How to survive a mass shooting - part 1

Time Text
Because there is a risk of mass shootings spreading far beyond what has taken place in Paris, France, with casualties of at least 150 people dead, perhaps 160, I'm sharing this piece called How to Survive a Mass Shooting.
This is Mike Adams.
I'm the co-founder of TalkNetwork.com.
And this is a special alert being broadcast live on the radio network, TalkNetwork.com.
Now, first I want to stress that the actual statistical risk of you being caught in a mass shooting is...
Incredibly low.
You are more likely to be struck by lightning or die in a swimming pool accident or by far die in a hospital or from a pharmaceutical side effect.
So I don't want to say that everybody's going to be overrun by mass shooters.
That simply isn't the case.
It's very rare.
It will probably never happen to you in your lifetime.
However, if it does happen, here is how to survive a mass shooting.
And if you're wondering what are my qualifications to talk about this, no, I have never been in a mass shooting, thankfully.
However, I am trained in tactical handgun combat.
And I am a well-practiced shooter and highly competent in pistols, shotguns, rifles, and long-range target shooting, like a thousand yards.
So I do have some practical knowledge and I'll share with you how to survive a mass shooting.
If you look at those who survived the Paris shootings, a couple of things come to mind.
Number one, Those witnesses who did survive, they said that the gunmen had time to reload over and over again.
So they had lots of time to keep shooting.
During this time, notably, the police were not there.
There's always a delay for law enforcement to show up.
And also notably, no one was shooting back.
That's because, of course, citizens of France are largely disarmed.
They are a gun control nation.
You might as well call Paris a gun-free zone.
And so just in the same way that shooters will target gun-free zones in America, you know, American campuses or schools, they are also, these jihadists are targeting Paris because they know that no one will be able to shoot back.
Those who survived it tended to be those who fled.
So this is tactic number one that you can always invoke, even if you don't carry a firearm or you don't have any other defenses.
You can, of course, attempt to flee.
This is also great if you're just stricken by so much fear that that's all you can manage to do.
There's no shame in fleeing a crazed gunman, by the way.
No shame in it at all, unless you leave your wife or children behind.
That would be cowardly.
Don't be the first person out the door.
Find your loved ones and let them flee in front of you.
Alright?
So let's at least practice some common courtesy there.
But by far a better response and a better way to survive would be to shoot back.
Now, this idea of shooting back, of course, it only applies to those who carry concealed firearms, such as myself and many, many other people, millions of people across the United States.
We are trained to defend innocent lives and to, if necessary, as a last resort, we can shoot back, with the support of local law enforcement, by the way.
Shooting back, of course, may subject you to an increased risk of retaliatory targeting by the other bad guys who are doing the shooting.
However, you have the element of surprise working in your favor.
Most of these gunmen do not expect anyone to shoot back because they know that most Western societies today are full of people who, in a gunfight, simply don't have the skills or the mental fortitude or the training or the hardware to shoot back.
So they don't expect anyone to shoot back, meaning that if you are...
Even one person shooting back, you can cause a lot of chaos in the ranks of the enemy.
You may sacrifice your life in shooting back, so it's not necessarily the best self-preservation tactic.
However, you will die a hero as the only person who dared to shoot back.
And that does say something.
There's some karmic value or spiritual value in that as well.
I can tell you, for me personally, I am not going to die on my knees with some crazed shooter taking out my family or friends or fellow citizens.
I'm going to shoot back against these crazed nutjobs no matter what.
Whether or not I survive it is irrelevant.
They should know if they come to Texas and they try to kidnap or take a hundred Texans hostage, there's going to be a lot of us shooting back.
And that brings me to my third point.
The best solution of all is to live in a society where people or private citizens are armed, where there is concealed carry that's legal.
And people are carrying firearms for the purpose of self-defense, because your best defense is to actually be one among many who are shooting back against the attackers.
Remember, the attackers aren't expecting anyone to shoot back.
Just one person shooting back might be able to take them all out.
But multiple people shooting back, two or three or four, now you really have not just the element of surprise, but the element of a tactical advantage.
You can then even outmaneuver the enemy.
You can flank them and attack them from the side or the rear while one of your other buddies provides suppressing fire to keep them pinned down.
Fire and maneuver.
This is the way you win these gunfights, actually.
If they even last that long.
They may not last that long.
