The Daily Beast Strikes Out

Time Text
The left wing media has become so bored of going after their typical right wing targets that they've now set their eyes on the new suspect.
This time they've set focus on a Hall of Fame athlete for committing the gravest of all crimes.
He doesn't hate Donald Trump.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
*Mario's music*
Now, I don't know much about baseball, but Justin over here was gracious enough to let me know that Mariano Rivera was an esteemed pitcher for the New York Yankees.
A 13th time all star, Rivera was a legend both on and off the field, winning five World Series championships, saving more games than any other pitcher in baseball history, and dedicating his life work to charity.
Even though Rivera broke into the major leagues in 1995, it took liberals 25 years to realize that he was everything they hated, and they chose the weekend of his Hall of Fame induction ceremony to try to tear him down.
Mariano Rivera is the perfect embodiment of the American dream.
He immigrated to the United States from Panama to chase his dream of playing baseball.
He didn't even know a lick of English when he got here in 1990 and would cry himself to sleep at night because he couldn't understand any of his teammates, any of his coaches, or anyone else he interacted with on a day-to-day basis.
And I used to times go to bed crying because I couldn't communicate.
But while he couldn't speak any English, Rivera had something else that his peers may not have.
He had a strong conviction in God and trusted that his decisions would pay off instead of giving up.
Now today, he is a baseball Hall of Famer, a multimillionaire, a father of three, and a role model for millions of Americans.
In 1998, he started the Mariano Rivera Foundation, a Christian charity that strives to bring schooling, sports, and spirituality to impoverished youths.
And has helped open up churches in Panama, Mexico, and even the Dominican Republic.
In 2012, Forbes magazine ranked Rivera as being one of the top 30 most generous celebrities since he gave away more than 627,000 to charities that year.
Mariano Rivera is truly everything the left hates.
He is successful.
He is a Christian.
He helps people with his own money and not with the force of government.
And he earned everything he's ever accomplished instead of asking for a handout, even though he started from nothing.
But the icing on the cake came when the left learned that Rivera committed the mortal sin of not hating Donald Trump and not hating Israel.
So naturally, such a shining beacon as Rivera had to be vilified into being the scum of the earth for having two mere disagreements with the left.
Enter far left fake news outlet Daily Beast.
On the eve of the most defining moment of Rivera's career, the sad excuse of a publication decided to put out a scathing hit piece on Rivera in an attempt to tarnish his legacy, instead of celebrating all of his great feats both on and off the field.
Just hours before Rivera could be formally inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, Daily Beast writer Robert Silverman published an article titled, quote, Inside Baseball Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera's Far Right Politics.
The article blew up all over Twitter because of the disgusting imagery they use at Rivera standing on top of a photoshopped Israeli flag with a caption that read, quote, Mariano Rivera who will be inducted into the baseball hall of fame on Sunday has managed to keep his political leanings hidden for decades.
Unsurprisingly, the 2700 word article in Rivera's alleged secret far right political leanings failed to explain how Rivera is far right.
The article was really just a 14-page rant from Robert Silverman about how Mariano Rivera doesn't hate Donald Trump and doesn't hate the country of Israel, and therefore Rivera's career should be looked at with disdain.
We're gonna read some of the best parts of this laughable hit piece, but I have to warn you that there are a lot of buzzwords in here.
So please don't mind the self-censorship we have to do to please the YouTube overlords.
The article dedicates a mere two paragraphs to sum up Rivera's Hall of Fame career, and in the third paragraph dives right into the attacks on his character.
Silverman writes, quote, and over the past three years, he's also served at the pleasure of an R-word president, taken part in thinly veiled propaganda on behalf of a far-right government in Israel, and gotten chummy with outright bigfoots and apocalyptic loons.
None of this will be inscribed on his Hall of Fame plaque.
It should, even if much of the sports world would very much like to pretend none of it exists.
And look at what follows immediately after this.
At least one longtime Yankee fan would like to make sure it remains a front and center.
Oh no!
Donald Trump likes Mariano Rivera.
Let's end him now.
This is where the article gets really good.
The vast majority of evangelical Christians also believe in a particular messianic biblical prophecy.
Jews must rule the holy land before Christ can return.
Whether Rivera ascribes to those beliefs entirely is unclear, but his support for Israel and the Israel Defense Forces is a matter of public record.
Wait a second.
