How God Uses Obedience 00:10:03
Paula, you're helping people a little better perhaps understand the simplicity of this president, this man.
He's not so complicated, yet he is.
You know what I mean?
He's so humble and simple, and people misuse him because he just speaks out like you and I would, you know, the people that weren't trained to be careful, you know.
He just talks.
And what's interesting to me is this.
So I guess the next question was, how did I meet?
I wanted to know.
Let's go there.
I wanted to ask, I've been wanting to ask the question yesterday even.
But what happened to you to meet Donald Trump?
Well, it's interesting because people seem to get amnesia and forget because I was preaching about this way before he had ever even thought about presidency.
But it really, I'm going to give a little bit of the detailed version to show you how sovereign God is.
So at this time I was on television and we were buying up everything you could imagine.
You understand.
You've been here.
I mean, I didn't start, really Christian television had kind of blackballed me.
You know, I wasn't right.
I was a Wallman.
I, you know, would wear jeans sometimes, God forbid.
You know, I would, all this stuff that I broke the rules because I didn't know the rules.
I just fell in love with Jesus.
And so I started on secular television and I was buying Fox and ABC and NBC and CBS and anything that, you know, ABCDE, F-G-H-I-J, if I could get on, I would buy it.
And then all of a sudden the Christian network started opening and I was getting on everything.
And by this time, we were on about 47 networks.
And my executive director comes to me and says, there's this station, and it reaches just a few.
It was a few hundred thousand.
It was what we call a low power station.
And it was in a particular part of like West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, etc.
And he goes, do you want to go on?
And I went, I looked at that.
I said, nah, kind of like, excuse me, but that was like low-lying fruit.
I don't mean that in any bad way.
But I'm thinking, we are saturating the market.
I'm just talking business right now.
And I'm like, we're saturating the market here.
Why would I spend a few hundred dollars to go on an area that we're spending this kind of money to be there?
And he starts to walk out and I says, stop, because God said, sign it.
So it starts with that obedience.
God says, sign it.
So in the natural, I'm going, this doesn't even make sense.
I love it.
I didn't know this part of the story.
I'm telling you, there's like a lot of people who are in the world.
But this is why some of the ladies, especially, men too, need this book.
I don't know why I'm really feeling this thing with women today.
They need this because that obedience.
Yes, sir.
That's my whole life.
Yes, sir.
And that's what I've been saying.
Yes, sir, to God.
And if you, if, if you, if you, people say, why does God use you, Jim?
You're so fumbly, bumbly, and old.
God uses me because I say yes all the time.
Yeah.
That's all.
That's all.
And that's all.
That's all.
But that was that obedient.
And the minute you hear it.
Yes.
Oh, I love it.
I didn't know that was.
Go ahead now.
So you signed on.
What station was it?
Where was it?
Where was it located?
It was a first station that was in Fort Lauderdale.
But here was in Miami, kind of West Palm Beach area.
But here's what I didn't know.
It was the only Christian station that was going into Mar-Largo.
Okay, now, here's a story that most people don't know.
Okay.
That's the Hallelujah Chorus thing.
Now, here's what's so crazy.
I would find this out later.
But I didn't know this.
I didn't know that he was raised in a very strong Christian home.
I didn't know that he had a very praying mother, a strong Christian mother.
And what I didn't know is that he had watched Christian television all the time and loves you.
Watched you preach from way back in the day.
watch so many people preach.
I could go on love Bill Gaither, loves Southern Gospel.
I mean, I mean, just Robert, all this.
So he has been watching, so he would always watch Christian television.
And little did I know, this is the only station that would go right into Mar-a-Largo.
So I get this call.
This is early 2000s or so.
I get this call, and they said, Donald Trump's on the line, my office.
Now, we like to have fun.
We're Christians, but we also, I know all of you are always serious and, you know, angels are falling down.
But we have fun.
If you're going to work for the Lord, it's fun working for God.
And they said, it's fun to live for God.
And so they said, Donald Trump's, and at the time, all I knew about Donald Trump, excuse me, because I should say President Trump, but at the time he was Donald Trump.
And all I know about him is a billionaire.
