Dealing With Sin Directly 00:15:11
Hello and welcome to the Jim Baker Family Show coming to you from the village of Morningside, USA, nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains.
Today, our special guest is author and founding pastor and senior elder of Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma, Dwayne Sheriff.
Our co-host today is Reverend Mondo De La Vega.
And now, live from Grace Street at Morningside, USA, here's your host, Pastor Ricky Baker.
Hey, friends, you're watching the PTL Television Network.
We're glad you have tuned in with us today.
Today, we have Pastor Dwayne Sheriff.
He is an author, an international apostolic teacher, a conference speaker, and he also hosts a daily broadcast called Grace and Truth.
You know, Pastor Dwayne has over four decades of ministry experience and was the founding pastor of Victory Life Church.
And we're going to be talking about his new book today called Divine Guidance, Hearing and Responding to the Voice of God.
That right there, Mondo.
We're living in 2025.
You know, somebody was saying, well, I heard this conversation.
We were talking the other day of, I was in the army and not everyone in the army is Christian.
I don't know if you know that.
You're some atheists, you know, some Muslims.
There's an atheist said, how do I even know Jesus ever really existed?
And I said, what year is it?
Yeah.
He said, 2025 AD.
2025 AD.
The time clock started then, brother.
Okay, okay.
You know, I saw his joke and I said, but you know, Jesus really did exist and we need to know how to hear and respond to the voice of God because Mondo, he wants to speak to everybody.
I think Pastor Dwayne has a little bit of experience after 40 years.
What do you say?
Amen.
And listen, anytime you get around people that have served the Lord for 40 years, you better pay attention because I think they have some things to say.
And today, this generation wants to write off the old generation.
I've seen it.
And over and over again, then the new generation of preachers get in trouble.
That's right.
Because they're not listening to God's voice.
They haven't developed a year to listen to God's voice.
They're listening to the culture.
Well, it's Bishop's phrase, Bishop Ron Webb's phrase that he uses, the danger of unpastored pastors.
Pastors who want to be pastor simply for the sake of title without being pastored or being under another minister.
It's always important.
You know, Pastor Jim Baker, 85 years old, you can talk to him.
He still has pastors.
He still has men of God over him that he says, you know, these are people who spiritually hold me accountable.
85 years old.
It's incredible.
It shows you you never stop needing accountability.
You never stop needing guidance.
You never stop needing a brother who can say, hey, get back on the straight and narrow.
Or, hey, brother, you know, that's opinion theology, not Bible-based theology.
It's important, friends, that we have those people around us that can be the ironing, sharpen, iron.
You know why?
Iron-sharpening.
There are people in Christianity that don't want to submit to any pastoral guidance.
Oh, we've seen it.
And I saw one person today that is a wild stallion.
They mean well, but I want to tell you something.
They're creating for themselves an altar of witchcraft.
You've got to, listen, I don't got time to entertain people anymore.
I don't got time to play with people's games anymore.
I didn't have in the gangs anyways.
I didn't have the time to play with people.
And today in Christianity, we are entertaining a lot of Christians that want to do their own thing and never submit to the men or the women of God.
That's right.
And then you wonder why they're not listening to God's voice.
They listen to their own intuition, but I want to tell you something.
When they come into the church, they disrupt the church.
They disrupt the Holy Spirit.
And people think that their godliness is going to come out.
Yet, listen to the first statement that comes out of their mouth.
Amen.
I quit this ministry because of what?
Yeah, I don't work there anymore.
Well, what is that going to create on the other person?
Why don't you work there anymore?
What happened?
What did you do?
What are they doing?
People always want to pull you into gossip.
We've seen that over and over.
Especially, you know, we've seen a lot of, especially over 2024, there were ministers who fell.
There were ministers who had troubles in their ministry.
And people would call our phones.
I don't know if we experienced this quite a bit, and I experienced this quite a bit.
And they say, Well, you should talk about X, Y, and Z on the broadcast.
You should talk about these issues happening.
And they were demanding that we would address these issues.
And I said, Brother, there is something called grace.
There's something called the peace of God.
There's something that, and I'm not one to sit here and try to expose other ministers.
I'm not going to sit here and try to take a log or a splinter out of somebody else's eye when I have a log in my own eye.
It might not be the same sin.
But, brother, all men sin and fall short of the glory of God.
But it's always people who want to drag you into gossip.
And I've talked about this to our church many, many Sundays.
I say, I thank you for being a church that doesn't gossip.
And I had a lady come up to me afterward and she said, Brother, you know, we do still have gossipers in the church.
And I said, yes, but I am speaking into existence because I believe there's power and death in our tongue through the blood of Jesus Christ.
And so I'm speaking into existence.
That conviction can fall on those who do that, who call and say, well, you guys need to be addressing X, Y, and Z. You guys need to be, you know, essentially what they would be asking us to do is justifying gossip because we do it in a form of a television show.
But, you know, like you said, time's too short.
Friends, I believe Jesus Christ is coming back soon.
We don't have the time to entertain witchcraft.
And friends, Pastor, if you're watching this right now, deacon, elder, congregate member, we don't have the time to entertain witchcraft.
I'm telling you right now, if it's in your church, rid of it, Pastor.
You must do that.
The Lord is coming back for what, Mondo?
A bride that is spotless, without blame, that is holy.
Friends, there has to be a church here on earth that is that thing.
We must become a church that once again hates unrighteousness, hates unholiness, and we love righteousness and we love holiness.
There's only one place that true righteousness can be found.
It's Jesus Christ.
There's only one place that true holiness can be found.
It's Jesus Christ.
There's only one place true peace can be found.
It's Jesus Christ.
There's only one place true joy can be found.
It's Jesus Christ.
