Godly Sorrow Today
00:05:53
|
|
| How can we show the fruits of repentance that Paul wrote about? | |
| Paul talked about a godly sorrow. | |
| You know, the Ten Commandments were given not for us to keep, but for us to realize our need of God, that we cannot keep things, we can't keep these laws in ourselves. | |
| There is nothing good in us. | |
| So God presents the problem, but then he gives the solution. | |
| And to repent today is easy. | |
| You recognize that you are away from God. | |
| And, you know, if you miss the mark a little bit, it doesn't matter. | |
| The sinner on the street, the drug addict, needs the Lord just as much as the one sitting in church that doesn't open his Bible, that doesn't even, when you're in love with someone, you want to get to know them. | |
| If you say, I want to know you, Lord, you're going to spend time with him. | |
| He's going to reveal things. | |
| And when he does, you're going to say, oh, cleanse me, God, forgive me. | |
| So the problem or the sickness is diagnosed, first of all, and that sin, that's being away from God, that's being lukewarm, is having areas in your life where you've not surrendered to Christ. | |
| I'll tell you what, I recently had a dream. | |
| As a matter of fact, I want to tell you all it was this evening. | |
| I was awake most of the evening and I wrestled. | |
| I was wrestling. | |
| I got a physical attack in my physical body. | |
| But then, when I was able to fall asleep, I had a dream. | |
| And in the dream, it was so, it was sexual promiscuity in the church that God is going to deal with. | |
| And so if that's you today, he's going to diagnose the sickness, but he has a solution. | |
| And that is repenting with godly sorrow, as Paul said in that passage. | |
| And that is, you know, David said, against thee and thee only have I sinned. | |
| It's got to be such, got to come from deep inside of you where, you know what, God, I am so sorry that I offended you. | |
| I am so sorry that I hurt you, that I am away from you, God. | |
| Forget about anybody else. | |
| Forget about what anybody thinks. | |
| Against thee and thee only, we sin against him. | |
| And so when we come to him, we have this sorrow and it grips us and it hurts us because he wants to be close to us and he longs to love us. | |
| And so repentance is recognizing that I have a sickness. | |
| I have a problem. | |
| There is an area that I have not been faithful. | |
| I have baxled in. | |
| I haven't read the Bible. | |
| I haven't been seeking God. | |
| I'm holding a part of my heart for something else or someone else. | |
| I've been distracted. | |
| I've been playing games with God. | |
| I say one thing and do another. | |
| And that today is what God wants us to know: that repentance is the diagnosis. | |
| It is the light coming on in our hearts and showing us what we need. | |
| And then we are quick. | |
| And, you know, Jim, you mentioned David. | |
| David not only committed adultery, but remember he had Uzziah killed. | |
| He lied. | |
| So there's murder. | |
| There's adultery. | |
| There's lying. | |
| All of that David did. | |
| And still God said, he's a man after my own heart. | |
| Do you know what the Lord spoke to me? | |
| And I love it. | |
| I heard someone else say it too. | |
| He said, the reason why I called David a man after my own heart is because he never committed that sin again. | |
| And I'm here to tell you today that if you are serious with God, he will be serious with you. | |
| And he will be faithful to take that habit, to take that weakness and break the bondage of it and release you and set you free. | |
| And you'll want to know him, you'll want to spend time with him. | |
| You will not want to do what he delivers you from. | |
| It's such a one, we serve such a wonderful God, and he's here today, and he's extending his hand, saying that my arm is not too short that it cannot save. | |
| My ear is not deaf that I cannot hear. | |
| He hears you today, he sees where you are sitting. | |
| And if you will just be sincere, you know, we leave people in a sinner's prayer. | |
| And I'll tell you, that's another, maybe that's another program, but you just don't flippantly say, Oh, God, come into my heart. | |
| And then the rest of your sins, the rest of your life, you're okay. | |
| No, you got to die to that thing. | |
| You got to hate that thing. | |
| You got to love God more than you love that thing you're holding on to. | |
| So today, that's the call, and that's the comfort, and that's the protection. | |
| Yes, these things are coming. | |
| But if you are going to be in the middle of these things and experience them, say you're living in California and you love the Lord. | |
| You know what? | |
| God protected the children of Israel when the plagues hit Egypt. | |
| God took Noah in an ark and he rose above the judgment. | |
| God's going to cause you to rise above that. | |
| You're going to be okay. | |
| The thing that God cannot do is go against your free will and make you choose Him. | |
| And so He's offering this extension. | |
| And the good news is: there's still time to repent. | |
|
Repent Daily

|
|
| And He cleanses us from all, covers our with His blood and makes us whiter than snow. | |
| So God loves you and keep short accounts with God. | |
| Repent every day if you have to. | |
| But just every day makes sure things are right with you and God. | |
| Right. | |
| That's what God wants: to have that life of repentance and forgiveness. | |
| And He'll forgive us and He'll cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | |
