Ukraine conducted a major attack inside Russian territory, leaving at least 14 people dead.
The war has escalated over the past week as Ukraine has conducted strikes inside Russia and Moscow, ordered a missile and drone barrage against Kiev.
Russian authorities report the Belgorod region that borders Ukraine came under missile and rocket attack on Saturday.
This would have been a week ago.
Moscow state media service TASS said at least 14 are dead and over 100 were injured.
The Russian Defense Ministry says one child is among the dead.
That's not going to endear Ukraine to Russia.
Thus, we have a retaliation.
Massive Russian strikes end year of Ukrainian defeats.

They're reporting this attack having taken place.

The Russian military has been congratulating the Iranian colleagues on the holidays all night long.
Facilities across the entire country came under a massive New Year's attack.
Local sources reported more than 100 strikes in almost all regions.
That would have been attacks on Ukraine.
Today's attack has become the most powerful in recent months, comparable to the strikes launched in the early days of the war.
Uranian military complained that their Russian Air Force forces use various drones and all available types of missiles, except for calibers.
About 110 different missiles were reportedly launched, and you can well imagine their devastating effects.

Dead-end Israel gets lost in Gaza.
Until October 7th, events in Gaza for the past nine years rarely made headlines, even in Israel.
Some of that would make Hamas fire some missile into Israel, and Israeli jets would respond by dropping bombs, many times more destructive, on select military sites in Gaza.
All this was regarded as so unremarkable that the Israeli military referred to it as mowing the lawn.
Israel's allies, the US, Britain, France, and Germany also took little notice of these events.
The situation of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza could go on indefinitely.
The Palestinians had endured more than half a century of occupation and oppression.
Why not another half century?
From the standpoint of the various governments in Israel, since 1970 at Camp David treaty with Egypt, these were matters that could be managed while Israel continued its slow gradual theft of the West Bank.
As far as Gaza was concerned, its conversion after 2004 into a prison, only 2.2 million prisoners had disposed of that issue.
But then something happened.
On October 7th, the eruption of violence occurred from that small piece of land that few people in Israel or anyone else would have thought possible.
The shock in Israel that the Hamas attack caused says much about the complacency not only of the Israeli government and military, but among Israeli citizens in general.
An Israeli journalist remarked recently, Most Israelis looked at Palestinians like furniture that could be moved around in their living room.
October 7th also dashed the complacency of the US and Europe.
And of course, we know what has ensued.

Turkey fires up NATO plan, meaning it really burns it up, closes the straits at two British warships, blocks their entry to the Black Sea.
Turkey has closed the straits prohibiting the entry into the Black Sea of two minesweepers donated by Britain to the Ukrainian army and made use of its ride as it derives from the Treaty of Montreux in more detail.
Turkish authorities announced today this was on the Second of January, they will not allow two British minesweepers to sail through Turkish territorial waters as they head to the Black Sea to be used by Ukraine because this would constitute a violation of international treaty crossing the straits in times of war.
Glad to see Turkey exercising its responsibility here.
Meanwhile, we have Israeli officials Qatar saying Hamas agreed in principle to resume hostage deal talks.
Qatarian mediators told Israel Hamas has agreed in principle to resume talks on a new deal to secure the release of more than 40 hostages held in Gaza in return for up to a month of a halt in fighting.
The big picture?
Israeli officials are treating the message with extreme caution and say they have to get more clarification over the weekend to know if Hamas is indeed serious.
So, we'll hear more as that proceeds.
Israel rebuffs Biden's request to release Palestinian tax money.

Last weekend, and this is dated a few days ago, December 29th, President Biden asked the Israeli PM to release Tel Aviv's holding on Palestinian tax money.
Finance Minister Ben Zalhel announced Israel was rejecting the request.
The White House has continued to provide Israel with unconditional support, even as Tel Aviv has snubbed several requests from Biden and other senior administration officials.
Brock Rudvig reported on Axios, Biden and Netanyahu held a difficult call the previous weekend.
One point of contention was Tel Aviv withholding tax revenues collected from Palestinians, which Israeli authorities collect on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.
Biden asked Netanyahu to accept a proposal that the Israeli Prime Minister raise himself several weeks ago to transfer the withheld tax revenues to a doorway for safekeeping until an arrangement can be found that will assuage Israel's concerns that the funds could reach Habas.
A US official in a sort with knowledge of the call So Netanyahu backtracked, said he doesn't think this is a good idea anymore.
He told Biden he doesn't trust the Norwegians.
I don't know.
If you can't trust the Norwegians, who can you trust, right?
Except they even appear to have been involved in a bombing of the North Stream by blind.

