Time Text
What do you think he'll do in the first 100 days?
Because those are so important in a president's term.
What do you think he'll do?
I have no idea, but I'm dreading every minute of it.
has stated that he's very against women, LGBTQ people even if with Off the top of my head, no.
Let's say you care about trans people.
Then you can sort of close your ears and close your eyes and be like, well, he doesn't mean that.
Well, what has he said?
I don't know.
I can't think off the top of my head.
Saying that all LGBTQ people are inherently pedophiles aren't.
He said that.
I cannot say that he directly quoted that, but I do believe that he, what's the word?
Promotes that kind of rhetoric among his people.
Trump is coming back into the White House.
We are here at USF to ask college students what they think about that and if they're super excited.
Let's go.
Hi, Dad!
I'm here with Caitlin.
I'm going to hit you with a question for a video.
Yes.
You ready?
One, two, three.
Trump takes office this weekend.
Well, so you're not excited?
Not really.
A little nervous.
What are you nervous about, girl?
I don't like America.
You don't like America?
No, I'm kidding.
But they shut down Six Uck.
Gen Z problems.
Did you vote last year?
Last year?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, you did vote.
All right.
Are we happy about the results of that election?
No, I was pissed.
No, you were pissed?
Yeah.
Okay, finally, Gen Z with an actual political opinion here.
All right.
What are you scared of?
No, no, no.
No, we're filming a YouTube video.
Are you excited for Trump to take office?
No, not at all, actually.
No.
No.
Okay, why not?
What's the biggest thing you're concerned about?
I grew up in a very conservative family.
My dad's had a family, very conservative.
They're all from rural Connecticut.
And they support this rhetoric that they're very much for the people and he's very much not.
Raising, only cutting taxes for rich people.
He's not for rights.
It's been said multiple times before the things that he has stated that he's very against women, LGBTQ people.
Even if with you.
Can you give me some examples about how he's against LGBTQ people?
Off the top of my head, no.
Trump is going to come into office soon on the 20th.
Yeah.
In his first 100 days, as with any president, I'm sure you know, it's very important his first 100 days.
What do you think he'll do in those first 100 days?
A lot of talking.
I think he'll probably go back on a lot of his promises because he realizes it's harder to do than he thought it was.
And I think it's going to be a giant sh ⁇ .
I mean, it's going to suck one way or the other.
What are you worried about?
With the second Trump presidency, what are you worried about?
Mainly how it's going to affect a lot of people, like the mass deportation thing, how it affects.
I have a lot of friends who are trans people and people who could really be hurt by some of his policies.
And so I'm not exactly happy about that.
Coke?
Yeah, yeah.
Trump loves Diet Coke.
I did not know that.
I don't know.
I just got it.
He said he's never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.
Have you ever seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke?
I think you're thin.
Thank you.
Yeah, you're drinking Diet Coke.
I've seen so many thin people drink Diet Coke.
It's like the biggest thing at USF.
Really?
Is there like a Diet Coke culture?
There's a huge Diet Co-culture.
I know people that explicitly drink Diet Coke and one person that only drinks Diet Coke, not water, which is the worst thing I can imagine.
Their insides are like, yeah, I don't know.
They're still alive.
It's just his general Behavior toward them, a lot of the things that he posts on social media.
I think that just so could you can you just off the top of your head tell me about some of those posts you've seen that make you think that he's against LGBTQ people?
Um wanting to limit things like hormone therapy, certain types of treatments, saying that all LGBTQ people are inherently pedophiles or he said that?
I not I cannot say that he directly quoted that, but I do believe that he um what's the word um promotes that kind of rhetoric among his people.
Uh, his fault, not his followers is a bad word, but the people that follow him, I believe that rhetoric is spread a lot around that group, and he kind of allows that behavior to go on.
What's something you hope he does in the first 100 days of his presidency?
Honestly, restore TikTok, yeah, that too.
But honestly, I don't know.
I just hope they take care of them student loans that they was talking about doing because these loans is tough.
I don't think that's part of Trump's plan.
I hope it needs to be.
It really does.
I really, I really hope it can be in part of the plan sometime, you know?
Yeah, because Joe Biden let you down on that, didn't he?
He did.
He did.
I'm sorry.
Maybe he can run again in four years.
Oh my gosh.
Would you vote for him in four years?
No.
He's even still here.
No.
Exactly.
If he's still here, I don't.
Honestly, he disappeared for a while.
I got a little nervous.
I was like, oh, gosh, he's not here.
He's not here anymore.
He's not physically here.
No.
He was stuck in one of the debates.
I don't know.
He wasn't even moving.
I was like, wow.
I am formally back to visiting college campuses.
The first one is USF.
If you want to support my work to bring you this content that I know you love, go to patreon.com/slash Caitlin Bennett to support my work.
Even $5 a month gets you into my private Facebook group and we can chat one-on-one about what I should be asking Gen Z out here.
Or if you want to help fund my babysitter fun, you can give a super thanks right down below.
It's very convenient and it supports my work.
Thank you.
I think everyone should be treated with respect and opportunity, you know?