I sound like a broken record, friend.
I will for the rest of my life.
There is only one place where every good and perfect gift flows from.
It is Jesus Christ.
And Mondo, you find out quickly.
We see churches across the United States of America, which is crazy to me, that were introducing to their congregations what they were calling.
And I say this with air quotes because it is not.
They were calling them Christian Territ cards, Christian Ouija boards, where you can have a direct conversation with the Holy Spirit.
Friend, I'm going to let you know right now, I don't need a board and a piece of wood and some dice to talk to the Holy Spirit.
I have the Holy Spirit living inside of me.
I don't need cards to be flashing different symbols to let me know what the projection is for my life, friends.
The Lord has told me from the beginning of time that he knew me in my mother's womb.
Like Jeremiah 29, 11 says, and he had a plan and a purpose for my life.
I don't need cards to tell me that.
But, Mondo, like I said, there is a church.
It's not all of them.
There are so many fire Holy Spirit churches.
But the American church, if Paul was alive today, I guarantee you we'd be getting a letter because there are churches entertaining witchcraft.
Gossip is one of those witchcrafts.
Listen, one of the most dangerous people that you can have among you is what Bishop Ron Webb called a wound liquor.
A wound licker.
Yep.
Someone that is there, oh, poor you.
I'm so sorry.
They should have never done that to you.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
Pastor didn't come talk to you for 10 minutes after wound lickers.
And the problem is people that are infected never want to go through the procedure of healing.
You have to want to.
There's a process in most churches that are split.
Most churches that are divided because of theological outlooks or just physical process.
Those people are dangerous because they carry a poison that if they drink it, hoping that you die, they're deceived.
Amen.
And I want to tell you something.
We are living in an age right now where, Ricky, we have to deal as leaders, as pastors, we got to deal with sin directly because we are living in a generation that wants you, expects you to be authentic.
That's right.
You know, Mondo, if we look at Matthew 24, if we look at Luke 21, Mark 13, the book of Revelation, we see a common theme being talked about, and it's not being deceived.
The Bible says that in the end days, they're even going to attempt to deceive the very elect.
Now, that, you know, I would translate that.
You go back to the Greek Hebrew.
Those are the people who are higher in ministry.
Those are people who have maybe dedicated the portion of their life to ministry, who have been pastors for 30, 40, 50, 60 years, that they would even try to deceive the very elect if possible.
Friends, you know how you can ensure that you, as an elect member of Jesus Christ's family, because you have been brought in through the blood of Jesus Christ, you know how you can ensure that you're not deceived?
It's by having a relationship with the Holy Spirit, by living intimately with Jesus Christ, by only moving when he says to move, by stopping every time he says to stop.
If he tells you to go left, you go left.
If he tells you to pray for somebody in the middle of a supermarket, you do it.
This is how, believer, you watching at home, can ensure that you live a life where you are not deceived.
It is being so close and intimate with the Holy Spirit.
Damando, whenever the wolf and sheep clothing come into the congregation, you can spot it right away.
Whenever the wolf in sheep clothing gets on the pastoral staff, that happens, you can spot it right away.
Whenever it comes into your family, friends, you can spot it right away.
I'm telling you right now, believer, we need to deal aggressively with sin.
Mondo, we've been preaching this for about, you know, two years now, probably.
The dealing with sin must be aggressive, friends.
We must cover each other as believers, but that doesn't mean that we allow nonsense to go on in the church.
The bride of Christ is to be holy, to be righteous, to be pure, to be gentle, to have the fruits of the Spirit, not just the gifts of the spirit.
And friends, we can only do that through intimacy with Jesus Christ.
You can only do that through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
That doesn't mean you're going to walk a perfect life.
You'll fall, but get back up.
It says a righteous man falls, but he gets back up, friends.
Those who endure till the end, they will gain their lives.
It is important, believer, that you do not lay down and wallow.
You know, Mondo, you said one of the most dangerous people you can have in your congregation, in your life, in your family, in your friend circle is a wound licker.
It's because when a man falls down, what does a wound licker do?
He doesn't help them back up.
He doesn't extend a helping hand to say, get back up and keep running the race.
He says, oh, look at you.
You fell.
Look at all the people who aren't around you right now.
How come everybody hasn't stopped what they're doing to come to your aid?
How come X, Y, and Z, and they're like you said, they're licking your wounds as a dog would do.
And it's dangerous.
I want brothers around me that can say, hey, brother, you fell.
You were an idiot.
You made a mistake.
Dumb choice.
Get back up and keep running the race.
You know what love is?
Is when you go out to eat and there's sugar pies, cakes.
Dr. Don Colbert, I don't know if you've gone out to eat with them.
I have once.
But I want to tell you something.
Dr. Don Colbert doesn't believe in eating sugar because sugar is an enemy of your body.
And every time he sees a piece of cake, he says, I see the anenomy.
That's sugar diabetes.
How can I see a piece of cake as a friend?
And listen, that is just like sin.
How can I be a friend of sin?
There's no way that until Dr. Don Cobra said, until you see that piece of cake as an enemy, it will never change your life.
That's right.
And until we see sin as an enemy, you know, we talk about it so much where grace abounds much or where sin abounds much more, grace abounds.
If you continue on, friends, it says, What?
Therefore, should we continue to sin so that grace may abound?
Absolutely not.
It's where we as believers develop that true disdain, that true hatred for sin, because we realize that's our old nature, our old self, our old man.
And where you're a new creation, why would I want to go back to chains?
Why would I want to go back to bondage?
Why would I want to go back to a heavy yoke?
Why would I want to go back to depression and anxiety, suicidal thoughts?
If you're watching this at home, why would you want to go back to alcoholism, to womanizing?
Why would you want to go back to abandoning your family?
