Time Text
Get ready for an outstanding entertainment program.
The Jimmy Dore show.
You know, I want to call up our favorite conservative actor, get his take on what's happening.
It's called Vince Vaughn.
Vince, are you there?
Hello, is Vince there?
Hello, who is this?
Identify yourself immediately.
This is Jimmy Dore from the Jimmy Dore show.
Okay, you know what?
You're lucky.
I just had a gun pointed at my phone.
I don't think it works like that.
I don't think it works like that, Vince.
Vince, I'm calling to get your take on what's happening right now with the protests.
Can you believe that they killed a man in Minneapolis?
What's going on?
Look at our beautiful city, Jimmy.
They're tearing it apart.
No, no, Vince.
They're just protesting.
The cops are causing most of the violence.
They're protesting by a bunch of surfers breaking into a surf shop and running off with surfboards.
Come on.
I think those are agent provocateurs.
Most of the protests are peaceful.
It's Antifa.
Yeah.
Antifa.
Your friends.
I bet you remember, aren't you?
What's your secret handshake, Jimmy?
Yeah, I don't know.
Do you guys have like a slogan like the Boy Scouts?
Where do I go?
I'd love to join you.
I resolve on my best honor to fuck everything up for everyone in the world.
Aren't you even a little appalled at the level of police violence that's happening?
Look, it was terrible what happened to George Floyd.
That should never have happened.
That cop should be punished.
But that's it.
That's all that I can see.
Okay.
The rest of this is pissing me the fuck off.
But don't you think the government should maybe take care of the people a little?
Give them a UBI since they had to...
Maybe they should take care of the people, give them health care, education, whatever they need.
Well, apparently no one wants to fucking go to a job because they wouldn't be downtown throwing fucking cans of beans at the cops all the fucking day.
They're doing exactly what they would be doing.
They're living their best life.
But did you see Trump was saying he supported peaceful protesters and then he had the police gas them and beat them with batons and hit them with rubber bullets so he could go hold up a Bible in front of that church?
That was one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen in my life, Jimmy.
That brave, beautiful soldier.
Yeah.
Trudging 200 yards, standing in front of an unfamiliar building.
And holding up a Bible like you just cut its head off.
It was awesome.
That is how he held it up.
But doesn't it, Bobby?
I know you're a libertarian, Vince.
You care about freedom and liberty.
And doesn't it bother you that Trump just tramples on the freedom of assembly and speech and the right to redress your government for grievances just like that?
He just goes out.
How has he done that?
How has he done that?
Because he sent out the cops to tear gas and club those peaceful protesters.
The cops should do that anyway.
Donald Trump's not in charge of the cops.
No, in front of the White House he is.
Yeah, those are Secret Service he called to do that.
Ah, okay.
Well, okay.
You know what?
You want to make an omelet?
You got to crack some fucking skulls, bitch.
So this doesn't conflict with your libertarian ideology whatsoever, what the cops are doing.
I don't like it when the cops bother me.
Okay.
I don't like it when I get pulled over.
Did you see Pat Robertson actually came out against Trump gassing those people in front of his White House?
Well, isn't that proof?
Isn't that proof that him doing that was a good thing, then?
First of all, who's watching 700 Club?
So don't you feel like a bit of a bootlicker when you defend cops?
Let me tell you something, Jimmy.
And you may not know this, but boots are fucking delicious.
Have you ever tried one?
No.
I bet you'd like it.
No, I grew up Catholic, and that was against the...
Did you see that?
Oh, say anything?
Yes.
And he blamed it on Russia.
He did?
Well, he did.
Yeah, he said Putin and Trump and blah, blah, blah.
Yeah.
Yeah, he did.
I can't believe you missed this.
Jimmy, when I got famous, I swore a very solemn oath not to make fun of other famous people.
Especially.
This is a ceremony that we do in the Grove.
I will not go back on my oath.
I won't do it.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, listen, Vince.
Any advice to people to get through this time?
Yeah, stay away from private property, you fucking animals.
Stay home.
Remember when we were supposed to stay home?
Correct.
Bye bye to that.
Night night.
Good night, fears.
Oh, pandemic.
We tucked the pandemic into bed and fucking rented a story.
Give a little kiss on the forehead.
All right, Vince, I appreciate you taking time to talk with us.
Stay safe, pal.
And hopefully, if it comes to a civil war, we'll be on the same side.
Jimmy, I am surrounded by guns right now.
I'm going to be totally fine.
Like, I can't even walk.
I have to, like, hop across this floor.
You got so many guns.
Yeah, I don't even know what that thing over there is.
I'm going to call it the widowmaker.
Okay.
All right.
Who's there?
Boom!
Hi everybody, welcome to the Jimmy Dore Show.
Let's get to the jokes before we get to the jokes, shall we?
I don't know if you saw that photo of Trump holding up the Bible, so then they showed Hitler holding up the Bible in the same fashion.
I know that photo of Hitler holding up the Bible is a fraud, but then again, so is the Bible.
Hey, the European Space Agency says human waste will play a major role in building houses on the moon because you can make concrete when you mix lunar soil with urine.
But you're still going to get a lot of leaks.
Hey, the GOP just primaried out a racist from the November election.
The DNC would like to do the same thing, but too many of their wives eat dinner with the Biden family.
Bam!
You know, one way to flatten a deadly curve might be to stop exposing people to cops.
You ever think of that?
You know the neoliberal's motto?
You know what the neoliberal's motto is?
The only good Republican is one who calls himself a Democrat.
Hey, remember, America, your choice this November is between the party that does horrible things things and the party that lets them do it did you know that the former officials from george w bush's administration just formed a super pack to support Joe Biden.
I'm still going to reserve my endorsement until we hear from Dick Cheney's first heart.
Hey, what's coming up on today's show?
Cops run over pedestrians on camera in broad daylight, and the New York mayor defends it.
Hey, the real looting of America, CNN won't show you.
Bill de Blasio's crazy double standard when cops run over citizens and when citizens run over cops.
Plus, we got phone calls today from Vince Vaughn, Jeb Bush, Barack Obama, and Chuck Schumer, plus a lot lot more.