Great.
Do you think Trump's gonna do that when he takes office?
Um I don't have a good answer for you.
I don't need a good answer.
I just wanna answer.
No, I no, absolutely not.
I think uh no.
I mean he's shown that he he uh I mean he's part of the like the uh the rich elite and I think that pretty much everything that he does is not for Republicans or Democrats or or the you know people that he's serving for but uh why do you think he won the popular vote then?
Republicans usually don't get that that's true.
Um I think that he is like uh he's got you know he just has this aura around him.
I think that he like I see his aura and it's it's horrible but but I understand that people see the aura as as powerful and intelligent.
So when you say hurt by some of his policies, what policies would be hurting people?
I know you said the mass deportation.
Obviously.
Yeah.
Do you think that that shouldn't happen?
No, not at all.
Okay.
what do we do with all the people who are in this country illegally?
Well, the thing is, the amount of them that are here illegally is really overinflated.
And also, like, there are, like, there's this whole misconception about what, like, the illegal immigrant is.
Like, a lot of undocumented people, like, you know, they're not, like, and also the thing, like, the thing he keeps saying about, like, drug smuggling and stuff like that, you know, like, 90% of the people who are, like, convicted of trafficking in fentanyl are actually U.S. citizens.
Okay.
And I just think we— Maybe we should deport them, too, then.
I'm just kidding.
I mean, that's a whole other issue.
I feel like inhibiting the behavior that people do that associate with you, I feel like it's just as bad as doing it yourself.
Okay, so he is going to be the president.
There are tens of millions of people who voted for him.
He cannot possibly be responsible or call out every single thing that a group of his supporters might do or any of his supporters might do.
I don't think that's fair to cast that upon him, especially something as egregious as saying that he probably believes that LGBTQ people are pedophiles and blah, blah, blah.
What do you hope he accomplishes in those first 100 days?
I hope he figures out the border situation.
Because for me, I feel like Florida, especially, you see a lot of—or you hear a lot of, like, you know what I'm talking about?
No.
Yeah, in Florida you hear about, like, you know— That's better.
That's all me.
Yeah.
I low-key forgot what I was talking about.
I'm not going to lie.
So, like, mass deportations type of thing?
Because that's, like, part of his plan.
Yeah.
I don't think necessarily.
I think just figure out going forward.
Like, I don't think we obviously should send everybody back.
But the people who are coming across legally, it's not legal.
Yeah.
I think what he's talking about is all the millions of people who came in, in the Biden administration.
Like, okay, you're going back out.
Because you were allowed to come in here and you weren't supposed to be in here.
So, yeah, you support that.
And you want to see that within the first 100 days?
No, not necessarily.
Okay.
Just eventually.
Okay.
So, what's something in the first 100 days that you want to see happen?
I'm not sure.
I'm not going to lie.
You're like, I just care that he's in there.
No, yeah, I really like him.
And I'm just glad to be on an interview, so.
You're like, this is my time to shine.
Yeah, exactly.
All right.
You want to give a shout out to anyone important since you're in an interview?
Shout out my mom and dad.
That's perfect.
Love my parents.
Yeah, good.
All right.
All right.
You did good, mom and dad.
I tried.
The inaugurations this weekend?
Yes.
Yes, I did look at the schedule a little bit.
Yeah.
You're like, Trump's scheduled in to be inaugurated.
Yeah, I realize we have Monday off because it's Martin Luther King Jr.'s day.
Day.
Yes, sorry.
It's his day.
He gets a whole day.
Yes, and it's also Trump's inauguration day.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
What do you hope to see from the first 100 days that he's in office?
First 100 days?
I mean, mostly, I just want to see prices go down.
I know everything's very expensive everywhere.
I definitely hope to see some relief sent to California for the massive wildfires going on there.
It's affected many thousands of people, not just, you know, the rich, but the people who are working, you know, normal lives.
Maybe some female reform?
Natural disasters?
Yeah.
I mean, I just think just support everywhere because people's entire lives and their family eyes are destroyed by the terrible fire that I see.
I mean, you open Instagram and that's one of the massive things.
It's the headline right now.
So, Untouchable Dance Troupe and Unsophable Step Team are having an event called Stro Night and it's in the MSC at 7.30 on Friday.
So, I think everybody should come out and support and just watch all the Greeks and all the step teams and dance teams, anything that you see.
Well, I am going to ask him a little bit about being conservative and then not being.
All right, go ahead.
Okay.
So, you were sharing with me your story about you used to be conservative.
Yeah.
And you were talking about what captivated you.
What were you telling us?
So, back in 2016, 2015, it was kind of like edgy content that captivated me.
I was kind of like, kind of like just as a teen boy, you kind of get into that stuff.
Like, I know like recently Andrew Tate and stuff is popular.
So, it kind of captures like young men because it's like funny, like ha ha ha.
But then I kind of like grew up a little bit and I realized like it's not right to treat people that way, kind of.
I guess I grew more empathetic.
I kind of just looked back and I reflect and I was like, these aren't the values that I want to bestow upon like my children in the future or having my friends and stuff like that.
