Andrew Klavan Reacts To These Insane A.I. Videos

Andrew Klavan praises AI’s horror potential with Stories from the Dark, a Philippine ghost tale of feuding families whose children die violently—one hanged, one drowned—yet return as spirits luring others to their deaths. He dismisses Past Fusion AI’s Sinatra reimagining as unoriginal but highlights Preborn’s 80,000 "saved" fetuses via ultrasound, framing abortion as a "heartbreaking lie." Granny Spills amuses him despite its rough edges, while a fictional DJ job ad—with eerie rules (1:42 a.m., track 17 played three times)—showcases AI’s creepy, King-esque storytelling. Klavan sees AI as a bold new frontier for horror, blending technical fascination with unsettling emotional hooks. [Automatically generated summary]

Short Form Stories 00:02:15
All right, I actually like this bonus video, the idea of this bonus video today.
It's not the usual torment when I have to look at some crazy leftist with a ring in her nose, say stupid stuff because she's got a ring in your nose.
You can't think.
You're just thinking, I'm just a ring in my nose.
Instead, we're going to look at some short videos that tell stories that are just being made by individuals, which I think is great.
It's something that is going to happen more and more and eventually will replace the people in Hollywood who we hate so very, very much.
At Stories from the Dark.
In a quiet Philippine province, two families lived side by side and hated each other for generations.
No one remembered why.
They only remembered the rule: their children must never meet, but secrets grow best in the dark.
They met by the river at night, where no one could see them fall in love.
They promised each other one thing.
If we can't live together, we won't live at all.
When their families found out, the boy was beaten and locked inside his house.
The girl was sent away before sunrise.
By morning, both were found dead.
One hanging from a mango tree, the other drowned in the river.
The province called it a tragedy.
But the families say, every night after that, two figures met again by the river, holding hands, smiling.
And if someone passed too close, they felt hands pulling them toward the water.
The families made peace too late because love that's buried wrong doesn't rest.
And locals warn.
If you see a couple by the river at night, don't watch them.
They're looking for someone to love forever.
Some love stories never end.
All right, kind of a classic ghost story.
Not too original there, but I love the voice.
And I like the videos.
The videos had a really nice tone to them.
A Classic Ghost Story 00:07:24
So I see talent there.
And I just think, you know, it's great.
It's great that we don't have to depend on people in Hollywood who hate us to find stories.
I think this is going to be really interesting.
I think the short form is really good for the internet.
You sure about that?
You sure about that?
Because you're usually working when you're on the internet.
Most of us are usually working when we're on the internet, and it's something you can kind of take, like a cigarette break.
So I saw talent there.
I know ghost stories so well that I've heard that one a lot of times, but still, I thought it was really interesting the way it worked, and it looked nice.
I like the look of it.
Past Fusion AI, at Past Fusion AI.
Regrets.
I've had a few.
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do.
Saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway.
And more, much more than this.
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times I'm sure you knew So that was obviously Frank Sinatra's life, put to his famous hit My Way.
Okay, I've seen that before.
You know, the fact that you can age people and move them around like that is kind of fascinating, but that was not as creative.
I want to see people using these things for more creativity.
And I'll tell you one thing, I haven't seen what's coming next, so maybe I'm stepping in it.
But if I see one more sexy fairy girl sitting on a flower petal, I'm leaving town.
Think about this.
80,000 babies.
That's how many lives were saved last year through Preborn, our sponsor, and their supporters like you.
Right now, thousands of women are being told the same heartbreaking lie that abortion is their only choice, that they're on their own, that there's no way forward.
Abortionists sell this stuff, man.
But everything shifts the moment an expected mother walks into a pre-born network clinic and sees her baby on that ultrasound screen.
In that instant, in that instant, her chance of choosing life doubles.
Suddenly, it's not abstract anymore.
It's her baby created in God's image, a sacred life meant to be cherished and protected.
When she hears that heartbeat for the very first time, a divine bond is formed.
I remember this moment.
It's a magical moment, and it's gotten since my kids were born.
Ultrasound is just, it's like a camera.
It's like a snapshot.
And today, we can all support a mother in need.
One pre-born donor put it like this: she said, My mother chose life.
That's the only reason I'm here today, and that's exactly why I give to pre-born so other mothers can make that same choice.
A donation of just $28 provides one ultrasound that could save a life and impact generations to come.
Make this the biggest life-saving year we've ever seen.
Call Pound250 and say the word baby.
That's Pound250 Baby, or visit preborn.com/slash Clavin to donate securely today.
Again, that's preborn.com/slash K-L-A-V-A-N.
All right, let's watch another one.
All right, that was hardly a story.
That was actually like an ex-post.
But pretty funny.
Some of those animal ones, I have to admit, they look so real.
You have to just understand that they're not.
I mean, apparently they can do anything now.
It's frightening.
What if he says I'm too high maintenance?
Tell him he's too low income for my lifestyle.
Simple economics.
What if he thinks I shop too much, shopping too much?
There's no such thing when you're investing in your fabulousness.
Should I get back with my ex?
I'd rather French kiss a cactus.
Go generate a better man on Higgsfield who actually makes you money.
I have to say, what I'm watching here is the beginning of something, not the actual completion of something.
It is amazing that this stuff is just being created out of nothing.
And that shows it at Granny Spills.
And it's, you know, it's pretty good, pretty good to watch.
I mean, it's like it's not quite there yet.
But I think so far, I like the first one best.
I like the one that actually told the story.
It wasn't a fresh story.
It wasn't a new story, but it wasn't a story.
And it has some kind of emotional weight to it.
That's been the best one, but I thought that one was fairly funny too.
Good news.
You have been hired as the new late night DJ on FM 66.6, a late night radio broadcast that nobody remembers starting, but everybody hears.
Your duties are simple.
Keep the music playing.
Read scheduled announcements.
Make sure the broadcast is never interrupted.
And most importantly of all, follow these rules.
One.
If a mysterious caller rings at 1:42 a.m. and requests the song Daisy Bell, do not play it.
Repeat, the last DJ hated that record five times, and they should hang up.
2.
If you see a tall man seated in booth 3 between the hours of 2.15 a.m. and 2.52 a.m., don't speak to him.
Place five black coffees outside, turn off the studio lights and lock your door until 3.11 a.m.
3.
When an unlabeled CD appears outside the broadcasting booth, pick it up using gloves and play track 17-3 times.
Do not reply if a voice whispers, play it again, over your headphones.
4.
If you hear children's laughter coming out of your microphone, unplug it immediately and open the front doors.
Nothing will come in, but something will leave.
And remember, you need to sign off within a while, crocodiles, every morning, and work at least eight shifts before you qualify for sick leave.
Good luck.
That was pretty good.
I've seen that kind of thing before.
That's when I first started playing these on the air.
I really like the use of irrational numbers.
8675309.
You know, it's at 3, turn it off at 3.52.
That's a Stephen King trick that he uses a lot.
There's something really just frightening about that.
And I like the whole idea that you're entering in.
Anybody who's ever worked a night shift, which I have, knows when you're entering in something where you're going to be alone all night, there's a sense like what is going to happen.
And the idea that you might get a phone call.
It makes no sense.
You can't see out of the building.
That's pretty scary.
I've seen that done more originally, but I like all of this stuff in principle.
I like all the attempts.
And I think it's interesting that like so many venues now, it all tends to trends toward horror.
But still, I think this is the start of something.
I think it's the start.
As Frank Sinatra would have said, I think this is the start of something big.
And I'm looking forward to seeing it happen.
