It's a very special UPS Facebook group episode as we report on how the current Teamsters contract vote is driving certain people insane. We find the same neuroses around voter fraud and stolen elections the right has about the US electoral system, but ported over to a union contract vote, and I try to talk some sense into one of them. We also look at the bizarre ways right-wing Teamsters are channeling their reactionary politics into the good kind of class warfare. Last but not least, several UPSers are voting No, not because of wages or benefits, but because they have serious issues with the removal of the "very normal" and "factual" pronouns from the 2023 contract language. Man, UPS, my UPS groups have been pretty fun these past couple weeks.
Just a lot of...
Bizarre like Pete just the most the cup voting is bringing out the most unhinged Pete like the the derangement is is Being tapped into just by the mere act of yeah voting on a contract.
You're getting to see all these all these freaks You know pipe off sound off and we love to see it like You get to see amazing memes like this one Which is a two panel meme.
What's her name again?
Dylan Mulvaney?
Yeah, I think so.
Dylan Mulvaney, you know, the Bud Light TikTok influencer that everybody's mad at.
She's on the left holding a Bud Light, waving to the camera, and a little speech bubble says, yay, I'm voting yes.
So like voting yes on the contract.
Yes.
That's what, that's what, you know, Bud Light drinkers do.
That's what a Bud Light drinker would do.
Um, and you're like, but where am I represented in this?
Where's, I don't, I don't see myself in this at all.
Well, all you got to do is just look slightly to the right at the other panel, which has the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world.
Who's, yeah, they got a bottle of Dos Equis in front.
I guess it's the beer thing.
I guess that's why they picked the most interesting man in the world is because he's he's a different beer spokesperson.
And he said he's he's leaning over the table suavely and there's a speech bubble coming out of his mouth, but it's the thought bubble instead.
It's the dotted bubble.
Yeah, they kind of blew that one.
But it's like coming right out of his mouth, too.
So, hmm.
Maybe that's their way of like doing an accent, because he does have like an accent.
True.
Or maybe he's just saying it normally.
He's not saying it all like soy and trance.
He's not screeching it or whatever.
Whatever they think.
He think slash says, I don't accept the first offer.
I love how they didn't just say, I'm voting no.
They said they had to give it a little more suave, a little more to it.
You know, I do not accept the first offer.
This has been a big vote no argument.
Now, don't get me wrong.
I want to say I voted no.
I already voted no, but it's not because I have anything against Dylan Mulvaney or Bud Light.
All right.
And also the idea of like, don't accept the first offer.
I mean, it's obvious that's like, you know, negotiating 101, but they're all a lot of these people are applying it to the quote offer.
That was reached after months of negotiating and the Teamsters walked out.
I don't know, you could have your differences with the contract without implying that Sean O'Brien and Fred Zuckerman signed the first offer that UPS handed over to them.
You know what I mean?
We're not that stupid.
Also, are you late to the game?
I think the world knows that this wasn't the first offer.
You know what I mean?
Right.
But yeah, I love, I love the Dos Equis guy.
Just like millennials are reaching boomer, like the boomer state of consciousness where you just remember commercials from your teenage years.
Um, and it's, it's like from a, from like zooming out a little bit, it's so, It's so fascinating to see like actual class politics happen to people who are just totally detached from politics or not.
Well, they're they're tuned into the culture war, obviously.
Obviously.
But but like no sense of like, you know, class politics.
To engage with it, because it's like you get guys like this guy who posted this.
Arguing that voting no, withholding you, threatening to withhold your labor is the masculine thing to do is the hetero masculine thing to do, which is not like the overall consensus on the right wing.
Like you're a, you're a pussy if you're complaining for more money or, Oh, you need to beg your employer for more money.
Why don't you just start your own business?
Then you get to pay yourself.
Oh, you're in a union?
Like, I'm sorry, I don't take handouts.
Right, exactly.
Yeah.
Totally.
So it's just, it's fascinating to see these people work through this stuff and like, it kind of feels like they're backwards engineering their own cultural grievances into an actual class politics, class warfare.
Yeah.
You know, actually, what if, what if they are, what if they are like being more grand than we realize?
And they're saying Dylan Mulvaney's voting yes.
And why would you vote yes?
Budweiser did her dirty.
Budweiser hung her out to dry.
We're the most interesting man in the world.
Like I said, he had syndicated commercials for a decade.
You know, Dos Equis held him down.
And I bet you the most interesting man, when they first did this contract for the commercials, he said nope to the first one.
Yeah.
So what if they really are that that's really how like deep they're thinking?
Yeah.
Well, she's holding a product in her hand and she's saying, I'm voting.
Yes, I'm giving into the company's offer.
Like, yeah, yeah.
Maybe if you're talking about consumerism or whatever.
Sure.
But just to finish up with this meme.
So, yeah, the guy posted this to the Facebook group.
You know, oh, look at look at Dylan Mulvaney holding a Bud Light drinking a Bud Light like you're you're you're gay.
If you vote yes on this contract, because I'm likening it to Bud Light and you click on this guy's.
You click on this guy's profile picture and he's literally wearing a Bud Light tank top.