But when the citizens are disarmed, as we saw, these gunmen have a chance to reload, shoot people, and reload, and shoot people, and reload multiple times, over and over again.
And they just methodically go down the row, killing people.
The fourth option is, even if you aren't armed, And this is a risky maneuver.
You can attempt to physically overtake the attackers.
There's a very high likelihood that you're going to get killed doing this.
But you may inspire other people to follow you.
In a typical mass shooting event like this, you only have typically two, three, or four gunmen.
But yet you might have a hundred citizens.
If those hundred citizens decide to get up and attack these four gunmen, they can very quickly overpower them.
They will take some casualties, though.
So that's not something that lots of people are willing to do.
Everybody tends to cower in fear, which is understandable if they've never been in these kinds of situations.
But typically you'll have veterans and soldiers who Guys who were in the military, who were on the front lines.
They did a couple of tours in the sandbox.
They're hardened veterans.
They are the guys who will typically get up and attack, even if they only have their fists.
And if they have a knife, even better.
You can attack with a knife.
You can disable people quite effectively with an edged weapon.
You can take their firearms from them, use them against them.
And I'm not saying that you have to have all these skills, but perhaps someone in your group does.
There are trained killers.
They were trained by the US military to be effective killers.
If they are in your group and they start the attack, do your best to support them.
Maybe you join in with them.
Maybe they attack one person, you trip somebody else.
I don't know what your skills are or your willingness to do these things, but you're in a situation where you're likely to just be executed.
You better start thinking outside the box and start helping those who have the courage and the training To try to protect your life.
So there are many things you could do.
You could throw a glass of wine in the face of one of these attackers, perhaps.
Throw objects at them.
Take off your shoes and throw a shoe.
Scream, shout, use your fingernails, claw, claw their faces.
There are lots of things you can do.
Kick them in the groin if there's access.
Most of these attackers are men, so they have a very weak vulnerability right there in the nutsack.
Swing a chair into that or something, or your knee, or anything.
You people, you can really overpower bad guys.
Look, they're not superhuman.
They're regular flesh and blood.
They just happen to have AK-47s.
Well, the good news about AK-47s is that they're really pretty crappy weapons in close-range combat.
If you get inside the range of an AK-47, which is grappling range, you can use elbows and fingernails and claws and biting and screaming and shouting and spitting.
You can do all these things against an attacker.
AK-47 is not going to help them.
The length of the barrel is already outside the range of you.
You see what I mean?
So close-combat grappling...
If you're fighting for your life, there are no rules.
Pull their hair, gouge their eyes, bite their nose off, bite their ear, scratch, scream, kick, spit, do every possible thing you can do.
Grab a fork off the table, jab it into their eye, do whatever you need to do.
Otherwise, you're going to be executed.
So stop thinking about playing nice and being polite and playing by the rules.
Either you fight back or you'd probably die.
Now again, as I said at the beginning, if you can flee, that might be the smarter move.
If you can flee.
But a lot of us, you know, we tend to be protectors.
We tend to be people who will stand up for others.
And even if we can flee ourselves, we often will not because we want to...
We want to protect other people's lives.
We want to shoot back against someone who's committing mass murder.
We want to stop that person.
And so some of us will risk our lives in order to help save other innocent lives, even if it means we die in the process.
There's no shame in dying from trying to take down a mass murderer.
No shame in that at all.
Whether you succeed or fail, you have done something for your fellow humans.
And that says something about your character.
Okay, the last piece on this is do not depend on your local law enforcement to be able to protect you.
As we saw in these Paris attacks, people...
It took many, many minutes for the police to arrive, during which people were being executed by the gunman.
If you dial 911 and you expect the police to show up in 60 seconds, you're kidding yourself.
It's not going to happen.
You need to plan to spend 10 minutes...
Surviving without the police and that is why of course concealed carry is such a great strategy for self-defense it also Of course, arms you with a weapon that you can use, a defensive weapon, to protect you from other circumstances that might occur and also be unpredictable.
Remember, the risk of you being attacked by jihadist gunmen is actually very, very small.
But the risk of someone someday attacking you, some gangbanger, mugger, rapist, whatever, is actually a lot higher.
So if you carry a concealed weapon, You can have a defense against all of the unknown scenarios that might present a risk to you in the future.
This has been a TalkNetwork.com breaking news update.