Why would you want to go back to the old man or woman?
Friends, I'll tell you right now, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
But I'll tell you now: the road to heaven is a dedication, friends.
You must be dedicated to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I'll let you know right now, the Bible says it very, very clearly.
The devil is going to make the road to hell look very beautiful.
He's going to make it, you know, give you the fame, the money, the riches, whatever it is that you think that you want, he'll attempt to try to give it to you.
But, friends, I'll let you know right now, it's all in vain.
The only thing that matters in this life is a relationship with Jesus Christ and walking out the calling, the purpose, the will, and the plans He has for you.
People ask me, why don't you eat sugar?
Why don't you?
I don't.
You know why?
Because sugar diabetes killed my 26-year-old cousin.
You know why I hate cake and I hate pies and I don't eat them.
Yeah, it's because it killed my grandmother.
It killed my aunt.
Sugar diabetes killed people.
And oh, just a little piece.
It's not going to hurt you.
Oh, just take a look, a little bite until you wake up and realize that little bite changed my whole life.
It changed my life.
It changed my family's life.
I know it doesn't mean much to you, but it's because you don't see sugar as an enemy.
I see sugar as an enemy.
My father-in-law fights for my, you know, what my father-in-law would do to have a Pancras?
He would do anything in the world.
But you know what?
People eat and eat and eat sugar and sugar.
You know why?
Because your Pancras is not on the line.
When your life is on the line, you change your perspective 100%.
There is a non-negotiation that takes place.
Oh, you guys are so brutal.
You guys are so black and white.
You guys, no, well, you know why?
When you have a shotgun in the back of your back, a pistol in your forehead, and a pistol in your chest, and ask you what happened to you the night before on why you didn't show up and be still be in the gangs.
Why Sugar Changed My Legacy 00:00:54
You know why?
Because my salvation was life and death.
Yeah, that's why I take it serious.
It's not being legalistic, it's realizing that when authentic salvation takes place, it changes your life forever.
That's right.
When the reality and the exposure of a revelation that a piece of cake changed my whole entire family's legacy, why am I going to sit down and have a cup of coffee and chat with a piece of cake that sugar changed my whole legacy of my life?
Yep.
In the same capacity, sin.
We think, oh, a little bit here, a little bit there.
You have to rid of all of it.
And I really think that that's a great analogy.
The Salvation Talk 00:03:48
We must rid of it, believer, because it is important that we as believers are an example to the world.
It's important that we as believers aren't pompous and arrogant and saying, well, the church doesn't make mistakes.
Friends, the church makes mistakes.
We're humans.
We have human nature.
Men fall.
But I'll let you know right now, we have a good God who gave us the ability to be righteous through his blood, the ability to be holy through his blood, the ability to be pure through his blood.
That's the only way we can do it, friends.
If you don't know Jesus Christ, there has never been a better day.
Right now, it's the best moment.
Call our number if you want to talk that salvation talk out, friends.
If you want to pray that prayer with us, it's 1-888-988-1588.
We have an operator who would love to talk with you, love to pray the salvation prayer with you, and love to say, Welcome to the family of Jesus Christ and help you find a good Bible-believing church in your area that preaches the full word of God.
We want to partner with you on this journey of faith.
It's important to us that you know you have eternal security in this world.
You know, Mondo, we have a conference coming up.
It's a very exciting conference.
I want to play the promo for it.
It's called our Ready Now Expo.
We're going to be doing it here at Morningside, April 10th, 11th, and 12th.
We're going to be asking some very difficult questions, but we're getting subject matter experts here to Morningside that can answer your difficult questions on things that are being talked about around the world.
Watch this.
Is the Antichrist alive right now?
He will soon lead the Intim World government and impose the Mark of the Beast numbering system.
Will artificial intelligence control our lives?
For space science, like nuclear science and all technology, has no conscience of its own.
Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on man.
Are aliens real and have they already visited our planet?
What the American people need to know is that the U.S. military and intelligence community are sitting on a huge amount of visual and other information, still photos, video photos, other sensor information, and they have for a very long time.
And it's not those fuzzy photos and videos that we've been given, those very clear, high-resolution.
The world is changing at a rapid pace.
And the biggest questions of our time demand answers.
Why the secrecy if it's really no big deal and there's nothing there?
Why hide it?

Oh, man, come on.
We need to get into that.
We're just talking, friends.
We have with us Pastor Dwayne Sheriff.
I want to welcome you to the broadcast.
Thank you for being here with us.
God bless you.
You know what?
There has a culture right now that is being guided in the wrong direction.
The enemy is seeking in every way, using everything that he has at his availability, every capacity to lead a generation astray.
But I believe, and this book right here is a really testimony, a proof of that, that there is divine guidance for this next generation.
Is that true?
Absolutely.
And the challenges the young people are facing, even with AI, in an attempt to replace the Holy Spirit, replace God guiding us.
Barriers to Hearing God 00:15:29
And so I wrote this book specifically to help the average believer develop an ear to hear and to know: am I hearing God or is this my imagination?
How does God speak?
Man, if there was anything I wish I'd have been taught when I was young, because I had a hunger for God that was amazing, but I was looking for an audible voice.
And I hear people talk about, well, God showed me this and God said this.
And I'm sitting there depressed, thinking I've never heard God.
And once I began to develop that ear, I even look back of how many times God spoke to me and I disregarded it.
I dismissed it.
I didn't realize it was his voice, the still small voice, and the language of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Every kingdom has a language.
That's right.
How old were you when you started to hear the voice of God?
Well, amazing, everyone has heard the voice of God at least once, and that's when they came to Jesus because it was God speaking to us.
It was God drawing us.
So at seven, I realized my sin and a sinner, and I needed saved.