The article is titled Inside Baseball Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera's Far Right Politics.
But whether he ascribes to those beliefs is entirely unclear.
Well, there is Mariano's grounds for a juicy libel lawsuit.
Hopefully he donates his winnings to a charity that will piss off the Daily Beast even more.
Let's continue.
He has traveled to Israel on multiple occasions, possibly beginning in 2013.
That year, the New York Board of Rabbis named Rivera its man of the year.
During the award ceremony, NYBR's executive vice president Joseph Patasnik claimed Rivera would accompany him to Israel for 10 days.
However, on his WABC radio show in June 2015, Patastnik said Rivera and his family had spent five days with him there.
In this case, reports exist which back up Patasnik.
Rivera did visit religious landmarks and chatted up government officials.
Oh no, he visited this country I don't like.
He's a bad, bad man.
Let's pay no attention to Bernie Sanders honeymooning in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.
No, it's Mariano Rivera that's bad for visiting Israel.
A few paragraphs later, Silverman writes, In 2018, Rivera returned to Israel, touring a military base and a venture organized by the NYBR and the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, a multimillion dollar US-based nonprofit organization that does charitable work on behalf of the IDF.
Whoa!
So not only was Rivera in a country that Silverman despises, but he went there for charity.
This man is a monster.
If you've thought we've hit all the sweet spots in the article, you're wrong.
A little further down in the article, after dozens of paragraphs complaining about Israel, Silverman writes, Beyond Rivera's pro-Israel activism, even though he's never publicly given his endorsement, the Hall of Famer's actions make it clear his sympathies lie with the Trump administration, which has backed all manner of far-right policies when it comes to Israel.
In 2018, Rivera was nominated for the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
A month later, Rivera appeared at the White House for a friendly photo op, and in March, he was part of the delegation sent to the opening of the Special Olympics.
Not only is Rivera a bad dude for being someone Donald Trump admires, but he also stood next to him for a photo.
How could he?
Then before ranting about Israel, yet once again, Silverman begins to close out his article by writing as to why Rivera's right wing politics remained a secret for so long is partially a function of the era in which he played, and partly due to his conscience efforts to keep this information about his private life under wraps.
Well, good job, Daily Beast, for this stunning and brave article exposing Mariano Rivera's secret, far right politics.
I can definitely say that my outlook on his historic accomplishments and charitable work across the globe are certainly changed now that I know he took photos with Trump and visited Israel.
A plus journalism.
I encourage you guys to go read the rest of the article, but I'd advise you to put on At Blocker first or try to find it somewhere else so you're not giving them the clicks for this garbage.
I don't know what's more sad.
That someone took the time to write a 2700-word essay about how we should hate a man because he has too little disagreements with the writer, or that the editors at Daily Beast thought this was acceptable to publish.
But thankfully, the Daily Beast hit piece on Rivera completely backfired.
The article received the ratio treatment on Twitter and is still trending days later.
But it's not trending for the reasons they intended.
Rivera received so much support online that even Red Sox fans were coming to his defense, telling the Daily Beast that they are worse than Soviet commissars.
Then on Wednesday morning, Rivera appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss his recent nomination into the Hall of Fame, and was asked point blank about the Daily Beast hit piece on him.
Rivera exuded a certain level of class unseen in athletes today, as he stuck by his convictions and wasn't afraid to admit that President Trump isn't just someone he takes photos with, but he's a friend.
He was a friend of mine before he became the president.
So you're a Trump fan.
I'm his friend.
I'm a husband.
Mariano Rivera is the type of person the left claims to stand up for and champion.
He is a Hispanic immigrant of color who came to this country with the shirt on his back and no knowledge of the English language.
But because Rivera has since turned into everything they stand against, and without the help of their beloved government, they see it fit to turn on him and try to ruin his character.
I didn't know anything about Mariano Rivera before this week, and I'm willing to bet there are other politicals out there like myself that didn't either.
But thanks to the Daily Beast, I can now say I'm a huge fan.
If anything, I believe their hit piece will improve Trump's chances of winning, since now the average American sports fan has now been exposed to the left's lunacy.
They set out to ruin Mariano's image, but instead made the whole country aware of the intolerance of the left and made every single Trump supporter hear about his accomplishments and his charity.
After hearing about all of his helpful work around the world, I may go give some of my money to the Mariana Rivera Foundation to help kids in need.
