Wisconsin Launches Investigation into 2020 Election; Will Use Retired Police Officers | Facts Matter

	Good evening.
	Just yesterday, the state assembly speaker over in Wisconsin, he said that he is launching a new investigation into the 2020 election, and he is also hiring three retired police officers in order to assist the committee.
	Meanwhile, over in Chicago, the mayor over there made an interesting announcement.
	She said that she will no longer accept interviews from reporters who are white.
	They have to be either black or brown in order to interview her.
	However, she is now facing a legal discrimination lawsuit.
	Now, over in Florida, as more and more people are moving in amidst the pandemic, Governor Ron DeSantis recently said that they are overwhelmingly registering as Republicans, and that includes those who were previously Democrats.
	And lastly, according to a new document which was just filed with the Department of Justice, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to pour millions of dollars into American news outlets in order for them to spread their propaganda immediately.
	Let's go through these stories together.

	And now let's really move on over to Wisconsin.
	Yesterday, the state assembly speaker of Wisconsin, Mr.
	Robin Voss, he said that he is hiring retired police officers in order to probe aspects of the 2020 presidential election.
	Now, Mr.
	Voss told local news outlets over in Wisconsin that he will hire three retired police officers who will work alongside an assembly committee.
	And this assembly committee has investigatory powers to review the election.
	Now, the reason that he gave for taking this action was that after the November 3rd election, there were thousands of complaints from residents of Wisconsin, which he said needed to be investigated.
	Here's what he told a local news outlet.
	We need to have a fact basis to continue to show the public in Wisconsin that, number one, we continue to take these irregularities seriously, and that, at the end of the day, the laws that we proposed are based on facts in addition to anecdotes.
	During that same interview, Mr.
	Voss specifically singled out how an organization called the Center for Tech and Civic Life, which by the way is mostly funded by Mark Zuckerberg, it got involved in several cities in Wisconsin.
	For your reference, according to reporting from the journal Sentinel, which is a Wisconsin-based news publication, for one, Wisconsin's five largest cities received about $6.3 million from this group, and secondly, this group also provided funding to about 200 different municipalities across the entire state.
	And so, according to Mr.
	Voss, this new committee, alongside these three retired police officers, will spend the next three months reviewing all the tips that they received about the election, and then they will narrow their focus down on the most credible ones.
	Here's what he said.
	Is there a whole lot of smoke, or is there actual fire?
	We just don't know yet.
	A sizable chunk of people believe the election was illegitimate.
	And democracy cannot flourish if both sides don't believe in the end both sides had a fair shot.
	Now, this move out in Wisconsin is not an outlier, as similar actions are taking place across the country.
	For instance, as we've discussed in several previous episodes, Arizona is in the process of a large-scale audit over in Maricopa County, which among other things is recounting 2.1 million ballots.
	And just last week, a judge over in Georgia, he made the ruling to unseal absentee ballots over in Fulton County in order to review them for possible fraud.
	Now back to Wisconsin, Mr.
	Voss noted that his intentions are not to overturn the election, but instead, well, here's what he said.
	The election is already over.
	My job is to be frustrated with the result, which I am, especially with what's going on in Washington, D.C. My job is to say, where are the laws being followed?
	Where are they not?
	If they're not being followed, how can I fix it?
	Now, we here at the Epoch Times, we reached out to the Elections Commission for comment, but we have yet to hear back.