And so I believe that was the Lord speaking to me then, even.
But actually, it was at nine years of age.
I felt the call of God on my life, and it was so strong, it wasn't audible.
And I can't explain it to this day.
But I knew that I knew God spoke to me.
And I actually packed a bag at nine years old and was leaving my house crying to go into the ministry.
And my parents didn't serve the Lord.
They thought I'd lost my mind.
And I understand that looking back now, I traumatized them.
But I was crying and I didn't want to leave home, but God spoke to me and I'm called.
And of course, I missed God, obviously, on the application at nine leaving home, but it was that real.
And again, my parents compromised instead of letting me leave.
They promised I could go to church anytime I wanted to, anywhere I wanted to.
And so I went to church by myself my whole youth and teenage years.
Every time a door was opened at any church, I was so hungry for God.
You know, in today's fast-paced world we live in, many people struggle to hear God's voice.
We have depression at an all-time high, anxiety, suicidal attempts, and then suicide, just the thought of people looming, being really oppressed.
And, you know, people are being attacked in their mind space right now.
How can the church address this?
Because I feel like this is something that needs to be addressed from the pulpit.
Oh, absolutely.
And the sad thing is, Pastor Rick or Ricky, I have.
You can call it, whatever you want.
It's not late for dinner.
Okay.
That's right.
Is that many churches don't even believe God speaks.
And so the beginning and first step in a good church and a good culture is we serve a God that's alive and we serve a God that is the master communicator.
God speaks and we simply have to be taught and learn to discern that still small voice or like I said earlier, his language.
Again, I was looking for this audible voice with these ears instead of the language of the Holy Spirit.
He speaks in visions.
He speaks in dreams.
Obviously, he does speak in prophecy.
Those are Acts chapter 2, verse 17.
But I discovered on my own the language of the Holy Spirit and that I had to learn to heed the lead, that God had been leading me and speaking, and I just wasn't hearing.
I wasn't discerning.
I wasn't heeding the lead.
And after I began to yield and mix faith with the promise, first of all, it starts, I'm rattling a little bit, but it starts with just believing he speaks.
It's as much a promise as any other promise in the Bible, but you have to mix faith with it, Hebrews 4, 2.
And so when I begin to mix faith that, Lord, I believe that you're speaking, that you love me, and that you have a plan, and you want me to know it more than I want to know it, speak on.
And I began to hear the language of the Holy Spirit, intuition, the pressing of the Holy Spirit that you see in Acts 16, 17 and 18.
These visions.
I had from 18 till about 22, I had lost my brother in a car accident.
And religious people, they meant well, but they did come to our house and basically said God took my brother.
Well, everything fell apart in our family at that point.
My mother turned on God.
And so I just felt like, well, if God killed my brother because of our sins, that's what they told us.
It was God's judgment, which is terrible.
But it's a misunderstanding of the old covenant law.
And they were living under law, so that's the God they knew.
I just felt like, well, I'm not perfect.
I'm doing my best to serve God and I'm failing.
You know, he's going to kill me next.
And so I wound up.
It took me a couple of years.
This sounds almost arrogant.
I don't mean it this way, but it took me a couple of years to backslide.
I mean, I didn't just throw everything away and fall off into sin, but sin is progressive.
And as I yielded and walked away from God, you know, I found myself in a bad place in college.
And that's when I met my wife, Sue, that witnessed to me.
And I actually had an open vision of the cross in her living room the day I met her.
And I saw the gospel.
I saw my old man.
This is difficult.
I need to hurry.
I know.
No, please.
But I actually saw me inside of Jesus on the cross.
And it was the sinful me, the old man that you mentioned earlier.
And I saw God's wrath come into the body of Jesus and punish Jesus.
And when he died, I died.
When he was buried, I was buried.
When he was raised, I was raised.
This is a vision, an open vision, just like right here.
And when he was raised from the dead, I was in him, but it was a different me in him after the resurrection than the me that died on the cross in him.
Wow.
And then he was raised.
I was raised.
I was seated.
He was seated.
And the only words I heard was, we will rule and reign together forever.
Come on.
And I mean, it shook my whole world up.
For three months, I couldn't talk.
I couldn't communicate.
I lost all my passion for tennis.
I was on a tennis scholarship.
But the point I'm trying to make is that was God speaking to me.
He showed me in a vision.
And God speaks to us in visions.
And that was an open vision.
You don't have many of those in a lifetime, but you do have flashes, even of the Holy Spirit, speaking to you in visions, in dreams, et cetera, et cetera.
And so that began my journey of knowing the God that speaks and learning to hear his voice.
That's incredible.
Thank you for not giving up.
Believe me.
Because you could have so many times.
Yeah.
And thank you because we need men like you.
Well, I appreciate it.
Because understanding what religious people talk really destroyed.
And a lot of people, Pastor, every, you know what I think about when you just made that statement?
I think about when all these natural disasters take place.
The first group that runs to social media to tell people that it was God.
Man, what a terrible timing.
Well, I spent the first probably easily 10 years of my ministry, and it literally took off of teaching grace versus law.
Yeah.
And God's wrath under law and the purpose for the law to bring us to Christ.
And that once Christ has come, the law has to be taken away.
And the law, and this is amazing.
I know we need to talk about the book, but the law actually was given to reveal our sin.
And yet everybody I knew thought the law reveals God.
And that's why they think he's a mean God and a mad God.
And He's going to strike you with lightning any minute or kill your kids and on and on it goes, make you poor, all that stuff.
And so my ministry literally did take off with just an understanding of Moses was given to reveal the law, to reveal sin, to show me I need a Savior, to show me I'm helpless and hopeless.
I can't live righteous without God and without salvation.
Then Jesus came to reveal God.
Moses reveals sin.
