Three shocking things you never knew about what’s in your food

There are so many things you don't know about what's really in your food or behind your food or where it comes from.
Things that you would think are totally impossible or wild conspiracy theories when you first hear it.
But if you do just even a quick search, you'd find that it's totally true.
Things like this.
Well, you know that, hopefully it's obvious, that only female chickens, in other words hens, lay eggs, right?
I hope everybody understands that.
Male chickens do not lay eggs, right?
So, well, when chickens hatch, and if you hatch a bunch of chickens, you have female chicks and male chicks, right?
Right?
Well, in the commercial egg industry and the commercial chicken industries, have you ever wondered what they do with all the male baby chicks?
You ever wondered?
See, this is where you're not going to believe it.
But I challenge you to look this up after I tell you.
All the male chickens get ground up into food, dog food and animal food.
Yeah, yep, they separate the females from the males, and the males go into a grinding machine.
And then the females are kept to lay eggs until such time as they're no longer needed, and then they get turned into meat products.
So if you're eating commercial eggs, you're actually supporting the mass murder of baby male chicks.
In other words, young roosters.
So there's actually, I mean, technically there is kind of a poultry genocidal slant to the consumption of eggs.
And almost nobody knows this.
People don't talk about it.
It turns out my knowledge base is full of all kinds of horrifying facts that no one seems to know until I mention it.
By the way, I challenge you to go ahead and look that up.
Seriously, look it up.
This is why I raise my own eggs, by the way, and we do not grind up the males, obviously.
We hatch our own chickens, and we have all the males and females all living.
And even when our hens, when they finish providing eggs after about two and a half years or so, we continue to keep them alive.
We run kind of like a hen retirement center.
Seriously.
We're like the geriatric hen refuge of Texas.
So we have senior citizen hens running around.
They don't lay eggs, but they still eat bugs.
They're still living beings.
I'm not going to chop their heads off just because they stop being useful.
We keep them alive.
We give them a healthy home, free-range existence.
They helped us for two years laying eggs, right?
So the least we can do is give them a life.
But then again, my view on this, my animal ethics and my compassion for living things is very rare in our society.
We have a commercial society where it seems like everybody else is just interested in profit, profit, profit at any cost, no matter who they have to poison or who they have to kill or what they have to kill in the process.
So they're not going to spend money to keep a chicken alive after it stops laying eggs.
They're not going to keep a young rooster alive.
They're going to throw it in the grinder.
So, the older I get, the more experience I have in this world, the more I realize that acting with actual compassion for living creatures is extremely rare.
And I know why.
Because it takes extra effort.
It takes sometimes extra money.
Sometimes it takes just an extra dedication to doing what I do.
Which is protecting life.
Even if it's just simple chickens and hens and roosters.
To me, they're worth protecting too.
Alright, now here's another example of things that you don't know about what's in your food.
So, there's...
There's an online website called dogfoodadvisor.com.
And apparently they're really well known in the dog food industry for rating dog food products.
You know, five stars, four stars, and so on and so forth.
And I emailed them and I said...
I love what you're doing.
Can we donate some laboratory efforts to you?
So we'll look at dog food.
We'll look at the composition of the dog food on the analytical instrumentation that I run in my laboratory.
And we'll do this for you for free.
And then we can find out if dog food has mercury in it or pesticides or tranquilizer drugs from veterinary animals, for example.
And I was really shocked because the answer I got back, they told me, no, we're not interested in what's inside the dog food.
We focus on what's on the label.
And that's how we do our comparison.
Just what's on the label.
And I was really, really shocked because, you know, I love the fact that they're doing what they're doing.
I'm not criticizing dogfoodadvisor.com.
I think they provide a valuable service, but How can you not want to know what's inside the can?
Given how these companies lie about their labels all the time, and given that many things that can contaminate dog food would never be listed on the label, like they're not going to put mercury on the label, they're not going to put T61 horse tranquilizer on the label, they're not going to put extra glyphosate on the label, how can you not be interested in what's in the can?
And so it just shocked me because even one of the best known dog food ratings websites out there doesn't even run any tests on what's in the cans or the bags.
