Lukewarm Water Explained
00:02:16
|
|
| I just wanted Donna to do one last thing for me, if for nobody else, but I think you're all going to love this. | |
| When you talk, you were here last time and you talked about being lukewarm. | |
| You know, in the Bible, we all know what Jesus says about being lukewarm, that he doesn't want us to be lukewarm because he would spew us out of his mouth. | |
| That, you know, I think we sometimes kind of just skip over that. | |
| And then you come along and really explain it to us. | |
| And if you could just take a minute and explain. | |
| Yeah, the geographical locality or location of the Laodicea was located between a hot spring site and a fresh cold water site. | |
| And so their water was delivered on an aqueduct line from one location to the other. | |
| So they were very familiar with getting lukewarm water. | |
| They would have understood when Jesus was referring to lukewarm water. | |
| They would have known exactly what that meant. | |
| Cold water is refreshing to the body. | |
| It is a nice cold drink, whatever. | |
| Hot water can be used to purify things or bathe the body. | |
| There's all these uses for either extreme temperature, but there is no use for lukewarm water. | |
| Not only that, it is very gross to taste. | |
| It's something that when you put it in your mouth, you immediately want to spit it out. | |
| But the number one thing that the Laodicians would have been on a daily basis understanding based on the fact that they had to deal with this every day is the fact that it is a bacterial breeding ground. | |
| So when you have, when Jesus said, here's the thing that you need to keep in mind. | |
| Jesus said, I wilt thou be hot or cold. | |
| Well, if this is a matter of passion or zeal or how in love with God you are versus how marginally you consider him, then why would God ever wilt that thou would be cold? | |
| So it kind of cancels itself out because Jesus, there's a million other scriptures that make it that he's always drawing us in. | |
| He would never wilt that we would consider him marginal or write him off. | |
|
Lukewarm Church Spewed Out
00:01:54
|
|
| It is not a matter of passion and zeal. | |
| So when he said that I either wilt thou be hot or cold, but if you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth. | |
| He was telling them that because you are the apathetic, lazy, lackadaisical church that is not committed to the actual gospel as I have come to establish it, you are a bacterial breeding ground. | |
| You're spreading bacteria spiritually throughout the regions, and I will spew you out of my mouth. | |
| But here is where this ultimately goes, and this is what I was not able to share the other day because we just got too excited. | |
| Laodicea, the message that Jesus Christ gives to Laodicea ends with, yea, though I stand at the door and knock. | |
| Again, I'm kind of an exegesis nerd. | |
| I have to take it all the way to a 10 every time and say, what did that really mean? | |
| I understand that it has been the basis of a lot of altar calls. | |
| Throughout the years, people will continue to give an altar call and say, Jesus is standing at the doorway of your heart and he's knocking, won't you let him in? | |
| Well, I can agree with that because if he's willing to stand at any door and be knocking to be let in because he wishes to sup with you, it would apply personally too. | |
| But specific to Laodicea, which is the church that I think that our current day church has become, church capital C meaning body of Christ, not specifically a congregation versus another. | |
| He is saying that he is no longer in the building. | |
| That the message being spread within those four lackadaisical, apathetic walls are actually completely void of his presence entirely. | |
| So if we are Laodicea, and I think that we have started to become that, not only will we be spewed out of the mouth of God, but he's no longer in the building. | |
| He's not even present with all this ministry that we are spreading around. | |
