Why Mainstream Media Shifted The Narrative About The U.S. Capitol Protestors | Larry Elder

Almost immediately after a bunch of idiots, violent idiots, stormed the Capitol building, trashed the building, the conversation became, what would have happened had the protesters been black?
The police would have been far more aggressive.
People would have been dead.
Bodies would have been piling up.
Now, I don't know about you, but when I was at home watching this horrific scene, I was worried about the safety of the House members.
I was worried about the protection of the valuable paintings and monuments and sculptures that are there.
It never occurred to me to say to myself, hmm, I wonder what would have happened had the protesters been black.
If these insurrectionists were black, they would have been shot in the face.
And my God, if these insurrectionists were Muslim, they would have been sniped from the top of buildings.
So I want to know from the Capitol Hill Police, what is it?
Is it just white people?
Or is it Donald Trump supporters?
Why do you scream at people for walking across the street?
Three blocks away from the Capitol.
Why are you known as badasses around the Capitol?
But then Trump supporters come in and you open the f***ing doors for them.
You open the doors for them and let them breach the people's house.
What is wrong with you?
A little over an hour and a half after the chaos started, I got a text From my granddaughter, Finnegan Biden, who's a senior in her last semester at the University of Pennsylvania.
She sent me a photo of military people in full military gear, scores of them lining the steps of the Lincoln Memorial because of protests by Black Lives Matter.
She said, Pop, This isn't fair.
No one can tell me that if there had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesting yesterday, they wouldn't have been treated very, very differently.
And the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol.
We live in two Americas.
And that was a prime example of that yesterday.
And if you don't understand that or don't see that after seeing what you saw yesterday, then you You really need to take a step back, not even just one step, maybe four or five or even ten steps backwards and ask yourself, how do you want your kids or how do you want your grandkids, how do we want America to be viewed as, how do we want to live in this beautiful country?
Because yesterday, It was not it.
I'm calling on all of my conservative friends, my Republican friends, to say, what would I do if Black Lives Matter dropped 30,000 black people on the nation's capital and laid siege to the seat of power in the middle of a joint session of Congress and broke in?
What would I say if Black Lives Matter do that?
I'm gonna say that right now.
And Kevin Hart, who's got six or eight million followers on Twitter, said, Two completely different Americas that we are living in.
If these people were black, they would have been shot dead.
And some other kind things.
Kevin, they would have been shot dead.
The Washington Post, April 27, 2016, big article about research going back to the 70s, showing if anything the police are more reluctant, more hesitant to pull the trigger on the black suspect than on the white suspect.
Conventional thinking has been that black people are more likely to be shot than white suspects because of an implicit racial bias among police officers.
But now a new study has found exactly the opposite.
Even with white officers who do have racial biases, officers are three times less likely to shoot unarmed black suspects than unarmed white suspects.
The results come from a lab project at Washington State University using highly realistic police simulators in which various actors in various scenarios approach and respond to officers on large, high-def video screens in an attempt to recreate critical situations on the street.
Real guns modified to fire infrared beams rather than bullets.
The scenarios can branch into conflict or cooperation depending upon the officer's words and actions.
Third time researchers at Washington State have done this.
All three times they found officers took significantly more time to fire their weapons if the suspect was black.
Starting with a 1977 analysis of reports from major metropolitan departments found officers fired more shots at white suspects than black suspects.
2004, a study found, quote, evidence of an increased wariness about using deadly force against black suspects for fear of how it would be perceived and the associated consequences.
With all other variables constant, Officers took significantly longer to shoot armed black suspects than armed white suspects.
Of all wrongful shootings, white people were shot 54 times and black people were shot twice.
Adjusting for the fact that there were fewer black scenarios, we found that officers were slightly more than three times less likely to shoot unarmed black suspects than unarmed white suspects." Again, this is research going back to the 70s.
It is just not true.
Now, isn't this good news?
Isn't it good news to know that blacks are not more likely to be shot by the police just because they're black?
