because, you know, I get to record what I wanna record, the way I wanna record it.
You know, I feel like I'm a decent piano player.
I played piano for Luke Bryan for a while.
I played piano for Tracy Bird.
I feel like I can do that.
Yeah.
You know who's gonna love it?
Your fans.
I believe it.
Because, you know, one of the things that I love about your music, Craig, is that it's authentic country.
You know, at a time when a lot of country artists don't sound like country anymore.
Those of us who like our country music, really country, they're going to love this music that you've put together because it's authentic country.
And your voice has such power to it.
And I think it's going to be a huge hit, and I really want people to get it.
But, you know, you do more than just music.
You ran for city council.
I did.
What were you thinking, Craig?
You know, last time I was...
Last time I was here, I just felt like, man, I want to get into politics after I met you.
Really?
No, it's not true at all.
Okay, I didn't think so.
I was going to say, no way!
You know, I have a business.
I own a small business down in Eagleville, Tennessee.
A coffee shop, music venue.
What's the name of it?
Grindstone Cowboy, if anybody wants to come see us.
Isn't that a great title for a coffee shop?
Yeah, and so I just felt like being part of the community, sometimes you hear about things after it's too late.
Yeah.
So City Council was a way for me to get in and hear about things and keep my ear to the ground and get ahead of things that are either coming or going to happen to our city so we can have a game plan.
That's awesome.
You know, it is one of the hardest jobs in politics.
I tell everybody, I told you backstage, city council, school board, and county commission.
Hardest three jobs in politics because there is no filter between you and somebody who wants their pothole fixed or their trash picked up.
They're going to call you and say, I want it done and I want it done today.
You know, everybody's telling me to get ready because people are going to be calling me to help them fix their tickets.
Speeding tickets.
Well, Keith has recently gone through that, you know, but he just went to driving school and actually did.
And instead of getting it fixed, we got Keith fixed is what happened.
But he went to school so he could learn how not to be in trouble.
So just tell him, just do what Keith Bilbrey did.
It's the best way to do it.
Give me some advice when we get there.
I got you.
I got you covered.
He's got you covered.
Well, best of luck on The Coffee Shop, Grindstone Cowboy.
Grindstone Cowboy.
And most importantly, I want this music to be very successful.
Number one, it deserves to be because it's great stuff.
And number two, I love it that you've taken the risk to be on your own and to do the artistry that you want to do.
And I wish more people had the guts to do that.
Hey, let's make some music tonight.
What do you say?
I'm ready.
All right, while Craig is going to get ready to perform, Keith Bilbrey will be telling our viewers how to get the music of Craig Campbell.
To pre-order Craig's new album, The Lost Files, Exhibit A, and find tour information, social media links, and more, just visit Huckabee.tv.
You can also watch an exclusive performance of That's How We Get Down.
Now, performing his new single, Tractor Songs, with Trey Corley and the Music City Connection and Mike on Bass, here's Craig Campbell!
Thank you!