That's today on the Jimmy Dore Show.
Every day seems a lifetime.
Let me show you the way.
So another day of police violence in America.
I don't know if you've watched, we've dropped some videos today already of the police violence.
There's some more to come.
It's just the ultimate irony that the protests are and the riots are about police brutality and cops keep running over people with their cars on camera.
I just want to show people this one more time.
So the lady goes up and says, what's going to happen at 8 o'clock after the curfew?
What's going to happen after that?
There's 8 o'clock curfew.
What's going to happen?
Listen to what the cops says.
It's hard to hear.
Can I ask you what's going to happen at 8?
What's going to happen?
We're going to start beating the fuck out of you.
What's going to happen is we're going to start beating the fuck out of you.
That's your America.
And then, of course, 8 o'clock comes.
8 o'clock comes and here's.
Jesus.
Jesus.
You're not doing anything, you fucking bitch!
You're not doing anything!
What the?
I'm fucked!
Stop it!
What the fuck?
I'm fucked!
Those are out of control, fucking Al-Qaeda.
Those are out-of-control terrorists on the streets of Los Angeles.
Those are out-of-control terrorists.
Cops are terrorists.
You see a cop tell him he's a fucking terrorist because they're terrorists.
Fuck the police.
At Cab.
Fuck them.
You want to see some more cops here?
Watch this.
These are.
Watch this.
Look at this.
They just keep coming.
Go off!
Go inside!
Get inside!
Get inside!
I think we're gonna take a while.
Get inside.
Get your health out.
Let's go.
Light him up.
Go inside now.
Stay out of the hill.
Light him up.
Shoot him.
Shoot these people.
Light them up.
They're not being aggressive.
Light them.
They're standing in their house.
They're filming.
They're standing in their house.
Get in, get in, get in, get in, get in, get in.
That's called fascism.
Thank you.
That's Nazi Germany shit.
Where's the good cop there?
There isn't any.
There are no good cops.
Where's the good cop?
They don't exist.
Because if there was a good person there and he tried to do something, they'd fucking shoot him.
Go watch the movie Serpico.
That's how cops, they're all criminals.
And if you stand up and say something, they will kill you.
That's America.
That's your right-wing America.
That's your authoritarian dress.
Trump's America.
By the way, it's not only Trump.
It's fucking every Democratic mayor, too.
It's Bill de Blasio.
It's Eric Garcetti.
This is bipartisan.
Americans are conservative.
Democrats are conservative.
Republicans are conservative.
The conservative brain is fucked up.
They're okay with this.
They're okay with that.
They're okay with that.
You don't beat people with clubs to restore order.
You beat people with clubs to create a riot.
And that's what cops love to do.
Cowards and fucking bullies.
They're the worst people in the world, and we give them guns.
And how do I know they are?
Because I know cops.
Have you ever met a cop?
I've lived with cops my entire life.
My grandpa, my dad, my little brother, my best friends.
And they're all assholes.
The idea that, you know, we've seen this violence on the cities, in the streets, in business areas, and near the city halls.
And then you see that video of them walking through a neighborhood and telling people to get inside to that.
Light them up.
Light them up.
Like, you're just there to be shot at.
You're just fucking whenever, at your whim, shoot people.
So I can't videotape you.
I'm standing on my porch.
I can't even look at.
They were just standing in their doorway with their door open.
That's terrifying.
And it's good.
The country's getting a good look at what police are.
Police are fucking out of control, steroided up, brutal fucking maniacs.
In New York, this happened, right?
So this happened yesterday in New York.
So these cops just get confronted.
They drive into a crowd of protesters.
And then another cop comes up and decides, fuck these protesters.
I'm just going to drive right over them.
Look at that.
You see this, right?
So cops are just running over.
They're just running over people.
Like, that's the kind of stuff you would expect.
I don't know, in East Germany, Nazis.
I don't know where else you would expect that.
I don't know where else they would do that.
Oh, I know New York City and Los Angeles, the two biggest cities in the United States.
So that happened.
And there's lots of other, I don't have to show you women, cops kicking women in the face who are sitting down.
Cops banging women's heads against the concrete.
Cops throwing people into cars like rag dolls and not even checking on them.
Bashing their heads, making them unconscious.
Cops hitting people in the face with their guns for no reason.
It's got nothing.
Video after video after video.
And this was probably the most egregious because that shocks your conscience because that's called depraved indifference.
So what those cops just showed was depraved indifference.
I don't give a fuck.
They've got at least a shotgun and two guns, three guns in that car.
There's another cruiser coming up with three more guns.
Plus they're in a cruiser.
And let me tell you something.
If they're afraid for their life, because that's going to be the defense, I was afraid for my life.
So I figured I'd kill a bunch of people.
If these were all cops and that was a citizen, could the citizen run over the cops because they were afraid the cops were going to kill them?
Because that's what cops do.
Because cops have been beating the shit out of everybody.
Would that be okay for a citizen to plow through a bunch of cops because I'm scared?
Of course not.
The cops would rip that person out of that car and beat them probably to death And do it on camera.
And they would get off because we all saw the person ram into them with their car.
So, no, of course.
But when a cop does this, this is what the mayor of New York City says.
Get ready for this.
Some things were done very much the right way in that.
In that we kept inflicting terror on our own citizens, killing them and running over them indiscriminately with our cars and just raining hellfire terror on them.
Shooting them with rubber bullets, tear gas, you know, just terrorizing people.
Was that the, that's the stuff that was done right, Bill?
Some things were done very much the right way in that we saw there was, could you have a, could you have a more tone-deaf response to what's happening in your city?
And why he's doing this is I'm going to guess.
It's my speculation is because when he came into office, he tried to be tough with the cops and the cops gave him a spanking and he buckled immediately.
Do you remember they turned their backs on him?
Yeah.
Let's not thank God that loss of life or major injuries.
And we saw tremendous restraint overall from the NYPD.
Come on.
I don't want to sit here and show you video after video after video of the shit that I showed you yesterday that the New York cops did.
But is there anything worse than that?
Two cops running over people?
Crowds of people.
Not one person, not two, not three, crowds of people.
