This number of 98% of crime is going to turn into 110% and 130% and 150% unless exigent action is taken today.
One of the things that can't get overlooked is you've got multiple policies that are beginning to impinge on one another.
So you've got Prop 57 in the early releases, tens of thousands of people getting credits earlier than they should have.
Think about if you're a victim.
If the DA told you, hey, you're not going to see this person in your community, then you're at Walmart this afternoon and you see him.
The victims of crime are being traumatized from this thing.
And then Prop 47 takes a bunch of felonies and turns them into misdemeanors.
And so the same crimes that would have been stopped by the criminal justice system now are treated with a little slap on the wrist and go back outside.
And then you get what you're seeing with these strong-armed robberies in the middle of the day, or San Francisco, or major cities, or groups of thugs are breaking windows at gunpoint, stealing stuff en masse.
Certainly we've got evidence that community safety outcomes have gotten much, much worse.
So the very things that we said we were attempting to achieve, we've got worse outcomes in both.
So folks have got to be held accountable. |
