The concept of the 15-minute city, which I thought when I first heard about it was some kind of conspiracy theory, but no, they're serious about this.
The ideal is you can do everything you need to do in your life within a 15-minute walk.
You can work, you can recreate, you can go to the restaurant, you can go to the grocery store, everything within 15 minutes.
But what's really interesting is that happened organically in Hungary because after World War II, the housing stock in Hungary was wiped out by the war.
So they came in and they built this high density in the cities and they moved the people in.
And over time, it was too harsh on the human spirit.
It came to be known as brutalism.
It does something to you.
It makes you lose confidence.
Your world becomes much smaller.
You have a low self-image.
And now when you go to Hungary, the remnants of this high density is where only the very, very poor people live.
And they're trying to move people back out into the villages and rebuild into the villages. |
