Stress Is Poison To The Brain

|
| Dr. Cooper, you recently you had an article that you wrote called We Can Decrease the Risk of Cognitive Decline with One Step. | |
| How does the health of a person's brain relate to their body? | |
| Well, again, it's stress. | |
| Stress is probably one of the greatest things that destroys the brain. | |
| And that's where we have to learn to get into God's rhythm. | |
| And we have to learn to cast all our cares. | |
| Some people are casting one or two cares, but they carry the majority on their cares on their shoulders. | |
| Realize stress is poison to the brain. | |
| What it does to the brain, it literally causes the hippocampus, which is the main short-term memory center that's in the, right here in the temporal area of the brain, right above the ear. | |
| That's the first place Alzheimer's affects the brain, is in the hippocampus. | |
| Now, the hippocampus literally shuttles short-term memories into long-term storage. | |
| And what cortisol or stress does is it causes the neurons in the hippocampus not to be able to take up enough sugar. | |
| And the brain runs on sugar or glucose. | |
| And so literally the brain cells start to be starved of sugar and they start to shrivel up and die. | |
| So that's what stresses do. | |
| That's why we've got to learn to cast all of our cares, not some of our cares, onto the Lord because he cares for us and then enter into his rest. | |
| And again, what's so important, when we sleep, our brain recharges, but it needs to be well-oxygenated sleep. | |
| So get your sleep. | |
| If you're waking up tired, please get a sleep study. | |
| There's a chance you have sleep or apnea. | |
| And if you do, your brain's not getting the most important news about oxygen. | |
| We found that out about them. | |
| So do the SNAP diagnostic sleep study and get it treated. | |
| That's what we do. | |
| Because again, Jesus said, come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I'll give you rest, not stress. | |
| Amen. | |
| And he says, take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. | |
| And, you know, the number one stressor is developing a care for this world. | |
| Yeah. | |
| He said, you know, that that's what will choke the very word of God in you is when you become overwhelmed with the cares of this world. | |
| Those are thorns that come in and they will choke the word. | |
| So you've got to be careful and guard your heart. | |
