SPD reported protesters threw rocks and fireworks and that 21 officers were injured in what the department called a riot.
This injury right here that we're looking at, this torn meniscus, is described in another piece by an ABC affiliate in Seattle.
Her injury is described as the most serious injury that any police officer should take.
This is the worst one.
This is the one they had to handpick this one because like they actually needed some sort of equipment to make themselves feel better or something like that.
They needed a crutch.
This is the most grievous injury.
They put her on camera because they couldn't put like a guy with like a little shiny red patch on his arm on camera where like a firework spark got him.

If any officer were more injured than this, we would see each and every one of them on the news.
Can you imagine if they put every protester that was injured by cops, if they sat them down in a chair across from an anchor person on your local news station and talked to them for 5-10 minutes, did a piece on every single protester who had a fractured arm?
Who has staples in their head now, who has a broken nose, who has bread loaf sized bruises on their thighs from being beaten, has torn apart ankles because they threw a flash grenade at their legs, smoke grenades at their legs.
The journalists who lost eyes because they were shot in the face with rubber.
How come we haven't seen a news piece on that?

As officers left the precinct in riot gear and gave dispersal orders, Khalifa said protesters threw rocks at them.
One rock hit her leg.
She fell sideways, twisting her knee.
Now she'll need surgery and will spend weeks off the job she loves.
Someone bonked her leg with a rock and it knocked her so off balance that she fell over and tore her meniscus.

During the protests she's faced a lot of questions.
I've had a few encounters where they're said, oh, uh, SPDC, this is the best part, SPD officials said Khalifa is among those officers who could be laid off if the police budget cut in half That's not a sentence.
If the police budget cut in half as city council members demand.
Khalifa said many recently hired officers are more diverse with better training because they come up while immersed in a culture of reform.
So to translate that, if you defund us, we are firing all the minorities and everybody who's had any sort of new training with new de-escalation tactics.
