Fake Accident Turns Into Ambush (Caught on Camera)

Hans Hamilton's attempt to aid a crash victim on Florida's 429 Expressway turned into a brutal ambush by Daniel Komen, who jumped onto Hamilton's Tesla hood and inflicted severe injuries including a brain bleed and four broken ribs. While deputies arrested Komen for battery and assaulting an officer, witnesses and commentators suspect the incident was a staged setup due to the lack of airbag deployment and unnatural scene details. Ultimately, this shocking event highlights the dangers of unsolicited assistance and raises serious questions about the authenticity of the reported accident. [Automatically generated summary]

Good Samaritan Goes Too Far 00:06:11
So, this guy's driving down the road and he sees this accident.
There's the guy laying right there.
You know, he's a good Samaritan.
He's going to help him.
Watch what happens next.
This is nuts.
Don't want to lose my humanity.
We're put on this earth to help each other.
And that's exactly what Hans Hamilton tried to do Monday morning on the 429 Expressway in Winter Garden.
I saw a car crash.
I saw a door open.
So, then.
A good person, any human being would see.
He would just pull over to check.
As Hamilton parks his Tesla, the man in the red t-shirt appeared to be lying motionless on the ground.
Hear bikes dropping by.
I rolled down my window.
Hey, are you okay?
Are you okay?
No response.
No answer.
This person's dead.
So I open up my car door.
As soon as I open that car door, he was off that ground.
So he was waiting.
This video from a camera in his car shows the man hop on the hood of the Tesla and he starts stomping on the windshield.
So that's on a little incline at 429.
It pulled me out of my car.
As I was falling backwards, he was jumping off the roof on top of me.
And that's when he started kicking and pummeling me.
A different camera captured the ambush attack and the man repeatedly punching his head.
I know on the back of my head, they counted eight different bumps, plus the kicks to the jaw, which I can finally today, I'm able to eat a thin sandwich, but I still can't open my mouth all the way.
Hamilton says the suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Daniel Komen, threatened to take his life.
So the whole time he's hitting me, he's telling me he's going to kill me.
And he didn't just tell me.
His eyes were void of any humanity.
I believed it.
So when I was fighting, I knew the last thing I was going to see was not that ground.
Hamilton explained how he managed to get off the ground and away from his attacker.
I mean, I cannot beat him strength-wise, so I have to try to incapacitate him.
So I think I was pommeling in his jugular vein in his neck.
Deputies arrested Komen for battery and criminal mischief for what he did to Hamilton and his car.
He's also facing charges of resisting with violence, as well as assault and battery on the first responding deputy.
He attacks the cop.
Cops on the ground rolling.
What do I do?
Four broken ribs, jump on the ground with the cop.
And at that point, somebody ran across the street, across the freeway, and we're all trying to get this guy cuffed as he's still fighting.
Hamilton also suffered a brain bleed, multiple contusions, and a concussion.
Physically, the body's doing what it should do, and it's healing, but it's very painful.
Four broken ribs is no joke.
Eventually, it's a little more difficult.
He says he's grateful for the kindness of strangers who are making donations on his GoFundMe page for his auto and medical bills.
So the point is, there's still kindness in the world.
People are donating that don't even know me.
And I'm very thankful.
Covering Orange County, Justin Shecker, Wesh 2 News.
That is nuts.
Like, it seemed like everybody that was driving by on the road was like, no, that's a setup.
What I found suspicious was there's no airbags deployed.
And he's just laying on the ground, nothing's broken.
It's just like a perfectly parked car with a guy laying out.
That's why nobody stopped for him.
Everybody kept driving and said, No, that don't look right.
That looked like a setup.
That's why everybody kept driving.
They caught on.
Yeah.
When he hops up, I would have took off.
Watch, look at him, watch.
He took off running.
Dude, I'd have ran that dude over.
I would have ran that dude over, man.
I would have straight ran him over.
You'd have done it like this.
That's what I'd have done.
I'd have ran him over.
That guy's way too nice.
I can understand that.
Well, he's the next guy.
He was stopping there.
Yeah, Keith.
That's what I'm saying.
He's too nice.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's too nice.
He stopped.
That's the nice thing to do.
But when a dude hops up and starts running and cursing and looking crazy, why you say, hey, you okay?
What's going on?
He's way too nice.
Well, he didn't expect that, Kevin.
He didn't see that coming.
You act like it was a black guy laying there and you did that.
Yeah, a natural instinct is going to kick in.
What's that black guy doing that?
I thought he was Mexican when he first pulled up.
My guard would have already been up.
I'd have ran him over.
I know that.
God is my witness.
I'd have ran that man over.
Nah, you wouldn't have ran him over.
You crazy.
He would have kept running up.
He would have been up on the hood.
He would have won a boat for your hood.
That's what would have happened.
You would have ran him over.
He would have went up on the hood.
You would have took off and threw him over the top.
Nah, I'd probably have ran him over.
To throw somebody up over your hood, you got to be going, I think, over 30.
He jumped on his hood, Kevin.
He's doing five miles an hour.
He jumped on his hood.
Well, let me explain to you like this.
I'd have took off, then stopped and threw him off my car, and then I'd have ran him over.
What was the purpose at?
He just wanted to beat up somebody?
They arrested him for criminal mischief.
So he just planned it.
He wanted to ambush somebody and beat the hell out of them.
Yeah, but his car was actually hit the pole, hit the guard where it was damaged.
So I guess the guy's like, I'm having a bad day.
I think I'm just going to lay here, pretend I'm hurt, and I'm going to beat the hell out of somebody.
The first person that comes up and tries to help me.
Yeah.
I'm going to take it out all on that person.
Yeah.
That's probably the guy's crazy.
Yeah, look at his mugshot.
He's smiling.
He's so proud of himself.
Don't look like he got a scratch on him.
Damn, T1000 right here.
I'll be back.
Well, he put plenty of knots on that one dude.
Yeah, he got a scratch on him.
Yeah, Keith, he didn't get no accident.
That car was messed up.
He probably had damage on the front end of the car.
To begin with, he parked it.
The Smiling Mugshot 00:00:45
It didn't even look like he was in an accident.
It looked like he was sunbathing.
Well, I think everybody else had caught on too because nobody was stopping.
Yeah.
They said, no, that's a setup.
That dude.
If I knew it wasn't set up for the air, yeah, my spiny senses went off.
So, wait a minute, dude's just laying out there.
He's not groaning enough.
He's just laying out there with the door open.
There's no airbags.
Yeah, he should have been going, hey, yep, yeah, there's no skin marks.
I bet Pete said, nope, that dude's gonna rob and kill somebody.
You driving down the road, he said, yep, somebody stopped.
He's good as dead.
I bet she was laying there.
He said, yeah, got me a sucker.
Yeah, yeah.
I had to run that man over.