It just shocked me because as a food scientist myself, I don't believe anything on the label.
I always look at what's in the food.
I do the digestion, the analysis, the mass spec, the liquid chromatography, the ICP-MS, whatever it takes.
I look at what's in the food.
That's the only way you know the truth, right?
And they weren't interested in it, it seems, which was just kind of shocking.
I'm not condemning the website or the people that run it.
They're doing a great job with what they're doing, but it's just really limited information.
It just kind of shocked me.
Alright, here's another thing that a lot of you may not know about your food and where it comes from.
Did you know that certified organic on foods that come from China is essentially a fraud?
Yeah, yeah.
You know, organic means something when it's in the United States.
And countries like Canada produce honest organics.
And the European Union, you know, European countries produce honest organics.
I trust organics from the UK or Germany or France, for example.
I do not trust any organics from China.
And it turns out that the organic standard has no limit for heavy metals.
You can literally grow organic food in China on a plot of land that was just used as a disposal area for industrial waste from a factory.
And you can still grow organic on there.
It'll be certified organic and it can be sold in the United States as organic.
Literally, they can use toxic waste as irrigation water on, quote, organic farms in China.
So it's a fraud.
And we all know how China operates anyway.
All you got to do is pay off the right people.
In China, that's how it operates.
That's how the whole country, it's communism.
Communism has no ethics.
I don't know if you ever knew that, but trust me, it's true.
Communist countries have no ethics.
Because they don't believe in individual responsibility, right?
Why should they?
The government tells them what to do.
So communist countries have the most fraud and the most cheating on systems like this, like organics.
And so while there may be a few exceptions in China, there are some goji berry growers that are honest.
And there are no doubt some exceptions in other areas of China.
By and large, organic from China is a fraud.
And it can often have toxic heavy metals, lead and cadmium and arsenic and mercury.
And I know this firsthand because I've seen this on the instrument testing these foods from China.
Isn't that fascinating?
So this is something that you also never hear in the United States.
No one really talks about this.
This is a big secret of the organic industry.
And then sometimes when I talk about it, I get attacked by organic people.
They're like, what are you, anti-organic?
No!
I love organics, but let's make it really organic.
Why should an American organic farmer be put out of business by a China organic farmer who's cheating and breaking the rules and growing toxic food and calling it organic?
Putting out of business the American farmer that should have been getting that business in the first place.
You see, I'm all for organics, but it's got to be honest organics.
And this whole situation in China, total fraud as far as I'm concerned.
It is an embarrassment to the organics industry.
An embarrassment.
They should just revoke organic from China.
Period.
Because it doesn't mean anything.
Alright, finally I'm going to wrap this up with another dirty little secret of the...
I don't know, the supplements industry or the organics industry or just food, dietary supplements.
How to tell you this?
So you know I'm a food research scientist.
I run high-end analytical instrumentation looking at the composition of foods.
And I use instruments that are so sensitive, for example, we can detect mercury down to 50 parts per trillion.
Now, what is a part per trillion?
It's one one-millionth of a part per million.
So it's a very, very small mass or volume, depending on what you're looking at.
Now, what I've found is that across the food industry, and this includes high-end organic dietary supplement companies and formulators and importers and retailers, almost no one has any understanding of what is a part per million.
I have had conversations with people that you would not believe.
I'm not going to name names because I'm not here to embarrass anybody.
I'm just saying that as a food research scientist, all day, every day, I'm dealing with parts per million.
I'm dealing with parts per billion.
I'm dealing with micrograms, nanograms, and picograms.
I'm converting micrograms per liter to parts per million.
I'm mixing external standards.
You know, how much of this in a 50-milliliter vial creates an ending concentration of 50 parts per billion for the standard, and so on and so forth.
I'm reading numbers on the screen as they come out of the instrument.
I'm looking at the standard deviations.
I'm looking at the counts per second of the atoms.
We can actually count the number of atoms of mercury or lead or cadmium or whatever is hitting the detector.
So I'm watching all these numbers and I'm doing a lot of this math and chemistry and composition.
