Just to give an example, back 25 years ago when I came on the job, there used to be a thousand applicants a month.
A thousand people wanted to be police officers, just a month.
And so out of the a thousand, they only took the best 5%.
Out of the best 5%, they took the best 50%.
Out of the best 50%, they took the best 5%.
So you ended up with maybe six, maybe seven a month.
They wanted to hire the best of the best.
I bring that up to say that I just don't see that in today's.
I don't know if a lot of young kids, you know, want to risk their lives knowing that you are one incident away from being filed criminal charges.
So when you highlight and sensationalize one incident, I mean, you know, George Floyd didn't help at all.
I think the protest and what happened with the George Floyd incident takes an impact as to, you know, hey, I don't want to do that kind of work.
I don't want to see myself getting in trouble and getting, possibly going to jail. |