You know, he's running the art of the deal type of thing.
And I go, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.
And they go, no, Pastor Paul, Donald Trump's on the line.
I'm like, yeah, right.
They go, no, for real.
And then she gets that look in her eyes like, I'm not messing around.
And it's like five minutes that he's standing on the line or ten minutes.
And I pick up the phone and he goes, you're fantastic.
He goes, you have the it factor.
Now, understand some things.
Not all of us know Christianese.
What he was saying is you have the anointing.
He was just saying you got anointing and a nice it.
That's what it is.
It's the Holy Ghost.
It is.
It's the Holy Ghost.
And but here's what impressed me.
He begins to repeat back to me verbatim a series of sermons I'd done on the value of vision.
And I mean, I'm thinking to myself, here I am pastoring thousands of people.
I bet people couldn't even tell me three lines from my last sermon this past week.
And I'm thinking, this man is repeating, not like just like, okay, here's point number one, point number two, point number three, verbatim.
He's going and dissecting the message.
And I'm like, now it's got my attention.
I'm like, all right, okay.
And so he starts talking to me and he says, I was confirmed in the Presbyterian church and I grew up going to Norman Vincent Pills.
And he starts giving me sermons.
And he says, are you ever in New York?
I said, well, interesting, I am.
Because at the time, George Steinbrenner had brought me up to do a Bible study for the New York Yankees.
Of course, that's when they were winning.
Amen.
They're winning again.
Okay.
And so I'd started doing a study.
And New York was a very large market.
And so I said, yes, sir, I am.
So I go in.
And now, here's what's so imperative.
We, every day in our life, we encounter people every day in the grocery store at the bank through some of us encounter tens, some of us encounter millions every single day.
And sometimes those encounters, you know, those intersections become encounters.
Sometimes those become connections.
And sometimes those connections become covenant.
And when you're sensitive to the Holy Spirit, you hear his voice.
And when the phone is ringing, you know how to pick up.
So when I go in, I said, yes, sir.
So I meet with him and meet some of his family members, some of his staff.
And about the second or the third time, I don't tell this often.
I'm telling you, there is something in this seat that just makes you tell everything.
I go back and I said to him, I walked in, and God said to me, now this is never to minimize his faith because he grew up just like John did.
John grew up with a strong Christian father and a strong, he grew up wanting to be a priest and a pastor.
So when he attributes to me coming into his life, kind of pushing him into the fullness of his purpose, that's not to say that he didn't have a foundation with many experiences in Christ.
So our president had this strong foundation.
But when I came in, God spoke to me and said, show him who I am.
And the Lord just simply said, now I'm thinking at the time that I'm just on assignment to pray for this man who at the time is a billionaire, a great businessman.
And I'm thinking, this is my assignment.
Never am I thinking this is going to be the president.
That's nowhere on the radar.
This is 16, almost 17 years ago.
And so I walk in and I kind of laugh about this now.
I said, and I've said this publicly because I went, I don't want your money.
I have enough of my own.
I said, I don't want your fame.
I have enough of my own.
I said, I want your soul.
And I walked out.
And I think he thought I was just crazy enough.
Like, who is this crazy woman?
And we laugh about that today.
You know, not many people say that publicly.
That's why people love you that know you.
That's you, girl.
That's you.
That is the Holy Ghost you.
It was just saying, like, what it was basically saying in a break-it-down language is, you know, I felt like God was saying, not that other people have not and not that other people did, but during those years, not just with him, but many people on his staff, many people within his family, God allowed me to build relationship.
So I had a church in New York, and New York was one of my strongest bases.
And so I was up there quite often.
I would end up, one day I said, okay, and there were many tests that would be passed.
And when I say that, those tests come down that when you say that, God's going to put you through the test.
And so those tests would come where would it be about money?
No.
To this day, I've never received a dime from him.
And he is one of the most generous people.
But I can tell you at the time, people say, oh, I never, I can't tell you how many people before, especially as president, would say, will you introduce me to him?
How many people would ask for money?
How many people wanted money?
But I'm just being honest.
I don't think one person ever came to me.
And I know many big ministries that asked for money from him.
I know many small ministries that asked for money from him.
