| Hi, Mark. | ||
| Good morning. | ||
|
unidentified
|
Good morning. | |
| Good morning, America. | ||
| Our biggest problem is a government that is not operating. | ||
| I have a proposition. | ||
| I would like America to seriously consider this. | ||
| Bring in Soon, bring in Hakeem Jeffries, bring in Johnson and bring in Schumer. | ||
| Put them in a room live on C-SPAN with a moderator and make them present their case and their solutions in front of every citizen in this country watching the show. | ||
| We can do this on C-SPAN 210 because Johnson suspended the House and sent them all home. | ||
| We could do this around the clock, just the way they elect a pope. | ||
| You don't leave the room till you have a solution and an answer. | ||
| Force them into it. | ||
| Keep in mind, people, while we don't pay the military, we just sent 200 people into Israel to monitor the ceasefire. | ||
| Those folks are not being paid. | ||
| Can you imagine the pain their families are dealing with? | ||
| I was in the service and I went through some shutdowns and some no pay dues. | ||
| And I honestly believe C-SPAN, you are not a commercial news organization. | ||
| You are the pulse of America. | ||
| Let's put this idea out for the American populace and talk about this today. | ||
| And Mark, we would definitely do that. | ||
| If those four leaders would agree, we would definitely do that. | ||
| And we'd be happy to moderate that discussion. | ||
| Rex, Republican Indoor West Virginia, good morning. | ||
|
unidentified
|
Good morning. | |
| Hello. | ||
| Yes, go ahead, Rex. | ||
| We're listening. | ||
|
unidentified
|
Yeah. | |
| You know, I've been watching this here for a week, well, 10 days, you know, where they got government shut down. | ||
| You know, instead of laying off the federal employees and cutting the pay of the military and the people that's out there protecting our country, they need to just walk in and tell Schumer and them, listen, we're going to cut your pay. | ||
| Every day you keep us shut down, we're going to cut your pay back to amount of dollars and see how well they'd like having to try to live off on breadcrumbs. | ||
| You know, this is ridiculous because they're the ones that's holding up the government. | ||
| The Democrats, they don't like Trump, and they ain't no sense in it because the man is running the country. | ||
| I mean, really good. | ||
| Look at the peace deals he's got going on in Gaza and everywhere else. | ||
| You know, stopping these wars, people getting killed. | ||
| You know, he's the man that needs to be in there. | ||
| So, Rex, let me ask you then about President Trump's role in a deal to reopen the government. | ||
| What do you think his role should be? | ||
| What does it have been? | ||
| I mean, he is leaving for the Middle East on Sunday, tomorrow, and coming back Monday night. | ||
| What do you think as far as his attention to the shutdown and what could he do? | ||
|
unidentified
|
Well, he had this, I mean, he probably had this trip planned for a while, you know, to get more peace deals done.
| And, you know, they want to cut everything, you know, and they want to shut us down for no reason. | ||
| There ain't no reason in this. | ||
| They're just a bunch of whiners down there. | ||
| That's all they are. | ||
| And they all just need to either put on their boots and go to work and do their job the right way or take their bags and go home. | ||
| All right, Rex. | ||
| And this is an article in the Wall Street Journal about the Gaza deal. | ||
| It says that the deal was struck amid talks that followed after Israel and Hamas tentatively accepted a 20-point peace plan announced by President Trump last week. | ||
| Trump sent his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to Egypt to finalize negotiations. | ||
| Here is the main elements of the first phase of that plan, and it is that all living hostages held by Hamas are to be released. | ||
| There are roughly 20 hostages believed to be alive. | ||
| They said getting, President Trump said, quote, getting them is a complicated process. | ||
| It says the bodies of around 28 hostages who have died are to be handed over. | ||
| Hamas has said it would need at least 10 days to locate the bodies, according to people close to the talks. | ||
| And it says that once all the hostages are returned, Israel is expected to release 250 Palestinians who are in Israeli prisons and 1,700 Palestinians who have been detained in Gaza during the conflict. | ||
| Precisely who is on that list is being finalized. | ||
| And it says that Hamas has pushed to get as many big-name prisoners released as possible, including Marwan Barghuti, whom Israel jailed over his role in a Palestinian uprising in the early 2000s. | ||
| Here's Jerry in Tennessee. | ||
| Democrat, good morning, Jerry. | ||
|
unidentified
|
Yes, ma'am. | |
| Thank you for taking my call. | ||
| This is one heck of a mess. | ||
| The people out here has either got the choice to get laid off, lose their job, or get their insurance quadrupled. | ||
| All we need to do is roll back those wealthy people tax cuts. | ||
| This is Donald Trump shutdown. | ||
| Now, there ain't no doubt about that. | ||
| But all we've got to do is just take those big tax breaks away, and we can carry on, you know, like we was. | ||
|
unidentified
|
But to have people's insurance quadruple, people are going to, you know, what can afford it?
| Most people just have to drop off. | ||
| I said, what, $15 million? | ||
| This is terrible. | ||
| We just need to tax the wealthy, tax churches, tax somebody. | ||
| But don't take people's health care and food away from them. | ||
| These are the little kids you're talking about. | ||
| We're a pro-life country, and I believe we are. | ||
| But feeding children as they get here is one of the things, too. | ||
|
unidentified
|
And if you're taking their jobs and their insurance both away from them, now you've got old people that's going to have to choose whether to eat a little food or get their medicine.
| This is unbelievable to be happening in the United States. | ||
| Now, Donald Trump needs to get off his wealthy man tax breaks every time they turn around. | ||
| And that's not biblical. | ||
| That's just not biblical. | ||
| But you people, if it wasn't for you people, the rest of the country would never know how people feel. | ||
| We appreciate C-SPAN so much, and you would have a great day. | ||
| Here's Ed, Ocean City, New Jersey, Independent. | ||
| Hey, Ed? | ||
|
unidentified
|
Yes, Ed O'Donnell, the top story of the news week is Nobel Peace Prize.
| And it should have been given to Costa Rica and the 20 other nations which have done away with their militaries completely. | ||
| And it should have been given to all absolute pacifists worldwide. | ||
| You know, the Quakers, the Mennonites, Church of the Brethren. | ||
| And Ed, what did you think of the person that did win the Nobel Peace Prize? | ||
|
unidentified
|
Well, I don't know her. | |
| I mean, what she did is good in terms of fair elections. | ||
| But the number one need worldwide is absolute pacifism. | ||
| And so all pacifists should have been given the Nobel Peace Prize. | ||
| All right. | ||
| And here is the posting on X by the Nobel Prize Committee. | ||
| Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Karina Machada for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy. | ||
| Robert in Florida, Republican. | ||
| Good morning, Robert. | ||
