| Hello, I'm Jared Taylor with American Renaissance. | |
| The facts, rather than the fantasy, about the Trayvon Martin shooting are finally getting some attention. | |
| The fantasy, as everyone in America has heard, is that on February 26th, young Trayvon was shot to death by a crazed white man who thinks that any young black wearing a hoodie is a criminal. | |
| Just last Friday, March 23rd, The Los Angeles Times listed what it called"Facts Not in Contention," and I quote,"Volunteer Neighborhood Watch Captain George Zimmerman pursued and then gunned down the unarmed 17-year-old last month and never faced arrest because police said there was no evidence to contradict his claim that he fired in self-defense." Pursued him and gunned him down and | |
| claimed it was self-defense. | |
| And those redneck cracker cops just let him walk. | |
| Well, as we will see, the facts are just a bit different. | |
| But the Gunned Him Down version has been the perfect liberal fantasy. | |
| You see, it happened in Sanford, Florida, just north of Orlando. | |
| And Florida is part of the Forever Wicked South. | |
| The racism peddlers couldn't be more excited. | |
| The result has been demonstrations all over the country. | |
| The Justice Department has sent a team to Sanford to grill the police department on why it didn't arrest George Zimmerman. | |
| The Florida State Police are taking a look. | |
| The Congressional Black Caucus says the shooting should be investigated as a hate crime. | |
| Its chairman, Emmanuel Cleaver, thundered that: Jesse Jackson has been jetting around the country telling black people that, | |
| quote,"Blacks are under attack." Last Sunday, two days ago, he preached at a black church in Eatonville, Florida, where he likened the killing to that of Emmett Till, Medgar Evers, and Martin Luther King. | |
| and said that Trayvon was, quote, a martyr, murdered and martyred. | |
| The pastor of that black church, Willie Barnes, couldn't have been happier. | |
| Here's what he had to say: | |
| "There is power in the innocent blood of Trayvon Martin, | |
| Nothing like a refreshing little killing for hounding the white man and making him squeal. | |
| Well, that same Sunday, Rev. Raphael G. Warnock of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta celebrated Trayvon's death by wearing a hoodie while he preached in the pulpit. | |
| The Miami Heat basketball team took up the hoodie theme when 13 players lined up wearing team logo hoodies and bowed their heads for a commemorative photo. | |
| The National Basketball Players Association Meanwhile, Al Sharpton has been posing for the cameras with Trayvon's parents, | |
| leading rallies, asking for contributions, and then covering his own antics on television as a correspondent for MSNBC. | |
| The network seems to think that this is first-rate journalism. | |
| President Obama had to wade in, just as he did when the police arrested his Harvard pal, Henry Louis Gates. | |
| Last Friday, he said he didn't want to comment on an ongoing criminal investigation, but he did anyway. | |
| If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon, he said, adding, quote, all of us have to do some soul searching. | |
| That same weekend, Ben Jealous, President of the NAACP told us, and I quote, Got that? | |
| Stalked and killed in cold blood. | |
| A day or two later, the new Black Panther Party offered a $10,000 reward for the, quote, capture of George Zimmerman. | |
| When party leader Mikhail Muhammad was asked if he was inciting violence, he replied, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. | |
| The party said it was asking black entertainers and athletes for money and expected to raise one million dollars in just one week. | |
| Panther spokesman Hashim Nzinga then went on national television to tout the award but was arrested two days later. | |
| He's a convicted felon and not allowed to own weapons, but he was caught trying to pawn a semi-automatic pistol. | |
| A group of enterprising blacks is now selling t-shirts with a picture of George Zimmerman on it with the words, Pussy Ass Cracker. | |
| That is supposed to be some kind of rap lingo that refers to racist judges who give blacks long sentences. | |
| This very day, today, March 27, The House Judiciary Committee is going to hold a hearing on racial profiling and hate crimes, which is directly inspired by the Trayvon Martin shooting. | |
| In the meantime, what are the Sanford authorities up to? | |
| As politicians always do, they wilted under pressure. | |
| The city commissioners voted no confidence in Police Chief Bill Lee just last Wednesday. | |
| And the next day, the chief said that attacks on him were becoming a distraction to running the department and that he would temporarily step down to, quote, restore calm to the city of Stanford. | |
| That same day, however, he released a statement that most reporters ignored in which he explained why George Zimmerman had not been arrested. | |
| And I'll quote from it. | |
| When the Sanford Police Department arrived at the scene of the accident, Mr. Zimmerman provided a statement claiming he acted in self-defense, which at the time was supported by physical evidence and testimony. | |
| By Florida statute, law enforcement was prohibited from making an arrest based on the facts and circumstances they had at the time. | |
| He said Zimmerman's statement was supported by physical evidence and testimony, but nobody asked him about that. | |
| Well, what about George Zimmerman himself? | |
| At first, the press took great joy in writing that he's white, but it turns out he has a Peruvian mother and he looks Hispanic, so the New York Times has to content itself with calling him a"white Hispanic," not a phrase the paper uses very often. | |
