Divine Warrior Messiah 00:02:39
Joel, in Isaiah 63, there is a graphic description of Jesus as divine warrior in Sinai to Zion.
You write about his clothes said to be stained as from a wine press.
Tell us about that.
So a lot of Christians are actually incredibly uncomfortable with this because we sort of picture Jesus as, I'm just going to say this long-haired Caucasian hippie.
Yeah.
You know, he's kind of this peaceful guy with lambs and he's glowing.
And I don't want to, you know, undermine he is the gentle shepherd that leaves us beside still waters, etc.
Yes.
But the overwhelming way the Messiah is described throughout the prophets, from the beginning of the Bible to the end, is as the divine warrior.
He is Yahweh God Almighty who comes back in the flesh in the form of the Son of Man, one like a son of man, that comes back to execute vengeance against his enemies and to save his people.
And you have numerous passages that describe it in great detail, this royal procession when the divine warrior comes back in human form, you know, in the flesh and saves his people.
And Isaiah 63 is one.
So Isaiah is in Jerusalem and he's looking south and he says, who is this marching forward in the greatness of his strength?
And the Lord responds.
He says, it is I speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.
He goes, hold on.
Why are your garments stained crimson like someone who's been stomping grapes all day?
And he says, from the nations, among the Gentiles, no one was with me.
In other words, it's not Jesus and the IDF.
It's not Jesus and the American military.
He goes, no, it was me and in my vengeance alone.
I carry these things out.
And he says, I tread them down in my wrath.
He's talking about his enemies.
He said, and their lifeblood spattered my garments.
Wow.
So it's not grapes that he's stomping.
He's stomping his enemies.
And you go, that's awfully graphic.
I've never, Jesus, the bridegroom, comes back soaked in the blood of the enemies of his bride.
That's, you know, our God is a jealous God.
By the way, we talked in last show about the fact that when God came down on Mount Sinai, it was a marriage covenant that he made with Israel.
When Jesus, Yeshua, when he says, I'm the bridegroom, when he calls himself the bridegroom, he's making a very direct statement.
I am the God of Sinai.
I am the God of thunder and storm clouds that came down.
So he's claiming to be God Almighty, absolutely.