This brings me to Harvard economist Roland Fryer.
He is so brilliant.
He is the youngest tenured professor in the history of Harvard, happens to be black.
He did research on the same thing, and he found the same conclusion.
New study confirms that black men and women are more likely to be subjected to non-deadly force than a black suspect.
But when it comes to the most lethal form of force, police shooting, the study finds no racial bias.
It is the most surprising result of my career, said Roland Fryer, the author of the study.
Key and student researchers spent about 3,000 hours assembling detailed data from police reports in Houston, Austin, Now you're going to say, Elder, didn't you just acknowledge that the police were more likely to use non-deadly force against black suspects versus white suspects?
So why would I feel good about that?
Well, the Harvard professor, Roland Fryer, did find out that the police were 18 to 20 percent more likely to use non-deadly force against a black suspect than a white suspect.
Let's assume for a moment that the increased 18% or so is because of racism.
Let me ask you something.
Do you think the people in the streets in the summer were there because the police were three times less likely to use deadly force against black people, but 18% more likely to use non-deadly force?
Is that why they're there?
No, they're there because they believe the police are killing blacks just because they're black.
Now, one more comment about non-deadly force.
Think about it.
The police don't want to get to the point where they have to use deadly force against a black suspect.
So therefore, how unreasonable is it for the police to use somewhat more non-deadly force so they don't have to get to DEFCON 1?
You ever think about that?
Now, this dangerous lie leads to what Heather McDonnell has referred to as the Ferguson Effect.
Well, the Ferguson Effect is the twin phenomenon of officers backing off of proactive policing and the resulting increase in crime.
Last year we had the largest one-year increase in homicide in nearly a half century.
The vast majority of the victims of that homicide increase have been black.
The reason for this crime increase, I believe, is that officers are living today under a false and dangerous narrative that says that they are shot through with systemic racism, that we're living through an epidemic of racially biased police shootings,
and that the type of proactive policing that I think is responsible For a 20-year crime decline that this nation has enjoyed, is under attack as racially oppressive.
And Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, about the Ferguson effect, he said because of it, the Chicago police have gone fetal.
Here's a word, not mine.
We have allowed our police department to get fetal and it is having a direct consequence.
They have pulled back from the ability to interdict.
They don't want to be a news story themselves.
They don't want their career ended early and it's having an impact." Our officers need to know that if the We're not going to be second-guessed every time on everything.
Now, as for why we're having this conversation in the first place, let's remember at the beginning of the video, I told you about all the people who said, what would have happened had the protesters been black?
And the point is to promote the narrative that the police, and by extension America, remains systemically racist.
Because unless black people have that belief, why would they march in there like lemmings and pull that lever 95% for the Democratic Party?
This is the party that opposes vouchers even though urban parents want vouchers.
This is the party that has pushed policies like poorest borders that hurt urban workers because they have to compete for jobs that they would hold that are now being held by unskilled illegal aliens.
This is the party that has been the party of race-based preferences even though those preferences caused an increase in dropouts.
This is a party that, in my opinion, has been completely antithetical to the best interests of black people.
Yet they pull that lever for the Democratic Party time and time again because of the belief that America remains a systemically racist country.
And after all, these Republicans over there, they wear the black hat, and the Democrats, they wear the good hat.
That's why they keep pushing this narrative.
When in fact, when it comes to the police, all you have to do is what my father used to tell me.
When you have an interaction with the police, make sure your paperwork is in order if you're driving.
Make sure your left hand is at 10 o'clock, your right hand is at 2 o'clock.
Say yes, sir.
Say no, sir.
Make sure your paperwork is in order.
And if you feel you're mistreated, get a name and a badge number and deal with it later while you are alive.
Or as Chris Rock puts it, You know, you probably won't get your ass kicked if you just use common sense.
If you jump a subway turnstile, you might just get off with a warning from the police.
But if you jump a turnstile carrying a loaded gun and smoking a joint, then maybe you need your ass kicked.
