Fear Of God 00:04:26
America is gripped in fear.
The world is gripped in fear.
How did you decide to write this book on fear?
Well, I didn't want to write a book on fear.
For years, I've been wanting to write a book on the fear of God because I think that has left our nation.
It has left the church.
If you ask me, in my opinion, there's no fear of God in the nation.
There's no fear of God in the church.
And that was my original motive.
And then I came across that verse in Proverbs.
The fear of man is a snare.
And I thought, oh, I'll write a book on the fear of God versus the fear of man.
And then one day I was watching that Western movie, The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.
I thought, well, that's a good title for the book.
And so I write on the fear of God, that's the good fear.
The bad fear, fear of man, but then the worst of all, demonic fear, satanic fear.
So the book now deals with fear of God, fear of man, and the danger of demonic fear.
And the book takes equal time pretty much with all three of these.
How did you go about studying fear from a biblical perspective?
Well, the thing is, the Bible is full of talk about fear of God.
And many people think, well, you know, I believe in the God of the New Testament, but not the God of the Old Testament.
And it's the Old Testament God that says we should fear God.
Two things are forgotten.
The first is, on the day of Pentecost, it is said in the book of Acts, fear came upon every soul.
But even more interesting, in the book of Revelation, chapter 4, when you have the everlasting gospel presented, the opening words of the everlasting gospel, fear God.
That's the first thing.
And so we must never forget that the God of the Bible is a God to be feared.
And I can say a lot about that.
It's sad that the fear of God has departed.
The nation of America was born in the fear of God.
Stop me at any time you like, but I think of an event July the 8th, 1741.
Jonathan Edwards preached a sermon in Enfield, Connecticut, taking his textual verse in Deuteronomy.
Your feet will slide in due time.
And he said in his opening remarks, it is by the very mercy of God, you are not in hell right now.
And by the time he finished, people were holding on to church pews to keep from sliding into hell.
People were seen outside the church building holding onto tree trunks to keep from sliding into hell.
Do you know what?
Word of that sermon went all over New England in days.
It reached across the Atlantic in weeks.
And to this day, it is the sermon that people think of first when they think of the New England Awakening.
And if one had time, I could show Jim, Laurie, that sermon, not only was it the central fact of the Great Awakening, but it led to the Declaration of Independence and the reason for the Constitution of the United States.
Fear of God is all over it.
That's why you have the Ten Commandments written on the Supreme Court.
And America was born in this, but we've forgotten it.
It is true.
Has America turned her backs on God so much that we don't even fear God anymore?
I'm afraid so, Jim.
Do you know the difference between Israel and God?
I'm sorry, Israel and America?
God chose Israel.
America chose God.
But now, in the last generation, we've just said, God, we don't want you anymore.
God's Judgment on America 00:00:19
And God has responded, okay.
And look what has happened.
I've read another book that deals with COVID.
I believe that America is under judgment.
I think God is angry with us.