	And now let's move on over to Chicago.
	About a week ago, the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, she made a very interesting announcement.
	What happened was that her spokesperson began to tell local media outlets that she would only be granting interviews to local black or brown journalists.
	For instance, here's what a reporter for NBC tweeted out.
	As the Chicago mayor reaches her two-year midway point as mayor, her spokesman says Lightfoot is granting one-on-one interviews only to black or brown journalists.
	And then in that same Twitter thread, another local reporter over in Chicago, he wrote, Now, refusing to accept interviews from reporters based on race is a fairly bold move.
	And so Mayor Lightfoot released a statement in order to justify her reasoning.
	Here's what she wrote in a letter.
	In looking at the absence of diversity across the City Hall press corps and other newsrooms, sadly, it does not appear that many of the media institutions in Chicago have caught on and truly have not embraced this moment.
	I have been struck since my first day on the campaign trail back in 2018 by the overwhelming whiteness and maleness of Chicago media outlets, editorial boards, the political press corps, and yes, the City Hall press corps specifically.
	Then that letter was followed up by a tweet from Mayor Lightfoot which said this: "This is exactly why I'm being intentional about prioritizing media requests from POC, which is people of color, reporters on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of my inauguration as mayor of this great city." Now, naturally enough, her decision drew fairly heavy backlash from local journalists, with even the Chicago Tribune saying that they "declined to participate in an interview with Lightfoot to object to the restrictions."
	And then, even outside of the city limits of Chicago, on a national level, Tulsi Gabbard, who was a Democrat presidential nominee in the last election cycle, she wrote this on Twitter.
	By the way, there has thus far not been any mention of this incident from the White House, from the Biden administration.
	However, this story has taken on a new turn.
	That's because it was just announced yesterday that Mayor Lightfoot is now being sued by a white reporter who has allegedly refused an interview based on his race.
	In fact, this is the lawsuit right here.
	Now, the reporter's name is Thomas Caranacci, and he is a reporter with the Daily Caller News Foundation.
	And according to this lawsuit, he alleges that the mayor did not return multiple requests for an interview with him, which might have violated the First Amendment rights of the news publication, as well as his equal protection rights under the 14th Amendment.
	On Twitter, this reporter wrote this, The mayor denied me an interview based on my race.
	I look forward to holding her accountable.
	Now, of course, it's not clear whether she refused the interview based on the fact that he was white or because she did not want to be interviewed by the Daily Caller.
	That is likely the question that will need to be answered in this case.
	Regardless, we here at The Epoch Times, we reached out to Mayor Lightfoot's office for comment, but we have yet to hear back.
	However, it's also worth noting that last week, Mayor Lightfoot did grant an interview to MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle, who is herself white.
	So it's not clear whether her policy is permanent or only applies to local reporters in Chicago.
	Regardless, the president of Judicial Watch, who is filing the lawsuit on behalf of this journalist, he said this about the case.
	Racial discrimination has no place in America, especially in the halls of government.
	Mayor Lightfoot's admitted policy of race-based discrimination is flagrantly illegal and immoral.
	Simply put, we're asking the court to find Mayor Lightfoot's racist abuse unlawful.

	And now let's talk a bit about Chinese Communist propaganda.
	According to a new document filed with the Department of Justice, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to pour millions of dollars into Western publications in order to spread their propaganda.
	According to this filing here, which was made four days ago by China Daily, and in case you don't know, China Daily is an English-language newspaper which is directly controlled by Beijing's propaganda department.
	And it says that over the past six months, they have spent approximately $3 million on Western news outlets as well as publishing agencies.
	And when you comb through this data, it's revealed that they have spent $1.6 million advertising in the LA Times, Foreign Policy, the Financial Times, and Time magazine They spent another $329,000 in Canada's Globe and Mail, which is their largest newspaper, its equivalent to Canada's New York Times.
	And besides that, China Daily has also spent over $1 million to have its newspaper printed, and some notable recipients of this $1 million in printing costs was the LA Times, the Boston Globe, the Seattle Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Houston Chronicle.
	And by the way, when you take a look at how much China Daily spent over the last six months, it's actually a significant increase from their previous six months, about a 20% increase, in fact.
	So that is a lot of propaganda flooding America.
	Now, the reason that we even have access to documents like this is because last year, under the Trump administration, the State Department designated these state-run media outlets, like the China Daily, as foreign missions of the Chinese Communist Party.
	And as foreign missions, they have to register both their employees as well as their U.S. properties.
	And so, because of that, we now have access to this treasure trove of information, and we can better understand how the Chinese Communist Party is working to control the global narrative.
	For instance, the Center for Responsive Politics, which is a Washington, D.C.-based government transparency group, they ran some calculations based on these new documents, and they found that Chinese foreign agent spending, here in America, has increased six-fold over the past several years, going from just $10 million in 2016 to almost $64 million in 2020.
	Now, in terms of what the purpose of all this spending is, while we're here at the Epoch Times, we got a chance to speak with Jim Banks, who's a congressman from Indiana, and he told us this.
	China Daily's sole purpose is to cover for the Chinese Communist Party's ongoing atrocities.
	Every US outlet that supports China Daily has no right to talk about human rights or democracy.
	They should be ashamed of their complicity.
	And to give you an example of how these propaganda efforts help to cover up the Chinese Communist Party's atrocities, I present to you China Watch.
	If you have been a newspaper reader here in America over the last several years, then you are likely familiar with China Watch.
	It sometimes comes inside of your newspaper as a special inserts section, and by all intents and purposes, by all appearances, it looks like normal content.
	However, it is not.
	It is actually paid propaganda masquerading as news content, and it's paid for by the Chinese Communist Party.
	And newspapers throughout America gobbled up millions of dollars of advertising from the Chinese Communist Party and sent out this propaganda to tens of millions of households across the country.
	Now, the nonprofit group Reporters Without Borders, they described it this way: "Reasonably enjoyable reads and well presented, these China Watch supplements are nonetheless Trojan horses that enable Beijing to insinuate its propaganda into the living rooms of elites." Now, in terms of what this propaganda looks like in practice, well, here is a concrete example:
	If you are a subscriber of the LA Times, of the Los Angeles Times, then last year you might have received a copy of China Watch, which had news pieces talking about how great life in Tibet was.
	And the articles inside hailed the opportunities offered by the vocational training programs being offered to Tibetans.
	Now, vocational training programs sound very nice, unless, of course, they are the same type of vocational training programs that the Uyghurs over in Xinjiang are experiencing, which is likely the case.
	Here's how in an organization called Free Tibet, here's how they responded to this special section in the LA Times.
	This appears to be a deliberate attempt to whitewash a report highlighting that over 500,000 Tibetans had undergone forced labor.
	But you see, the Chinese Communist Party spends millions of dollars so that Americans, they get something that looks like news delivered to their doorstep, which doesn't talk about forced labor.
	It spins the narratives and talks about how they have vocational training programs.
	To sum up what's happening, Roger Wicker, who is a senator from Mississippi, he said it very succinctly.
	It is an open secret that Beijing is waging a global propaganda war in the U.S., and American newspapers are complicit.