Jesus reveals God.
Jesus didn't say, if you've seen Moses, you've seen God.
He says, if you've seen me, you've seen God.
And God didn't kill anybody's kids.
Jesus didn't make anybody poor.
Jesus didn't pour wrath out on anybody.
Now, He did warn of the dangers of sin, which I appreciate your monologue.
The church has gotten away from sin is deadly.
And while God loves us in our sin, we should not live in sin, celebrate sin, exalt sin.
And this perversion of love, 1 Corinthians 13 says that love does not rejoice in iniquity.
That's right.
But rejoices in the truth.
And so there has to be a coming back of this balance of sin, the danger of it, but the love of God in it.
One of the things I'm asked the most is, you know, when or if you sin, does God quit fellowshipping with you?
And I find that fascinating, super fascinating, because I remember the first time I was asked, I was on a panel, and I thought, well, I don't know where you're going.
Because I was taught, if you do sin, God won't fellowship with you.
He won't talk to you.
And then, of course, I made the mistake of reading the Bible.
You thought that wasn't true.
Yeah.
And when Adam sinned, I thought, well, God isn't going to fellowship with him.
He's messed this up really bad.
First thing God says, Adam, where are you?
That's right.
He starts talking to him.
He's fellowshipping with him.
What do you mean you're hiding in a bush?
Who told you you were naked?
Yeah.
So he's talking to him.
Then he speaks of the consequences now of what you've done.
He's talking to them, showing them the consequences.
When Cain, just before he killed his brother, God was talking to him that sin lies at the door, but you could over.
So anyway, the whole concept of the religious concept, and I remember being on that panel, and I was asked, and I wasn't trying to be a smart aleck.
Sometimes it just happens.
I don't mean it to happen.
But I went, well, the only thing I'm confused about when I sinned is who is it talking to me about my sin?
Who's convicting me of my sin?
Who's chastening me over my sin?
Who just rebuked me?
Who reproves me?
Who is exhorting me to get out of it?
It's not the devil talking to me.
I hear God pretty clear if or when I sin.
Wow.
He doesn't forsake me.
Hebrews 13, 5.
He made a covenant in Hebrews 8 and Hebrews 10 to be merciful to me and to remember my sins no more.
So he doesn't hold it over me, but he's the one that says, this isn't good.
This is harmful to you.
It's harmful to your family.
It's harmful to the community of faith.
Come on out of that.
It's God speaking to me that draws me out of sin and unto him.
What a Damascus moment, right?
Because in the church, we think that we're so special that God only talks to Christians.
Yeah.
No, well, then what do you do with Paul?
Yeah.
Exactly.
Speaking to him.
You want to taste of the you may not be at church right now.
Maybe you stopped going to church.
Maybe you got disappointed at church.
Maybe you think God is only talking to the church.
No, God is talking to you.
You that stopped going to church.
You that maybe you're making fun of Christians and targeting Christians and trying to kill Christians, just like Paul was when he was riding in that Damascus road on his way and God interrupted him.
Amen.
What if God is interrupting you and you're listening to him?
You know you can hear.
That's right.
But yet you're choosing to ignore.
Could that be one of the barriers?
I mean, you write about six barriers.
Yes, I did.
Let's untie that because sometimes we hear God, but we want to ignore him.
Could that be one of the barriers?
It's one of the top.
Actually, I think I cover in the book the top five.
I may have mentioned six.
But let me just say to the audience and someone who's not serving God, God's divine design for you is not for sin.
You're not at home in sin.
You're uncomfortable in sin.
And I promise you, God's speaking to you and He's calling you home.
That is His voice drawing you in conviction of your sin.
The devil condemns us over sin.
What does that mean?
He pushes us down and away from God.
Conviction is God calling us to Him and up, and it makes a huge difference.
So let me just say too about God's voice and those five obstacles to the voice of God.
There are so many things that we grow up in.
And again, even the church saying God doesn't speak.
As a matter of fact, dead religion cannot survive if God speaks.
The only way dead religion can survive is if God doesn't thrive.
If you can hear the voice of God, no religion can manipulate you now.
And so dead religion, why did God say don't bow down to graven images?
I need to hurry here, but it was amazing to me as a teenager.
I thought this out.
Why would anybody bow down to a bird?
A dead bird or a crocodile.
And you know what?
God spoke to me when I really sought him out.
Why would anybody bow down?
You made that top one and two of the top big 10.
Come on.
The bird doesn't speak.
And most people want to serve a God that doesn't hold them accountable, doesn't give them instructions, doesn't lead them.
They want to live their own life their own way.
So it's convenient to worship a dead bird because the bird doesn't talk.
But if God talks, now one is held accountable.
Now one must obey eventually.
Now he's God, not you.
And so that's one of the barriers.
The way we're raised in the West is a huge barrier.
We're taught if it's outside of your five physical senses, it isn't real.
If you can't smell it and see it and hear it and taste it and feel it, the God of this culture is feelings.
I know the Bible says, but here's how I feel.
Welcome to idolatry and as you mentioned earlier, witchcraft.
And this generation is dominated by that five physical senses and human reason.
And there's a sixth sense, our spirit.
When we get born again of an incorruptible seed by the word of God, we are now one spirit with the Lord.
Test God's Leading 00:15:51
1 Corinthians 6:17 says, and now we have that intuition.
We are led by the Spirit who bears witness with our spirit that we're the children of God.
Well, he not only bears witness with our spirit that we're the children of God, he'll bear witness.
That's a good thing.
That's a bad thing.
That's the right way to go.
That's the wrong way to go.
Same witness that says you're a child of God is the internal witness that God leads us by.
You know, you're right.
God is leading, but we are not heeding.
Yes.