And yet when I have conversations with people in this industry, they are freaking clueless.
They're totally clueless about what any of this means.
And I have found that there are people who are selling products in this industry who have no idea what the difference is between a part per million and a part per billion.
Some people think a part per billion is larger than a part per million.
Yeah, I know.
And obviously a part per billion is 1,000 times smaller than a part per million.
Right?
And a part per trillion is 1,000 times smaller than a part per billion.
And yet I find people that have no freaking clue.
It's as if you hand them a dollar and they think you handed them a thousand dollars.
That's how far off they are.
Or if you tell them, you owe me $1,000 and they pay you $1 and they think the debt is covered.
That's how far off they are.
Or maybe they owe you $1 million but they give you a penny and they think that's the same thing.
This is how far the errors are in the minds of some of these people.
I've had to educate people in this industry, off the record, in ways that you would not believe.
And it's just astonishing to me that there are so many people selling so many products in this industry who have no freaking idea what they are selling.
They have no idea what's in the box, what's in the can, what's in the pouch.
They've never looked at it.
They've never run the test.
They don't know how to read the test.
They don't have any understanding of concentrations, of volumetric measurements, of gravimetric measurements, of analytical science.
Nothing!
Nothing!
They have no idea of any of this, and they're selling products to people.
It just blows my mind, and it makes me say, no wonder I only buy products from my own store.
Well, with very few exceptions, but primarily I only buy products from my own store because I've learned from being in this industry that I can't trust anybody else.
I can't trust them because they don't have the knowledge.
They don't have the instruments.
They can't even speak the language of food composition.
Most of them.
There are some who can.
There are some who can, by the way.
I don't want to disparage everybody.
There are some people who know exactly what they're talking about, and I really enjoy spending time with them and talking about this, food technology and so on.
And there's a really great guy in Colorado that's doing some amazing tinctures right now who I really respect, by the way.
There are some people, Who get this, but there are a surprising number who don't.
And so, well, if you want clean food, get it from my store because I'm a fanatic about clean food.
And I get this stuff and I test everything meticulously.
And I don't eat it.
Well, I should say I don't sell it unless it's something that I would eat.
So if you want really, really clean food that's been tested by somebody who knows what the hell they're talking about, go to store.naturalnews.com.
We've got the turmeric.
We've got these amazing golden berries that are high vitamin C. We've got super clean chlorella and spirulina, acyxanthin.
We've got this amazing chemical-free soap.
And when I say chemical-free, I mean free of synthetic chemicals.
Obviously, it's not free of molecules, but it's free of synthetic chemicals.
We have such amazing products and that's what I use.
We've got this sandalwood seed oil that is just astonishing on the skin.
Sandalwood seed oil.
If you want healthy glowing skin, you've got to check this stuff out.
And it's 100% pure because we don't cut anything.
We don't put fillers in anything.
I didn't intend for this to be a plug for our store, but I'm just telling you, I'm passionate about this.
And when these products are actually legitimate and genuine and not cut with fillers, then they work.
They work great.
You know how in the literature you can find all these benefits from medicinal herbs and all these healing oils and so on and so forth?
And then sometimes you go to the store and you buy a bottle of that herb and you try it and it doesn't do anything.
Have you ever had that happen?
It's because the herb isn't in there often or it's been cut and the label is dishonest and they're lying to you or the herb has been irradiated or cooked or dried too much at high temperatures and it's destroyed all the nutrients.
There's a lot of stuff that's being sold that is just useless garbage by the time you get it or some companies, they don't even test anything so they don't even know if it's real.
Their wholesaler might be lying to them and they're buying raw materials that aren't even genuine and they package it and put it on the shelf and you're buying it and you're like, why doesn't this work?
That's why!
Because they don't have any scientific knowledge to test anything.
They have no freaking idea what they're selling.
That's why!
You get good potent stuff that's honest, that's whole, that's fully intact, like we sell at our store, stuff works.
It's amazing.
That's the real healing power of Mother Nature.
That's the way it should be.
So, these days, when I want a product in my life, like if I discover, hey, I want this oil in my life, like Clary Sage, I recently decided I love Clary Sage essential oil.