It was kind of, I grew out of it.
It's basically.
And you said you supported Kamala rather than Trump.
And, okay.
What do you think about the fact that so many more people came out to vote for him this time and he won the popular vote, which hasn't happened in forever for a Republican?
What do you think that says about the country?
I think we've seen a trend around the world.
mean this is true for a lot of countries mexico is one country that managed and not happened to a lot of the incumbent parties around the world ended up losing their re-elections like england the toys lost to the labor party and it's happened around and i think the upcoming canada election i think trudeau just stepped down and they're probably gonna be replaced by the more conservative party there so i think it's like people are mad because covet obviously happened in 2020 and like the supply chain got really messed up and inflation's been a problem.
So, people are kind of mad at prices and stuff like that.
I think that's the big reason why they voted for Trump over Biden is they see the world as it is now and they're kind of putting the blame on Biden.
And that's kind of like the reason why people came up with Trump.
And also, I think there's like smaller stuff like a lot of liberals and stuff, especially leftists, aren't really happy with the state of the Democratic Party, so they didn't go.
Oh, sorry.
That's okay.
A lot of liberals and leftists didn't come out in support of Kamala or Joe Biden because they're kind of unhappy with the state of the party as it is.
They don't believe that it's as progressive as they want it to be.
So there's kind of like protests, especially with Gaza and all these stuff going on.
It's definitely like a big problem there.
What do you think he'll do in the first 100 days?
Because those are so important in a president's term.
What do you think he'll do?
I have no idea, but I'm dreading every minute of it.
Yeah, do you think it was really that bad the first four years with him?
Well, you were so young.
Who knew?
How was it?
I was 16.
So I was almost an adult.
Yeah, I mean, I remember that every week there was a new news article that was just like made me more ashamed to be in America.
Well, that's probably their goal.
I would much rather the president be a sitting duck than actively threatening people that I care about, the people that I love.
Who did he threaten?
Well, there's definitely a lot of anti-trans people that follow him.
And he's smart enough to most of the time not be actively trash talking any specific group of people.
You know, he's probably doing that behind the scenes, but you know, in the vast public, it's quiet enough that if you maybe, let's say you care about trans people, then you can sort of close your ears and close your eyes and be like, well, he didn't mean that.
Well, what has he said?
I don't know.
I can't think off the top of my head.
So, has he actually said anything?
I can't think, I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
I'm sorry.
Trump's inauguration is coming up.
Oh, yeah.
Did you know that?
Yes, I did.
Yeah, I got reminded yesterday.
And today, I know.
All right.
What do you guys hope he accomplishes in his first 100 days?
Because the 100 days is like a big deal for some reason.
What are you hoping for?
I don't even know.
I'm hoping just things go well.
I don't know what to say.
I'm just keeping my eye first on God right now.
Jesus is going to look over us, you know?
Yeah.
Because I don't know what's going to happen.
I think I agree with some of the things, like the things that he wants to do.
And then definitely I know he has a very aggressive like border and like immigrant things that he wants to do.
So I just hope that he does it in wisdom.
Yeah.
Like, I don't want things to get too crazy and chaotic, but I do think that change needs to happen in a lot of aspects in our country.
So I don't have any specifics again, but.
Yeah, no, that's great.
What about you?
What do you hope he accomplishes?
You said what I was going to go to say too.
But yeah, pretty much what she said, and it's pretty much going to go into effect.
Like, all he said is going to come in effect immediately.
So.
Do you think he's going to be, since he felt snubbed in the last election, and do you think he's going to come back with like full force so you just get everything done that he won?
Yeah.
Do you think that's a good thing?
Who knows?
We're going to see.
We're going to see.
I know you didn't support Trump and he used to be conservative.
Now with your new leanings and supporting a very progressive woman, even though she didn't win, what do you hope Trump to accomplish in the first 100 days?
Does he have any strengths that you like that you hope he uses?
I think he's really funny.
I think he's like, he's like one of the most.
That's the one thing that I hate is that he's just one of the funniest people that I've like in media right now.
But I don't, it's kind of hard because he's against a lot of what I believe in.
Like I'm a big environmentalist and he is like the drill baby drill and I'm very against that.
But I'm hopeful that he can try to.
Healthcare has been a big topic recently, especially with the CEO Killing.
So I'm hoping that that kind of spirals into something like more congressional talking about it.
Like, hey, people aren't happy with the current state of affairs with the insurance companies and healthcare.
So I'm hoping because he's endorsed the capping insulin prices and capping medication for older people and he's supported that so I'm hoping that he maybe might go a little bit further on that.
It's more of a leftist position but I'm hoping that maybe because he's a populist like it's popular so I'm kind of hoping that I'm hopeful in that sense that that could be achieved.
I'm not all like doom and gloom.
I do have a lot of issues with Donald Trump, but I'm very hopeful for that in the future.
Seem like a positive person.
You're like, yeah, yeah, I used to be this, but now I'm this.
And it's for positive reasons that I believe in.
Thank you so much for your time.