| George has been lying low for the past month, but last Thursday, his father issued a statement emphasizing that his boy is not white. | |
| This is what he said. | |
| George is a Spanish-speaking minority with many black family members and friends. | |
| He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. | |
| The father went on to say that the press had it all wrong about what happened. | |
| But he didn't say how they got it wrong. | |
| Instead, he went on at great length about how nice George is to blacks and how much they like him, so he couldn't possibly be racist. | |
| As for young Trayvon, the press has been running a cherubic, out-of-date picture of him and giving the impression that he's the sweetest young man in Florida. | |
| His mother says so, after all. | |
| In fact, Trayvon has been suspended from school. | |
| He was suspended from school at the time of the shooting because he was caught with a baggie with traces of marijuana in it. | |
| It was his third suspension, by the way. | |
| Once was for missing school and once was for writing WTF on a school locker. | |
| It seems also that he was a dedicated tweeter with a Twitter handle that I will not pronounce because my voice pronouncing it will get all over the Internet if I do. | |
| His tweets have been removed, but a few still survive. | |
| Here are some examples: | |

| Bitch, you got 80 problems. | |
| Trey Buck. | |
| Trayvon had at least two tattoos and wore gold caps on his teeth, so he may not be the choir boy his mother has been making him out to be. | |
| This, of course, doesn't mean he deserved to be pursued and gunned down, as the LA Times was putting it just last Friday. | |
| But that, of course, is probably not what happened at all. | |
| The news is finally coming out that, yes, George Zimmerman was head of a neighborhood watch, and he was out patrolling on the night of February 26th. | |
| Yes, he did call 911 and report a suspicious character who turned out to be Trayvon Martin. | |
| Yes, the 911 operator told him not to confront the suspicious character. | |
| What no one was reporting until recently is that after Zimmerman lost contact with Trayvon Martin, he says he went back to his car and he says Trayvon approached him from behind and asked if he had a problem. | |
| Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, whereupon Trayvon said,"Well, you do now," and knocked him to the ground with a single blow. | |
| He then jumped on Zimmerman and pounded his head into the ground. | |
| Zimmerman screamed for help and used his licensed handgun only when he feared for his life. | |
| The fight is corroborated by at least one eyewitness. | |
| The police say that Zimmerman's face and the back of his head were bleeding. | |
| And that he had wet, fresh grass stains on the back of his jacket, which was evidence of a struggle. | |
| Zimmerman got medical attention on the spot and went to the hospital the next day. | |
| Now, the obvious question is, why wasn't this reported long ago? | |
| Well, initially, the police must have figured that their determination of justifiable homicide was not going to be second-guessed and just left things at that. | |
| After the yelling began, the case was turned over to state and federal authorities, and the Sanford police refused to comment on an ongoing investigation. | |
| In fact, the information we have now was leaked to the press, though the police concede it is"consistent" with the facts in the case. | |
| George Zimmerman's father seems to have thought it was more important to tell the world his boy likes black people than to explain that he fired his weapon because he thought Trayvon Martin was trying to kill him. | |
| Apparently he thought defending against a charge of racism was more important than defending against a charge of cold-blooded murder. | |
| That tells you something about America, doesn't it? | |
| I suspect that when all the investigations are over, After all, there's a state, federal, and a local investigation. | |
| There won't be enough evidence for a grand jury even to indict George Zimmerman, much less for a trial jury to convict him. | |
| So, this is shaping up to be another case like the Tawana Brawley fraud, the Jenna Six fraud, the Crystal Mangum raped by white lacrosse players fraud, and many other equally sensational but less publicized frauds. | |
| Well, I don't blame Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and the Congressional Black Caucus for all of this, contemptible though they all are. | |
| I blame the media executives, who are still mostly white, who whooped up this story and gloried in it just as much as the professional race baiters. | |
| You see, nothing excites white liberals more than the prospect of sniffing out violent, racist white people. | |
| And when they smell one, the most elementary rules of journalism, such as checking the facts or waiting for a police report, they go right out the window. | |
| Will any of these people ever apologize to George Zimmerman or to Police Chief Bill Lee? | |
| Not a chance. | |
| Will they learn anything about holding their tongues until they have the facts? | |
| Not a chance. | |
| They'll be just as reckless the next time they think they have a white racist in their sights. | |
| Oh, just one closing note. | |
| Trayvon Martin's mother, Sabrina Fulton, has just applied for trademarks on two phrases:"I am Trayvon," and"Justice for Trayvon." Isn't it amazing what a grieving mother will do for a dear departed son? | |
| But I shouldn't criticize. | |
| The royal family of black America, the children of Martin Luther King, no less, they trademarked dad long ago. | |
| They even squeezed $800,000 out of the government to use his image and words as part of the memorial that went up last year on the National Mall. | |
| So who knows? | |
| There could be a happy ending to this story after all. |