It says that on page 11 of this book, which is divine guidance, hearing and responding to the voice of God.
Can you explain that?
Yeah, this is what I discovered in my own relationship.
And remember, every relationship and the depth of it is determined by communication.
Every good relationship you have, good communication.
Every bad relationship you have, bad relation, bad communication, whether it's marriage, your children, your job, your co-workers together.
So what God showed me was that he had been speaking to me all these years, and he is the one who leads, but I have to heed the lead.
I have to yield.
I have to develop my ear to hear that internal ear, not these ears, the internal ear.
And you heed the lead in low-risk decisions.
Well, I wish I had time to really encourage the audience.
Please, please do.
Because there's low-risk decisions we make every day, and then there's high-risk decisions.
And I learned the voice of God to test it.
And that's a whole nother subject.
There's so many churches and so many great preachers that have said, hey, when you hear God, just obey.
You got to obey immediately.
And if you don't obey immediately, you're in some type of disobedience.
Man, that's just mean.
That is not true.
The Bible teaches to test the spirits, try the spirits, whether or not they're of God.
1 John chapter 4, verse 1.
1 Thessalonians chapter 5 says, prove all things, prove, test.
Even in the church, 1 Corinthians 14 says, if the prophets speak, let them speak only two by two, the most three, because you get confused.
Then let the others judge.
Judge what?
Judge what was said.
Is that God?
Did they miss it?
We don't judge the vessels, but we have to judge what's said.
If we're going to act on it, it better be God.
Listen, chapter 14, the title is Spiritual Authorities and Prophecy.
And you write really good, by the way, because you use scripture.
It's all backed up by the word.
The scripture is the easiest part to write.
Oh, man, I'm looking at it.
Every page is like, oh, wow, you got a scripture.
Maybe a little comment of what you think about it, but it's like maybe two or three scriptures in one page.
Get the book today.
Call the number on the screen, 1-888-988-1588.
Or if you want to visit the website and get a couple of things and shop, jimbakershow.com.
It's the place to shop and visit there.
Norai, is it?
Listen, I get confused.
Maybe you're like me.
Is it Nori or Nori?
Nora.
Go to Norai affiliate page and shop the book right there.
And while you're shopping there, I love every time I think about the affiliate pages, I think about Darren Parker because Darren, he's a survivalist, man.
He puts things together and said, man, you guys have the best shop because you got everything in one place.
So while you get the book, get a generator, get some food, get some things online.
And I tell you what, understanding the divine guidance on how to prepare as well, because you want to listen.
Listen, it's a Joseph moment, right?
Some people want to be a survivalist, and maybe it's not even the time for that.
Learn to hear from God on how to get prepared, when to be prepared, because in a crucial time, Joseph needed to develop to hear God's voice for a season of a famine.
But nobody wants to pay attention to that because we're too entertained with so much happening in the church.
Maybe it's a season that you need to hear from God on how to get prepared.
And what if I tell you that this book can hold a key to that?
That's right.
I don't know.
You got to read the book to find out.
Amen.
Divine guidance.
I want to say thank you for writing this because I think it is important.
We need to learn how to hear, but not just hear, also respond to the voice of God.
God still speaks today.
God is still wanting to commune with his people.
He still wants to have intimacy with those around him.
He wants to have a relationship.
And you've learned through your own walk, I've just been loving listening because you learned that legalism doesn't work.
That relationship with Jesus Christ is truly what's fulfilled your walk and fulfilled the thing that you were actually hungry for.
Isn't that right?
Absolutely.
And let me just go back to how to train the ear, please.
Because we are going to have some high-risk decisions coming soon.
If you live very long, period, you're going to have high-risk decisions.
And if you begin to test the low-risk decisions, like I guarantee you the Lord's prompting you.
You made a mention about praying for someone in a Walmart or a grocery store.
There's low-risk things that the Lord is trying to lead and you need to heed, like just encouraging somebody.
You don't have to be religious.
You don't have to be weird.
You don't have to say, thus saith the Lord God of Israel.
No, just say, hey, can I pray for you?
If you feel like God's leading you to pray for somebody, take the low risk and test it.
I can't tell how many people I've either just seen a flash of their face or their name just comes to my heart.
And it's a low risk decision to give them a call.
And I can't tell you how many times I've called somebody and they've wept on the phone.
I actually, and you have to be careful saying this on television, but I had a lady's name just come into my heart while I was driving.
That's a low-risk decision call.
And what do I have to lose?
I'm going to heed the lead.
I'm going to test it.
God, is this my imagination or is this you?
You can test it.
So I called her and she just began to weep on the phone and she said, Pastor Dwayne, I just got through praying, crying before the Lord and asking him to put me on your heart.
So I heard God clear.
I could tell story after story.
I know time constraints, you can't do that.
Hopefully some of them, most of them are in the book on different stories where once you stepped out in faith, you realized, okay, I missed it in that.
Where's the humility of, okay, I'm human.
I missed it there.
Father, what were you saying to me?
I want to hit it.
So you repent, but it's low risk.
After a while, you discern and you begin to develop an ear to hear.
Now, when you have to do the high-risk decisions, especially as a leader, that this could affect thousands of lives.
What I'm about to say, Lord, I need to know this is you and not my imagination.
You get better at that inner ear and developing it.
And then the high-risk decisions that affect more than just you.
A low-risk decision just affects me.
And one of the guidance witnesses that I share, I've got like nine different witnesses.
How do I know this is God leading me?
How do I know this is God speaking to me?
He wants to confirm his word.
There's a risk involved in obeying God, but we lower the risk in our relationship with the Lord.
He gives us witnesses.
Deuteronomy, Matthew 18, 1 Timothy talk about how that we shouldn't do certain things without one or excuse me, two or three witnesses.