	And now let's head on over to Florida.
	As more and more people have been moving to Florida amidst the pandemic, the state is seeing its population numbers grow significantly.
	And according to the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, these people who are moving into Florida are overwhelmingly registering as Republicans.
	And that even includes Democrats who fled their states due to restrictions.
	And all of this is in spite of heavy media criticism.
	In fact, here's what Governor Ron DeSantis said during an interview with Fox News.
	The media at the beginning of this said Florida is bad.
	And I think it's because they want to damage Trump in Florida and they want to damage me.
	So they just kept saying it was bad.
	And even though the facts didn't say it, like literally last April, they're saying Florida is doing worse than New York.
	New York was like 10 times worse.
	Now, what he's referring to in that quote is the fact that he resisted locking down the state of Florida, which was a move that, of course, drew a lot of criticism from both Democrats as well as the corporate media outlets in this country.
	And besides resisting the lockdown, in the last several months, Governor Ron DeSantis has also issued executive orders, or he assigned different bills, which ended the statewide mask mandate, which ended local emergency orders that necessitated lockdowns, and he prevented vaccine passports from being implemented in the state of Florida.
	Which were all, again, actions which were attacked by the corporate media outlets in America.
	Here's what he said on these points.
	And I also have come across a lot of people who, quite frankly, were Democrats.
	The lockdowns turned them into Republicans.
	Now, one interesting thing to note here is that with Governor Ron DeSantis' bigger and bigger presence on the national stage, there has been growing speculation that he might attempt to run for president in 2024 if Donald Trump doesn't.
	Now, whether that's the case or not, it's unclear.
	However, last week, Governor DeSantis did give a small hint about his future in politics.
	Here's what he said.
	I can tell you this.
	In the state of Florida, with me as governor, I have only begun to fight.
	Now, aside from the possibility of a future presidential run, during another recent interview with President Trump and Fox News, he floated the idea of having Governor Ron DeSantis run alongside him on a single ticket.
	Here's what President Trump said during that interview.
	I endorsed Ron, and after I endorsed him, he took off like a rocket ship.
	He's done a great job as governor.
	I'm saying what I read and what you read, they love that ticket.
	Certainly, Ron will be considered.
	He's a great guy.
	Now, by the way, if you would like to know more about what happened over in Florida in regards to the lockdowns, as well as the way that Governor Ron DeSantis handled the state, well, you're in luck.

	Fear is very powerful, and they bought into it because it was temporary.
	For the younger populations, the lockdown is way more harmful than COVID. I got an email from someone who said, Dear Dr.
	Atlas, thank you for everything you've been saying.
	I'm writing you today because my husband killed himself.
	What's going on here?
	When push came to shove, they advocated policies that have not worked against the virus, but have been very, very destructive.
	This is not an inconvenience.
	This is a matter of life and death.
	Within 24 hours, we informed the governor, and immediately the governor said, make it happen.
	He's showing the public what his advisors are telling him.
	He looked at the science.
	He looked at the data.
	The lockdowns were really a departure from what the typical scientific recommendations had been for pandemics.
	The American spirit, the independent American, where are these people?
	This is bad for our country.
	Every single fact that I discussed was edited out.
	Union thugs would come and try to break up some of my press conferences.
	If you had been infected, then you...
	But the decisions that he made are not just impulsive.
	He knows what he wants to do.
	He wants to do the right things.
	I think Governor DeSantis was a big part of that.
	I don't mind people swinging at me.
	A leader is elected to lead.
	I'd rather them beat up on me than have someone lose their job.
	This is an enormous tragedy.

	He doesn't back down from a challenge.
	they're never going to admit they were wrong.
