Time Text
I hope to God where I'm sorry about that.
I was just talking to you.
I was speaking to you, having the time of my life.
Everything was terrific.
And then all of a sudden, I don't know what happened.
It says reconnect server.
I don't know how to reconnect server.
I was making a great point.
It was wonderful.
And I apologize for that.
I apologize.
Because yet again, when everything's going great, something happens.
Something happens.
And what are you going to do?
The bottom line, my friends, is simply this.
And I say this with all due respect.
I wonder, I really, honest to God, I wonder, how long do you think we are going to survive in this world that we're living in?
How, how, how can we, how can we possibly go on with this?
I don't even know what we're doing.
I don't even know what MAGA is.
I don't even know what the hell we're talking about.
I don't know anything.
I'm pretending I'm following every little thing that's sort of kind of important.
I'm looking at all these and I'm wondering who is running this show.
When I see people, maybe you can help me with this.
When I see people who are in, who actually believe in Lindsey Graham, Lindsey Graham, they actually believe in this guy and they think he's terrific.
I don't know what to say.
I don't know what to say.
I really, honestly, God don't know what to say.
But I will tell you this much, my friends.
I will tell you this much.
And I mean this.
As bad as I think, and we all have agreed that President Trump has been.
And I'm sorry, but it's true.
As bad as I think he has been, I cannot possibly think of anybody that I would want other than him.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
Do you grasp this?
I cannot think of anybody that I would possibly want other than him.
Sorry.
I'm stuck.
You're stuck.
We're stuck.
We're just in this kind of a, it's a tough road to hold, but that's exactly what's going on right now.
I don't know anybody who's better.
And I don't know why he's doing it.
And you brought up, and so many of you brought up some great, but like Carly brought up the point about what he did about, said about Massey, which I, I, I must have been traveling.
I did not see this.
And I'm, I'm reading this in horror.
I don't know why people do this.
I don't know why he lets me down.
It's like when you have, it's like when your father or somebody that you respect embarrasses you and you think to yourself, why are you doing this?
Listen, all of us have to play a certain role.
When you are a parent, you realize sometimes you are not a friend.
You're a parent.
Now, I know that may seem hard for people to grasp, but you know what I mean.
A parent is somebody who sits in there and says, I don't want you to be my buddy.
I don't worry about hurting you.
I want you to understand I'm here to protect you and to love you, but I'm not your friend.
And I want you to respect me.
You know, we were talking about something before, and this is one of the strangest things that I asked somebody this the other day.
I said, do you know how many people, if you ask them, do you really respect your spouse?
Do you look up to him or her?
Do you?
Do you really?
It's people say, well, of course.
Really?
Yeah.
You'd be surprised how many people really don't.
They don't.
Think about what that means.
Think about what that means.
So, so when the president, when we find the president basically acting in a way that we think is contrary to this, you have to ask yourself, why are you doing this?
What is the purpose?
Why did you do this?
Why do you act like this?
I really, I swear to you, I honest to God, I really want to know.
I want to know what is what is the what is the point of this?
Why in the name of God?
And I mean this.
Why do people do this?
And any event.
So the good news is, but Carlos suggested about passports.
I don't know what it's like to be from another country.
Okay.
I don't know what it's like to, I have, I'm probably one of the most, and I'm sorry to say this, but I'm probably one of the most I'm probably one of the most uninterested in things around the world.
I know I'm not supposed to say that.
I know I'm not, I know I'm not supposed to say that I know I'm, it's wrong, but, but, but I really, I really, honestly, I don't, I really don't care a lot about other people.
And I know I'm not supposed to think like this, but it's, but it's true.
When I see other people, I'd be to other countries.
I like our country.
It's all I know is this.
This is our country.
This is kind of who we are.
But until that happens, all I know is what I've got now.
This is my country.
And I want you to know something too.
I don't fall, I don't follow any rules, and I never have.
I don't know where to fit in.
I have no rules.
I have nothing to fit.
I have nothing to fill in.
I can't explain this to you.
I can, and this is one thing I want to tell you about.
I don't want to belabor the point.
And by the way, I don't want to keep you because I know you're busy.
One of the things which I have the easiest time doing is that I can have 10 different opinions regarding the same thing.
It's like my country.
I love my country.
I can despise its history, despise what we're doing, love its people, love our culture, love our, you know, I saw somebody today at the airport.
I saw a cowboy.
Have you ever seen a cowboy?
Not urban cowboy, a real honest to God cowboy.
Have you seen one?
Have you seen one?
That is quintessentially American.
You know who else?
The biker.
Kind of Hell's Angels kind of rough looking.
That's that's quintessentially American.
Positively quintessentially American.
It's true.
It's, I love that.
No one, everybody else, I mean, they can kind of copy us, but the guy with the cowboy hat and the boot, and I know we take from the Mexicans and blah, blah, blah.
But our music, I just, I, you know, I go to some stage and I can't imagine being, I have no affinity to any other country.
I have no affinity to any nothing.
It's that's who they are.
And that's why I believe very much in their sovereignty.
And I want them to maintain who they are.
I want the French to be French.
I want the Brazilians to be the by the way, Brazilians.
What they did for music, the Samba, but the old days, but with Jobim, Jobim, you will never ever have to explain anything you've done after that.
That's there's nothing I've never, there are so many things, so many forms of music that really affected me.
Bluegrass is one, which is like, what the hell is that?
It's so unique because it's a little gay, like a little bit of this.
It's a little bit of Appalachian.
It's, but it's, whoa, man, that is so American.
And Brazilian is your bluegrass.
It is so quintessentially you.
And there's no other, by the way, speaking of Brazilian, there's no other, there's no other rhythm like yours.
Yeah, there's Latin and yeah, there's African, but not like Samba, not like Brazilian.
Interesting.
So anyway, not to believe, but you don't need me to tell you why music is great.
In any event, I wanted to tell you thank you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Don't lose, don't lose steam and don't lose faith in what we're doing.
That's all I'm saying.
Don't lose faith in what we're doing.
And by the way, tonight I'm off.
I took the night off, so to speak.
So I'm not even on ABC and I'll start tomorrow.
I got an extra day off because my schedule is all screwed up and I'm completely and totally nuts.
In any event, my friends, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Have a great glorious day.
Thank you so much for being a part of what we're doing.
I love you to death.
I mean this.
You are just so great.
And we've been together a long time.
Think about this.
And I hope we are wrong for a long, long time to come.
Thank you so much.
And to all of our friends, Carla and others, I'm sorry, I don't remember the names, but thank you for your kindness.
Thank you for your super chats.
I don't have access to this particular screen as I do my others to go back and see specifically, but I appreciate it immensely.
