Faith Without Works? 00:04:35
So you're saying radical would be saying yes and being obedient to the Lord?
Radically so.
Okay, and the difference being that lots of people say yes, Lord, but then they there's just kind of a half-hearted commitment.
A radical is somebody that says, I am so passionate about this that I'm afraid.
Like Joyce Meyer says, I'm going to get up and I'm going to do it afraid, and I'm going to not let anything stop me.
And I think that's the difference between somebody who's willing to be obedient and a radical.
That is so good.
And passionate.
I wrote that word down.
Does that mean passionate?
And I think that the radicals are going to be those that recognize exactly the issues that I have dedicated this book to.
The problems that we have in worship, the pop heresies that are taking over the teaching of the church.
I think that all of the things that are currently, the programs, I don't want to, I don't want to make anybody mad by saying this because I do believe in programs.
I mean, I'm a mom.
I go to a church and they don't have a program for my kid.
It's like, well, shucks, that's not the right feel.
So there's nothing wrong with programs.
But when programs replaces the gospel, you've got a problem.
And I think that right now, everybody in the nation is tired of programs.
And I think you've got young millennials and I think you've got teenagers and I think you have elderly too.
They have their fake detectors set on high.
Their radars are shooting off laser beams when they walk into a church today because they walk in and there's a beautiful foyer and it is dead inside like the church at Sardis.
Getting into Revelation, I want that there.
I can get heated up if we talk about Revelation.
So this book would be good for pastors to reach.
Oh, absolutely.
Absolutely.
It absolutely addresses everything right now.
Well, many things.
And let me tell you, it's nothing new.
That's the thing that's so beautiful about this book is it's nothing new.
It's actually a verse-by-verse analysis of what James, the half-brother of Christ, talked about in the early church.
He had the same problem.
Give me a couple things from James.
Because you write about James a lot in this book.
Well, actually, the whole book, it's kind of an exposition of yes.
The faith without works is a dead thing.
A lot of people do not understand that faith without works is dead does not mean that you are saved by works.
In fact, in the Council at Jerusalem, James got together with Peter, and together they all came together and made it very clear that you are saved by faith alone.
But the problem is a person's interpretation of the word faith.
Faith is a verb.
Faith means that if you have the Holy Spirit within you, then you have to act like he is.
And so faith is not just believing that a thing exists, like the boogeyman or fairies.
Faith is also not believing, but belonging to a religious body, like, oh, I go to a Christian church, therefore I am a Christian.
No, you're not.
You're not a Christian unless you have God in your heart and you follow the word that he has given us to follow.
You know what I'm saying?
And yet, the social club of Christianity has completely redefined what it is to be a Christian.
So faith without works is dead.
It's exactly like you take a person who has cheated on his wife, but he still believes in her the way he would believe in something he can see, smell, touch, whatever.
He's still unfaithful.
In fact, God in the Old Testament set out and told Hosea or Hosea, however you pronounce it, to marry a prostitute to show the unfaithfulness of the Israelites.
Now, you want to, I mean, look at that.
They were unfaithful to the Lord.
Their faith in the Lord as they believed in such a thing was, yes, we believe in Yahweh, but their works were pagan.
So you cannot be a Christian today and say, boy, howdy, I'm a Christian, I'm so proud, blah, blah, blah.
And if your works say that the second that you walk up to a radical and they've got their beard is too long or they've got too many tattoos or they smell funny or whatever, they don't drive the kind of Harley that you think they should be driving, or dare I say it, they have friends who are homosexuals.
Lukewarm Water Revelation 00:03:12
I mean, come on, are we the anointed body or not?
You gotta let that go.
You know, I want to know about being lukewarm.
I want to know what that really means in the Revelation when it talks about, I will spew you out if you're lukewarm.
The Laodicean church is talking about.
The actual geological location, okay, of the city was located between a fresh cold water site and hot springs.
They received their water from an anecdote flowing from one site to the other.
So the thing about being lukewarm was actually when Jesus Christ was talking to John when he was stuck in the Island of Pamos, giving him all of these words for revelation, he was referring to that because within their locality, they would understand how that relates to a spiritual life because they received lukewarm water in Laodicea.
Okay?
So lukewarm water, let's think about this.
Cold water is refreshing.
It refreshes your body.
It refreshes your spirit.
Warm water, I mean, hot water can be used to cleanse you.
Each one, each one of those things.
Have you ever wondered, I mean, you may or may not have wondered, why would God say, I wilt thou be hot or cold?
If this was a matter of how passionate you are, how much zeal do you have, then why would God ever wilt thou would be cold?
Why wouldn't he say, Laodicea, you're not quite hot, but thank God you're not cold.
Or thank me, he is God.
But why wouldn't he say, you know, why wouldn't he say, thank goodness you are not cold?
It's not about passion.
It's about the fact that you are not contributing.
You are not giving anybody anything they can use.
And when you actually think about what lukewarm water is, it's a bacterial breeding ground.
So when Jesus Christ said, you are lukewarm, he said you are.
He said you are spiritually a bacterial breeding ground.
Wow.
Amazing.
You're getting, Mondo's getting saved.
Listen.
This is why the radical is all about right now.
This is why so many kids need to hear this gospel, the gospel that saves, that heals, and restores.
What you're preaching is what this generation is looking for.
Not just this generation, so Jesus Christ.
Wait, say this again.
You're saying that it's a bacterial breeding ground.
Lukewarm water, Jesus.
And they knew that.
They knew it.
The Laodiceans would have known that.
It's not about whether or not you're hot on fire for God or you're cold and dead for God, or he wouldn't wilt that that would be cold.
The reason he said you are lukewarm and I will spew you out of my mouth is because they were worse than worthless.
They were actually creating a bacteria that was spreading to the regions and giving a false representation of what the gospel was supposed to have been like to the early church.