And I love the smell of Clary Sage, and I love just having a diffuser in the room and having Clary Sage in the air all around my room.
So what did I do?
Did I go out and buy somebody else's clary sage?
No.
I went to the grower in Australia, and I said, we want to buy clary sage, and we will bottle it, and we will sell it, and that's what I will buy myself.
Because then I know that it's not being cut, and it's not being adulterated, and there's no counterfeiting involved.
Then it's the real deal.
And of course, we run the tests on it as well to make sure it's real.
And so, by the way, we have a Clary Sage coming out.
It's not going to be popular.
Most people have no idea what Clary Sage is.
But you see, anytime I want a product in my life, I develop it in our own store.
I offer it to the public as well as using it myself.
In fact, that's kind of the secret behind everything we develop.
It's mostly stuff that I want to use, but I don't trust anybody else to sell it to me.
So we develop it.
We test it.
We do the good manufacturing practices in compliance with the FDA. We go certified organic wherever we can in compliance with USDA. We do the laboratory testing and validation on mass spec instrumentation, ICP-MS, liquid chromatography, And other instruments.
And then we offer it to the public, and then I buy it from myself.
You might be surprised to know I don't actually even get free product from my own store.
I actually have to buy it, too, for inventory control.
So I'm buying it, too.
Well, I get a discount.
I should say that.
I get the Health Ranger discount from the Natural News Store, which is a good discount.
I will admit that it's a pretty good discount, but I still buy all the stuff that I use, just so you know.
I mean, I guess that's a detail I never really talked about, but it's true.
Anyway...
So to wrap this up, sorry I took so long, but those are some things that you probably never knew about food and where your food comes from and things about the industry.
And the bottom line, in my opinion, this whole industry is incredibly lacking in good scientific analysis of the composition of foods and dietary supplements and nutritional supplements and superfoods.
And I am trying to bring more analytical science to this industry so that we can distinguish between good quality products versus counterfeit products or dishonest products.
And this is way beyond my own store.
I intend to have an effort industry-wide.
I want to help honest companies succeed, like Gaia Herbs.
I like to mention Gaia Herbs.
They don't pay me anything or anything like that, but I'm always mentioning them because I have all their bottles all on my desk because all their stuff is legit.
It's all the real deal.
We've never found anything adulterated in their products.
So I love Gaia Herbs.
There are other companies that I love, too.
I don't have time to go into a big, big list, but the point is I want to support the honest companies that have quality products, and yet I want to...
I want to expose, in essence, any counterfeiters in the industry because they're hurting the credibility of the entire industry.
And they're hurting, potentially, customers who have health concerns, who might really need the benefit of the herb they think they're buying, but they're not really getting that herb, at least not in the concentration that's been stated on the bottle.
So in the months and years ahead, you're going to see me doing even more research into the composition of foods and dietary supplements and herbal products in order to promote the safe, honest companies that are really, really creating good value and good, honest, and safe products for the public.
And I'll be exposing some of those that are engaged in frauds.
Which, in my opinion, like I said, is organic from China.
Yeah, kind of a contradiction there, if you ask me.
There's no such thing as organic from China, except in certain rare situations like goji berries, like I said.
Anyway, I hope this has been useful.
This is a lot of insider type of information.
You're not going to see this on TV. You're not going to get this from most people.
Virtually no one has this perspective.
I hope you value this.
I'm sharing it with you openly with the hope that it will help you make good decisions about what you consume so that you can get herbs and get superfoods that actually work because they're potent and And avoid those that are fake or that are counterfeit, that are wasting your money and sold by, you know, con artists out there who really have no intention of selling honest products.
So anyway, I hope this is useful.
My name is Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, as you probably know.
And my website is newstarget.com and naturalnews.com.
The laboratory results...
We are launching, well, let me save that.
Go to labs.naturalnews.com.
That's where you're going to see results.
Pretty soon that will forward to another laboratory website that we are rolling out.
It's not quite ready yet, so just go to labs.naturalnews.com.
We'll be releasing results all summer, throughout the summer of 2016, so get ready for that.
