#659 I thought they wanted to defund police.. Ironic (preview)

TODAY: We're joined by Ben Clarkson and Matt Bors, authors of the comic series Justice Warriors, to promote the second installment: Justice Warriors: Vote Harder. We talk to them about their satirical, dystopic world of government-operated killdozers collecting rent and taxes from the slums and protecting the insulated Bubble City, a paradise of diversity and tolerance and entertainment. ALSO: 5 University of California campuses receive their yearly shipment of killdozers...er less-than-lethal military policing tools. Seems like college kids have all the fun.  PLUS: In red states where the pledge of allegiance is mandatory for students, the "bill of rights" forces them to allow parents to opt out of their child reciting the pledge. One of these permission slips goes viral and confuses a million angry Facebook users. I'm looking at a Facebook post from a page called Secure America Now.
More on that later. I'm a top fan, actually.
I'm a conversation starter on the Secure America Now comment section.
It says uh so they posted an image that's gone viral like this has been this was posted pretty frequently like about a month ago um and it is a permission slip to opt out of the pledge of allegiance and it reads uh you know student like a blank you know fields for your student's name grade in school And then there's a checkbox that says, I understand my rights as a parent, and I request that my child, noted above, be excused from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
This request includes standing and placing his slash her right hand over his slash her heart.
And that's your first indication that things are wrong.
Look at how many fucking pronouns are on this thing.
They got almost all of them right there, right next to each other.
Excluding non-binary kids, no options for them.
If you're non-binary, you got a pledge of allegiance.
This is straight up cisgender excuses only.
They got a pledge. They got a pledge.
You don't have to pick a gender.
You got to pick a side though.
By the way, I would have absolutely forged this and excused myself from doing the Pledge of Allegiance when I was a kid.
Because I was like, even before I had politics, I was like, why are we doing this every day?
This is so fucking stupid.
Yeah, it's boring, and it's embarrassing.
It's like going to choir. I wish that my kid had this, because she's not a huge fan of doing the Pledge of Allegiance, but she doesn't want to opt out of it.
I was like, I don't care.
Do whatever you want to do.
If you don't want to do it, then don't do it.
But she's aware of the system that we operate in, and she's like, Yeah, but it's not going to be easy for me.
But if she could blame it on me exclusively, Dad said I don't have to do it.
Dad said he doesn't want me to do it, actually.
That'd be great. Maybe they don't have permission slips for her class specifically.
What if you got her a t-shirt that had a photo of you on it and it said, My woke daughter will not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance!
Yeah. Sorry.
Sorry. My strong, independent father who loves conservative values and God before anything does not allow me to.
Just a long Facebook man on the back.
I mean, I was honestly, I wasn't actually sure of what the framing was at first because of that.
I mean, the far right thinks that Biden's America is a communist hellhole.
Of course we shouldn't be pledging allegiance.
Right, so I think probably...
So this has 13,000 reacts, 9,000 shares, and this is just one instance of the upload.
This is just Secure America Now posting this.
Doesn't count how many times it probably went viral on TikTok, other Facebook pages, Twitter, yada, yada, yada.
On it, it has in like purple gel, jelly pen font, but in adult writing, it says...
This is the dumbest thing I've ever read and I am so ashamed of this.
But then the American flag is like on the paper right below that and so to me it kind of looks like she's saying she's ashamed of the American flag and I was like oh hell yeah but then you know kind of I had to put it together a little more and I think the other viewers of this they think this is like a permission slip to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance and not a permission slip to opt out like you're not even you you're not even allowed to not do the pledge of allegiance without a signed document from your parent and everybody is still mad about it I have to think that like at least some of these people just kind of misread what was happening and think that they're like making parents sign permission slips to which I mean I think I think you should I think it's it's not up to the teacher to tell my kid you know to to whatever to pledge allegiance to anything or anyone That's why I was a little confused at first as to the actual approach of the page.
But I think if there's any...
Of course, anything on Facebook that is being shared 9,000 times that has anything whatsoever to do with politics is for sure being misunderstood, no matter what it is.
Yeah, it's fake and it's also being misunderstood.