Can you imagine if a citizen ran through a crowd of cops because they were scared?
Because I would be scared.
There are always going to be some incidents we don't like, and I'm going to speak about that as well.
But when you composite the whole day.
There's incidents they don't like.
Not incidents that shock your conscience with their depraved indifference to human beings.
No, not that.
They just didn't like it.
Thousands upon thousands of officers in an ever-changing situation.
I saw a lot of restraint under very, very difficult circumstances.
And I'm going to keep saying to anyone who is protesting for change.
So do you think that tamps down the protests by you defending the cops like that?
Do you think that tamp's going to tamp down the protests?
Or do you think that's going to embolden the cops to be even more maniac?
Do you think it's going to embolden the cops to be even more brutal?
It's the second one.
I'll save you.
You don't have to guess.
Do not take your anger out.
The individual officer in front of you, that man or woman who is simply trying to keep the peace.
Some things were done very much the right way.
Some things were done very much the right way in that we saw there was not, thank God, that loss of life.
So then somebody, so he says that, which is just that was, again, I guess in this day and age, I'll never stop being surprised at how horrible our government is.
I'll never stop being, I guess, I didn't know I had the capacity to still be shocked at something stupid an elected official would say during a crisis like this or after a riot or after a police misconduct.
I thought I was past it.
I'm not.
I still have the capacity because I'm still, I decided to do a shot.
I wasn't going to do a show today.
I did a show today because I saw this guy's press conference.
Not because those cops ran over people and they're doing it again today.
I'm going to show you that in a second, but because he did this press conference.
And so watch what a normal person is sitting in the audience and asks him this question.
Because it's like, hey, Bill, did someone hit you in the head with a pipe?
Are you on drugs?
Did your mom drop you on your head when you were a kid?
Or are you just fucking lying?
So watch, because watch what this guy says to him.
Are you not a normal human being, Bill de Blasio?
Because you don't seem like a normal human being right now.
You don't seem like a normal human being.
You seem like someone who's in charge of a bunch of terrorists who are fucking brutalizing people and you're running cover.
You're doing propaganda for them.
Oh, no, we're helping everyone.
You're like Baghdad Bob.
You're just a liar.
Hi, everyone.
Mr. Mayor, I wanted to ask you about the video of the vehicle driving into the crowd.
I guess I'm wondering whether driving forward into the crowd is even on the table in that scenario.
How is that an allowable response?
Okay, so that is exactly what a normal human being would say.
Not, hey, they showed great restraint.
Could you imagine, like, after you just saw cops run over people, the first thing you say is they showed great restraint.
Can you imagine that in your city on broad daylight on television?
You saw two cop cars run over crowds of people, and the first thing you say is, oh my God, the cops did a great job.
And here's just a regular reporter going, okay, wait a minute.
I don't even know.
In what scenario is driving over people on the table as an option?
In what scenario in your brain, Bill, is it?
You lying, corrupted fucking piece of shit.
In what scenario?
That's what he asks.
Hi, everyone.
Mr. Mayor, I wanted to ask you about the video of the vehicle driving into the crowd.
I guess I'm wondering whether driving forward into the crowd is even on the table in that scenario.
How is that an allowable response?
How is that a legal response?
And you mentioned humanity.
How is that a humane response?
So what I'm basically saying is, Bill, stop it.
You sound like a depraved human being.
Are you depraved, Bill de Blasio?
Is there something wrong with your brain that that video didn't shock your conscience?
Because there is something wrong with you, isn't it?
You don't have any internal moral meter, Bill de Blasio.
You're another vacuous, empty, narcissistic, sociopathic politician.
That's what that is.
You're looking at a guy presiding over terrorism, an outright fucking attempted murder of their own citizens, and he's defending it.
Why?
Because he's a corrupt, pussy motherfucker.
We're going to fully investigate that incident.
I want to be clear.
Oh, really?
Hey, why don't you get some more cops to investigate it?
Are you going to get some more cops to investigate it?
Or are you going to get Cornell West?
I bet I know what the answer to that question is.
You're going to get some more cops to investigate it, right?
Well, let's see.
It has to be investigated systematically.
Everything needs to be looked at.
That's part of what.
Yeah, it's a real, it's a real Rubik's Cube what happened.
It's got to really be investigated.
And so what about the guy's question?
In what scenario is that even an option to run over?
He's not, he just ignores it.
Watch this, though.
Police will do with internal affairs.
That's part of what.
So that's, there it is.
That's their investigation.
They're going to do it with internal affairs.
The cops are going to investigate themselves after the mayor already publicly said it was probably okay what they did.
Watch what he says.
Jim Johnson and Margaret Garnett will do, and they will do it quickly.
The facts have to be determined.
They will do it quickly and they will fudge the results and they will core skew it and they will find a way to let those cops off because that's what we do.
Immediately.
You guys didn't even charge the guy who killed Eric Garner on camera.
I think you can see on its face, it was a very dangerous, tense, complex situation.
You know, complex.
Cops in cars, fully armored, gunned up to the teeth, coming upon peaceful protesters that were unarmed.
Pumped up on steroids.
And they're all, by the way, they're also the cops are pumped up on steroids.
So maybe that's the complicated part.
How much steroids did they have in their body?
How many infractions do you think those cops who ran over those people have?
Dozen?
Two dozen?
You think they've killed people before?
Is that part of the investigation, Bill?
And the humanity of all people involved must be considered in the equation.
All people.
So this is him doing there's good people on all sides.
This is Bill de Blasio's moment, just like Trump after Charlottesville.
This is him going, there's good people on all sides.
We have to think about the humanity of people on all sides.
That's his moment.
This is it.
This is Trump, another New Yorker, just like Trump.
This is him.
To you with, you know, could they have done this thing, that thing?
Because I wasn't there and I don't know the nuances of it.
I know what happened.
Very nuanced situation.
That was super nuanced.
And I wasn't there.
I wasn't in Cambodia when Nixon decided to bomb it.
I don't have to be there to know it was wrong.
What did you want to say?
Somebody questioned: how about maybe the police were trying to help somebody at that moment?
Yeah, by running them over.
Hey, maybe black is white and up is down.