We need witnesses, confirmation, especially in high-risk decisions.
That's right.
And the scriptures lay them out.
And one of them, my favorite, of course, the word of God is a witness.
The Holy Spirit isn't going to tell you to do something the word told you not to do.
So that's a witness, a confirmation, but God's love.
Romans 5, 5 says, the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost.
Well, if the Holy Ghost is leading me, he won't violate love, God's love.
Romans 13, 10 says, love works no ill toward its neighbor.
So if I think God's speaking to me, then I can confirm it by the love of God in my heart.
Does this work ill?
Like if I think God told me to say something to you and it's mean and it would hurt you, I'm not talking about correction that hurts the flesh, but I'm talking about mean.
Then that's not God.
And again, one of the hindrances to people hearing the voice of God is the media.
Anytime anybody hears God, they're a kook.
Anybody in the movie that hears God is a kook.
And the headline will be, mother hears God and drowns children.
Yeah.
To discredit the voice of God.
The devil is a master at that.
So you do learn these checkpoints, these confirmations, like, does this work ill to my neighbor?
Yeah.
Then, okay, God, I'm not sure I heard you clear.
Wow.
I'm not going to hurt anybody.
I'm not going to work ill.
You will not violate love.
Another protocol is the kingdom of God.
I mentioned the language of the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 14, 17, the kingdom of God is not in meat or drink, but in righteousness, peace, and joy in what?
The Holy Ghost.
So if it's the Holy Ghost leading me, these three will line up.
If it's the Holy Ghost speaking to me, he won't violate what I call kingdom protocol.
In other words, Isaiah 45 says, God says, I didn't speak in secret.
I didn't tell you to seek me in vain, O Jacob.
He says, I am the Lord God.
I speak righteousness and say what is right.
So if the Holy Spirit's speaking to me, it'll be righteous.
It'll be holy.
It won't lead to sin.
It's not the Holy Spirit speaking to me.
It's love that I have for my neighbor's wife there.
Nope, that's not the Holy Ghost talking to you.
That's your flesh and that's lust.
But how do you judge?
By the love of God and by righteousness.
That's good.
He leads us in the path, favorite psalm of everybody, Psalms 23, in the paths of righteousness.
So when I hear a voice, even something so loud it sounds like a voice, if it violates God's nature, his righteousness, you better wait on it.
That's right.
Test it.
You better wait on it.
And then peace.
You know what's amazing?
You're making me think of this story.
This businessman was needing a million dollars in order to get out of debt.
And he prayed.
He said, God, where am I going to get a million dollars?
I don't have the money.
I don't have the resources.
I wasn't born into money.
And he said that he heard clear as a bell ringing in his ear.
And God spoke to him and says, create the formula that I've given you for a tape that would change people's life and name it frog tape.
You ever heard of frog tape?
I've seen that the story.
A man, a Christian man, had a revelation for a formula to create a tape that one day will change the world.
And God gave him the formula and he heard God's voice.
The problem was that he couldn't believe that this would be.
And sometimes when God speaks to you, we make the mistake of doubting God.
That's why testing it is so right on, like you mentioned, Pastor, the guidance to understand.
And this man was able to not only pay his debt, but was able to retire and give money away to missionaries all over the world through this invention.
That's awesome.
What I'm trying to tell you is this.
What if God is speaking to you about a formulation that you have a home that can change the world and fund missions forever?
And you're holding back on God.
You know why people get mad at Christian television?
Because we raise money all the time.
But if God is giving you a solution on how we stop raising money so we can preach the gospel, hear from God, share it with us, and we'll stop raising the money and we keep preaching the gospel.
Amen?
I love that deal.
I like that deal.
I like that.
But in the meantime, come on, but in the meantime, we got to raise the money.
I pray that what Pastor spoke out right now will be a turn of events for you.
So you can hear from God because it can change your economics right now for your life.
It can change healing in your life.
It can change the direction you want to go in your life right now.
Maybe you're thinking about walking away from your marriage and you're hearing guys at work, oh, yeah, just leave her.
She's no good to you.
There's another fish out there for you.
No, God wants you to stay in your marriage, work in your marriage, and walk with your marriage.
Get right with God.
Sometimes hearing from God is not that easy, Pastor.
No, that's why we need these confirmations.
We need to be still.
We need our private time, get away time, wilderness time with the Lord to be able to hear.
You know, that second one has meant so much to me, peace, that there's peace with God.
We all have that through the blood.
But then there's the peace of God.
And Colossians 3.15 says, let the peace of God rule your hearts.
That word rule is umpire.
And when you're making decisions, low risk or high risk, there's an umpire on the inside of you called peace.
And there's times that everything in the natural didn't look right, but I had peace.
The umpire said, safe.
Then there were times I heard the umpire said, out.
Wait.
It's literally saved my life before.
I believe my children, where we lost peace, that peace is his voice.
See, people say, well, I have never heard God.
Well, have you ever had peace over a decision?
That was God speaking to you.
Have you ever lost your peace?
That's God speaking to you.
It's the voice of God.
It's the language of the Holy Spirit.
And then the third one there was joy.
There's a joy.
When you obey God, there's a supernatural joy.
Hearing God's Voice 00:07:47
And when you disobey God, there's a grieving.
Ephesians chapter 4 says, grieve not the Holy Spirit.
So that's the voice of God sometimes.
When you feel in your gut, your spirit, the center of your being, the Holy Spirit grieved, that's God speaking to you.
Don't go forward.
Don't say that again like that.
Repent.
So the voice of God can be in the grieving of the Holy Spirit.
And the voice of God is in the joy of the Lord, the joy.
When we obey God, he gets happy.
And you can feel it.
I can feel it.