On Christmas Day, the Wall Street Journal thought it appropriate to publish an op-ed by the world leader who is currently slaughtering more innocents than any other, Benjamin Netanyahu.
In that article, Netanyahu gave us his vision for the endgame in Gaza.
He laid out three aims.
Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarized, and Palestinian society must be deradicalized.
Those are the three prerequisite for peace between Israel and its Palestinian neighbors in Gaza.

Which means that maybe he's going to continue until there's no one left alive in Gaza, at least no Palestinians.

This section provides an overview of the acts in which Israel is engaged that are genocidal in character, having regard to their nature, scope, and context.
These acts are ongoing, and ongoing in a conflict.
Conflict context where Israel is deliberately imposing telecommunication blackouts in Gaza and restricting access by fact-finding bodies and the international media.
At the same time, Palestinian journalists are being killed at a rate significantly higher than has occurred in any conflict in the past 100 years.
In the two months since 7 October, the number of journalists killed already exceeds the entirety of World War II.
Further details will be provided regarding these acts over the course of the proceedings.
However, such information as is available establishes that Israel, one, is engaged in killing Palestinians in Gaza, including Palestinian children in large numbers.
Two, is causing serious bodily and mental harm to Palestinians in Gaza, including Palestinian general, and is inflicting on them conditions of life intended to bring about their destruction as a group.
Those conditions include three, expulsion from homes and mass displacement alongside the large-scale destruction of homes and residential areas.
Four, deprivation of access to adequate food and water.
Five, deprivation of access to adequate medical care.
Six, deprivation of access to adequate shelter, clothes, hygiene and sanitation.
Seven, the destruction of the life of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
No doubt about it.
They've got that right.

The Brigadier General, one of the IRGC's senior military advisors, was martyred.

The argument for regime change, of course, is nothing new for Israeli hawks.

taking charge is particularly self-serving, as Israel is busy committing its military to an open-ended military campaign in Gaza, meaning the massive general side, the U.S.
is backing Israel in arming them for the Gaza war.
So to bet it, it makes sense to use the United States to pick a war with Iran.
Meanwhile, their faithful ally, Lindsey Graham, has added in Insisting that this is something that should be done, calling for the U.S.
to blow parts of Iran off the map.
Senator Lindsey Graham has called for the U.S.
to bomb Iran in response to Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, saying Iranian bases in oil fields should be blown off the map.
This is so nutty, I can hardly believe that this guy has long since outlived his usefulness to South Carolina or to the United States.
A hawkish senator claimed that without Iran, there would be no Houthis.
But the Houthis, formerly known as Zanzibar, are a homegrown movement of Zayed al-Shia Muslims.
Zayed al-Shia Muslims ruled the area of North Yemen that the Houthis now control for about a thousand years until 1962.
So Graham is making completely baseless claims, not surprising for United States Senators, and perhaps one could say especially unsurprising for Lindsey Grant.

Following the news that Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign cancelled the remaining TV ad buys in Iowa and New Hampshire, Trump posted on Truth Social that a 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur would soon endorse Trump in the primary as scuttling his TV commercials was a sign Ramaswamy would soon drop out of the race.
He will, I am sure, endorse me.

When I was thinking of taking out U.S.
citizenship and keeping my Canadian citizenship, I knew I'd have to come back to Canada, so I did not take out U.S.
citizenship, because it has a statement at the time, in 87, you had to renounce other citizenship, renounce loyalty to any other country.
So anybody who has dual citizenship, theoretically—and then when I spoke, I was friends with the equivalent of the Secretary of State at the time.
I asked him, if I take out U.S.
citizenship, what happens?
He said, we in Canada do not require that you rescind or renounce your Canadian citizenship.
It's the Americans.
So if that is in, when you take out U.S.
citizenship, You have to renounce your loyalty to any other country.
So anybody who is an American citizen and holds another citizenship, either they've changed and removed that clause where you abjure your loyalty to any other country, either that or you can immediately get rid of all the Jews that are Israelis that either that or you can immediately get rid of all the Jews that are Israelis that happen to be in your government because they They can't figure out whether they're Democrats or Republicans.