Did you ever think of that?
Maybe in is out?
I bet you in is out.
Don't like.
I don't ever want to see a police officer do that, period.
He doesn't like it.
Ever.
He doesn't like it.
But I also know that there was an extremely dangerous situation.
And the one thing they couldn't do was stay there.
Can I say this, Jimmy?
It's an extremely dangerous situation that has been created by the police.
Created by those cops.
And continues to escalate because of cops.
I don't know if you saw the towns where the cops decided to march with the protesters.
No violence.
Flint, Michigan, and I think Camden, New Jersey.
Jimmy, you actually said.
You actually said, what if those cops actually got out of the vehicle and joined the protest?
So what if those cops got out of the car and joined the protesters and said, hey, I'm here to help you.
How can I help you guys?
You want to burn my car?
They were afraid.
Like, they couldn't call their cop buddies and they wouldn't have 100 cop buddies there in two seconds.
It's New York City.
It's not a big city, Manhattan.
And then the one thing they couldn't do was stay there.
I don't want to see a police officer do that, period.
Period, ever.
But I also know that there was an extremely dangerous situation, and the one thing they couldn't do was stay there.
So that's Bill de Blasio preemptively excusing all the police violence that has happened and all the police violence that's going to happen tonight or tomorrow or however long.
That's Bill de Blasio guaranteeing there will be a lot more police violence.
That's what he's doing.
He's doing what Trump is doing.
That's what Bill de Blasio is doing right now.
And because he's not screaming it or he doesn't have a comb over or he doesn't have orange skin, that doesn't mean he's not doing the exact thing.
And that's what Bill de Blasio, hey, the cops are going to investigate themselves.
And, you know, they got a tough job.
And instead of going out, that was depraved, what they did.
That shocks the conscience what they did.
No, he's like, no, they, you know, they reared their humans and they had to get out of there.
What if that was your kid standing in front of him, Bill?
How would you feel then?
You fucking bullshitting, corrupted liar, you piece of shit coward.
What a piece of shit coward Bill de Blasio is.
What if that was your kid getting run over?
You know, your black kid.
That just shows you the guy cares more about power and maintaining his power than he does even protecting his own kid.
That's the craven emptiness of Bill de Blasio.
And right now, I'm not the only one saying this.
People are calling for him to resign.
Or he's getting, I'm calling for him to resign.
He's getting a lot of backlash.
Put it that way.
Here's how Andrew Cuomo, who also is another craven, corrupted enemy of the people, even he knows that you can't say this shit.
Even he knows that you have to pretend to be upset.
Does Bill de Blasio look upset even?
No.
He looks like a guy who's defending bad actions, trying to dismiss things, trying to whitewash what happened, trying to water down what actually happened.
That's what he's doing.
He's excusing attempted murder, blatant in broad daylight.
Here is, I mean, imagine if you saw that in another country.
They'd be saying, we got, oh, wait, did you see what Venezuela is over?
We got to go.
That's what Maduro is a dictator.
He's a thug.
Look what their cops do.
They run over peaceful protesters on the streets.
We got to invade them and save their people.
Who's going to invade New York?
So here's Cuomo.
These situations are very, very difficult.
I've seen them.
I've been there.
Everybody is under stress.
They are very difficult situations to manage.
The police are in an impossible situation in many ways.
But their behavior is everything.
And I've seen those videos, and those videos are truly disturbing.
And some of the videos, frankly, are inexplicable to me.
What do we do about it?
I've asked the Attorney General, who is an independent elected official, to review the police conduct activities in the protests last night, the night before, if there's one tonight.
And then I want an independent, informed review of what was done right, what was done wrong.
I want that report in 30 days.
A little bit of a different tone, Andrew Cuomo, than Bill de Blasio.
A little bit of a different tone.
Hey, by the way, we're not going to let the cops investigate themselves on this.
We're going to have an elected official, an independent elected official do it.
The attorney, I still don't like that.
But then he said they're also going to have an end because politicians are beholden, especially to cop unions.
Are you crazy?
But he's now saying we're going to have an independent board.
I don't know who that's going to be.
Again, I don't think it's going to be Cornell West.
Right?
I don't think Killer Mike's going to be on that independent panel.
Right?
You see what I'm saying?
I don't think Colin Kaepernick is going to be on that independent panel.
I'm no friend of Cuomo's.
No, Cuomo's horrible.
He's horrible.
Right?
But this is surprising.
Even he knows that you have to handle this a little bit fucking better than Bill de Blasio.
You have to actually act like you care.
He's acting like he cares.
He's a great actor.
His brother's on television.
He has a television show.
They're great actors.
And that's what this is.
At least he knows to do that.
You know what?
That will help actually tamp down the violence because he's making promises of the people who were just brutalized by those police.
He's saying, we got two independent investigations.
The cops aren't going to do it.
It's going to be on my desk in 30 days.
We're going to take care of this.
It's going to be taken care of after everybody has moved on.
We're going to do it right now.
We're going to investigate it.
And by the way, what they did is inexplicable.
Not, well, we have to look at the humanity on all sides and the facts.
He said, I saw the videos.
Inexplicable.
A little bit of a different you want to see some of the great stuff the cops did in New York, right?
So here's a cop going up to a woman, and a woman, he says, get out of the street.
And then he knocks her phone out of her hand for absolutely no reason, just knocks it out.
And then the next moment, he does this to her.
I don't know if you saw that, but here, watch here.
Boom.
That's about a hundred.
That's about a hundred-pound girl.
And he gave her a con, she had, she got hit on the head, she cracked, smacked her head on the concrete, and she had a seizure.
Had to go to a hospital.
And he did that right in front of his boss.
His boss has the white shirt on.
Those are the sergeants and the lieutenants.
He did it.
It was right in front of him.
He did it, pushed her, slapped her phone away.
But why the fuck would you do that?
Was she threatening you?
No, that guy's hopped up on steroids, most likely.
And he's done this stuff his entire career, right in front of his boss.
That's how cops act.
And that guy probably goes home and does that to his wife.
He probably beats his wife.
You know who has the highest domestic violence rates, right?
Cops.