I can feel like if I messed up here on this stage, you wouldn't have to tell me.
I'd feel it.
I'm feeling right there, and I'd go squirming, and I'd figure out, okay, how do I fix it?
No, there's something that's worse than the stare of a wife that's on the inside.
It's like, uh-oh, I messed up.
But then when I hit it, when I say the right thing the right way, You can feel the joy of the Lord and it's your strength.
Amen.
And that's his voice.
I wish I could tell stories.
I know we don't have time.
I love this.
That's your difference.
Encourage people to order this.
This is so good.
Our phone number is on the screen right there.
You can go to our affiliate site, friends, get this book.
This is incredible.
Divine guidance by Pastor Dwayne Sheriff.
Hearing and responding to the voice of God.
You can scan that QR code on the screen as well.
I don't know if you know this.
We talked briefly.
I think it was about seven or eight years ago.
I listened to you preach in Dallas, Texas, and you brought a ton of DVDs with you.
I don't know if you remember that.
And you said, hey, I'm not charging a penny for any of those DVDs.
Go out there and get whatever it is that you need.
So obviously everyone flooded the table.
I think they pretty much took everything you had.
I don't know how you got home, brother.
Yeah, they cleared you out.
They took the prayers off of my car.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
But I had this six DV or CD set.
It's a six CD set.
You wrote on taking offense.
Oh, yeah.
And it's six CDs, and you go outline it so.
Have a look on that.
Yep, erasing offense, correct?
Erasing offense.
And you went through that six CD set so eloquently.
I want to say thank you for doing that.
It really changed just the way, even my perspective.
I mean, you even outlined the life of Paul and how he could have taken offense so many times throughout his ministerial career.
If you call it that, his life is walk with Christ.
How important is it that we as believers can tackle that issue of offense to be able to hear the divine guidance?
Well, I can tell you a lot of people, and I love you.
I'm not trying to hurt your feelings.
I'm certainly not condemning you, but a lot of people don't understand.
God is still speaking when we take offense and God is still communing on the inside of our spirit.
But when you get in unforgiveness and you take an offense, it morphs into bitterness and the hardening of the heart.
And the key to hearing God, period, is a soft heart, a pliable heart.
This is why we repent.
I don't repent of any sin so I can go to heaven.
I'm already seated in heaven.
God loves me unconditionally, but when I sin, it hardens the heart.
And so what happens is it deafens the ear.
So many people you're watching right now and you're struggling hearing God, you need to make sure you have no unforgiveness in your heart because that yields you over to Satan's attacks and it hardens the heart.
God is still speaking, but you're not hearing.
And that root of bitterness, it says in Hebrews there, that many, not a few, not some, but many are defiled by a root of bitterness.
That word defiled, again, it's not that you're going to hell.
It's not that God rejects you or forsakes you.
It defiles you in your inner ear and in your seeing.
And you just, it's hard to see God.
It's hard to hear God.
And so that repentance is for your sake.
You know, why do we forgive people?
For Christ's sake and for our sake.
Because if we hang on to that, it's like plugging our inner ear.
And that's why I taught that.
That I think is one of the best series God ever gave me.
I teach it at Karis Bible School now.
I tell you, I have people crying through that service.
I have people coming up, how it changes their lives, because we don't realize we swim in a world that's offended.
And it's deafening the voice of God.
It's not, again, that God isn't speaking.
It's we're not heeding the leading because our hearts are hard.
Wow.
I want to listen to it.
I promise you, it'll be worth your time.
Actually, I ended up, I think I took four DVD sets that day, bro.
I took the four tires off your car, bro.
I've taken them that day.
And I've listened to them all, but that one made such an impact.
I've listened to this.
Yeah, we've given away now over 100 million free messages.
I can't believe that, yeah.
100 million messages.
And I know they're impacting lives.
They impacted mine.
You know, as a just a very young man, I thought, man, this is incredible because you broke it down in such an eloquent way that was understandable, where it wasn't lofty, high.
And, you know, I wasn't a brand new Christian hearing the Greek and Hebrew and not understanding quite what they were saying.
You broke it down so I could fully understand what it is that God had for me.
But y'all let you listen to it.
Mona, you need to listen to that or what?
Yes.
You can go to the website.
You're offended and you're not sharing it with me.
You said that.
Someone could go to your, tell them about yourself.
Yeah, you can go to the website and get the videos for free.
Really?
The audios for free.
PastorDwane.com.
Pastor Dwayne.com.
PastorDwane.com.
You don't have to share.
I'll go to the bottom.
And just type in offense and they'll pop up.
That's incredible.
My brother Ricky offended me.
Amen.
I'll tell you what you're talking about.
And by the way, that's the highest personal compliment you could give me.
I live to keep it simple, to make it applicable in a spiritual, not legalistic, but by God's grace.
And I can remember again, every time I've taught it, people crying when I even tell them what unforgiveness is.
And when I tell them what forgiveness is.
It's like, well, what is forgiveness?
Because I was taught, this is really mean, but I was taught you haven't forgiven until you forget.
And that's the cruelest thing that can be said.
Someone who was molested as a child can still forgive, but they may never forget.
And there's some things we're not supposed to forget.
Like if an uncle molests you and he hadn't repented, I recommend you not forget that and not let your kids around your uncle.
That's right.
So a lot of confusion over what is forgiveness?
How do you do it?
And once you see how easy it is to forgive, especially it's not your emotions.
That's one of the ones you get people crying literally over is your emotions can be hurt and you can forgive and still hurt in your emotions.
And it's forgiving that releases God now to heal your emotions.
It's unforgiveness that fuels your hurt for the rest of your life.
Wow.
And so even separating your feelings from forgiveness is huge in people's lives.
Just huge.
Amen.
Amen.
