Senate Republicans have voted in new leadership for the 119th Congress, which begins in January.
With Senator Mitch McConnell stepping down from his leadership position, three Republicans ran to become the next majority leader: John Thune from South Dakota, John Cornyn from Texas, and Florida's Rick Scott.
Senator Thune, who has previously served in Republican leadership, won on the second secret ballot by a vote of 29 to 24.
Senator Thune released a statement that reads, I'm extremely honored to have earned the support of my colleagues to lead the Senate in the 119th Congress, and I'm beyond proud of the work we have done to secure our majority and the White House.
This Republican team is united behind President Trump's agenda, and our work starts today.
Senator Thune will be joined in leadership by Wyoming's John Barrasso, who also served previously in a leadership role.
He won the race to be the next Republican whip by acclamation.