And that's why they become cops because they're violent motherfuckers and they get off on this shit.
And Bill de Blasio is trying to act like there isn't a problem with police culture.
That you got to start over.
No, Bill de Blasio buckled to the police union like a fucking cuck because he is one.
And he just guaranteed there's going to be more police violence tonight in New York City.
That's what Bill de Blasio.
That's your leadership from Bill de Blasio guaranteeing more police violence against his own citizens.
A city already rife with stopping frisk happen in New York City.
Cops should be apologizing every day to citizens.
She had to go to the hospital shit.
And oh, by the way, and then so here's some more cops.
Watch them come throw this guy around like a rad guy.
So these cops, they're beating the shit out of someone.
They're just all on top.
They're all beating the shit out of one guy.
And you hear the other guy, what do you do?
He's screaming.
What the hell's wrong with you?
He's like, what's wrong?
That's what I've been saying about cops.
What's wrong with you?
Oh, I know.
Well, you have to put in your head.
They're violent criminals who join the police department and they get covered to do criminal behavior because they wear a badge.
And as Chris Hedges pointed out on this show yesterday, even when he was covering wars for 20 years, every Army unit knew that they had one or two psychopaths who were just going to spray and mow down citizens anywhere they went.
And they would sometimes do it and they all cover for him.
Oh, that's the same thing cops do.
They know they're psychopaths and they all cover for them, which makes them all criminals.
And so watch this guy.
They're just beating the fuck out of this guy.
And then this guy's just standing there and he just grabs him from behind and whips him like a ragdoll.
He didn't like take him, like pull him out of the thing safely.
He's trying to crack the guy's head open, kill him.
He's trying to kill that guy.
Watch this.
And what?
The cop doesn't even go to check on him.
They come over to start beating the fuck out of this other guy.
That guy's knocked out.
Let him die.
Let's make sure we, that's six cops on top of one fucking kid.
Because cops are cowards and pussies.
If you didn't know, what kind of a fucking tough guy pushes a woman down and cracks her head open?
What kind of a tough guy grabs a guy from behind and throws him into a car?
Those aren't tough guys.
Those are cowards.
There's two kinds of people who become cops, bullies and people who were bullied.
Those are the two, that's what your two choices.
You want to see that again?
Cops, just mayhem.
Just beating the shit out of anybody and everybody.
And no one else gets to beat up cops.
No one else gets to grab them.
Nobody.
Cops have a monopoly on violence.
They're allowed to beat the shit out of anybody anywhere at any time.
And you're not even allowed to defend yourself from them.
Here's a lady who did defend herself.
Well, not her.
Actually stood up for someone else.
See this lady in the red?
What does she weigh?
About 95 pounds?
Cops are fucking brutalizing someone in front of her, and she jumps in.
You can't fucking do that!
Push that other one.
And this woman comes in.
And you see how easily that cop went down?
What a lump of shit that cop is.
That's a cop out to protect someone.
I wouldn't let you be a crossing guard.
A 95-pound woman just fucking ripped your bike out of your hand and threw you to the ground.
And you're beating up someone else?
Not so smart, is it?
Shit, they would never do unless they knew they had the impunity of being a cop to assault you.
They would never do that one-on-one at a party.
They would never do that one-on-one at a bar.
They would never do that anywhere.
That's what cowards do.
You can't fucking do that!
What's up?
Oh, my God!
That's a dude.
That's a dude.
That's a guy with a mustache brutalizing a woman, and then that woman immediately kicks his fucking ass.
That's the kind of cucks that are cops in New York City.
And here's what's, and that's at the Barclay Center, and here's what cops are doing at the Barclay Center.
Bill de Blasio, want to see the restraint they were showing?
Here's the restraint they were showing.
They're just beating the guy.
What does that do when you do this?
When you beat a guy with a club like this, does he go, oh, okay.
Or does he try to fight?
They're just violent maniacs just spewing violence as they go.
Now they're going to surround this guy.
But watch out.
And they start beating women.
Watch this.
In broad daylight, they're doing this in broad daylight.
They're all fucking such coward pussies.
Cops are such cowards.
Look at this.
They all got their clubs out.
And they're the only ones who are allowed to have clubs.
And they just beat you with impunity.
Look at that.
Just beating the shit out of everybody.
Such fucking cowards.
Such bully.
Look at that.
And you see that guy with the baseball cat backwards?
See that?
Those dudes?
Yes, those are cops.
Do they look like they're in uniform cops?
No.
No.
Those are infiltrators.
Yes.
Those are infiltrators.
So the cops have their cop buddies dressed up like protesters and they infiltrate and they light fires and they break windows and they start violence.
That's their playbook 101 in case you didn't know.
So whenever you're in a crowd in a protest, there's cops all over the place dressed like you.
And they're the ones trying to find out who the leaders are.
And they're the ones breaking windows.
And they're the ones pushing people into the cops to try to start violence.
This is what they do.
This is what cops do.
Cops show up.
There's going to be mayhem.
It's if the crip showed up.
Or, I don't know, Al-Qaeda showed up.
That's what you would think would happen somewhere in Afghanistan.
A bunch of fucking thugged men, the crazy religious mentals, came in and just started beating everybody with sticks in broad daylight.
That's what they're doing.
And Bill de Blasio said he saw amazing restraint.
This is restraint.
This is restraint.
There's a police riot happening.
The cops are creating a riot.
And how?
by beating the fuck out of anybody who looks at them cross-eyed.
Get it, get it, get it, get it!
See that guy?
That guy.
That's right.
I know.
I know.
This guy pushing people, trying to start fights.
Does he look like he's in the corner?
Does he look like a cop?
And so people say, oh, Jimmy, my grandfather was a Chicago cop.
My dad was a Chicago cop for 40 years.
My fucking oldest brother was a Chicago cop.
Some of my best friends in Chicago are cops.
And they're all assholes.
They're nice to me.
They're nice to me because they know me.
But that's who cops are in a group.
One-on-one individual with you.
They can often be regular people.
Well, when you get them with their shield on and in a crowd with their other cops, they're all like this.
Fucking out of their minds.
Where's the good cop here, by the way?
Do you see the good cop?
Is there a good cop there anywhere?
Or is this just a bunch of out-of-control brutal maniacs?
That's all there is.
Remember, it's just a few bad apples.
Well, then there should be like a bunch of good cops there.
There's none.
There are no good cops.
They're a bunch of fucking thugs hopped up on steroids looking to crack some heads.
And Bill de Blasio says they showed amazing restraint.
Fucking Bill de Blasio.
Hello?
Oh, I am so mad.
Stop the probe.
Stop the probe, I say.
Senator Chuck Schubert, what's happening?
Master of the Senate.
All right, Chuck, Master of the Senate.
Got it.
Thank you.
I am so mad.
Beyond words and thoughts and prayers, I tell you.
Trump's reaction to the coronavirus, Trump's reaction to the protest.
What is it?
Oh, we'll get to those things later.
I'm talking about their finagling.
They're shenanigans, the scamps.
This probe against our friends at the FBI.
These crazy Republicans who don't believe Russia tried to turn off Vermont's heat during a polar vortex.
Stop with the crazy conspiracies already.
I mean, come on, will you?
Conspiracies?
I beseech this conspiracy caucus to stop their silly probes and whatnot and finally admit Hillary lost because of all those fancy Facebook ads.
But will they?
I think not.
I'm sorry this is upsetting you so much.
This is outlandish.
They're probing our probe.
You can't probe someone else's probe.
It's against the rules of probing.
These animals.
I say to thee, stop the probe.
I command it.
Well, it doesn't look like they're going to stop it, Chuck.
I think America's attention is elsewhere, Jimmy.
All I can say is thank goodness for the coronavirus and all these protests.
Okay, I didn't say that, but I was thinking it.
That's the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
We don't say the things we're thinking, and they do.
We have a clear choice, I know.
And one more thing, Jimmy.
Today, the GOP leadership said they're sticking with their plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
How tone-deaf can they be during a pandemic to deny access to all these great, affordable health plans?
The silver one, the gold one, or even the platinum.
I am just appalled.
Are you appalled, Jimmy?
Now might be a good time to back Medicare for all, Chuck.
Not in a time of crisis, Jimmy.
It's unconscionable that the president hid in a basement while America's cities were rioting.
Doesn't Congress deserve a basement, too?
Where are we supposed to hide?
In our piano parlors, our vineyards?
Our foyers, where all our vermeers are displayed?
Fuck that noise.
Well, people are kind of pissed off, Senator.
I agree.
George Floyd's family deserves justice.
But here's the thing.
And you might want to sit down for this.
This was not an isolated incident.
Oh, my.
I'm shocked.
Not as shocked as I, Jimmy.
But I did some Googling, and sure enough, this police brutality stuff happens with alarming frequency in Republican cities.
Listen, Democrats control 64 of America's 100 largest cities.
But of course, what?
It's true.
New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Atlanta.
That is simply unacceptable, pardon, my friends.
And I pledge to send a sternly worded letter to whoever's in charge as soon as this dreadful probe probe is over with.
But we can't do it without your help, Jimmy.
Can we have a donation?
Bernie hasn't given us his mailing list yet.
No.
Barbarian.
I guess it's true what people are saying.
You're no Alyssa Milano.
Don't probe the probe.
I am no Alyssa Milano.

That's Jeb Bush.
I wonder why he's calling now.
Gosh darn it all.
Just when I'm starting to get my groove back, everything gets all crummy again.
Things suck.
I'm going to go eat worms.
I'm sorry, Jeb.
What's wrong?
No, I won't tell you.
I'm eating worms now and you can't stop me.
Won't, won't, won't.
See?
What happened?
What happened?
People were paying attention to me and my education expertness again.
That's what.
And everything goes to all heck, and nobody cares about me anymore.
Well, eating worms over here in case anybody's interested.
He is such a child.
We're interested, Jeb.
Believe me, we're interested.
yeah.
Nobody knows who I am anymore.
I'm like the Florida Attorney General when I was governor.
Nobody remembers him either.
You mean Catherine Harris?
Oh, wow, he was a girl.
What did she do that was so gosh dang important?
She gave the 2000 presidential election to your brother.
Hugh Hewitt is a big dookie head.
What?
What did Hugh Hewitt do?
My brother makes some dumb statement about all those riders and looters and stuff, and suddenly he's like, Gumby.
You know what he said?
He said, President George W. Bush remains an extraordinary leader, a man of sincere faith, deep compassion, and an example of the highest level of decency in public affairs.
Come on, Jeb.
You've got to get out of your brother's shadow and strike out on your own.
More shit.
What?
No, nothing.
I was just coughing.
Can't the guy cough?
Free country.
Free country.
What part of Hewitt's statement do you object to?
The bullshit part.
Why?
He's the darling of the Democratic Party now and might even endorse Joe Biden.
You shouldn't be jealous of that.
I should have been the darling of the Democratic Party.
My dumbass brother got the easy way out.
He ran against dicks like Gore and Carey.
I had to compete against Donald Trump.
That guy's mean.
Everything sucks.
Hey, can you get me on that one?
I've been practicing my dance moves.
Oh, forget it.
I'll forget it.
I'm eating worms.
Shut up.
You suck.
We have special guests with us to help break down what's going on right now.
He's a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and activist, best-selling author.
He's written 12 books, which include his latest right here, America the Farewell Tour, which kind of chronicled and predicted this happening.
His work can be found in the New York Times.
Please welcome back to the show.
It's Chris Hedges.
Hi, Chris.
Hey, Jimmy.
Thanks for being with us.
Your book, you know, I just can't stop thinking about it.
You chronicled the hollowing out of American cities by capitalism and how it leaves people in the dust and all the horror stories and the pathologies that come out of having an economic system like this.
Are you surprised this is happening?
No.
I mean, I've covered, I was overseas for 20 years.
I covered all sorts of uprisings and street protests, all the revolutions in Eastern Europe, the two Palestinian intifadas, the street demonstrations that brought down Slobodamilosevich.
And if you're a reporter and that book, like all my books is reported, that one was reported from all over the country, from most of the poorest pockets of the country.
You know the Tinder is there, but you never know what's going to ignite it.
You never know what's going to set it off.
That's always a mystery, the timing, but that the Tinder was there.
And of course, now it's exacerbated by the fact that the system can't handle the stress of COVID-19.
Our healthcare system, our federal, there's no coordination, the lack of stockpiling because it's not economically efficient.
And then the whole, let's talk about the real looting, the looting of the U.S. Treasury by the two parties on behalf of their corporate sponsors, which ratchets up the pain with kind of tossing crumbs, a stimulus check, extending unemployment benefits if you can even get unemployment benefits, which are all going around in July.
So nobody's going to have any money.
Everybody's going to start getting evicted.
You know, these oligarchs know only one word, and that's more.
So here are the two big bandits right now.
There's Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi.
They even have masks over their faces as they go into loot America.
And what do you mean by the looting, Jimmy?
Well, the CARES Act, which was our government's response to the COVID crisis, they actually didn't respond to the COVID crisis.
What they did was they used this as an opportunity to loot the Treasury on behalf of the richest people in America and transfer wealth upward.
And it was the biggest transfer of wealth in the history of our country.
And instead of fixing the problem, which was they should have given us Medicare for all, UBI set up ways to make sure businesses didn't have to close like they're doing in Germany.
And they're not doing any of that stuff.
And as Dylan Radigan put on this show, the metaphor he used was that let's say America is a car and our car's on the freeway and it ran out of gas and it's on the side of the road.
Well, it's not politics.
It's not left or right.
You just show up, you put gas in the car.
But instead, what our government did was show up and they ripped the radio out of it and then they put the car up on blocks and stole the tires.
And they still didn't put gas in it.
So that's where we're left right now.
And how did they loot it?
Well, they just gave $5 trillion to the richest people in the country.
Here's from the New York Times.
Wealthiest hospitals got billions in bailout for struggling health providers.
Bonanza for rich real estate investors tucked into stimulus package.
American billionaires got $434 billion richer during this pandemic.
Firms that left U.S. to cut taxes could qualify for federal aid.
Stealth bailout shovels millions of dollars to oil companies.
How some rich Americans are getting stimulus checks averaging $1.7 million.
Hey, millionaires reap 80% of the benefits from the tax changes and U.S. coronavirus stimulus.
Large troubled companies got bailout money and small business loan program.
Airlines got the sweetest coronavirus bailout around.
And what did the Democrats have to offer?
Joe Biden will fundamentally change nothing.
So that's the looting that I'm talking about.
And that's the looting you're talking about too, right, Chris?
Yeah.
I mean, the Democrats, you know, it's worse than just going along with the Republicans.
When they could have stepped back and provided health care coverage for all these Americans, not only who don't have it, but they're losing it.
43 million Americans are going to lose their employee-sponsored health insurance.
What did the Democrats do?
This was a Pelosi proposal, is they decide to fund Cobra.
Cobra, I got Cobra when I got bounced out of the New York Times.
It's where you get your employee-sponsored health insurance, but you got to pay the premiums every month.
So rather than address, which is economically far more expensive.
And of course, the for-profit health insurance industry and the pharmaceutical industry have been very generous with campaign donations in the last quarter because the lobbyists are and they gave bailouts to quote-unquote trade organizations, which are lobbying groups.
I mean, it's just, it's been staggering.
I mean, you ran through a few of the headlines, but it's appalling.
And at the same time, the situation for the working class, the middle class, the working poor is catastrophic.
I mean, our hunger levels are rising.
Food banks have 10,000 people showing up.
The rounds of evictions, which are predicted for this summer, are in the tens of thousands.
I mean, it's really, it's Louis 16th in Versailles.
It really is.
It just shows you how utterly myopic and out of touch the ruling elites are because it doesn't, at this point, you don't have to be a social scientist to figure out what's going to happen.
Yes, you do not.
It's even worse than the French Revolution when they said let them eat cake because the problem with people, by the way we do it in America is that we tie your job to your health care.
So when you lose your job, you lose your health care.
And the big idea from Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton was, hey, let's make Donald Trump open up the ACA market so people can buy their health care.
So what they're literally saying is not let them eat cake.
They're saying let's sell them cake.
That's how bad the Democrats have gotten.
And that's why you're seeing what you're seeing.
There is no alternative to the rapacious oligarchy in America.
When the CARES Act happened, there was nothing but crumbs in there for people.
And that was when the Democrats or the progressives had all their leverage.
Because the rich oligarchs wanted that $5 trillion.
And so the Democrats could have held it up.
Nancy Pelosi is the speaker.
Bernie Sanders is a senator.
He can put a hold on any bill he wants.
They didn't do any of that.
And not only that, they voted for it.
And so they gave cover to Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the oligarchs who are doing this.
And I've been calling this, Chris, I've been calling this a betrayal by our progressive leaders.
Would you agree that it's a betrayal by our progressive leaders?
Yeah, although, I mean, it's a betrayal.
It's not like they were working on our behalf before.
It's part of a long continuum of essentially a betrayal of the, going all the way back to the Clinton administration.
So these people responded to the people they work for.
I mean, it was the CEOs of Blue Cross Blue Shield and the presidents of health insurance plans.
They're the ones who went to the Democrats and proposed this whole COBRA plan because they don't want to expand coverage.
So I think David Sirota and The Guardian called it a corporate counterrevolution.
But what they're doing, what we're doing in front of us at a time of deep distress, I mean, we're talking about, these are government figures, 25% unemployment this summer.
They are turbocharging the consolidation of wealth and power by an oligarchic elite.
I mean, you ran through that figure.
Was it $400 billion?
I mean, Bezos is making it hand over fist.
I mean, remember, Amazon didn't pay any taxes, any federal taxes last year.
In fact, they got a rebate from the government.
It's so, I think what's so stunning about it is just how clueless the ruling elites are.
They really think that they can get away with complete and utter abandonment of the citizenry, thrusting the American working class into kind of serfdom, and nobody's going to respond.
And I think what we're seeing now is not just a reaction to police violence, but a system whereby, especially poor people of color in deindustrialized urban areas, have had enough.
And you talked about policing before.
I mean, let's not forget that the whole policing system, especially in what Malcolm X called internal colonies, is about social control.
Mass incarceration, we have, of course, or 5% or 4% of the world's population.
We have 25% of the world's prison population.
It's mass incarceration and it's police terror.
And I don't use that word lightly.
It is terror.
I mean, a thousand, mostly unarmed citizens are killed in this country every year.
Thousands more are wounded.
The whole due process, habeas corpus, has been revoked if you're poor.
You don't get a jury trial.
94% of the people in our prison system never had a jury trial.
They are coerced into a plea bargaining system.
Again, it's coerced because the prosecutors, the public defenders know that half or more of the charges that have been stacked against them, they didn't commit.
It just becomes a kind of card game, which you're going to barter your sentence down to.
And then once you're in the prison system, which is a form of neo-slavery, you have a million of our 2.3 million prisoners work for for-profit corporations, making McDonald's uniforms, Victoria's Secret, Hewlett-Packard.
You know, all the big companies are in there.
They earn 22 cents an hour.
And then you have in New Jersey, we have state, it's called DEPCOR.
I mean, this is a giant state industry that uses bonded prison labor.
They make stationary office equipment, baked goods, and ship it out.
And it's all like the Free Alabama movement that rose up and organized a work stoppage in the Alabama prisons in 2014 understood.
I used to talk to them on contraband cell phones they got.
They knew that if you paid prison labor, the minimum wage, half the prison population would be out because they couldn't sustain it.
All the jobs in the when I go in, I teach in a prison.
When I go in, I pass the barber shop where they've got prisoners dressed up in barber uniforms, cutting the guards' hair, the guards' mess hall, the cleaning, everything is run by prison labor.
So if they were compensated, even at minimum wage, the system wouldn't work.
I mean, I think prisons are important because if you want to know, Dostoevsky wrote this, if you want to know what the nature of a society, look at the prisons.
And in prisons, it's the perfect corporate state.
There are laborers who earn sweatshop wages, or in some cases, Alabama, Georgia's no wages.
They can't organize.
They don't get paid for sick days.
If they create any kind of a problem, they're sent to solitary confinement.
That's what they want us all to become.
And you can see that because these large corporations now are all into these prisons, exploiting the most vulnerable.
It's not just private prisons.
That's actually a small percentage of prisons.
But everything within prisons has been privatized.
So the phone service, Global Telelink, the food service, R Mark, where prisoners are getting food poisoning right and left and serve substandard food and are hungry all the time.
JPEG, where your money transfer, everything.
A commissary is privatized.
Medical is privatized.
And of course, all these families who have family, people, loved ones who are incarcerated and they don't have any money, are being, they have to pump all this money because you got to pay in advance.
I mean, it's an appalling system.
But when you look at how this society treats the most vulnerable, you get a good window into what they want to do to the rest of us.
And I think what these uprisings are about are just that these people are squeezed now to such an extent, not only in terms of lethal, indiscriminate, unaccountable police violence in every way.
And, you know, I just want to mention about the looting, you know, of Target in places like this.
I lived in a housing project for two and a half years in Roxbury in Boston when I was in seminary.
And one of the things I learned as a white person who came from, you know, the middle class from outside that environment is that when every force around you is seeking your destruction, the only way that you can affirm yourself is to reach out and destroy back.
Many times those activities are self-destructive, but it becomes the only avenue left by which you can affirm who you are.
And that has nothing to do with race because I saw the same thing in the war wars.
I covered numerous wars for 20 years overseas.
So we on the outside don't see that long, slow drip of humiliation, oppression, degradation, stress, constant poverty until it explodes.
And then suddenly CNN shows up.
And because it's incomprehensible to the people who work for CNN, those people on the street become, quote unquote, incomprehensible.
And it's because, and, you know, why did they attack CNN?
Because CNN has rendered these people invisible.
Because all they do on CNN is sit around with people like Van Jones and some Yahoo who defends Trump talking about court gossip.
That's it.
They're courtiers.
It's court gossip.
It's like the courtiers at Versailles talking about who gets to go into the king's bedchamber or something.
But it has nothing to do with the lives of the vast majority of Americans, and especially those people, the poor, who are struggling in this country, because to the corporate state and to their advertisers who fund cable news, they don't count.
They don't matter.
And I think that's why you're seeing an anger.
And I think it's a legitimate anger.
And also, I'm just not going to shed a lot of tears over a burnt down precinct.
I'm actually against property destruction, but I didn't look at that.
And yeah, I couldn't weep over that.
I was all broken up.
I don't know about you.
But poor cops in their precinct.
John F. Kennedy said those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.
And so I just want to let you know in 2016, when they killed Philippe Castile, just walked up to his car and shot him dead as he was just sitting in his car and he told the cop, I'm not doing nothing.
Cop just panicked and pulled the trigger and shot him.
Right in front of his wife and a seven-year-old girl in the back seat.
Arrests.
So then at that point, Minneapolis people had had enough.
And the teachers and activists, they had a big protest.
Hundreds of people showed up and protests.
And of course, the cops showed up and arrested them.
So they've tried to make change.
They tried to make peaceful change before.
They've done this.
Responsible people have tried to make peaceful change.
They won't allow it.
This isn't something that people haven't been talking about at the top of their lungs for a long time.
They've been doing this for a long time.
As long as I've been doing news, people have been screaming about police brutality.
And it just gets worse and worse every day as our Congress votes to give more of our rights away to their surveillance state.
Man, Barack Obama's on the phone again.
Hello.
Hello, my ass outside agitator.
Stop hating on cops.
They're our last line of defense between us and the judicial system.
You don't think there's a fundamental problem with our police system?
Jimmy, there's good folks on both sides of the issue.
Jesus God.
That's what Trump said about Charlottesville.
Wrong again, asshole.
He said very fine people.
I'm saying good folks.
Pay attention.
Nuance.
Subtlety.
I'm known for it.
You got you frustrated, folks.
Bad apples, folks.
Bad apples.
You know, like a rotten egg in the carton.
A bad seat in the packet.
A crumpled hat on the rack.
A bad actor in the production.
A total motherfucker.
